A very nice World Cup group for you I'd say, looks like you've had some great times already with Peru and good to see your wins now higher than loses and draws combined!

Cheers guys! Hoping that our great run continues.

2018

World Cup year!

The pre-tournament matches, then, and we started with a convincing win against Aruba. Secretly wished it was a lot more, but I can't be too fussy with a 4-0 win.

A disappointing last minute own goal cost us a win against Qatar, which was majorly disappointing.

DEZA

https://sortitoutsi.net/uploads/mirrored_images/iuWuGeFfIYXACgNmNzohlYhTKgJ2Krixh9ubFrWx.png

Unfortunately, our defensive frailties GIFTS were again on show as we let a team 75th in the world rankings beat us. Terrible, terrible result.

Standard thrashing of a local club team but still, 2-1-1 in games I should have comfortably won in with.

Mixed emotions then before the tournament.

Russia 2018!

We began against the Arab country of Saudi Arabia. And...well...

https://sortitoutsi.net/uploads/mirrored_images/cVvE7us8v9w86PW2wkMOCkTSlGGia0GdwTOn1ouN.png

4-1, an emphatic result against the weakest nation in the group. It was a match we were expected to win, but to achieve such a thrashing was fantastic. Also, Deza in the last ten minutes.

It came at a consequence, however. The injury table after the first game:

https://sortitoutsi.net/uploads/mirrored_images/MucQV5fv7rZWlIwOaLsaEzwURTbP8oMiLLOcVIQO.png

Ballon was the only bona fide first teamer in the side, but De Silva was someone I was looking to to become the next star striker.

https://sortitoutsi.net/uploads/mirrored_images/uP20ruW99261gZ1iRVNlYhOYSBIV6cwcyApRhB2h.png

Spitting distance of the top of the group, which we would have made if not for a last minute goal. The match saw injury to Jefferson Farfan, who had decided to retire from football after the World Cup. As such, this was his last ever professional game.

https://sortitoutsi.net/uploads/mirrored_images/a5YgtkIhkx1DoXb0HlSMbkNGjiMDms8MMHezxsco.png

Annoying. Moutinho scored a freekick to equalise, and they held on. Meant I was in the Second Round be I was secretly disappointed with the second place result.

Sometimes things just go your way.

Set up defensively, and we went all the way to penalties. Missed one, but scored the rest and went into the Quarter Final!

Against Argentina...

After riding the penalty luck against Croatia, we were within spitting distance of the Semi Final, only for Ruidiaz to hit the post from the spot...

It was a heartbreaker. Argentina took the lead from a corner and Aguero knocked in a freekick to make it two. Ruidiaz scored a fantastic one on one and two great pieces of play turned it right around for us, only for Aguero to score another freekick (the third against me this tournament!). The penalty incident happened, then in extra time, Rescaldani capitalised from a defensive error to win for Argentina.

Heartbreaking.

Italy won the cup, beating Belgium 4-2 in the final.

Not sure if I mentioned earlier but we were as high as third in the rankings at one point. Down now.

Ah that was unlucky against Argentina pal, if only that late penalty had gone in, but as you said, it swings in round abouts as you did over come Croatia, keep it going!

Cheers, yeah it was disappointing but the future is looking okay, plenty of new blood coming through the ranks!

Now to round up 2018, just friendlies to go, as South American World Cup Qualifiers for 2022 won't start until after the 2019 Copa America:

https://sortitoutsi.net/uploads/mirrored_images/5awhOPOlreI72nTY54bLg7BxI4bp9HJCVzB2CrZK.png

A win in Africa, and a late goal settled it. Dour game, but friendlies often can be.

https://sortitoutsi.net/uploads/mirrored_images/7CECIBoH5RYVghXT37cGTZWDqRHljb2Rvq7oaIhH.png

Followed it up with a fantastic win over Turkey. 1-0 down, changes were made and we managed to nab the win, with De Silva getting his first international goal. With me looking for an established Number 9, he's made a great claim for his case!

https://sortitoutsi.net/uploads/mirrored_images/W3Rs7kyWW6TIp2N1h5OfRGCadtCHxHVVfP5Epu8h.png

The great run continued, with De Silva bagging another goal and Cueva, who has always been on the cusp of the first team, getting a couple. We should have made it an even higher scoreline in the second half, but I'll settle for a 3-0 away win.

https://sortitoutsi.net/uploads/mirrored_images/8KLR2rBqlkXbHcg8uSZjTWSJOEcEWjYD5sE14S9c.png

And we just kept on avoiding defeat! Cueva and Ballon adding to their previous Autumn Friendlies goals.

The Copa America 2019 draw. If that was 2015 I'd have been nervous, but now I consider that extremely winnable. Funny how things change, eh?

Wrapped up the year with another away win. It meant that I'd won on every continent aside from the Americas in Autumn!

As it's been five years I've given an all-time team, as opposed to a year best. Can't really argue too much with the lineup, although maybe I'd have Flores on the left wing and take Yotun out, and have Tapia in Central Midfield.

Forgot to edit this pic but here's the results from the year:

9-4-2 for the year. That's 46-22-17 for all time. The only defeats coming to Argentina and bloody Lithuania!

2019

Entered into my sixth year of management with Peru in 2019, and there was a Copa America on the horizon. So as usual, the first set of fixtures were the pre-season warm-up games.

Comfortable win over Cuba.

Then...

Normal game against a host club team.

18 goals in 4 games though, not a bad warm up at all!

Copa America 2019

What time is it? Why, it's time for yet another Copa America!

This one is also held in Brazil, and we were one of the favourites for the cup. We started off against Colombia:

https://sortitoutsi.net/uploads/mirrored_images/Lb4jMeF4J0fftcPhWfyFjUdx8yABcUXvv3pUGjUa.png

Bit of a dull game, unfortunately from my squad of 22 by this point I had about four injuries to the team. Over the course of the tournament, this would only worsen.

https://sortitoutsi.net/uploads/mirrored_images/bAd4ufX2GwGHC182pMLNBOFThRlNHQFcP7LU8tGa.png

A fantastic turnaround against one of the enemies, I was now comfortable keeping Ecuador in my back pocket. Ruidiaz picked up where he left off from last year's World Cup, and we were top of the group with the (in theory) easiest team to go in the group!

https://sortitoutsi.net/uploads/mirrored_images/Y11uECyo2XLhwIv4vzyonLQrGM9mfKK8CnIigaxJ.png

And we hammered them. 1-1 at halftime, in the second we turned on the style with superhero Jean Deza bagging a hatrick, our first under my regime at a major tournament. And for the sixth consecutive time, we've qualified from the group stage of a major tournament!

Unfortunately, the Zambrano booking led to a suspension. It meant for our Quarter Final tie, we were seven men down. I was only able to bench five players, two of with were goalkeepers.

Oh, and of course, I win the group and end up playing the hosts, Brazil....

https://sortitoutsi.net/uploads/mirrored_images/u6jzD1Z1HzOKALAFrQlGWXSc1J1Bi0pP0HK8BGM2.png

Andy Polo, our reserve reserve striker, injured after three minutes.

Downhill after that and 1-0 flattered us. Disappointing way to leave the tournament but given the circumstances it's a fantastic achievement to get as far as we did in the style that we managed it.

I have made the very difficult decision to hand in my resignation as the head couch of the Peruvian National Team.

This decision has not been an easy one to make. Over the past six and half years, I have shared some fantastic achievements and memories with the national side and the staff that have worked alongside me.

When I came into the job in March 2013, Peru were in a great World Cup qualifying position, sitting in third place in the standings. Unfortunately we only managed to qualify via the playoffs. It was understandable for me to be placed under pressure following this, but we managed to stick together and we made it to the Second Round of Brazil 2014, where we lost to the eventual winners of the World Cup, Ivory Coast. This was a satisfactory result considering our group had included England and holders Spain, both of whom we avoided defeat to. We followed this up the following year with a credible Quarter Final spot at Copa America 2015.

The season 2015/16 has to go down as my most successful in International Management. We managed to win eight of our first nine qualifying games, including historic wins away at Argentina and Brazil, and led the standings at the halfway stage. We continued this great form into winning the Centennial Copa America, Peru's third victory in the tournament and a celebration for all of the Peruvian people. Following this great form, we successfully qualified for our second World Cup in a row, holding out the likes of Brazil to achieve a qualification spot.

We featured at the 2017 Confederations Cup in Brazil, defeating the hosts Russia in the opening game and making it it all the way to the final, where we conceded our only goal of the competition in a 1-0 defeat to the Ivory Coast. During this time, we also made it to a record-high of third place in the FIFA World Rankings, solidifying our top seeding position for the 2018 World Cup Group Stage draw. We had another successful World Cup campaign, finishing second in our group without defeat, and defeating a much-fancied Croatia in the Second Round. We then lost to Argentina in heartbreaking circumstances following extra time.

In my six and a half years we have competed in tournaments in six successive Summers, and we managed to qualify from the group stages in every single competition. I am immensely proud of the players that have played for me under this period and their efforts cannot be undermined. With them, we have created a historic period for the country, that will go down in folklore for generations.

I feel compelled to announce that this decision has not come as a result of our lower-than-expected Copa America 2019 campaign. This has been a decision that I have felt the desire to do from before the tournament began. I am the longest serving manager in the history of the national side, and I feel that I have gone as I personally feel I can go. But the future is bright for whoever the Peruvian FA choose to bring in. The Under 20s came second in the South American Under 20 Championship earlier this year, and are featuring at the Under 20 World Cup next month. This showcases the talent that Peru have coming through.

My time at Peru has come to an end, however a new beginning for the side is just about to start.

Thank you.
Dan White

The many saves is due to having once a fortnight saving, plus saving before every match as my laptop is so unreliable and prone to overheating that it's just as a precaution. As you may have seen in some of my comments, this has been a problem in the past.

2019 Results:
https://sortitoutsi.net/uploads/mirrored_images/ZV4u4oLOVkWcohGM4hpAdTDIam1Hl8jWh75kjOoY.png

6-1-1 for the year. 52-23-18 for all time. 189 goals for, and 100 conceded (I think). Biggest win was 9-0 over Gibraltar, while our biggest defeat was 6-0 to Ecuador. I'm not going to work out how many players I used or who scored the most but there's the important stuff. Highest ranking was 3rd, and the lowest was around the low 40s.

I ended this on my terms, which I'm delighted about as it's the first from four I've been able to say I've done so with. I was aiming to resign after the 2023 Copa America but following the 2018 World Cup, I realised we've probably gone as far as we were going to, and I could see the game becoming slightly tedious with the same expectations each competition. So I made the decision before the 2019 Copa America to resign after the tournament no matter the result. We didn't win, which was a shame, but I've had a great time with this file. We won a tournament, had a competition every Summer sans the first year, so it was plentiful.

I intend to continue going around the International scene and picking regions and teams. Five years might be more realistic, however. We'll see, depends how I feel. I've identified like nine regions in total for the World and it would be great if I could nail them all (I tend to buy FMs every two years, so I've got plenty of time!). I've also got another couple of projects in the pipeline. I'd like to try Celtic Nation again one day, the Pentagon sounds quite tempting and I have a variation of the British Steel Challenge that I'm thinking of starting. We'll see.

Thanks everyone for reading and I'll be back shortly!
