The Arsenal boss went on to praise the spirit Palace played with, and some of their individual player performances.
"You also have to say that Crystal Palace showed good spirit, and they showed they wanted it more than we did. They had some players who played really well, and confirmed that Selhurst Park is a hard place to come and play, which we knew before."
"They have great fans, and as a unit they were much better than us today, it cannot be denied."
Wenger also hinted at potential squad rotation for the return leg of their Champions League qualifier.
"It's possible. I will play a strong team, but obviously we want to make sure we win, so I will not leave too many important players out."
Arsenal play Besiktas at the Emirates in three days time.

It wasn't long before Arsenal had a chance, it was an open goal which Joel Campbell failed to convert after Tomas Rosicky squared it to him with the goalkeeper already committed.
Arsenal continued their midfield domination, and Besiktas failed to create themselves any chances, and Wojciech Szczesny remained largely untroubled throughout the game.
The next big chance for the home side came when Chamberlain was played through perfectly by Ozil, but Zengin made a phenomenal stop to deny the Englishman his goal.
Persistence pays off however and it was Chamberlain who earnt the penalty ten minutes later after being held back in the box. Arteta stepped up ad confidently powered the ball past Zengin, who went the right side but couldn't keep it out.
The match fizzled out, and the whistle was blown after Arteta skied a free kick from thirty yards.
Arsenal qualifies once again for the Champions League group stages, and will eagerly anticipate the draw in a few days time.

Arsenal will be pleased with draw considering the other names that were in the pot, however Arsene Wenger warned against complacency, playing up Arsenal's Champions League opponents.
"We should not underestimate any teams in our group. Leverkusen have quality players, and playing away in Moscow and Belgrade will be very tough, and we know we will have to work hard to get a result."

Alexis Sanchez had the first chance 20 minutes in, but the Chilean shot wide into the side netting after Olivier Giroud headed the ball down.
Arsenal's first goal came from an unlikely source, as it was ex-Southampton man Calum Chambers who jumped up to powerfully head in a Mesut Ozil corner and heap misery on his old club. Arsenal took their one goal lead into the break, and rarely looked troubled in a first half they dominated.
The trend continued into the second half and only five minutes in, Giroud obtained a penalty after being bundled over in the box. Captain Mikel Arteta stepped up and diligently converted what was his third penalty of the season and his second in two games.
Arsenal weren't finished, and one minute later a poorly cleared Mesut Ozil corner found its way to the feet of Santi Cazorla, who guided the ball through the bodies and into the net to make it three.
With a comfortable lead, Arsenal sat back and kept possession, and Southampton rarely troubled in what was even better second performance from the Gunners. To add insult to injury for the Saints, Steven Davis picked up his second yellow for a silly foul in the middle of the park late on.
The win puts Arsenal up to fourth in the table ahead of the international break, which will be followed by a trip to Burnley for the Gunners.
