Why does Clough have to go?

He took over when you were fighting relegation didn't he?

It's hard for a manager to turn down a club the size of Portsmouth. Any manager will want to see if they can get them back to their best.

Would understand the whole decision if his current club would be going nowhere but this man actualy build Chesterfield and was just two games away from Wembley and a possible promotion to the Champonship. Bit of a step back imo

Does seem a bit bizarre. Fearful of next season's expectations at Chesterfield having just missed out on promotion, perhaps? Though surely there are just as high at Portsmouth given the size of the club given their league...After 3 years maybe it is the old "I took them as far as I could" adage.

Chesterfield have appointed Dean Saunders. The man who has been relegated three times in the last four seasons.

Well he supposedly tweeted an email from BFC saying his contract has been extended a year, I don't have twitter and haven't seen the email but that's what people say! However, he is on a pay as you play deal so he won't be earning anything as he won't be playing and this way we still have him registered for when the season begins. Another genius way our chairman can save money at the expense of the club!

At its meeting in London today, the Board of Directors of The Football League considered matters relating to the abandoned Sky Bet Championship match between Blackpool and Huddersfield Town on May 2.

The Board took the view that the 0-0 scoreline that stood at the time of the game's abandonment (in the 48th minute) should be officially recorded as the final result of the match, as it believes that league points should always be earned on the field of play.

In addition, the Board agreed to charge Blackpool with failing to fulfil a fixture and the matter will be heard by a Football Disciplinary Commission in due course.

In making its judgment the FDC will be asked to consider any matters relating to compensation to Huddersfield Town and ticket refunds to supporters.

The Board also asked its executive to review the League's regulations regarding abandonments to ensure that any such matches can always be played to a conclusion or replayed altogether if deemed necessary.

40,000 words is a bit much, tbf. I just need a handful to point out that IF the result should be decided on the field of play (as they state) they should not have ordered the match not to be replayed. As they made that decision, they should have decided it in our favour as the innocent party. Blackpool FC are vicariously liable for the acts of their fans, and should not have been allowed to get any benefit while we were denied the opportunity to win the football match.

Oh, and if a team needs a point from the final game of the season to stay or go up, I assume the result will stand if their fans invade the pitch and refuse to leave, forcing an abandonment...

They also took the circumstances (fixture had no real bearing on anything) into account

So, Wycombe vs Southend is going to be the League Two play-off final. Both teams deserve it because of the way they played in the regular season. BE interesting to see who wins it now, kinda fancy Wycombe but Phil Brown has been in a play-off at Wembley before so he is familiar with the situation which Ainsworth isn't

I was being sarcastic (hence the ...). One of my (many) problems with that ruling is that it undermines the integrity of the competition and places more importance on games which do have a bearing at the top and the bottom at the end of the season. The game should have been treated with the same gravity as if the Derby-Reading game had been abandoned, or even if the Reading-Derby game had been abandoned in September.

Well the League 2 play off final should be a good one!

Hoping Brentford can turn it around against Boro tonight but don't see it happening if I am honest. Everyone down here knows the big game is tomorrow anyway

Just glad it isn't Wycombe vs. Stevenage; the amount of time wasting going on in that game would mean they would still be playing on Bank Holiday Monday.

I assume Nathan Redmond gets some sort of bonus for shooting high and wide when he'd be better off passing the thing? If he had a brain he'd be dangerous.

Pretty much this! I like Boro, think they've done very well this year. However I've always liked seeing Norwich in the top tier. Think of the two I'd rather see Boro go up!
