I don't believe Man Utd fans watch him more than others, most fans watch all the games on TV especially the bigger ones. You're the only one defending him here really yet have probably seen him a handful of times more than the majority of us tbf.

Which debut season does he compare favourably to Henry? his first year at Arsenal he scored 17 in 31 so it cant be that one

Fucked if I can remember word for word a stats thing floating around 2 years ago. When he was 20 maybe? Possibly comparing it to his time at Juve.

He'd be great for someone like Newcastle or Swansea, midtable striker getting around 12-15 goals a season.

Any higher than that and you'd want better imo.

That being said, Sturridge took everybody by surprise when he went to Liverpool - so I suppose we can't really write Welbeck off until he has a full season of being first choice centre forward. At the minute though, he's bang average, and should only be starting for England because of his work rate, nothing else.

I watch basically every single United game I'm available for, I'd estimate at least 45 times a season.

He'd score bucket loads at Everton, Southampton or Tottenham imo all of whom he'd start for. Wouldn't mind betting he would have outscored Lukaku last season at Everton.

Henry was a winger then though wasn't he?

Just looked online out of interest at David N'Gog's stats when he was with us, they're pretty much on par with Welbeck's

Fair enough, though its strange how every time we watch him its when he's having one of those Bambi on ice games

I don't think he has whole games like it but he definitely has moments in games where he fucks up something simple which clouds peoples mind.

I remember a game for England a year back (possibly against Scotland) where he started off doing that, the crowd got on his back and then he played really well involved in a goal with a great bit of play down the left and then scored himself, before earning himself the Man of the Match award. Yet people tend to remember him looking ungainly and forget the good that he then went on to do.

He also was poor defensively when they scored their second iirc.

I don't get why people seem to only use goals as a metric for measuring the success of a striker. Football has moved on from that. It totally ignores what a players function, role and responsibilities in a team are.

Sturridge moved on and got his chance, he went on to become the player Chelsea and Man City wanted him to be.

I think the same can apply with Welbeck, if he moves on. If can can move to another team and take a fresh chance it could work wonders for him. But at the moment I think he's content with being thrown out wide and tracking up and down the pitch. He needs to believe in his ability, move on from United, and play up front consistently. At the moment though, he's good, just not quite good enough.

He's not really. Hence wanting to leave under Moyes. We'll see what happens with van Gaal.

Well you know, Im all for tracking back, hard work and all that. It's great. But don't know, for me the main job of a striker is to, you know, score goals?

Who needs the media to undermine the national team when you've got rival fans doing just that?

I doubt Welbeck posts on here, its unlikely its going to affect him whatever we say.

He might. I get the impression that lots of footballers play FM. - It's a weird though that a few of them might have downloaded facepacks or logos from here, and possibly even of signed up....

Carroll - if you were offered now the mutually exclusive option of

A - Sturridge scores 25 goals next season (and Suarez is sold)
OR
B - Suarez scores 15 goals next season (and Sturridge is sold)

Which option would you choose?

I'm not Carroll but am a Liverpool fan. That is a very tough one, but I would take the Suarez 15 goals, naturally I'm assuming he would be involved in setting up at least 10 goals during the season to make up for the 10 Sturridge would have scored. Suarez assisted 12 last season and Sturridge only 7. 5 the difference there but you get my drift, Suarez is the more dangerous of the two.

Sturridge's downfall has always been his support/link play. He's a selfish player and will shoot 9/10 times before playing in a pass to someone in a better position. Suarez has a better overall game and offers more to a team, which is reflective by the way he plays and the sort of assist stats he gets. Losing Suarez would have a bigger influence on Liverpool than that of selling Sturridge.

A win would be excellent but I'd take a draw as long as it was coupled with a draw/win against Uruguay.

5-0 England imo

After seeing what the Dutch did with pace to the Spanish I can't wait for the game.

If I was Hodgson I'd start Sturridge and Sterling to use their pace.

I think Hodgson is planning to go with Henderson and Welbeck vs. Italy but will bring in Wilshere and Sterling vs. Uruguay.

I don't see why Welbeck vs Sterling is particularly a selection issue? Surely they play different positions? Unless AOC is fit enough to play?

Aye Sterling usually plays in the centre or the right, Welbeck on the left.

Unless Roy is thinking of playing Rooney on the left again?

It looks like Hodgson will play Lallana on the right and Rooney through the middle so it only leaves that left wing spot up for grabs.

Fair enough, I wouldn't play Lallana myself but I guess its not a particularly surprising decision.
