Sounds like Gattuso's been sacked as Palermo coach, they lost 2-1 in Bari earlier this evening, their second loss in a row and third in six overall.

Aye they were dreadful, Irvine Meadow gave us a tougher test a couple of seasons ago than that mob did.

My away days are more or less behind me, we've got friends through in Glasgow so will probably head through for the weekend in March and go to the game then but I won't be able to make it on the 7th.

Went to my first game of the season the other day, while it was nice to see us win the overall standard of play was pretty dire. This Hibs side is down there with the worst I've ever seen and St Mirren were even worse...

Poor Sassuolo getting thrashed 6-0 at home, it's not often you see the small sides in Serie A hammered like this, normally their defensive tactics are spot on and the big sides really have to work to break them down.

Edit: 7-0 now, Di Francesco's probably getting sacked in the morning...

Napoli-Dortmund I'd go for, that match has potential to be excellent. Can see Milan-Celtic being something like 1-0 for Milan.

Napoli - Dortmund is the way to go, Milan will be dreadful tonight, look at the state of their starting 11, that midfield 3 especially:

Abbiati; Zaccardo, Zapata, Mexes, Constant; Nocerino, De Jong, Muntari; Birsa; Balotelli, Matri

Aye, co-ownership is a little confusing at first but the essentials are:

A player must have 2 years or more left on his current contract to be eligable.

You buy 50% and agree where he plays, either one of his owners or on loan to a 3rd team.

After a year you get the chance to negotiate the deal, so you can buy the other 50%, sell your stake or renew the deal for another season. If you can't agree what to do by the co-ownership deadline it goes to a blind auction.

Co-ownership only lasts for two seasons, so the end of this season is the same as the first except you can't renew the deal.

The pressure in the Italian league system is huge and more often than not managers don't see out the season, as a result every game is crucial and 9 times out of 10 they will use older more reliable players than loan kids. Through co-ownership the Serie B/C side owns a share of the player so it's in their interest to play him, get his value up and make a profit when/if they sell their share.

Anyway, back on topic, shame about the defeat in Europe, still 5 games left in the group so it's not a disaster. I'm not sure if your database will be the same but keep an eye on Brocchi, his stats and performances tend to drop off after Christmas and he becomes a bit of a liability and card magnet.

Marca are claiming Ozil has rejected Arsenal, for whatever their word is worth.

I think their jumping the gun a bit, there's a big gap between the wages etc Arsenal are offering and what Ozil's after but I doubt the deal would have collapsed so quickly.

Not an improvement on what Arsenal have at the moment, Palermo and Fiorentina have decided against him in subsequent summers and if I'm honest he's not even the best keeper in Palermo's squad at the moment.

That's a new one, they've been linked to Zdravko Kuzmanovic as well. Personally I'd love to see him in England as he's about the slowest player in Inter's squad, some achievement when they have the likes of Samuel and Chivu...

You would think El Shaarawy would get a fucking haircut for meeting the Pope.

Shame Gattuso didn't do it when he had the chance...

In other news Innocent Emeghara has moved to Livorno, seems another season battling against the drop in Serie A was more appealing than a move to Celtic.

Just ordered one of these for the wife as our wedding anniversary is coming up next week.

Sorry on my phone so the image isn't great, I take it it's a framed picture sort of thing? It's our first (paper) wedding anniversary next year so something like that kinda suits it.

Oh brilliant, I'll watch my beloved Gladbach getting their arse kicked.

Your defender is a total moron, two handballs and two penalties in as many minutes

I strongly suspect we'll be in and around when he moves on from Catania. Apparently (if I understood the dodgy translation correctly) we tried to sign him from Vélez and loan him to Boca for a year.

It'll be interesting to see how he gets on, he's already seen as a realistic alternative to Zabaleta in the national side (his defensive game is meant to be better) so he could end up replacing him at club level as well.

The Insigne link/comments is from the start of the summer I think. Before they signed Giaccherini and Altidore.

Tim Matavz? from PSV? He's meant to be good isn't he?

I dunno, I'd be lying if I said I can remember seeing him over a full match but from his stats and the reaction of varous Lazio sites he's not what we're looking for. 22 goals over two seasons in a league where Graziano Pelle got 27 or so isn't really encouraging.

Both him and Matri have been linked with Lazio at various times this summer, with the latter probably off to Napoli I'd be more than happy with Quags. We need an alternative to Klose and knowing Lotito we'll end up with Matavz or Marica...

Sunderland fans are going to love Quagliarella if he goes there. The lad only scores beautiful goals.

Hasn't he refused all offers from outside of Italy?

First brand new Swiss Ramble piece in ages, given their lack of activity and the fact he supports them Arsenal are an obvious choice.

Or Chelsea. Or Napoli.

Last night he was heading to Napoli, this morning they had signed Matri for €12m and this afternoon their signing some Uruguyan laddie. I hate this time of year

Would have to be the first one I think. Aren't third party ownerships against the rules in the Prem?

They are, that's why they'd have either demanded a fortune to give up their share or came to a compromise within the rules like them getting a share of a sell on fee. That exact situation happened when Lazio were trying to sign Felipe Anderson, the deal was agreed with Santos long ago but an English company that owned 30% of his rights kept demanding different things and offering the player to other clubs in the meantime. Only when he said he was going to report them to FIFA did they play ball.

Edinburgh Derby tomorrow, in all my years supporting Hibs I can't remember a time both sides went into the game in such wretched shape, safe to say I've stuck a few quid on a 0-0 draw.

I doubt he'd have signed a deal like that if they hadn't had such an ambitious summer this year, or if he did it would have been a Lavezzi/Cavani style deal where he was probably going to be sold but with the release clause he leaves on Napoli's terms.

Probably why he ended up in the Ukraine, the 3rd party companies get to keep their stake and 2/3 years down the line he'll hopefully move for 35 or 40m. As Cas said he didn't really want to go there, he was in tears after his last game for Atletico Mineiro and I think he had his heart set on a move to Porto.

For the 3rd parties to give up their stake in a player moving to Europe for the first time they'd have either demanded a fortune (which Arsenal wouldn't have paid) or wanted a huge slice of the fee Arsenal got if (more like when) they sold him on. Can't see Wengers economist brain liking that one bit either.

Honda is going to join Milan, there really isn't any doubt about it. The only question has been whether he'd be joining in the summer or once his contract is out.

It's not the fee that is holding the summer deal up, it's that CSKA simply don't want to let him go now that the Russian season has started.

Milan's budget is more or less dependent on them getting into the Champions League groups, as things stand they probably won't be bringing anybody else in but once their through the qualifiers I wouldn't be surprised to see them bring in another one or two late in the window.
