Defenders & Closing Down

I'm having a lot of issues where nearly every goal I concede comes from one of my center backs making the awful decision to go charging out of position to unnecessarily close down the opposition and their striker runs into the space picks up a pass and scores. It's getting on my tits if i'm honest I have instructed both center backs not to close down, they both have good mental stats yet still persist on doing it! Any ideas on how I can stop this as it's ruining the game for me.

I've tried changing their roles to cover instead of defend which seems to have made improvements in the last few games, only other thing I can think to do is play an anchor man in front of them but that means changing the teams shape which i'd rather avoid.

It seems to be working at the moment so i'm gonna leave it for a while and see how it goes

what you want is to go into player instructions for your centre backs and set them to close down much less and stick to position. I noticed a big difference .

I did that and it made no difference, I think my lack of a natural defensive minded midfielder was leaving too much space to exploit between defence and midfield which was forcing defenders out of position. Not that it matters now that i've left the club.

yeah true. thats odd cause mine dont move from central defense
