#28789 Rick's British Steel!
I have loaded all players from the British and Irish isles and selected to start in June to give me maximum time to make any changes to my squad.
One handsome devil with a Sunday league rep.
I begin unemployed, On the first day there are two eligible jobs vacant...
I'm not that keen on managing in Ireland so I'll put that off for now and have applied for the Havant job, If I don't get that I'll just wait for something ese to come up.
#28784 Rick's British Steel!
OK, It's time!
The creator joins the fray, I can't possibly do any worse than my Villa/Coventry save where I wound up getting sacked twice within a year so here's to more successful venture this time around.
I'm sure you all know the objective of the challenge by now, But for the benefit of any newcomers to the board here's a quick overview;
- You must win all the playable trophies within the UK and Ireland, beginning with a Sunday League rep.
- You must use only British and Irish players.
In a nut shell that is it, here's the list of winnable competitions...
England
Fa Trophy, Blue Square North/South, Blue Square Premiership, Johnson's Paint trophy, nPower League Two, nPower League One, nPower Championship, League Cup, Community Shield, FA Cup, Premiership
Scotland
Challenge Cup, Division 3, Division 2, Division 1, League Cup, FA Cup, Premier League
Ireland

I'll be back soon with a more long term British steel challenge, I figure I should at least attempt my own challenge shouldn't I?

Brum is very student orientated as it has two universities (UCE & Aston) As for areas I would personally suggest Erdington or Bourneville.

I used to be in great shape, when I played rugby two years ago I was 20 stone, almost all of which was muscle. However after moving I stopped playing sports and started to get a little podgy, I tried playing for my local football club to counter this but twisted my knee and tore all my ligaments during a pre-season game, The NHS took over a year to get me into surgery to get it repaired which finally happened at the end of August this year.
Obviously the knee needed time to recover so I spent a lot of time on the sofa playing FM or in the pub eating and drinking.
So it's been pretty much two years since I last did any real exercise and as I'm only part-time employed I can't really afford a gym membership but I really need to do something now as my wife had a Epileptic fit this morning and I had real trouble getting her into the recovery position which I have never had before in almost seven years of doing it, It made me realise how out of shape I am. I'm still almost 18 stone and in truth I don't look fat, I think most of my weight is in my legs as I have Roberto Carlos esc thighs and calfs but my arms have lost pretty much all definition and apparently strength.
I live in the country side so I can do a lot of jogging as well as swimming as that's free here in Leicestershire but neither of them are going to do much in terms of building me up.
#28392 Better the second time around?
The new season hasn't got off to as good of a start as I had hoped to be honest, Three defeats in our opening four games doesn't fill me with confidence going into the new campaign.
A good result at Bramall Lane where I had expected more of a test from the Blades, It took us until nine minutes from time to get a goal but we had been in control of the tie throughout.
So we advanced into the next round and were given a mouth watering derby game...
A grudge match in more than one way, We haven't faced my former employers since our relegation from the Premier League in 2001, Can we get one over on the old enemy?
Before we get too excited about cup upsets there were league matters at hand, Losing to newly promoted Bradford wasn't exactly the way I had hoped we would kick off the season.
That's more like it! The red card mid way through the first half obviously helped us out a lot but we'll take it.
Although Bournemouth are a good team this was still a poor result for us, I thought we might get back into it when Leon Best got his first goal since returning to the club but a last gasp penalty killed off any hope of an equalizer.
I was quite prepared for the fact that this was not going to be a winning return to Villa Park, However I was hoping we would show a bit of fight and give the Premiership club a bit of a game. However we spent the entire game entrenched in our own half as Villa knocked the ball around with consummate ease. Bitterly disappointing stuff.
How the hell we lost this game is anyone's guess. We were utterly dominant, enjoying 64% off possession and yet we just couldn't find the net for which we were punished with virtually the last kick of the game. My language was not pleasant.
I think I'm going to have to have a tactical re-think as having a lone striker just doesn't seem to be working, Perhaps partnering Best and Harewood together will finally get the goals flowing, either way something needs to change...
Things may not be going so well on the pitch at the moment but there is some sign of encouragement on the financial front for us...
Maybe the new owner will provide some cash.
Yeah I was quite surprised anyone offered my my full asking price, I was prepared to go down to £750k so that was nice.

As I promised I would, I have made heavy changes to my squad ahead of my first full season in charge at the Ricoh arena which has een no fewer than 28 players leave the club for pastures, The biggest name was Gary McSheffery who joins Burnley for £1M, He along with the sales of Frank Moussa and Jordan Clarke have almost got the club back in the black after being almost £2M overdrawn at the end of last season.
So who have you drafted in place of this mass exodus I here you ask?
Marlon's not the quickest forward in the world but he knows where the net and is a pretty good target man which is what I need for my usual 4-5-1 system. Signed on free transfer after his release from Barnsley.
On loan from my previous employers for the season, Gary is a useful midfielder who has a bright future in my opinion.
Although I didn't pursue David, Parent club Wolves sent him to me, He does look a good player who along with Garder could form an excellent young central midfield pairing.
Meet the new Coventry City captain! Jake joins for the bargain fee of £24k from relegated Derby County. He has all the attrivutes I prize in a player, Brave, determined and with an excellent work ethic.
Another loan signing, Leon should get plenty of goals at this level and will rotate with Marlon Harewood regularly.
My backup keeper to Joe Murphy, Unlikely to see much league action but he is solid enough just in case anything happens to Murphy. Irish U21.
Belgian U21 international who I snapped up after a successful trial, He will be backup to Leon Best and Marlon Harewood.
So here's a quick look at my squad as a whole...
The friendly games went pretty well aside from a mauling from parent club Wolves who have just won promotion back to the Premiership...
First up in the league is a visit to Valley Parade to face newly promoted Bradford, But first we have a League cup tie with now League Two Sheffield United at Bramall Lane to contend with.
Thanks Dan. Yeah I hope so.
Thanks chief, Keep reading!

You should win the Latvian league fairly easily but the real challenge is in Europe as no Latvian club has ever made the group stages.
#28129 English Premier League 2012/2013
So what exactly was the point in spending £24M on him if you can only use him for a season and a half? May as well of had him on loan for a million or so a month and still have paid less.
#28080 The Night Thread Mk. IX
Great diving header too.
#28033 Better the second time around?
The 2012/13 League One season has come to an end, did we manage to secure a play-off spot?
We left it late but eventually picked up three points on the road after coming from behind to sting the Bee's at Griffin park, Lifting us into sixth and thus the play-off places with two big games against Preston and Oldham left to play, Both were still in with a chance of winning the title, In fact we were also mathematically capable of snatching the crown, although it was an extremely long shot as all the teams above us would have to have lost their final two matches and we win ours.
A point with top of the table Oldham wouldn't have been a bad result, Unfortunately a rash tackle by right back Steiner Johnsen handed the Lactics the points as Cliff Bryne belted home their late penalty to see us slip out of the top six and needing to win against Preston in the final game.
We missed the threat of Lee Barnard up front as the strikers loan deal had expired and he had returned to Southampton.
Close but no cigar. When Preston came from behind to take the lead with six minutes to play I thought it was all over, But perhaps cruelly our hopes we suddenly raised again as Matt Sparrow thundered home his second of the day almost instantly to set up a nerve shredding final few minutes. Unfortunately our saving grace never arrived and we are doomed to another season in League One next year.
Still, I'm happy with my start at Coventry City, I only lost one of my first six league games which is encouraging and I will now have the opportunity to begin molding a team into what I want them to be, Like I did at Villa I will be looking for hardworking and committed players to lead the clutch of decent academy players who I want to start bringing through.
P.S. - If you think we underachieved, spare a thought or Sheffield United's supporters!
Thanks mate
#28010 Better the second time around?
We played reasonably well but just couldn't put the ball in the net.
We have to now put it behind us quickly as we have just two days to prepare for league leaders Brentford away with us four points outside of the play-off's with as many games to play.
Prior to the day out at Wembley we were held to a 1-1 draw by Crawley in League action.
#27998 Better the second time around?
As with Villa I immediately dropped all the high earning prima-donna's who aren't willing to work hard and fight for the team, This includes the £1M rated Gary McSheffery who I will be looking to cash in on in the summer.
I found motivating y players was much easier than at Villa, Perhaps that was why things didn't work out for me up the M6.
The match performance it's self was adequate, Not spectacular by any stretch of the imagination but some of the players really impressed me, Especially Nathan Cameron who was great in the heart of defense.
I've already begun looking at potential signing for the summer, Walsall captain Andy Butler is currently top of my short list if I can lure him away from our West Midlands rivals for a reasonable price, I'm also considering trying to raid my former employers for Chirs Heard.

And I don't even have to pull the kids out of school!
Coventry were a Premiership side just a decade or so ago but their decline in fortunes been even more shocking than Villa's and now find themselves in League One...
The previous manager was expected to take the Sky Blues straight back to the Championship but they have been disappointing, Languishing in mid-table. With six games left the play-off's are still reachable but I will have to find a winning formula right away if we are to qualify.
They certainly have a squad which should have walked to automatic promotion in League One but for whatever reason that hasn't happened, It is my job to find out why...
Of course my target it to reach and win the play-off's but I am prepared to spend the summer renovating the squad to my preference and then making a serious challenge for the title next year should we fall short this year.
As an added bonus the club are in the Johnson's Paint Trophy final against Swindon so I have a chance to win a bit of silverware within my first few games.
#27968 English Premier League 2012/2013
£24M I believe.
#27965 Better the second time around?
National. But with only four wins in 16 games within my only job I can see why clubs might turn me town.
I had an offer from SPL side Motherwell but that didn't appeal to me.
#27963 English Premier League 2012/2013
Clearly they are missing Heskey.
#27961 Better the second time around?
Yeah, It's got to be the right job though. I applied to Birmingham City as a parting swipe at Villa but was unsuccessful.
#27959 Better the second time around?
I'm so disappointed how my time with Villa turned out, I had grand things planned but they just weren't to be.
#27907 Better the second time around?
We only had three games this month due to our game with Man City being moved back for TV coverage, Of the three we picked up three points after beating rivals West Brom.
This derby looked to be heading for a draw until Darren Bent's late double saved us, The game itself was quite entertaining, Albion stubbornly refused to roll over and die and twice came back from behind. Thankfully we did manage to pip them in the end to a much needed three points.
Well it wasn't a bad performance defensively but my forward players were ineffective throughout. Under O'Neill Spurs and Villa were locked in a battle for the fourth Champions League place but how far we have slipped in the short time since then because we just didn't look on the same level as Spurs in this game.
I was never expecting anything from this game but we did play some good counter attacking football, Particuarly in the second half, Benteke almost snatched a point late on but was denied on the line by Ashley Cole.
Things are not looking good for my career prospects at the moment...
I can't see Manchester City being eager to help me out next up, So results against QPR, Norwich and Swansea will be essential for me if I am to avoid this becoming a very short career.
