http://i50.tinypic.com/28qpvr9.jpg

We can confirm that manager Phil Walker has handed two players and two members of staff new deals today.

The two players to sign new deals with the club are centre-back Monty Gimpel, and young goalkeeper Eric Grimes. Defender Gimpel, 19, is yet to make his senior debut with us, but he is being tipped for big things in the future, and Phil Walker has handed him a deal until June 2017, with the defender looking to make the break into the first team this season. Young goalkeeper Grimes, 17, has signed his first ever professional contract today, a deal which will keep him with us until June 2015, and he will be hoping to break into the first team in the next few years.

The two members of staff to sign deals are Neil Redfearn and Alan Sutton. Redfearn, 47, has been handed a new role at the club, he has been promoted him from under 18s boss, to be the manager of the reserve team, but he will do both jobs while a replacement is found for the under 18s manager role, in terms of his contract he will stay until June 2015. Long serving Sutton remains with us in his role as first team physio, he has signed a new deal until June 2014. He has had two spells with us as a physio, his first was from 1986 to 2007, while his current spell as physio began in 2010.

Becchio inspires a Leeds United comeback.

Luciano Becchio inspired a Leeds United comeback at Elland Road tonight, as they came from 1-0 down to beat Watford 2-1.

Leeds United came into this match on the back of a 2-1 victory at Middlesbrough, and manager Phil Walker made six changes for the second game in a row, out went Jason Pearce, El-Hadji Diouf, Aidan White, Rodolph Austin, David Norris and Ross McCormack, with Patrick Kisnorbo, Paul Green, Luke Varney, Michael Brown, Ramon Nunez and Davide Somma replacing them.

Watford made a total of two changes from the 1-0 defeat against Birmingham City, out went John Eustace and Sean Murray, to be replaced by Jonathan Hogg and Daniel Pudil.

The first chance of the match came to the home side on 14 minutes, and it was Michael Brown with the chance. The chance came from a free kick which Davide Somma had won, up stepped Brown to curl a ball into the far post, which nearly caught Watford goalkeeper Manuel Alumnia out, but he managed to get there and tip the shot round the post to concede a corner.

The Hornets stung the home side just four minutes after that chance for the hosts, with centre-back Joel Ekstrand giving them the lead. The goal was created by a corner from Andrea Mazzarini on the right, his cross into the box found Ekstrand unmarked in the area, and he beat Paddy Kenny to the ball and headed the ball into the back of the net, to give the visitors the lead.

The lead for the visitors did not last long though, 12 minutes later and it was Luciano Becchio who equalised for the hosts. The goal came from good passing play by The Whites, Ramon Nunez played a good ball into Davide Somma, the South African then slipped the ball into the run of Becchio, and the Argentinian striker slotted home a first time shot past Manuel Almunia.

The second half started off badly for the visitors, with midfielder Jonathan Hogg being sent off on 48 minutes. The Watford number eight had been booked in the first half, and after clattering into the back of Ramon Nunez, referee Mike Jones handed him his second yellow card and sent him off, for an early bath.

The hosts grabbed the winner just after the hour mark, with Luciano Becchio grabbing his and The Whites second goal of the game. The goal came from a penalty which was won by centre-back Tom Lees, he was shoved in the area by Daniel Pudil, the shove was not seen by the referee but was by his assistant who flagged for the penalty, striker Becchio stepped up and slotted the ball into his bottom left hand corner, with Manuel Almunia being sent the wrong way.

The Whites could have made it 3-1 in the closing stages, with Dominic Poleon going close with a curling shot. The Whites striker picked the ball up from an El-Hadji Diouf pass, before taking a good first touch, before curling a shot towards the far corner, and despite beating Manuel Almunia, the shot curled just wide of the far post.

Full time here at Elland Road on a mild November night, and Leeds United have fought back from 1-0 down to take all three points, thanks to a double from Luciano Becchio, but Watford will know the turning point tonight was Jonathan Hogg being sent off.

Leeds United manager, Phil Walker, on the comeback. "Well I am delighted with the victory tonight, we had to fight from 1-0 down to grab all three points, and we also showed we wanted more than two goals tonight, especially when I brought Dominic (Poleon) off the bench towards the end."

Watford boss, Gianfranco Zola, on the defeat. "We started the game off great tonight and took the lead on 18 minutes, but Leeds United they showed their quality after that, and the red card that Jonathan (Hogg) picked up was a big blow for us."

Leeds United starting line-up (4-4-2). Kenny, Peltier (c) (Poleon 77), Lees, Kisnorbo (c), Drury, Green, Brown, Nunez (Byram 61), Varney, Somma (Diouf 61), Becchio.
Subs not used. Ashdown (gk), Pugh, Austin, White.
Goals. Becchio 30, pen 66.

Subs not used. Elliot (gk), Hall, Shaw, Forestieri.
Goal. Ekstrand 18.
Booked. Abdi, Hogg, Pudil, Nosworthy.
Sent off. Hogg.

Attendance. 21,596.

Man of the Match. Luciano Becchio (Leeds United), rated at 8.6 over 90 minutes. The Leeds United striker fired two goals tonight at Elland Road, as he helped fire his team to victory after trailing to the visitors.

Ipswich Town appoint Billy Davies as manager.

Ipswich Town can today confirm that Billy Davies has been appointed the new manager at the club.

Davies, 48, has been unemployed from the world of football for over a year, after he was sacked by Nottingham Forest in June 2011, but he has today signed a deal at Portman Road until June 2015.

The Scottish manager has taken over from Paul Jewell as manager of The Tractor Boys, who was sacked just over a week ago, with the club in the relegation places in the npower Championship. The East Anglian side have not had a great campaign so far, with just two victories in the league this season, and they lost at fellow strugglers Bristol City 2-0 on Saturday.

It will be a tough start for Davies as manager of Ipswich Town, although he does start against joint bottom of the table Charlton Athletic at Portman Road tomorrow night, they then face trips to Burnley and Wolves, before taking on Sheffield Wednesday and Derby County at Portman Road.

Billy Davies on his new job at Ipswich Town. "All I can say is it is great to be back in football management, I have had a few job offers since my last job at Nottingham Forest, but I have been waiting for the right one and a challenge, I believe this fits both of those categories, and this season I will be looking to keep this club in this division."

ROSS OUT FOR AROUND SEVEN WEEKS.

4 November 2012.
………………………………………………………………………………………………………………
Top scorer to miss some key games.

http://i47.tinypic.com/15y7k2e.jpg

Ross McCormack has been ruled out for around seven weeks with an ankle injury.

The Scottish international, 26, picked up a sprained ankle in the 24th minute of the 2-1 win at Middlesbrough yesterday afternoon, and after further scans on the injury, it seems he has sustained a sprained ankle, after landing heavily on it.

Boss Phil Walker on the injury to McCormack. "Of course the injury to Ross McCormack is a big blow for us, after all he is our top scorer so far this season, but this will give the others a chance to impress me, and hopefully pitch in with some important goals for the club."

Leicester City sack manager Nigel Pearson.

Pearson sacked with The Foxes two points above the relegation zone.

Nigel Pearson has been sacked tonight by Leicester City, with the club losing to Huddersfield Town earlier today.

Pearson, 49, was in his second spell as manager of the Midlands club, but has tonight been sacked by the Managing Director of Leicester City, Aiyawatt Raksriaksorn, after The Foxes recent run of bad results, which has left them two points above the relegation places.

The Foxes had been tipped for bright things during pre-season, with the media tipping them to finish in the top half of the npower Championship, but the season so far has seen them at the wrong end of the table, and that is despite having the likes of Kasper Schmeichel, David Nugent, Paul Gallagher and Neil Danns in the team.

The names being tipped to takeover at the King Power Stadium as manager are Roy Keane, Gareth Southgate and Jimmy Calderwood, although Billy Davies is the favourite to takeover at the club, despite Davies having managed Derby County and Nottingham Forest, in the past six years.

The Whites fortunate to win at The Riverside Stadium.

Leeds United got back to winning ways this afternoon by beating Middlesbrough 2-1 at The Riverside Stadium, but they also saw Ross McCormack limp off injured in the first half.

Middlesbrough came into the game having made six changes from the win during the week at Reading, out went George Friend, Andre Amougou, Richard Smallwood, Scott McDonald, Lukas Jutkiewicz and Cameron Park, to be replaced by Matthew Briggs, Rhys Williams, Merouane Zemmama, Stuart Parnaby, Ishmael Miller and Emmanuel Ledesma.

Leeds United also made six changes from the 1-0 defeat away to Wolves, out went Danny Pugh, Sam Byram, Luke Varney, Michael Brown, Paul Green and Davide Somma, with Adam Drury, El-Hadji Diouf, Aidan White, Rodolph Austin, David Norris and Ross McCormack replacing them.

The visitors took the lead inside the opening 15 minutes, thanks to a powerful header from Luciano Becchio. The goal was created by striker Ross McCormack, he had found himself out wide on the right flank, before whipping the ball into the box to find Becchio, who was being marked by three Boro defenders, but was able to power a header into the roof of the goal, with Jason Steele beaten.

Leeds United striker Ross McCormack limped off on 24 minutes, after landing heavily on his ankle, he was replaced by Luke Varney in the attack, and the Scottish striker headed straight down the tunnel.

The home side tested Paddy Kenny on 28 minutes, with Emmanuel Ledesma forcing a good save out of the goalkeeper. The ball came to the Argentinian midfielder from a Stuart Parnaby pass, the Boro winger then beat a Lee Peltier challenge, before firing a shot into the bottom corner, but Kenny did well to deny him on the near post.

The Whites doubled their lead with a bizarre goal on 31 minutes, with midfielder Rodolph Austin finding the net. The chance came after Austin and Lee Peltier played a one-two, and that found Austin in space on the edge of the area, before hitting a first time cross into the far post, which went straight in.

The home side cut the deficit just eight minutes later, when Ishmael Miller slotted the ball home. The Boro number 30 was found by a Marvin Emnes pass, the striker then took a touch before smashing the ball past Paddy Kenny, and into the back of the net.

The hosts had a great chance just after the hour mark, but Ishmael Miller could only find the side netting. The Boro striker was found by a Merouane Zemmama pass behind the visitors defence, but with only Paddy Kenny to beat, Miller could only smash his shot against the side of the goal.

The final good chance of the game once again fell to Middlesbrough, with striker Marvin Emnes forcing Paddy Kenny into a good low save, in the North East rain. The number nine was found by a Rhys Williams pass, and he took a touch before hitting a low drive, which Kenny pushed wide with a strong two handed save.

Full time here at The Riverside Stadium and Leeds have got back to winning ways, thanks to goals from Luciano Becchio and Rodolph Austin, Ishmael Miller pulled one back for the hosts, and despite pressure the visitors managed to hold them out, to grab all three points.

Middlesbrough manager, Tony Mowbray, on the defeat. "I feel we were unlucky to lose this afternoon, we put Leeds under pressure all game, and you would think we was the team flying high in the league, with Leeds just above the relegation zones after today."

Leeds United manager, Phil Walker, on the win. "A good win for us today in the North East rain, they was the better side so to get all three points is great. I am a little disappointed we have lost Ross (McCormack) to injury, we will have to wait to see the full extent of his injury, but I am hoping he will not be out for too long."

Middlesbrough starting line-up (4-4-2). Steele, Hoyte, Hines (Woodgate 78), McManus, Briggs, Zemmama, Williams (c), Parnaby (Arca 45), Ledesma, Emnes, Miller (Jutkiewicz 83).
Subs not used. Leutwiler (gk), McDonald, Carayol, Halliday.
Goal. Miller 39.

Leeds United starting line-up (4-4-2). Kenny, Peltier (c), Lees, Pearce, Drury, Diouf, Austin, Norris, White (Green 62), Becchio, McCormack (Varney 24).
Subs not used. Ashdown (gk), Kisnorbo, Pugh, Poleon, Byram.
Goals. Becchio 13, Austin 31.

Attendance. 19,593.
Referee. Lee Probert.
Man of the Match. Tom Lees (Leeds United), rated at 8.0 over 90 minutes. The centre-back kept the home side from scoring more than one goal this afternoon, by putting his body on the line a number of times, so that won him the man of the match award.

Leeds United suffered defeat at the hands of Wolves tonight at Molineux, with Kevin Doyle scoring the only goal of the match.

Wolves came into this top of the table clash on the back of a 2-1 win at Hull City, and they made two changes from that victory, out went Slawomi Peszko and Tongo Doumbia, to be replaced by Nigel Reo-Coker and Ronald Zubar.

The visitors made three changes from the 2-1 win last time out over Derby County, out went El-Hadji Diouf, Rodolph Austin and Ross McCormack, with Sam Byram, Michael Brown and Davide Somma replacing them.

The first incident of the match was an injury to Leeds United attacker Luke Varney, who was caught by a late tackle from Ronald Zubar. The Whites attacked Varney picked up a nasty knock to his ankle, that was after he had knocked the ball down the line, before being caught late by a Zubar tackle, which caused the knock to Varney, and he was replaced by left-back Adam Drury.

The first chance of the match came on 23 minutes, and it was Michael Brown who had the chance. The ball came to the number 17 from a Sam Byram pass, and Brown then skipped past a challenge from Roger Johnson, before hitting a low shot at goal, which Wayne Hennessey had to get down and tip wide.

The next chance of the game fell to the visitors once again, this time it was Luciano Becchio with the chance. The chance for the Argentinian striker came from a Danny Pugh cross, which came to the far post to find Becchio, and he got up and beat Richard Stearman in the air, his header was going in until Wayne Hennessey tipped wide.

The home side took the lead on the hour mark, with Republic of Ireland striker Kevin Doyle finding the net. The goal was created from a corner out on the right, it was Stephen Hunt who whipped the corner into the box, and the ball found striker Doyle, who flicked the ball on into the far corner, to put the home side 1-0 up.

Wolves had the ball in the back of the net once again with ten minutes remaining, but this time the goal was ruled out for offside. The ball was put in the back of the Leeds net by Kevin Foley, he was found in the penalty box by a Karl Henry cross, and powered the ball past Paddy Kenny with his head, but the linesman had his flag up, and the goal was disallowed for offside.

Full time here at Molineux and Wolves move seven points clear of Leeds United at the top of the table, thanks to a header from Kevin Doyle on the hour mark, despite Leeds winning most stats in the game tonight.

Wolves manager, Stale Solbakken, on the victory. "A great win for us tonight, Leeds United came here and dominated the game, but we got the all-important goal on the hour mark, and that helped to clinch all three points tonight, which sends us seven points clear at the top."

Leeds United manager, Phil Walker, on the defeat. "In a way I am disappointed with the defeat tonight, we dominated the game in the first period, and in most of the stats from the match, but we were playing a side who are top of the table, plus they have kept key players from their Premier League squad from last season."

Wolves starting line-up (4-4-2). Hennessey, Zubar, Stearman, Johnson, Ward, Foley, Henry (c), Reo-Coker, Hunt, Doyle, Ebanks-Blake.
Subs not used. de Vries (gk), Jonsson, Berra, Boukari, Batth, Davis, Sako.
Goal. Doyle 60.
Booked. Reo-Coker, Hunt, Henry.

Leeds United starting line-up (4-4-2). Kenny, Peltier (c), Lees, Pearce, Pugh, Byram (Diouf 57), Brown, Green, Varney (Drury 12), Somma (Norris 73), Becchio.
Subs not used. Ashdown (gk), Kisnorbo, White, McCormack.

Attendance. 24,928.
Referee. Mark Clattenburg.
Man of the Match. Wayne Hennessey (Wolves), rated at 8.1 over 90 minutes. The Wolves keeper kept Leeds United out tonight, which helped the club to victory and to move seven points clear at the top.

Paul Jewell sacked by The Tractor Boys.

Ipswich Town have tonight sacked manager Paul Jewell, after a 4-0 defeat at Bolton Wanderers left them in 23rd place in the table.

Jewell, 48, took over at Portman Road in January 2011, after Roy Keane was sacked by chairman Marcus Evans, and Evans has wielded the axe yet again this evening, after a poor run of results over the recent weeks, which has seen the club win just two games out of ten, it is thought Jewell has been sacked for the good of the team, and try and get the team back to winning ways.

The Tractor Boys came into this campaign tipped to struggle, but stay out of the relegation zone, but so they have spent most of this season in the relegation zone, with Jewell falling out with a number of key players, including Jay Emmanuel-Thomas, Aaron Cresswell and Michael Chopra, with all those three players having slapped transfer requests in at the club.

The names in the hat for the job at Portman Road are Jimmy Calderwood, Gareth Southgate, Andy Thorn and Billy Davies, but it is not clear who the favourite for the job is.

Gordon Strachan appointed boss at Pride Park.

Derby County have this afternoon appointed their new manager, with Gordon Strachan being handed the job at Pride Park.

Strachan, who has been out of work since October 2010, after parting company with Middlesbrough, has signed a deal at Pride Park until June 2015, with the npower Championship club.

The 55-year-old succeeds Nigel Clough as manager of The Rams, who was sacked less than 48 hours ago, after a terrible start to the season for the club, which has seen the club not win in eight games, and currently lie in the relegation zone.

The new manager at Pride Park, is said to be delighted at the chance to be back involved in the day-to-day running of football management, where he will be hoping to bring fresh momentum to the squad, and lift them up the table as soon as possible.

The first five games for Strachan will be tough, but four of those games are at Pride Park, with Birmingham City, Hull City, Millwall and Barnsley all coming to Pride Park, while they do face a trip to Bloomfield Park to face Blackpool.

Gordon Strachan on being appointed manager at Derby County. "I am delighted to be named as manager here at Pride Park this afternoon, I feel that my break of over two years from football has done me good, I have still stayed in touch with the football world through my role as a pundit, and feel this is the right time and job to come back into football with."

Nigel Clough sacked by Derby County.

Clough leaves with The Rams in the relegation zone.

Derby County have sacked manager Nigel Clough tonight, less than three hours after the 2-0 defeat at Leeds United.

Clough, 46, has been in charge of The Rams since January 2009, after Paul Jewell quit as manager in December 2008, but after a poor start to the new season, which sees the club in 22nd place, and without a win in eight games, the club chairman Andy Appleby has wielded the axe, with him looking for the club to avoid relegation, from the npower Championship.

The Rams were predicted to finish around mid-table in pre-season by pundits, with the likes of Conor Sammon, Theo Robinson, Jeff Hendrick and Frank Fielding in the team, but they have not built on that hype, and find themselves in a relegation battle.

The main candidates for the job at Pride Park are Gareth Southgate, Andy Thorn and Andy Ritchie, but the main candidate for the job seems to be Gordon Strachan, who has been out of work since leaving Middlesbrough, in October 2010.

Leeds United got back to winning ways tonight at home to Derby County, with the West Yorkshire side winning 2-1.

Leeds United made three changes from the draw with Sheffield Wednesday at the weekend, out went Sam Byram, Aidan White and David Norris, with El-Hadji Diouf, Luke Varney and Paul Green replacing them in the starting line-up.

The Rams made just the one change from the side that drew 0-0 away to Cardiff City, James O'Connor was replaced by Gareth Roberts in the starting line-up.

The Whites had the first chance of the match, with Ross McCormack hitting the woodwork on five minutes. The Scottish striker was found by ex-Derby man Paul Green, who was facing The Rams for the first time since his move to Leeds in the summer, McCormack then turned away from centre-back Richard Keogh, before hitting a low shot, which hit the foot of the post before coming back into play.

Leeds United took the lead on 15 minutes, with Luciano Becchio finding the net with a penalty. In the build-up to the penalty, the home side could have had another one awarded, the cross from Luke Varney hit the arm of Mark O'Brien, but play was waved on, the ball then fell to Ross McCormack who was brought down, to win a penalty for the home side, striker Becchio took the penalty and fired it home into the bottom right hand corner, to make it 1-0 to the home side.

The home side made it 2-0 on 32 minutes, with Rodolph Austin getting his first for the club, since joining from SK Brann in the summer. The assist for the goal once again came from Ross McCormack, the number 44 got the ball from a poor Gareth Roberts clearance, and then slipped the ball through into the run of Austin, who slotted home past Frank Fielding, with the Derby defence concentrating on Luciano Becchio, who was in an offside position.

The visitors were reduced to ten men on 39 minutes, when Jamie Ward was given a second booking, in just three minutes. The Derby striker firstly got booked for catching El-Hadji Diouf with a late tackle, the number ten then pushed Tom Lees in frustration, and was handing a second yellow card.

The visiting team had their first chance on target on 79 minutes, but Conor Sammon had his strike disallowed for offside. The Derby striker was found by a David Meyler pass, and Sammon had skipped past a challenge from Patrick Kisnorbo challenge, before slotting it home into the net, but the offside flag was up.

The Rams had the ball in the back of the net once again just four minutes later, but this time the strike stood, and yet again it was Conor Sammon who found the net. The striker was found by a Craig Bryson pass, and got away from Patrick Kisnorbo once again, before firing home a low drive past Paddy Kenny, to pull a goal back for the visitors.

Full time here at Elland Road and Leeds United have took all three points tonight, by beating Derby County 2-1, thanks to goals from Luciano Becchio and Rodolph Austin, the visitors did pull one back through Conor Sammon, but the home side held on to grab then three points. The Whites extend their unbeaten run to eight games, while the pressure mounts on Derby County boss Nigel Clough, who have not won a game in eight.

Leeds United manager, Phil Walker, on the victory. "A good win tonight for us, but we had 25 shots on the Derby goal tonight, so to only score two goals is not great, but a win is a win and keeps up our unbeaten run."

Derby County manager, Nigel Clough, on the defeat. "Well yet again we fail to win and in every stat we were second best tonight, so this is going to have to change, especially if we want to stay up this season."

Leeds United starting line-up (4-4-2). Kenny, Peltier (c), Lees (Kisnorbo 59), Pearce, Pugh, Diouf, Austin, Green, Varney (Drury 59), McCormack, Becchio (Somma 74).
Subs not used. Ashdown (gk), Thompson, White, Byram.

Yorkshire derby ends all square at Elland Road.

The Yorkshire derby at Elland Road this afternoon finished all square, with Leeds United and Sheffield Wednesday drawing 1-1.

Leeds United came into the match having made five changes from the win over Charlton Athletic, out went Jamie Ashdown, Zac Thompson, Luke Varney, Ramon Nunez and Davide Somma, with Paddy Kenny, Lee Peltier, Danny Pugh, David Norris and Luciano Becchio replacing them.

Sheffield Wednesday made just two changes from the 1-0 win at Cardiff City, out went Reda Johnson and Abdul Razak, with Joe Mattock and George Boateng replacing them.

The day started badly for the visiting team, when midfielder George Boateng was stretchered off after just nine minutes, after a bad tackle from Rodolph Austin, left him with a suspected broken foot, and he was replaced by Abdul Razak.

Leeds United took advantage of that injury to George Boateng, and opened the scoring just a minute later, with Luciano Becchio finding the net. The goal was created by goalkeeper Paddy Kenny, the ex-Sheffield United keeper fired the ball downfield from a goal kick, and the ball bounced over the top for Becchio to latch onto, he took a good first touch, before burying the ball into the back of the net.

The next chance in the Yorkshire derby came on 34 minutes, with Sheffield Wednesday midfielder Michail Antonio going close. The midfielder picked the ball up from a Jose Semedo pass, before skipping past a challenge from left-back Danny Pugh, and then firing in a low drive, which went just wide of the far post, with Paddy Kenny beaten.

The visitors had the first chance of the second half, with striker Jay Bothroyd clipping the crossbar with a header, on 48 minutes. The chance was created by left-back Joe Mattock, he had broken forward from the back and was found by a Abdul Razak pass, before floating the ball into the far post, which found the head of Bothroyd, but his header clipped the crossbar on the way over.

The pressure from The Owls finally paid off with 20 minutes remaining, when Jay Bothroyd finally found a way past Paddy Kenny to make it 1-1. The assist for the goal went to Michail Antonio, he picked the ball up out wide from a Lewis Buxton pass, before whipping the ball in with pace to find Bothroyd, his initial header was tipped onto the crossbar by Paddy Kenny, but the ball fell to Bothroyd and he slotted home to equalise for the visitors.

Nothing much really happened after that equaliser from Sheffield Wednesday, and the referee blew his whistle for full time in a Yorkshire derby, which the visitors dominated and should have won, but the home side were kept in the game by a man of the match performance from Paddy Kenny, he kept them in the game today, and kept the visitors out.

Leeds United manager, Phil Walker, on the draw. "This afternoon we were very disappointing, and to be fair we were very lucky to pick up a point today, so we will have to improve when Derby County come here on Tuesday."

Sheffield Wednesday manager, Dave Jones, on the point and the Boateng injury. "A good point for us this afternoon but I am very disappointed with the referee, we lost George (Boateng) who was stretchered off on nine minutes, but there was not even a yellow card for their number eight (Rodolph Austin), and it was a horror tackle."

Leeds United starting line-up (4-4-2). Kenny, Peltier (c), Lees, Pearce, Pugh, Byram (Diouf 57), Austin, Norris (Brown 57), White, McCormack (Somma 73), Becchio.
Subs not used. Ashdown (gk), Green, Kisnorbo, Drury.
Goal. Becchio 10.
Booked. Becchio, Norris.

Sheffield Wednesday starting line-up (4-4-2). Kirkland, Buxton, Taylor (c), Gardner, Mattock, Antonio, Boateng (Razak 9), Semedo, Lappin, Pecnik, Bothroyd.
Subs not used. Weaver (gk), Lee, Johnson, Rodri, Beevers, McCabe.
Goal. Bothroyd 70.
Booked. Razak.

Attendance. 36,099.
Referee. Martin Atkinson.
Man of the Match. Paddy Kenny (Leeds United), rated at 7.9 over 90 minutes. The goalkeeper returned after missing the last match through injury, and he put in a great performance between the sticks, he kept Leeds in the game, and also created the goal for Luciano Becchio.

Kenny was not dropped.

Goalkeeper rested after picking up a slight knock.

Leeds United manager Phil Walker has this morning confirmed Paddy Kenny was rested and not dropped, from the win over Charlton Athletic yesterday.

Kenny, 34, arrived at Elland Road in the summer from Queens Park Rangers for £400,000, under former Whites boss Neil Warnock, and had only missed two games before kick-off yesterday afternoon, with both those fixtures coming in the Capital One Cup.

Rumours of a falling out between him and his manager quickly spread yesterday, when the team sheet was handed in and Kenny was not even in the squad, but manager Phil Walker has moved quickly to set the record straight, on why Kenny was not in the squad, and everything is looking good between the pair.

Phil Walker on why Kenny was not selected. "These media reports of me and Paddy (Kenny) falling out are ludicrous, the reason why Paddy was not in the squad yesterday for the Charlton game, is that he picked up a knock to his right ankle in training on Friday, and as a precautionary measure I left him out the squad, so no we have not fallen out and he is still my number one goalkeeper, and one of the best in this league."

Ross McCormack fired home two goals this afternoon for Leeds United, as they ran out 3-1 winners over Charlton Athletic at Elland Road, to keep the clubs great start to the season going.

The home side made a total of nine changes from the midweek draw at Burnley, with Jason Pearce and Ross McCormack the only players remaining from that game. The talk before the match was about first-choice goalkeeper Paddy Kenny, who was not even in the squad, with Jamie Ashdown starting in goal, and youngster Alex Cairns on the bench, who was handed the squad number 13 before kick-off.

Charlton Athletic came north with their form improving, having beaten Birmingham City and Hull City in their last two games, and Chris Powell made two changes from the win over Hull City, with Matt Taylor and Jordan Cook making way, Michael Morrison and Lawrie Wilson replacing them in the starting line-up.

It was Leeds United who had the first chance of the match, and scored from it, with Davide Somma finding the net with his strike. The goal came after patient play from the home side, Somma picked the ball up in the Charlton half, he pulled the ball back to Ramon Nunez, and the Honduran midfielder chipped the ball over the defence, which allowed Somma to run onto the ball, before smashing his shot past Ben Hamer. That strike from number 24 Somma, was his first since February 2011 after being out with a serious knee injury, and that strike brought a massive smile to the face of the South African.

The home side doubled the lead just five minutes later, and top scorer Ross McCormack made it 2-0, via a free kick. The free kick was won on the edge of the area by Davide Somma, who had opened the scoring, up stepped McCormack to take the free kick, the Scottish striker then curled the free kick over the five man wall, and into the roof of the net.

The visitors had a good chance on 31 minutes, but Danny Hollands saw his volley flash just wide. The chance came after Leeds failed to deliver with a cross from Rhoys Wiggins, the cross was only half cleared by a header from Tom Lees, and the ball came to midfielder Hollands, who caught it on the volley and sent the shot across goal, and it went just wide, with Jamie Ashdown rooted to the spot.

The next chance in a dull encounter came on 68 minutes, but Charlton took their chance in front of goal, with centre-back Michael Morrison heading home. The goal was created from a free kick out on the right, midfielder Johnnie Jackson whipped a cross into the far post, which Jamie Ashdown came and failed to catch, and that allowed Morrison to head home into an empty goal, to give the visiting fans something to cheer about.

The Whites did not sit back and found the back of the net just three minutes after that goal from Charlton, and it was Ross McCormack with the goal, his 10th goal of the season so far. The assist for the goal came from Rodolph Austin, he picked the ball up from a pass from Luke Varney, and hit a long ball over the top for McCormack to latch onto, and the Scottish striker fired home between the near post and goalkeeper Ben Hamer, to make it 3-1 to the home side.

Full time here at Elland Road and Leeds maintain their good start to the season, and have extended their unbeaten run to six games, but do face Sheffield Wednesday next in the league, and they are doing well at the minute. Charlton Athletic meanwhile are under pressure, after two wins in a row lifted them out of the relegation zone, they drop back into it after this defeat today.

Leeds United manager, Phil Walker, on another win. "A good win out there this afternoon for us, especially with me making nine changes in total from the draw with Burnley in midweek, but we need to take every game as it comes, and make sure we pick up our good form in our next game after the international break."

Charlton Athletic manager, Chris Powell, on the loss. "Another defeat for us today after two wins in a row, but this is a very tough division, and we are still adjusting to life in this division, but we need to improve and fast, if we are going to stay up this season."

Leeds United starting line-up (4-4-2). Ashdown, Thompson, Lees, Pearce (c), White, Byram (Norris 82), Austin, Nunez (Peltier 77), Varney, McCormack, Somma (Becchio 82).
Subs not used. Cairns (gk), Pugh, Kisnorbo, Poleon.
Goals. Somma 17, McCormack 22, 71.
Booked. Pearce, Nunez, Austin, Thompson.

Charlton Athletic starting line-up (4-4-2). Hamer, Solly, Morrison, Dervite, Wiggins, Wilson, Greening (Stephens 66), Hollans, Jackson (c), Fuller, Kermorgant.
Subs not used. Button (gk), Kerkar, Evina, Cook, Hughes, Cousins.
Goal. Morrison 68.
Booked. Hollands, Fuller.

Attendance. 24,015.
Referee. Mike Jones.
Man of the Match. Ross McCormack (Leeds United), rated at 8.8 over 90 minutes. The top scorer for Leeds United this season helped his team to victory this afternoon, he found the net twice and helped to cause problems all afternoon, for the Charlton Athletic defence.

Four goal thriller at Turf Moor.

http://i46.tinypic.com/elp9e.jpg

Burnley and Leeds United played out a four goal thriller tonight at Turf Moor, with both teams sharing the points as it finished 2-2.

Burnley made just the one change to the side that defeated Cardiff City on Saturday, midfielder Chris McCann was rested, with Dean Marney replacing him in the midfield.

Leeds United made just the two changes to the side that won at Bristol City, out went Luke Varney and Rodolph Austin, with Adam Drury and Michael Brown replacing them.

It was the home side who had the first chance of the game, and they scored from it, with Mark Clattenburg awarding a highly disputed penalty. The penalty was awarded after Clattenburg decided Paul Green had fouled Danny Lafferty in the box, although replays showed the penalty should not have been awarded, and the ball was given to Ross Wallace, who smashed home the penalty to make it 1-0.

The home side only had the lead for just four minutes, as neat football from the visitors allowed Ross McCormack to equalise. The ball was won in The Whites half by centre-back Jason Pearce, he slipped a lovely pass into midfielder David Norris, who played a quick one-two with Michael Brown, before releasing Ross McCormack in on goal, and McCormack fired home to equalise for the visitors.

The visitors had another great chance just 11 minutes later, with El-Hadji Diouf forcing Lee Grant into a good save. The Senegalese attacked was found by a Michael Brown pass, before cutting inside and hitting a curling shot towards goal, and Grant did well to get a hand to it and tip the shot wide.

Burnley had the ball in the back of the net yet again just before half time, but Charlie Austin saw his strike disallowed for offside. The striker was found by a pass from ex-Leeds United defender Paul Connolly, and Austin took a good first touch, before firing home past Paddy Kenny, but the offside flag was up, and on looking at the replay Austin will be unhappy, as he was being played onside by Lee Peltier.

The Clarets striker Charlie Austin did have the ball in the back of the net again on 46 minutes, and this time the goal stood. The goal came straight from the restart after half time, Sam Vokes picked the ball up from a Dean Marney pass, before slotting the ball into the run of Austin, and he slotted home past the oncoming Paddy Kenny.

The Clarets lead only lasted 11 minutes, with Ross McCormack equalising for the second time on the night for the visitors. The goal was created by a cross from El-Hadji Diouf, after he received a pass from Paul Green, the cross was met by a powerful header by McCormack, who was unmarked at the near post.

Leeds United fans saw their team reduced to ten men on 87 minutes, after Michael Brown picked up his second yellow card of the match. The Whites number eight had been booked in the first half, but then saw himself pick up a second yellow card, after catching Dean Marney with a late tackle, to earn himself an early bath.

Full time and what an entertaining game it has been here at Turf Moor, twice Burnley took the lead tonight, but twice Leeds United equalised through striker Ross McCormack. Burnley tonight remain in eighth after this draw, while Leeds United remain in third place.

Burnley manager, Eddie Howe, on the draw. "Well it is disappointing that we have drawn tonight, as we had taken the lead twice, but twice they equalised through Ross McCormack."

Leeds United manager, Phil Walker, on the draw. "I believe this is a good point for us tonight, twice we went behind, and twice we equalised, so the lads showed they were not accepting defeat, and am delighted with that. It was disappointing to have had Michael (Brown) sent off, we have to sort our discipline out and soon."

Burnley starting line-up (4-4-2). Grant, Connolly (Stanislas 68), Edgar, Shackell (c) (Duff (c) 57), Lafferty, Trippier, Marney, Bartley, Wallace, Vokes, Austin.
Subs not used. Jensen (gk), Stewart, Paterson, Mills, Treacy.
Goals. Wallace pen 9, Austin 46.
Booked. Wallace.

Leeds United starting line-up (4-4-2). Kenny, Green (Lees 74), Peltier (c), Pearce, Drury, Diouf, Brown, Norris (Nunez 57), Pugh, McCormack, Becchio (Somma 67).
Subs not used. Ashdown (gk), Kisnorbo, Austin, Varney.
Goals. McCormack 13, 57.
Booked. Brown, Diouf, Nunez.
Sent off. Brown.

Attendance. 19,056.
Referee. Mark Clattenburg.
Man of the Match. Ross McCormack (Leeds United), rated at 8.8 over 90 minutes. The Whites striker found the net twice tonight, and if it was not for his two goals, Leeds would have lost tonight.
