How often should I apply the clingfilm/leave it on for?

Did the lad who gave you the tattoo not give you a sheet with details about looking after it? I'm pretty sure they have to

I just used to use Vaseline to stop the scrab from drying up and taking the colour out.

Your tattooist sounds rather sketchy if that's literally all the aftercare talk he gave you.

That aside; every tattooist has their own sort of take but the general concept remains the same. Don't soak it in water, particularly when showering. Gently clean it without soap (unless it's unfragranced antibacterial) and pat dry. Clean it 3-4 times a day (paper towel is best, material traps bacteria) and apply Bepanthan or a specialised tattoo cream. Never use Vaseline or anything similar because it traps the bacteria and doesn't allow the tattoo to breathe. Basically, treat it as you would a burn.

Personally, I usually keep mine wrapped for the first 72h- day and night, cleaning no more than 3-4 times a day. After then I'll keep it unwrapped during the day unless I'm wearing clothes that will cause rubbing or in an environment which may cause dirt etc to stick. Sometimes I'll wrap or an extra night or two, depends.

Also try to keep it out of direct sunlight for extended periods because that will dry it out and cause scabbing, not to mention damage the skin via sunburn.

Tbh, he did tell me about the soap, soaking it, and all that etc. I was in rush at the end. Only thing I didn't know about was the clingfilm. I just thought i'd start a new threat try and promote more activity here and show off my new tat
