I wouldn't rule out Pellegrini either, didn't we want him as assistant with a view to eventually taking over when he was at Villareal?

The fact that Everton beat us is a stupid point. Shall we approach Chris Hughton too? Rafa maybe?

This is the Manchester United job. Not a Man City team new to Europe, or a Chelsea team with little to no expectations in Europe that season.

So that Man City team were new to Europe but had a very experienced manager, shouldn't have had problems.

That Chelsea team had all the expectations in Europe that season, they were heading out and that's why AVB got sacked.

Well what's your point really? Moyes will fail because he hasn't managed to win trophies, get Everton into the Champions League? Any manager who takes over this role is going to be under a great deal of pressure.

The only managers I can think of that are good enough and I'd say available Mourinho, Moyes, Heynckes and maybe Kloop.

Would've thought Heynckes for a few years first as a 'transitional' phase and then Moyes/Solskjaer/Giggs/Klopp replacing him so there's a little less pressure than there would be trying to start a new dynasty straight away

Again, haven't said he'll fail.

I think Ferguson's retirement has blown the proverbial shit out of any sense of what was supposed to happen.

Heard there was talk he was going to go to City.

He's supposed to be close to joining us. If Fergie had him marked as his successor, though, it would explain the timing.

Can't see it happening mind.

Surprised there's been no mention of Cholo Simeone actually. He's basically an Argentine version of David Moyes except he's not as negative and he has a good record in Europe.

I wouldn't want Moyes if I was a Man Utd fan either.

Go all out for Mourinho, he's the only one with an ego and talent big enough to replace the best of all time.

By the sounds of that they've already got it all sorted out which is kind of comforting I guess.

Could be wrong but doubt its gonna happen.

These plans have been in place for years, Heynckes became available very recently.

It's gonna be Moyes I think, if its announced in the next 2 days I can't see Mourinho taking it when es still got games that matter at Madrid.

Surely Moyes wouldn't need to 'resign' if his contract is up anyway?

It's going to be a Mark Hughes-Steve Bruce managerial tandem.

I think it's gonna be Moyes.

Funny to think Everton fans wanted him sacked earlier this season \o/

If the new guy is expected to resign in the next few days I can't see how I could be Klopp or Mourinho with both having cup finals coming up, Heynckes or Moyes technically don't need to resign either. Hmm.

Can Heynckes speak English?

First Thatcher dies, then Ferguson retires. Somewhere there's a Scouser with a lamp and one wish left.

'mon Solskjaer.

Sky Sports News seem convinced it's Moyes, for what that's worth.

Sky sources - a new line..... Sources close to the club believe Moyes respects the history and heritage of Man Utd. He believes in youth development, longevity and is cut from the same cloth as Sir Alex and Sir Matt Busby.

If Moyes goes, I'd expect Fellaini to go there in the Summer. Can't see him trying both. Then that means we will probably end up with Martinez as manager for fucks sake.

Moyes stinks of a budget option.
