MARINE HIRE MARSHALL
Non-league Marine from Crosby, Liverpool look to the future as they hire the young, inexperienced manager on a £240 per week deal lasting a year.

Marine, currently in the Evo-Stik Northern Premier League are Level 7 on the Football Pyramid, with just the two Conference leagues separating them and the EFL. Previous manager, Hessey, who kept Marine up in a miraculous revival last season, has departed due to family commitments. Coming in with an amateur playing background and no previous coaching or qualifications, Marshall may be a huge risk, especially since a group of more experienced managers showed interest in the job. However, with age on his side, Marshall is looking to bring Marine up to speed with modern day tactics and rocket them up the leagues and hopefully, one day, into the Premier League.

This is my first save on FM17, and I really wanted to test myself. Marine are a local team based in Liverpool, which is where I live, so I thought why not give it a go! They have a really nice stadium with a big seated stand, and the pitch is great and will hold up better than most in this league despite sharing it with lower league team AFC Liverpool. I'll try to post as often as I can during the Christmas holidays but updates may become scarce when I go back to uni in January. Anyway, thanks for reading and I hope you enjoy the story!

The board have given us some really achievable and realistic goals for this season, mid-table in the league will be our focal point, however a nice cup run in either FA competition would do us the world of good.

Some good new players coming in to add to the already solid squad, Louis Moss was especially pleasing (playing at Chester Nomads, despite being capped at international level). Josh Cook comes in, to be the number 1 goalkeeper, unless Hare produces some good performance, I will most likely alternate between the two for a few games. Chris Salt signed ,for a massive 1k, due to the lack of quality at CB, the fans and board weren't too happy I spent that much on him, hopefully it pays off. Meaney comes in with some experience at this level, previously playing for local rivals Skem, Nantwich and most recently Ramsbottom. Conor Smith comes in from local side Burscough, despite being just 19, he has some nice stats for this level of football. McQuade comes in as a backup CB.

A good sized squad, featuring some really good players, including Danny Mitchley, who is probably one of the best players at this level of football and Threlfall (former Liverpool player) who is good enough to play in the football league.

Pre-Season started well. Some comfortable wins against the U23's and Witton, as well as a really good result against Gateshead. A loss against Bangor was unexpected, however another win rounded of pre-season against Ruthin. New lads are settling in nicely, tactics are very slowly taking shape. Looking forward to the season!

Here it is then. The first half of the season.

August started brilliantly, 4-1 win against local rival Skem already a contender for highlight of the season. 3 more wins and a disappointing loss to Barwell at home followed.

Bideford followed on the 3rd September in the FA cup, proving to be an easy start to the cup campaign, a loss against league favourites Blyth followed, which was expected. Whitby at home ended in a 1-1 draw, which was followed by a fantastic comeback at Hednesford, a narrow win against Enfield kept the cup run alive. 2 losses to Stafford and Buxton ended the month on a low.

October saw a mixed bag of results for us. Knocked out of all three cup competitions in the same month was extremely disappointing, however only 1 loss out of 4 league games made it a more cheerful month as the bad weather rolls in.

November. What a start, 4-0 against Ashton United away from home, which was our most dominant performance to date. Unfortunately it was followed by a tough game against promotion hopefuls Nantwich where we narrowly lost 1-0 and a 2-1 loss to Stourbridge. The rest of the month was much more pleasing, unbeaten in 4 games and a 2-1 win against a really good Warrington side.

December WHATTTTTT? Seriously do not know what happened against Skem as they ripped us apart. 4-0

AHHH! Despite our last result, the first half of the season is actually a good half. We see ourselves in 4th position, way above our prediction. It has definitely helped not being in cup competitions, the schedule is crazy playing Tuesday - Saturday nearly every week. The table reads 8 defeats, which is a big disappointment for us, I feel we should be doing better in those games, however only three losses at home show how difficult it must be to come to us, we're just not quite as good on the road. Overall, I am overwhelmingly pleased, we look in good shape for the second half of the season.
