Thanks Johno, St Mirren are putting up one hell of a fight though. Despite me beating them, twice.

Now with 2015 rounded off, we sit 4 points clear at the top of the table, booked a place in the Europa last 32 and remain in both domestic cup competitions. So it is going pretty well. My tactics are set and working pretty well, I rotate between two asymmetric 4-1-4-1's and a 4-4-2. Pretty similar to the instructions above.
I have a few ideas going into the transfer window. With Gary Mackay-Steven and Ciaran Clark joining I really have no need to pay £40k p/w for rotation players that I have no intention of signing. They could be gone despite impressive bit-part performances. A few youngsters will also go out on loan, and there has been interest in Virgil van Dijk from Arsenal in particular.

Yeah thankfully. However I did like getting some bogey results at the begining. It reflected real life atm. Thanks as always Dan.

September - November 2014 - Fixtures
So we had a great run of form that took us to 7 wins in a row in the league, conceding just once. This was abruptly ended by two former Celts, Barry Robson and Niall McGinn who secured a win for Aberdeen at Pitodrie. We progressed in both the League Cup and Scottish, and even put out Rangers.
The Champions League went pretty well so far. We have picked up an impressive 7 points in a tough group with a game to go, a game that decides if its to be the glory of the last 16 or not. Unfortunately that fixture will take place at Camp Nou. The defeat to Napoli at home put a real dent in our progression hopes. However I do see a good Europa League run coming.

Cheers man. Went 1-0 up, tried to hold the lead. They pushed up and I kept hitting them on the counter.

Offered him £5k/week, definitely worth it.
Just use the megapack on here, also they have a pack with the youth players somewhere.

Pretty much the Celtic set-up with Rene Meulensteen and Joe Corrigan, going to add more at the end of the season.
Aye his passing should be a bit higher that 10, however his pass rate and average rating has been pretty good so far.

Thanks mate. Worked out pretty well that we lost a few, making it feel more like reality arm. With the inconsistency the first few weeks.
Aye I would be very happy with 3rd, but Shakhtar are no mugs.

I think my target is 3rd spot, the Shakhtar games will be vital in getting anything out it. I think I'll keep it the way it is but drop another CM back to the DM spot and go on the counter.
I think it's down to the whole tactical familiarity thing. Results have started to go a bit more as expected, as it has become fluid. But I'll save that for the next update.

The thing that annoyed me with this years was the squad starting with absolutely no tactical familiarisation, so they are professional footballers yet don't know what a 4-4-2 is?

Long Term Goals
- Win 10 in-a-row
- Compete in the Champions League last 16 regularly
- Create a predominately Scottish/Irish squad
- Have a player win the Golden Boot
Short Term Goals
- Tie down my key players on long term deals
- Sign Super John Guidetti on a permeant deal
-
Qualify for the Champions League Groups.June - August 2014
Mixed start to the season, done well to qualify for the Champions League, but inconsistent league collected 9 points in 5 games – a single point behind St Johnstone and ICT who have 10.
As always I’ve disabled transfer budgets in the first window so nothing happened in that front. However I did manage to ring in Rene Muelensteen and Joe Corrigan to improve the coaching set up.

This will give me time to really evaluate the squad and have a good hunt for players before starting my save. Hopefully something has been done with the horrendous tactics screen too!

Back to the point, started a game with Celtic. Not sure if I will post any of my progress until the full game comes out, depending how bad the bugs are I guess. A quick glance over the squad and it looks pretty good, too many loans for my liking, but I'm here to build my empire. I have a great core to work with; Craig Gordon, Mikel Lustig, Virgil van Djik, Scott Brown, Kris Commons, John Guidetti (if I can keep him).
Immediate targets: Tie down Brown and Commons on new deals to see them finish their careers at the club. Set up both 4-4-2 and 4-3-3 formations that suit the players I have at my disposal. Transfer budgets are disabled in the first window, might however have a look at the free market.

I never claimed to be an encyclopaedia, as the opening post said "(or I may be wrong completely)". I wasn't stating it to be correct anyway, nor writing an essay on it, just looking for others opinion on it.
The managers that I mentioned were just ones that stuck in my head.

My mistake, I had always thought that he was a CB for some reason.

As we're going through a period of 'transition' it will be a challenge to compete in the CL groups. League should be a walk in the park (unlike real life). Lots of deadwood so room for a squad revolution. Wont start until the end of the first season though as I tend to take a few restarts to get a save going that I like.
2. Aston Villa
Really like the look of their squad this year. Still go the youthful element to it but added (not the greatest) experienced players. I feel the squad had room for a good long term transfer strategy. Europa League in 4/5 seasons?
3. Celtic - Post January Update (depending on transfers)
If we actually manage to bring in some quality players that improve the squad then I'll start a new game if not I'll continue with the original.
#204219 Relationship Managerial Success and Position as Player
seannn
Is there a relationship between how successful a manager is and what position he played?
Having thought about the most successful managers I can think of are either defenders or more defensive midfielders. Alex Ferguson, Jock Stein, Fabio Capello, Louis Van Gaal, Bob Paisley, Walter Smith, even David Moyes (pre-Utd fall guy). They all had one thing in common, none of them ever score more than 50 career goals.
On the other side of this we have the likes of Ole Gunnar Solsskjaer, Ally McCoist, John Barnes. All prolific goal scorers. Obviously there are some exceptions (or I may be wrong completely).
Could it be that more defensive players see more of the match and therefor learn more about the game?
