#155417 The Three Horse Race To The Promised Land
Fuckin' hell what a result! I honestly didn't think it would happen even when Nugent equalised with ten minutes to go. especially as we had to take on United with Kasper Schmeichel and Wes Morgan both missing on International duty, leaving Conrad Logan who had played just one first team game all season before now and Arsenal loanee Ignasi Miquel to start. undoubtably my finest moment as Leicester manager yet. I literally jumped into the air when Wayne Rooney missed his penalty to give us the advantage. Lloyd Dyer belting in the winner was something else entirely.
Although I'm not going to allow complacency against Bristol City in the quater final, I'm fairly confident of a Wembley semi final, I would love for us to take on Derby. Hopefully Barnsley will upset Chelsea and we will have as good of a chance as anyone of lifting the famous trophy for the first time in the clubs history.
#155407 The Three Horse Race To The Promised Land
The gap between us and our rivals continues to steadily grow as the finish line begins to loom upon the horizon, we are now twelve points ahead of Burnley in the title race and with a fourteen point cushion in the automatic promotion spots. Things are also going well in the FA cup after we were able to force a replay against mighty Manchester United.
The month began in a less encouraging manner as we slipped up against struggling Bournemouth at Dean Court, a Ian Hart penalty in stoppage time at the end of the first half was enough to hand the Cherries what could be a vital win for them as it sparked a revival, Eddie Howe's men have not lost since, climbing up to the relative safety of thirteenth in the league.
We recovered from that set back stright away by comfortably beating Watford, Troy Deeney impressed me again, scoring Watford's goal, I've been weighing up a bid for him for some time now, he is a prolific scorer at this level but I have to consider whether he would cut it in the Premiership next season, thus far I have held back and saved my money but a move for the £5M rated ex-Walsall striker in the summer isn't out of the question.
Next up we headed to the Theatre of Dreams with a place in the FA cup quarter final on offer, with all but the most optimistic of our supporters expecting a mauling at the hands of the Champions who beat us pretty comprehensively in the League cup earlier this season, Moyes's side absoloutly dominated for the opening 87 minutes of the game, we were penned back as a Schmeichel once again produced a world class display of goalkeeping in front of the Stretford end, dad Peter is of course long retired now as son Kasper repelled shot after shot to keep us in the game following Antonio Valencia's 14th minute opener, you can see from the match stats just how badly we were dominated;
Still, as they say, football is a ninety minute game, switch off for a minute and you will be punished, as was the case here as Dave Nugent found himself free of Johnny Evans who misread a hopeful long ball out of defence to put the forward clean through on David DeGea, Nugent made no mistake as he lashed in his 19th goal of the season to sent the travelling Foxes fans into raptures and take the tie back to the King Power next month!
The FA cup is a source of real excitement for us, if we can pull off an upset at home to Man United in the replay we will face League One Bristol City, no disrespect to Steve Cotterill's side but I fancy us to beat the Robins which would send us to Wembley for the semi finals. Aside from Chelsea wouldn't have much apprehension about facing any of the teams left in the competition. Still, we have to beat United first before I get to carried away.
,
Next came our final East Midlands derby of the season as we journeyed to the City ground to take of Forest, the game was a lacklustre affair that didn't come to life until the last few minutes, it looked as if Forest had snatched it when Dexter Blackstock headed in from a corner in the 85th minute, however, perhaps inspired by the late cup equalizer my boys kept battling right to the death and got their rewards when New Zealand international Chris Wood found himself unmarked to nod past Karl Darlow with the last touch of the game, a sweet moment indeed, and one that ensures we will finish the season unbeaten against any of our Midlands neighbours;
We finished the month with a strong performance against Ipswich, Dave Nugent's 20th strike of the season was quickly followed by a beautiful curler from 20 yards by Andy King who was been influential in the heart of midfield this season.
I'm setting a target of reaching 100 points, which means we can only drop ten points in our remaining fourteen games, should we manage to maintain that kind of form promotion should be done and dusted by the end of next month.

Their just a little bit shit mate.
Yeah, I'm surprised they havn't made more of a go of promotion in real life, I expected them to bounce straight back after they were relegated. I quite liek Blackburn, had some good games with the Villa over the years, I'll never forget that 6-4 cup semi final.
#155139 The Three Horse Race To The Promised Land
2014 kicked off with a vibrant atmosphere around the city of Leicester, as February draws in we still top the Championship with a ten point advantage over the chasing pack and still playing some at times exquisite football. We did suffer our first league defeat since mid-October, however that appears to have just been a minor blip as we have returned to winning ways since.
We kicked off 2014 with a new years day visit to the New Den where a quickfire Dave Nugent brace was enough to see off Ian Holloway's Millwall despite the Lions threatening a late comeback when Ed Upson pulled a goal back in the 81st minute. Next we were back in cup action as we kicked off our FA cup campaign in the first of three Midlands derby games this month as we took on homeless Coventry City at Northampton Town's Sixfields stadium, Two own goals gifted us a two goal lead before Gary Taylor-Fletcher popped up with his first goal since the 3-2 win over Charlton back at the end of August. For the second game running we had to weather a storm at the end as Ryan Hayes and Aston Villa loanee Nathan 'The Fonz' Delfouneso slashed our advantage, however we were able to hang on and claim victory in this M69 derby as well as book our place in the fourth round where we would face Premier League Crystal Palace.
Rivals Derby made the short journey across the county border, eager to avenge the 1-0 defeat we inflicted in our meeting at Pride Park earlier in the season, they made us work hard for a share of the spoils, twice taking the lead, however we had enough quality to come from behind on both occasions as this installment of our ongoing feud finished all square.
A trip to Elland Road is never easy no matter how good your form, and so it proved as a Luke Vardey strike just before half time was enough to ensure Leeds became the first team since fellow Yorkshire outfit Huddersfield last October to claim all three points against us, ending a thirteen game unbeaten streak. we spent most of the game controlling possession but routinely failed to hit the target with the chances we carved out.
After the defeat to Leeds it was important to get back to winning ways as quickly as possible to prevent our position at the top eroding away, however we were twice pegged back by visitors Middlesbrough, one point is of course better than none though.
Next up came the visit of Premiership outfit Crystal Palace to the King Power for our FA cup fourth round tie, Tony Pullis's Eagles are currently doing better than many expected in pre-season as they sit 13th in the league, we however did manage to claim a second Premiership scalp of the season as Dave Nugent's 17th minute strike proved enough against a surprisingly lacklustre Palace side, Tom Ince's pace did cause us some problems down the left side, however his team mates rarely looked like formulating any concerted effort and we absorbed the pressure. The fifth round will see us face another top flight side, either Hull City or another tie with Manchester United.
Finally this month we set off on the 30 mile journey down the M42 to take on struggling Birmingham City. raised an Aston Villa supporter and a former employee of Walsall, I've always hated the Blues so beating them on their own patch and causing them to slide into the relgation zone was rather sweet.
The game itself was made easier by Will Packwood's dismissal shortly after we took the lead through French playmaker Anthony Knockaert. We stretched Lee Clark's diminished side with our silky possession football, Jeffery Schlupp making sure of the result as the left winger netted a brace to ensure we left St. Andrews victorious. This match was perhaps most notable for the debut of my first Foxes signing Ben Watson;
The Wigan captain who scored the Latics stoppage time winner in last seasons FA cup final against Manchester City joins us for a ridiculously cheap,£575k, what a bargain! he will be a useful player in the Premiership let alone here in the second tier so I'm delighted to have picked him up in such as savvy deal.
Despite a slight drop in league form this month the table still makes good reading for Foxes fans at the moment;

#154829 The Three Horse Race To The Promised Land
As I eluded to amidst my ramblings last month, the festive period would be key to our promotion bid, and so it proved as we powered through seven fixtures in the nPower Championship, dropping just two points in the process which has opened up an eleven point gap on second placed Blackburn.
A 1-1 draw with Sheffield Wednesday was notable for little other than both goals coming from the penalty spot. David Prutton converting for the home side when the referee awarded the Owls the spot kick after just two minutes when Wes Morgan brought down Jaques Maghoma. Morgan would make amends for his transgression later however as the captain stepped up to lash home another penalty on the cusp of half time.
David Nugent just can't seem to stop scoring at the moment, the Liverpudlian has been white hot in front of goal, including braces against promotion rivals Burnley and Brighton which put us at arms length from the chasing pack.
Then came the big cup match as Manchester United rolled into town, I had been dreaming of guiding the Foxes to a forth League cup win, however it quickly became apparent that I would not be doing that this year. David Moyes named a rotated side but still with the likes of Juan Mata, Wayne Rooney, Nani and Phil Jones amongst a selection of youngsters, we just weren't able to cope with their attacking strength as United took the lead after just six minutes through Nani before a Wes Morgan own goal doubled their advantage less than ten minutes later. To be fair my boys didn't roll over and die, Nugent pulled a goal back midway through the half and we managed to cause plenty of problems for the Reds defence, however at the other end we just couldn't match them as Rooney and Mata ensured United advance to the semi's. Defeat wasn't unexpected, but of course it was still gut wrenching to get to such a late stage and come up disappointed.
We had to get our heads back in the game straight away after the cup exit as we headed to the capital to face Harry Redknapp's QPR, Liam Moore and Nugent gave us a comfortable two goal lead which was good as we needed it when centre back Moore turned from hero to villain as he picked up a second yellow card, leaving us to defend the lead for 50 minutes with just ten men. Despite QPR throwing the proverbial kitchen sink at us we did hold firm thanks to some tactical tinkering where I protected the back four by dropping the two central midfielders into holding roles and leaving Nugent alone up front, that didn't stop him from scoring again though as he got the goal that killed QPR's spirit and secured us a monumental win.
Another sending off threatened to cost us against Reading in another six pointed, Jeffery Schlupp gave us an early lead before Adam LeFondre equalised just after half time, the dismissal of Wes Morgan on the hour left us in the lurch as the Royals sensed blood, we had to batten down the hatches to weather the storm, our astute defended was reward two minutes from time as Matty James thundered home a pot shot from thirty yards, he doesn't score often but when he does they tend to be spectacular.
We actually managed to keep all eleven players on the field as we steamed over Bolton at the King Power and then went to Millwall, leaving with a hard earned three points to extend our lead at the top to eleven points.
At this point it would be a travesty if we should fail to secure promotion, in the interest of being prepared I have already begun to lay plans for the Premier League next season as we have opened talks with two players, one of whom is an FA cup winning midfielder and the other is one of the Championships most prolific goalscorers. can you guess who they are?
He has been insatiable, 14 goals in 13 games. Long may it continue!
Woooo!
In other news;
Always good to increase your income.

I would be gutted if we didn't, in our current form it shouldn't take long to get our return to top flight confirmed though, just a matter of keeping it going and trying to avoid injuries and suspensions.
#154708 A three way challenge to be the BEST
#154549 The Three Horse Race To The Promised Land
Just the four games this month, resulting in two wins and two draws which just about maintains our position at the head of the table;
The result against Watford was somewhat fortuitous as the Hornets were much the better side throughout, Troy Deeney in particular caused us all sorts of trouble at the back with his strength and pace, he is someone I wouldn't mind taking a closer look at in January. we overturned Deeney's early strike by going 3-5-2 to deal with the unusual formation that Gusseppi Sannio's team were utilising. The 3-5-2 reduced the space Watford had in midfield but still allowed us to pump balls forward for Gary Taylor-Fletcher and Jamie Vardy, the later was on hand to get us back into, and eventually to win us the game despite having being second best throughout.
Then came the visit of hated East Midland neighbours Nottingham Forest to the King Power, both goals coming within minutes of each other in an otherwise drab derby, Dave Nugent made his first start of the season after overcoming an injury, opening the scoring in the 33rd minute to mark the occasion, unfortunately his effort was cancelled out by Guy Moussi just four minutes later.
Next up we made the journey to Portman road to face Mick McCarthy's Ipswich, Nugent opened the scoring in the 33rd minute before Wes Morgan gifted the tractor boys a way back into the game as he prodded the ball into his own net. Lloyd Dyer restored our lead seven minutes into the second half before a Nugent penalty secured the win late on.
I admit I had the visit of Millwall down as a should win match, however after once again conceding in the opening minutes we found ourselves struggling. Simeon Jackson scoring for the Lions. Nugent missed a penalty just after half time but made amends on the hour mark when he brought us level with a well placed drive. things deteriorated from there as centre back Liam Moore saw a straight red for a lunge on Lee Martin, which prompted Paul Konchesky to get involved, saying something untoward to the referee and earning himself a second yellow, meaning we had to hold on for the final ten minutes with nine men and ruining our chances of going on to snatching a win. both players were fined afterwards as I demonstrated my displeasure at their actions.
The Christmas period will be vital as we take on the likes of QPR, Burnley and Reading. If we can rack up the points over the festive period then we could be well clear come new year. There is also the matter of the League cup quarter final to attend to with supporters dreaming of a repeat of 1997 and 2000. Can we make it happen?

Things continue to go well at the King Power stadium, top of the league and into the quater finals of the Capital One cup, these are exciting times for Foxes supporters.
All of our games this month were against sides expected to battle the drop to League One, beginning at Huish Park against Yeovil where we overcame the knitters thanks to goals from Jamie Vardy and Jeffery Schlupp, we then turned north to face former Foxes favourite Paul Dickov's Doncaster Rovers where we just about managed a win, captain Wes Morgan smashing home a penalty just after the interval.
We returned home for the visit of Huddersfield, a prelude to our upcoming League cup tie, unfortunately the Terriers were able to plant the seeds of doubt in the minds of my players by pulling off a smash and grab victory, we were on top start to finish but conceded a corner from a rare Town counter attack from which Mark Robins's men scored and held out despite near constant bombardment to become the first team to leave Leicester with three points this season. Thankfully we bounced back against Bournemouth, the margin of victory should have been greater but I shan't complain, the win kept us top of the SkyBet Championship, can we stay there?
Finally came the game the supporters had been waiting for, the chance to reach the last eight of the League cup, something the club has not done since they won the cup in 2000. We started sluggishly, conceding a goal after just four minutes as Adam Hammill rifled home from the edge of our box, however Huddersfield wer't able to sustain pressure and soon allowed us to begin playing our quick passing game which kept undoing their defence, it took until the 32nd minute when a well worked corner was swept home by young centre half Liam Moore to level the scores. In the end we required extra time to finally see off the Yorkshiremen but Matty James's thunderbolt four minutes from the end was worth the wait, the midfielder picking up the ball in his own half before advancing ten yards and unleashing an unstoppable shot which flew past Alex Smithies and send us through to a home tie against Manchester United.
Can we pull off a upset to reach the semis? We'll have to go above and beyond but who knows? there have certainly been bigger upsets it football history.

#154071 The Three Horse Race To The Promised Land
Another decent month, although I did experience the bitter taste of defeat for the first time, still, if our current form holds throughout the campaign we will be well on course to automatic promotion next May.
A draw with Championship new boys and current FA cup holders Wigan was a reasonable result, both goals in this 1-1 draw coming early on, Marc Anoine-Fortune putting the Latics ahead after just six minutes in before Lloyd Dyer fired us level nine minutes later. We followed up with a hard fought 1-0 victory over Blackburn Rovers with Jamie Vardy's strike on the hour proving just about enough to seal three points and ensure my nine game unbeaten start as Foxes manager was maintained, however as they say, all good things must come to an end and so it did as we returned from our 300 mile round trip to Bloomfield Road with naught but a stick of rock. Dave Jones's tangerines took a two goal lead inside half hour with goals from Steven Davis and Michael Chopra, Wes Morgan pulled a goal back to offer hope, however that hope was quickly snuffed out early in the second half as Faris Haroun restored Blackpool's two goal cushion, a blow from which we never looked like recovering from.
After losing momentum at Blackpool I wasn't quite so optimistic ahead of the visit of Premier league Stoke as I had been when the draw was first made, Alex Grant giving the visitors the lead midway through the first half offered me little encouragement. However the second half was a different matter, my boys battled back bravely against our fellow Midlanders, Lloyd Dyer cutting in from the left flank to level the score in the 56th minute as we took the ascendency. For all our flowing counter attacking play we were unable to get ahead and were punished in the 75th minute when Brek Shea's long distance shot eluded Kasper Schmeichel to put the Potters back ahead, I confess I thought that was the knockout blow, however my lads roused themselves again, piling on the pressure as I threw on the evergreen Kevin Phillips to join Chris Wood and Jamie Vardy in a 4-3-3, If we were going out, we were going out swinging! Just as things were looking bleak, a clumsy Ryan Shawcross challenge on Phillips gave us a precious lifeline as referee Andy Taylor awarded us an 80th minute penalty, up stepped New Zealand international Chris Wood to calmly beat Asmir Begovic and ultimately send the game into extra-time. Both sides were tired, clearly I managed to rouse my players to battle through the pain better than Mark Hughes as Phillips curled home an exquisite freekick just five minutes from the end to send us on our way to the last sixteen where we are set to welcome the Championship's bottom side Huddersfield.
Rest assured I will not be underestimating Huddersfield, but what a golden opportunity we have of reaching the quarter finals! Martin O'Neill guided the club to this trophy twice in the late 90's and early 00's, can I be the one to do it again?
As well as winning us the game Kevin Phillips also made a bit of history;
Finally this month we welcomed Barnsley to the King Power stadium, quelling the threat of a late comeback as the Tykes pulled an 80th minute goal back through Nick Proschwitz, however Anthony Knockeart and Jamie Vardy's early strikes proved enough to get us back to winning ways in the League and maintain an automatic promotion spot.

Thanks matey. Yeah I certainly don't want to lose him, easily the best goalkeeper outside the Premiership.
#153755 The Three Horse Race To The Promised Land
I'm off to a great start as Leicester city manager, second in the league, unbeaten thus far, winning at rivals Derby and advancing through two rounds in the Capital One cup. I couldn't ask for much more than that!
We began on Teeside, opening the campaign against Aitor Karanka's Middlesbrough, I have to take blame for us not coming away with all three points, Paul Konchesky belted in a 74th minute penalty to give us a 2-0 lead, however I decided to push on and switched from 4-4-2 to 4-3-3, bringing on Kevin Phillips in an effort to wrap up the result, however this move backfired spectacularly as Boro swarmed forward, our midfield three were overwhelmed, allowing Boro to steal a way back into the game and take a point.
My first line-up;
A heavily rotated team took the field against League Two Fleetwood for our Capital One cup tie, there was never any threat of an upset in this one, my side as mys side dominated start to finish;
Back in the league we earned a solid 3-1 win over Leeds, an own goal setting us on the way before winger Anthony Knockaert and Lloyd Dyer wrapped up an impressive victory as we headed into our big East Midlands clash with Derby. The trip to Pride Park was never going to be easy, however my lads managed to grind out a narrow victory as Jamie Vardy slotted home the only goal of the game on the cusp of half time, finishing off an lighting fast counter attack which was enough to seal victory in my first meeting with our neighbours.
Our attentions switched from the East Midlands to the West as we beat Birmingham 3-1 despite playing over an hour without Belgian fullback Richie De Laet who was rightly dismissed for an appalling two footed challenge on Brum's on Tom Adeymi. Staying in the West Midlands it was then off to Molenoux to face Wolves in a potentially very tricky League cup tie, the in form Knockaert and equally hot Vardy made sure of our safe passage to the third round where we face yet another Midlands club in the form of Premier League Stoke.
The month was concluded with a trip to South London to take on Charlton, the Addicks didn't make life easy for us, however we dug deep and ground out a result, an own goal helping us on our way to a 2-1 half time lead, Gary Taylor-Fletcher netted his first goal for the club just a minute into the second period, however Chris Powell's men came back strongly, an 80th minute Johnnie Jackson goal made life uncomfortable for us, however we did hold on and ensure we finish August with all three points.
September will see us take on Wigan, Blackburn, Blackpool and Barnsley in the league as well as Stoke in the cup. Some toughies there but in our current form we won't be fearing any of those games.
#153644 The Three Horse Race To The Promised Land
Losing to my own youth team was hardly an ideal start to our preparations, but if you had to chose someone to lose to, who better than your own kids?
We bounced back to absolutely wallop non-league neighbours Coalville Town 8-0 and then overcoming Conference outfit Cambridge 4-1.
Our first big test came with the visit of Arsenal to the King Power stadium, ordinarily a draw with the Gunners would have been a fantastic result, friendly or no, however having lead 2-0 at half time and not going on to to seal the win rankled a bit.
We then headed off to France for a quick tour, getting off the plane like a bolt of lightning as we thrashed Genoble with Jamie Vardy banging in five of the seven goals. Unfortunately that proved to be our only win of the tour as we slipped up against third division Paris FC and then going down to Ligue 1 side Auxerre. We returned home with a credible draw with Europa League contenders Saint Etienne under our belts as our preparations for an opening day trip to Middlesbrough were concluded.
In the League cup we have been drawn at home to League Two club Fleetwood Town, this is one we should certainly win but it is exactly the sort of tie that we see shocks in every year so we shall have to be on our guard.
In other news, I have tied up my MVP for another three years which was one of my first prioritys;
In the interest of fairness to Kasper I inserted a non-promotion release fee of £5M, he is already good enough to play Premiership football and should be there next season, be that with us after winning promotion, or with another club. I don't want to lose him of course but this ensures I will get a reasonable price for him should the worst happen. an insurance policy.
Yeah it is difficult, I had a couple of targets in line but the financial restraints prevented me from finalising the deals. still I'm pretty happy with the squad so there are no alarm bells ringing....yet.

Here is a quick look at my Leicester squad;
I'm pretty happy with it, there are two players for each position if I play 4-4-2, some areas could do with reinforcement, I'll perhaps utitlise the loan market or bring in a free transfer for the right player.
Goalkeeper Kasper Schmeichel is probably my best player, I would be very surprised if he is not playing at a higher level next season, both on FM and in real life as he is too good for the Championship. Up front Dave Nugent, Chris Wood and the evergreen Kevin Phillips should rack up plenty of goals, Wes Morgan and talented youngster Liam Moore form a formidable centre back partnership which should prevent too many going in at the other end.
The bookies put us at 5/1 to win the league, Its certainly not beyond us, however I shall focus on first securing a play-off spot and seeing what happens henceforth.
The club's facilities are good, they will be integral in my plan to engineer long term success;

As you can see I have disabled transfer budgets in the first transfer window, this ensures teams stay as true to life as possible, I can still sign free agents and loans if need be but not spend money which means I will have to explore my reserves and youth team, giving me a much richer feel for my squad as well as making things more realistic.
I have also disabled use of the in-game editor which I expect the other two to do also.
As for player loaded I have loaded all players who are involved in both international teams and club sides playing in Europe which gives me 34,000 players to work with.
The game will start in June, giving me optimal time to establish training routines and familiarise the players with my tactics.

Welcome one and all to this epic event, a three way race between myself, DanW19 and Shedender, the race to the Champions League!
We have chosen to take hold of East Midlands rivals Leicester, Nottingham Forest and Derby, with less than thirty miles between the cities as well as the teams being well matched on the field it should make for an enthralling competition between three of the most experienced story writers on Susie.
Dan has chosen Nottingham Forest, Forest havn't been back to the Premier League since the 1998/99 season, however they are still one of the most succesful teams in Britain with a history to be proud of;
Shedender will take control of the free scoring Derby County who have been impressive in real life this season, standing a good chance of a return to the Premier League next season, can Shedender replicate this? His biggest challenge may well be keeping them in the Premiership, Derby hold the record for worst ever performance in the league after collecting just eleven points all season in 2007/08. Whilst the Rams have no European success like Forest they do have two English titles to their name under Brian Clough in the 70's.
Which leaves me Leicester City, unlike their rivals the foxes have never claimed the English title, their best performnce being as runners up way back in 1928, they have also left Wembely disapointed in four FA cup finals over the years. Three League cup wins, two of which were under Martin O'Neill in the 90's are so far Leicesters crowning achievements. They have however played top flight football as recently as 2004 and shall again next season after securing promotion on the 5th April 2014 under the guidance of Nigel Pearson.
The winner of the challenge will be the manager who brings the Champions league to (or in Dan's case, back to) their club.
Right than, Lets get down to business!
