#291630 The SAF Challenge
jambowambo
I'm looking forward to some big matches in this competition this year and it would be brilliant if we can get past the group stage. Just being in this competition is brilliant for income to this club.

I was actually delighted with the games against Lyon - to beat them at home and come quite close to qualifying against them was very pleasing. Elliot Bannon missed the second leg through injury so maybe if he was playing we could have got something more out of the game. Looking forward to the Europa League now though!
For some reason, imgur won't upload the table so I'll just tell you that we're currently 3rd, 1 point behind Celtic and Hearts.
A good month from Matuschak and Budak, my Germans are going well.
Another quick note - a deadline day offer worth up to £8m was rejected for Elliot Bannon from Reading and young right back Aaron Tennant's contract has been terminated after he handed in a transfer request and a new club could not be found for him. His wages were £1.4k p/w which was extortionate for the type of player he is.

You're right, I'm in the Europa League group stages!

Not the best pre-season, although some friendlies were purely for fundraising (especially the Chelsea game).
That's the ins and outs of the club. Far more have left than who have come in due to a lack of wage budget and funds, but the ones who left needed to go. We had a bit of deadwood around in the first team and reserves so needed to get rid of them.
Here's how the 3rd qualifying round of the Champions League went:
Was absolutely delighted after the 5-0 win in Russia and was happy to seal the result with a 0-0 draw at Central Park.
We've been drawn against Olympique Lyonnais in the Best Placed Playoff so not sure what to expect!

Good luck!

Cheers mate, fearing the worst about that tie though!
Do you know if we go into the Europa League if I lose? Or am I out of Europe all together?

8,748 is the capacity and our average attendance last year was 4,027 so about half full on average - against Zenit there was only 6,565 there.
Hoping for better attendances this season though, looking to draw in the fans.

I'm hoping so but I've not been given much financial backing from the board at all, although they are currently upgrading training and youth facilities but I've not been able to pull off any good transfers.
Also hoping for a good run in the Champions League and maybe a cup for us!

Elliot Bannon won Scottish Footballer of the Year
Sergen Budak came third in Player of the Season
Elliot Bannon came second in Top Goalscorer
Sergen Budak and Elliot Bannon were named in the SPL team of the year.
Two signings have been finalised for next season:
Left back Adam Chicksen has signed from Hearts for a total of £45k. Chicksen, 25, should fill the gap at left back that has been the weak point with Zaine Francis-Angol and Allan Coezy switching between the two for the position.
Centre midfielder Arjan Vangjeli has joined on a free transfer after his youth contract with Borussia Dortmund ran out. Vangjeli, 18, joins fellow Germans Sergen Budak, Dustin Matuschak, Daniel Büttner and Kai Simon at the Blue Brazil.

A good end to the season. Elliot Bannon went on a good run, seven goals in the last five games. Unfortunately Celtic's Chris Wood has just beaten him to the golden boot as he scored the same amount of goals from less games.
Here's how the table finished:
Hoping to build for next season and get far in Champions League qualifying and hopefully pose more of a threat to Celtic than we have in the past two seasons. Would also be nice to win a cup.
#83181 The SAF Challenge

There's also a new signing to tell you about.

A few seasons ago I was going to move club to try and get the Europa League but now I think I've built a very good, young squad with Cowdenbeath so I might as well stay and do it all at one club!
#83179 The SAF Challenge

I'm hoping so, was hoping for at least a final this year but it wasn't to be.
#291624 The SAF Challenge

Inconsistency is starting to creep in a bit, and disappointed to be out of the Scottish Cup in the quarter final but took St Mirren all the way to penalties. Elliot Bannon was injured in the win against Aberdeen and hasn't played since, hoping to have him back soon. Disappointed to draw against Dundee because that was a game we really should have won.
Here's the table:
Second looks like it's ours. Celtic have already won the league so no chance of a late chase for the title!
No awards this month either.
#291623 The SAF Challenge
jambowambo
Our form has been terrible this month - we haven't even picked up a win. We need to sort our form out otherwise we may lose our grasp on second place.
Here's the table:
Still 10 points clear of Hearts but if our form doesn't pick up, we may start to drop down.
Next game is the cup replay against St Mirren so hopefully we can win and get into the semi final against Hearts.
Sergen Budak once again won young player of the month despite our poor form.
#291622 The SAF Challenge
jambowambo
Another brilliant month. I'm hoping that we can win the Scottish Cup, or at least make it to the final. My league form is everything I'd want it to be at the moment and I'm hoping my cup form can follow, as it did against Hibernian. I face St Mirren in the quarter final of the Scottish Cup and I'm hoping to progress through that. An interesting draw in the quarter final as Celtic are at home to Rangers!
Here's the table:
It looks pretty certain that Celtic are top and we've claimed 2nd, don't want to get complacent though.
In transfer news, John Armstrong has joined Linfield for £10k and Scott Linton has joined Sligo Rovers for £20k after they both asked to move on due to their lack of first team football which is understandable.
No awards this month. Sergen Budak came second in player of the month and young player of the month, Elliot Bannon claimed 3rd place in young player of the month and I came 2nd in manager of the month behind Neil Lennon of Celtic.

After the success of Germans Sergen Budak and Daniel Büttner at the club, the club have signed German center back Dustin Matuschak on a free transfer after Borussia Dortmund terminated his contract. Matuschak, 18, stands tall at 6ft 6" and is seen as a hot prospect for the future.
The next player to join the club was 24 year old Welshman Lloyd Isgrove. Because of the link the club have with Coventry City, Lloyd's parent club were able to send Lloyd to Cowdenbeath for him to have some first team football. Lloyd, a winger who can play on the left and the right, has joined the club until the end of the season.
Spanish right midfielder Eduardo has joined on a free transfer from giants Barcelona. Eduardo, 20, is seen as the next best signing for the future for Butterfield who is clearly looking to future stars for his side.

Another good month, was very happy with the 2-0 win over Celtic in a game where we dominated and managed to prevent them from scoring. If only we could do that 5 days earlier...
We are definitely an improving side with a lot of brilliant young talent that I will be doing my best to keep hold of. Elliot Bannon is having a superb season and I'm so glad he's decided to stay.
Lewis Milne and Ross Davidson have both departed the club to make room for the new central midfielders who ave arrived (Joey Barton and Rui). Talking of which, Joey Barton has torn his hamstring and is out for 3-4 months in just his 3rd game for the club.
I also forgot to add that the club got taken over and Mr Findlay handed over the reins to Mr Morrison, who seems to be just as helpful.
So here's the table:
So, Celtic have ran away with the league already and it looks like I have secured 2nd unless anything drastic happens. Scotland's continental qualification has been upgraded so 2nd place now qualifies for a Champions League qualifying spot which should be good!
Awards:
A clean sweep for us. Now onto 2017!

In other news, Elliot Bannon decided to withdraw his transfer request and stay at Cowdenbeath which I am delighted with.
#291618 The SAF Challenge
jambowambo
Our first defeat in the lead came against Hibernian as we were poor. There were good wins against Inverness and Dundee United and a draw against St Mirren meant it was quite a good week. A weakened side managed to beat Second Division side Elgin City after we dominated all game.
On the Elliot Bannon front, I've decided to play him until January and find a new club for him then. I've rejected offers from Arsenal and Hull City that just weren't good enough.
Here's how the table looks:
Sitting 3rd but with a game in hand on Hearts (against Celtic).

This means our squad is being run down to the wire, especially with the absence of Elliot Bannon and Lewis Milne.
#291615 The SAF Challenge
jambowambo
I fear the loss of Bannon and Milne may have a serious affect on our season. They handed in their requests on 24th October and I made the decision to leave them out of the team entirely for the cup game against Inverness, where we lost 2-0.
With Milne's future decided, I'm still waiting for a good offer for Bannon or for him to see sense and stay at the mighty Blue Brazil!
Celtic's perfect start has continued and we're the only other team unbeaten.
Glad to have won more than I drew this month in the league!
Sergen Budak once again won young player of the month and I came second in manager of the month.
#291614 The SAF Challenge
jambowambo
He then thought it was appropriate to complain about being replaced as captain, so I effectively told him where to shove it.
Peter Dyer is now captain.
Lewis Milne has since signed for Leeds United and will move when the January transfer window, however I was disappointed to see that he had a minimum release clause of £150k in his contract that I must have missed.
#291613 The SAF Challenge
jambowambo
In compliance with the rules of the challenge, I'm going to have to let them go.
I'm not letting them go for nothing though, I want a lot of money through these sales.
#291612 The SAF Challenge
jambowambo
It's very tempting to apply for the job at the team I've supported all my life, but I'm not ready to move south of the border just yet. Maybe next time round...
#291611 The SAF Challenge
jambowambo
Still unbeaten in all Scottish competitions. Too many draws in the league are costing us I think, but that 6-1 hammering of Motherwell was a very good game and I'm hoping we can now build on that. They couldn't deal with Sergen Budak from corners and he scored 3 in quick succession to put the game beyond doubt. Was good to see Bob McHugh score against his old team!
Here's the table:
Sitting second, behind Celtic of course. Finishing second would be a very good season for us again.
Awards:
Sergen Budak very nearly got both player of the month and young player of the month, only to be beaten by Dundee United striker Grant Holt!
Third in player of the month was Elliot Bannon, and I got third in manager of the month.
We did a full sweep of young player of the month:
Junior Ogaga's contribution sometimes goes unnoticed but he provides some great assists as well as some vital goals.
#291610 The SAF Challenge
jambowambo
Got this news just before my next game. It's a pity really because Mr Findlay has given me everything I've asked him for, including extra wage budget, to relay the pitch and better youth and training facilities.
I'm hoping the next chairman is as kind! And a bit of money about him would be good too...
#291609 The SAF Challenge
jambowambo
Not too happy with this month if I'm honest, despite staying unbeaten. The 3-0 win against Inverness was a good result but we couldn't build on that with any other results. A positive that we can take is that we didn't concede all month.
Here's the table:
Would like to be higher up but it's early days yet.
He's had a good start to the season, and good to see Bannon getting runner up.
I rejected two offers from Fulham for Elliot Bannon, both worth an initial £5m. I have once again managed to keep him at Cowdenbeath and I'm hoping I can keep him for a long time.
