i've found FM13 to be quite difficult, too - seems a step up from FM12 at least .. whether or not this was intentional i don't know

I failed to qualify for the U21 Championships with Germany, then got Bochum promoted on a shoestring budget. So basically, it seemed difficult at first, and now it seems easy. I suppose it's just very unpredictable.

Given the game is not long out, I'd suggest the people moaning that it's 'too hard' will be those who found ways to 'beat' the game on previous versions. And those ways perhaps not working on this version.

Could it be that in this version, you actually have to use a bit of skill

Yer, me too. Relegated with notts county. Also found that the opposition team score from incredibly acute angle, near impossible alot of the time, wot are the keepers there for LOL

True, this one seems more realistic and more dependant on tactical refining rather than one tactic works against all teams!

I've found FM13 much easier than FM12 so far. I've already much more success with it than I pretty much ever did on FM12.

I find it really hard to manage my pep talks. The players nearly always react badly(red color) saying *seems relaxed* , *seem to loose focus* , but i'm doing the same things i was doing in fm12 ( they worked very good in fm12 - players always have SUPERB morale). Any tips for me? The thing i found out that cautious seem to be best when peptalking .

This.

The two games I've started since it came out have both already been more enjoyable than any save I had on FM12. I actually feel as though my decisions make a difference, rather than stumble onto a winning formula by chance.

Love this game to bits at the moment.

I guess "easier" and "harder" are subjective to whatever teams you are playing as.

IMO, the new ME is a little more random than the old one and leads to a greater percentage of upsets.

I'm playing as Man United and my original plan to play an ultra-attacking 3-2-3-2 formation got canned because I was allowing 2.5 goals per game against mediocre teams.

I've found more success defensively by always using fullbacks, and always using "press more" and setting "tight marking" on all strikers and wingers. Otherwise I just saw my CBs getting burned repeatedly or giving way too much space to midfielders on the edge of the box.

Well I've started from unemployed sunday league rep and am currently managing a non league team, so I think I can't go much lower. I agree with StewartyMac though. You feel like changing tactics or giving different instructions makes more of a difference.

I found it hard at first, struggled with united getting beat 3 of first 4 games, but since then i've found it slightly easier, just tweak tactics and use more skill and take your time.

I'm also playing as United, currently 4th in the league in mid-January. I still there's either a little too much randomness, or perhaps it's just that teams with counterattacking styles are a little overpowered. I've had my share of 3 or 4 goal winning margins, but also games where my standard basic defensive tactics have lead me to concede 3 or 4 goals to awful teams like Wigan or Reading. Clean sheets seem rare.

I have found it more tricky, had to change my tactics a lot already in my first season.

I've found that no tactic works, unless you tweak it to every opponent, which is suspect because I think that instructions and shouts really do more harm to a team setup than help. That's not that realistic. I find that strikers are largely superfluous, and really only exist to make the manager believe that they can score if a chance does happen to fall their way. I've started running a 5-5-0 and found success, but that's hardly realistic, and only served to piss off my forwards, and have my chairman complaining about the team philosophy.

I realise that FM12 was perhaps too easy, but this went too far the other way to correct. I'd tweak down the goalscoring from the FM12 engine, then include that, but keep everything else in the FM13 game. The training, contract, release and development lists, staff roles, and philosophies are just fine and dandy.
