Boreham Wood held to a draw by Hayes & Yeading United
In front of another low crowd, which has been the trend since the dismal performance last season, Hayes & Yeading United put on a good performance against Boreham Wood and managed to hold the game to a draw, with Boreham Wood having more of the possession and controlling much of the game it was a difficult game for United but they managed to finish 1-1.
Hayes & Yeading started the better team and had decent possession for much of the first half, which paid off when Hammond made the breakthrough on the stroke of half time after a nice lay off from Oyenuga on the edge of the area, Hammond took the ball down sweetly and booted it low into the bottom right corner.
Boreham Wood came out into the second half with much more force and proving a point that they are up for promotion contention this season, with numerous efforts in very quick succession, Martins side had to constantly defend throughout the second half, but unfortunately as was against Billericay Town his defence fell apart on a single set-piece which resulted in Thalassitis being able to turn on the ball inside the 6 yard box and smash it home for his team.
They nearly made it 2-1 when Morgan headed the ball off the corner only to see it graze the crossbar as it went over. The pundits had this game down as a draw and it ended as such, both sides supporters should go home happy after this match with both teams hovering in the top 10.
Hayes & Yeading United boss Edward Martin said: "It was a tough game today, it was really good to get our noses infront just before half-time, but unfortunately again a defensive error at a set-piece cost us, definitely something we will be working on this week."
Boreham Wood boss Ian Allinson had this to say: "We were unlucky to only come away with 1 point today, I thought we played well enough especially in the second half to deserve all 3 points, but we will keep pushing as its only early days yet."
Haye & Yeading United lineup (4-4-2). Hall, Cox (c), Bygrave, Kalama (Legg 63), Wishart, Pele, Williams (Gregson), N'Diaye, Webb, Hammond, Oyenuga (Cowell 76)
Subs not used. Stow, McLean

Billericay Town lineup (4-5-1). Russell, Garrard, Shimmin (Fortune 75), Reynolds, Nunn, Morgan, Isaac, Noto (c), Johnson (Pires 60), Mingoia, Thalassitis

Man of the Match. Boreham Wood player Greg Morgan was todays Man of the Match with a match rating of 8.0, Morgan had a solid game in the midfield which he nearly topped off with a sweet header only to see it hit the crossbar.

The Missioners were unable to capitalize on their first goal against Billericay Town
Hayes & Yeading United made only two changes to the side that beat Weston-super-Mare with Lewis Webb replacing Gregson in the starting lineup as well as Beasant being replaced by Hall between the sticks due to injury.
The game was very short on chances and action with most of the game being played in the middle of the park, the first opportunity and goal came in the 13th minute where Brendon Cowell turned on the ball and struck the ball into the bottom right of the goal from the edge of the box. Then twenty minutes later Webb had an opportunity on goal from outside the box that went well over the cross bar.
He then began to regret that wasted chance as one minute later some poor defending from a corner allowed Osborn to smash a half volley into the back of the net from the edge of the 6 yard box. In the second half there were only two shots in what was quite a dull and slow match with possession just bouncing between the two sides in the middle of the pitch.
After his teams solid performance against the Seagulls last week Martin was sure to hope his side could put on a much better performance here today where they were favourites to win, but unfortunately it did not happen and the game ended honours even at 1-1.
Hayes & Yeading United boss Edward Martin said: "Today was a really slow match, nothing really seemed to happen. We tried to mix it up a bit in the second half but both teams just seemed to cancel eachother out, we really need to improve for our next game."
Billericay Town boss Craig Edwards had this to say: "We played alright today, we knew we were not the favourites going into this match but we defended well after conceding the first goal and then managed to cancel the game out in the second half."
Haye & Yeading United lineup (4-4-2). Hall, Legg, Bygrave (Pele 70), Kalama, Wishart, Cox (c), Williams, N'Diaye, Webb, Cowell, Oyenuga (Hammond 70)
Subs not used. Stow, Gregson, McLean
Goals. Cowell
Bookings. Kalama, Oyenuga
Billericay Town lineup (4-5-1). Thomas, Oates, Olima (Swaine 70(c)), Bangura (Thelwell 45), Worrell, Rogers, O'Leary, I'Anson, Poole, Lechmere (Taylor 65), Osborn
Subs not used. Bennett (GK), Collis
Goals. Osborn
Bookings. Bangura, Rogers
Attendance. 75
Referee. Chris Powell
Man of the Match. Billericay Town player Glenn Poole was awarded the man of the match today with a match rating of 7.4, in a rather dull match he was one of the only players to stand out in the midfield connecting defense to forwards quite well.

James Beasant met with club doctors after our win against Weston-super-Mare after picking up a knock on his ankle, after a solid first half it was very disappointing for him to have to come off the pitch in the first game of the season. Unfortunately scans have revealed that he has twisted his ankle and is expected to be out for between 6 and 7 weeks, which means he is going to be missing some key games at the start of this season.
Martin has revealed he is hoping to bring in a new keeper for cover for the next 3 months on loan before the window closes in 10 days, for the time being Hall will continue to start in the starting eleven which will be a great experience for him. In some other news Martin has also said that he is currently in discussions with two other players in regards to bringing them into the club to fill up our team-sheet some more, we will keep you updated.

Hayes & Yeading United secured victory on the opening day of the Blue Square South with a 1-0 victory over Weston-super-Mare at the Woodspring Stadium
In Edward Martins competitive debut as Hayes & Yeading United the Missioners came into the match after a terrible preseason, Martin made no changes to the side he fielded in the last game of the preseason however was able to get a full subs bench due to the signings he has made, fans that travelled were also happy to see Pele back on the bench although he did not feature in todays match.
Weston-super-Mare came into this match having lost only one of their preseason matches which included a victory over the Chelsea Reserves which meant they were coming into the game confident they would be able to perform well on the opening day of the season.
The Missioners went into the game with a much different attitude to what was used in he preseason, with Martin clearly getting them fired up and ready to go as the first chance came six minutes into the match when Oyenuga shot just wide of the post. The next opporunity also fell to the Missioners with a drive from twenty yards, twenty six minutes in which was well saved by keeper Irish but he could do nothing about the next effort a minute later which was started by a brilliant through ball from Legg from the right hand side which Oyenuga took sweetly onto his chest and volleyed into the back of the net making it 1-0 to Hayes & Yeading United.
The Seagulls finally entered the game with their first effort thirty six minutes into the first half with a shot that went well wide, and then a minute later a great drive from the edge of the area forced a great save by Beasant, unfortunately after this effort Beasant picked up a knock and was substituted at half time with Hall coming in.
In the second half Hayes & Yeading had to withstand 20 minutes of strong pressure from The Seagulls, which brought a good save from Hall who played brilliantly through the second half. A lot of the second half was played in the middle of the park with The Missioners having a nervy last five minutes with a scrappy clearance from the six yard box which ended what was The Seagulls strongest attack of the match.
Weston-super-Mare boss Craig Laird had this to say: "It was a really tough game for us today, we were expecting to do a lot better after the preseason we have but the boys did not turn up for the first half which resulted in our undoing, we will look to bounce back in the next match.
Hayes & Yeading United boss Edward Martin said: "We played brilliantly today, I was really happy with the way we performed in the first half, and then our defending in the second half to hold off a strong attack was very good, hopefully we can continue like this." We also asked what it was like as a debut match and he said: "It was a great first competitive game for me, but I look ahead for the club as that is the most important thing, but yes it was nice to start with a win."
Weston-super-Mare lineup (4-4-2). Irish, Jones, Laird, Villis, Slocombe, Stearn (Grubb 67), Kirk (c), Trowbridge (Kington 88), Monks, Ingram, McLaggon (Pepperell 45)
Subs not used. Couplard (GK), Price
Bookings. Stearn
Haye & Yeading United lineup (4-4-2). Beasant (Hall 45), Legg, Bygrave, Kalama, Wishard, Cox (c), Williams (Webb 66), N'Diaye, Gregson, Cowell, Oyenuga
Subs not used. Pele, McLean, Hammond
Goals. Oyenuga
Bookings. Wishard, Cox, Williams
Attendance. 315
Referee. C. Knowles
Man of the Match. Hayes & Yeading United player Bygrave was the man of the match after a solid defensive performance with a performance rating of 8.3 over the full 90 minutes. With the team playing a lot of their game out of defence Bygrave put in a great performance.

After a very poor pre-season for The Missioners, Martin has been hard at work trying to bring some new faces to the club with so far successfully only landing three new faces with reports saying he is hoping at least three more to join before the end of the window in just under two weeks. The new signings are:
- Luke Gregson, 30, Luke is a centre midfielder with plenty of experience in non-league football, Martin will be hoping Gregson will be able to use his previously proven determination and drive to help his squad, he has been brought in on a season long loan.
- Craig Hammond, 25, Craig is a striker who is on a season long loan from Cambridge City, he has shown some brilliant finishing in his 2 years at Cambridge and we hope to see some of his flair this year.
- Lewis Webb, 21, Lewis is the youngest of Martins signings so far, he is able to play as a right fullback or a centre midfielder which provides good flexibility, it is likely Lewis will be used in a backup role in the squad especially at times like the present where the team is injury hit.
Tomorrow is Hayes & Yeading United first showing in the Blue Square South against Weston-super-Mare away, who have come into this season off the back of a successful preseason conceding only 3 goals in 5 matches, Martin will be hoping now that he has had more time to work with the squad that they will be able to put their poor pre-season behind them and get running in the new season. We will bring you the full report from that match tomorrow night, we hope you are looking forward to this season as much as we are in what is likely to be one of the most exciting seasons for the division.Posted: 12:36, 17th August, 2013.

Hayes & Yeading United have completed their pre-season finishing with only one victory which concluded today against Godalming Town away.
Their pre-season started against Blackburn at home where they lost 0-3, after this was their only win of the pre-season which came against Ashford Town away which was a 0-2 victory. They then played at home against Brentford and Barnsley which again resulted in results of 1-3 and 0-4 respectively. It was at this point that the board considered a change in management which resulted in Tony O'Driscoll returning to his post of Director of Football with Edward Martin signing on the 4th of August he had absolutely no time to prepare as the final preseason match against Godalming Town was due to be played 5 hours after him signing the dotted line.
Going into the match he was presented with a horribly depleted team due to injury missing 4 key players which resulted in him only being able to have 4 players available on the subs bench, it did not get much better as 20 minutes into the game a soft penalty was conceded which gifted Godalming a 1-0 lead, for the rest of the first half Martins team was thoroughly out-played having very little possession and few chances, their first chance came in the 42nd minute when Brendon Cowell struck the wood work. In the second half the team came out all guns blazing and scored a goal within a minute which was a find header between three defenders by Cowell to make the game 1-1, throughout the second half it was very end to end football however unfortunately for Martin yet another injury hampered his efforts as Josh Ekim took a knock, after this the team had a lapse ten minutes and conceded a second time after a cracking goal from Jon Palmer which helped Gogalming to see the game out and ruin Edward Martins' debut game.
Martin now has a five player long injury list which are, Cadmore, Brathwaite, Pele, Bentley and Ekim which leaves him very short at the back and the middle of the park, there have been reports that he is currently on the hunt for atleast 5 players with discussions reportedly having already started though nothing announced by the man or the club as yet. All signs point to this being a very difficult season to the club at the moment, with their first game away at Weston-super-Mare on the 18th of August.
We were unable to speak to Martin after the game however he did apologize to the press and said that he had to get straight to work in improving the squad and would speak to the press further in the coming weeks.

DEREK Goodall today announced his new manager at Hayes & Yeading United, Edward Martin, 25, who has been offered a one year contract worth £650/week. Last week it was announced that Tony O'Driscoll was returning to his role of Director of Football at the club as the board looked to bring in a new face. Edward Martin is completely new to management having only previously played Sunday football in the Wiltshire county, but Derek Goodall was very happy with his new manager and had the following to say.
We also managed to catch up with Edward Martin himself for a quick chat and he said.
It certainly is going to be a tough season this year for the new man, if the club have any hope of bouncing back they desperately need to bring in some new players to strengthen the back four, but with a reportedly small transfer budget available he will hope clubs are willing to loan players for low fees.

Today we announce that Tony O'Driscoll has decided to return to his original position of Director of Football as the board look ahead to next season to hire a new leading man. After the departure of Nas Bashir earlier in the year Tony moved into the dugout until the end of the season where we would unfortunately end up being relegated with a poor run of matches, Tony had this message for the fans:
Looking ahead to the 2012-13 season we are currently in the hunt for a new manager, we have had early discussions with some great candidates and we hope to have more news in the coming days.
