While you are still working on my previous suggestion I'd like to give another idea for an improvement. I've personally missed quite a few private messages, because I haven't had an idea that I've got one. It would be great if there would be some indicator after the "messages" on left-hand side panel under your username. It could be as simple as a number inside brackets telling you how many unread private messages you have. Such as Messages (1) or Messages (5).

Of course if the spam that we are getting from the subscribed threads gets sorted it will help to notice any mails about new private messages too, but even then it would be great to have something on the site telling you that you have some unread private messages.

It definitely does. It will show a number in a big green icon.

Yes it does after you go to your private messages. It doesn't show anything on the main page though (under your name where you have links to your messages, my career and my account). That's what I mean.

I've made some changes to the topic subscriptions, this is what should happen now:

1) When someone posts it won't send if you're the poster (duh!)
2) If you read the post before an email is sent out, you won't get an email
3) If you have received an email and HAVEN'T read the post, you will not receive an email for another 24 hours. However if you read the post and then another email is sent, you will receive more than one email in 24 hours (e.g. post at 1pm, get email, read it, post again at 3pm, you'll get another email)

This is totally unrelated to any problems relating to private messages and I will look into that separately.

Whenever i get a PM i always get the green bubble with a number one, or however many PM's i get on the main page.

That's weird because I don't. Rob already mentioned about that yesterday and tried sending me several test PM's but I couldn't see it. I even tested it with three different browsers and with all plugins disabled. Maybe it has something to do with my individual user profile? I could try creating another account and see if it works on that.

Don't bother creating different profiles and stuff. I can investigate, just got two other projects for this week that I need to concentrate on for now

It's not a problem mate. I can just create another profile and limit some possibilities. It's bugging me as well so I may as well see if it has any effect.

Please don't, it's against the rules and is annoying to have multiple inactive user accounts. Just leave me to sort it, it's a code problem you're not going to be able to figure it out yourself.
