Gentleman..

For lack of a better word I'm having an absolute MARE.

I recently purchased FM17, and have been looking forward to playing the BETA for weeks.

I stupidly fiddled about with the zoom options in preference, which suited the game play screen, however, much to my horror when i quit and opened up FM 17 again its come up, but too zoomed in that i can't press continue and go past the first part.

After doing some research on how to fix this i found what i hoped would be the solution; clicking properties on FM17 in steam, going to "Set Launch Options" and typing in "-windowed."
Seemed like it would have helped however, its still the exact same zoomed-in-ness (if thats a word.)

Attached is a photo of my struggle.. Please, if any of you have a minute and more brain cells than me (which isn't hard) than do feel free to suggest a solution, as i really can't find one.

MANY many thanks in advance for any help whatsoever.

Evening pal.

Can't you just uninstall it, then reinstall it? Guessing you've purchased it through Steam??

I've done this before when I've messed the game up by fiddling with the background files etc, and it normally does the trick?

Good luck.

Hi Gary,

Many thanks for the reply. Ive uninstalled and re-installed and its still the same unfortunately..
When i was fiddling about i was just in preferences and zoomed in x150 to make it a little larger, but i think thats whats messed it up. Truly frustrating!

Thanks for the reply anyway mate!

Hi!

I figured the reason re-installing the game doesn't change the zoom setting is because someplace else on your computer there's a folder with your FM 17 settings in it that remains regardless of uninstallation. You must find the location of your game settings and then edit the zoom setting (if it can be opened with Notepad or something like it and if it is in fact an easily readable setting file). You should also be able to delete it to force the game to re-create a new setting file. I don't know if it does that only during fresh installation & running the game for the first time - or if it simply recreates the settings file when you delete it and run the game again.

That should reset the settings and allow you to carry on in the game menus as you were.

If someone here knows the location where FM 17 creates the settings files, please let SRCA know!

I'll have a look myself too, maybe I can spot the folder.

Good luck!

Hi again SRCA!

I think I found it!

http://www.footballmanager.com/support/faqs/how-delete-my-preferences-folder-1

It says the following in there:

To delete your Preferences Files please do the following:

First of all make sure the game is closed before you proceed.

For Windows Vista and Windows 7:

- Click ‘Start’

- Select ‘Computer’

- From the header, select ‘Organize’ dropdown

- Select ‘Folder and Search Options’

- Within here, select the ‘View’ tab and make sure ‘Show Hidden Files and Folders’ is selected

- Navigate to C:\Users\[Your Windows Username]\AppData\Local\Sports Interactive\Football Manager 2016

- Delete the Preferences folder

For Windows 8 and Windows 10:

- Click ‘File Explorer’ from within the taskbar (or click ‘Desktop/Start’ then type in ‘File Explorer&rsquo

- On the header click ‘View’ and make sure above ‘Show/hide’ that ‘Hidden Items’ is ticked

- Navigate to C:\Users\[Your Windows Username]\AppData\Local\Sports Interactive\Football Manager 2016

- Delete the Preferences folder

Please bear in mind, these are not your save games or the same folder which contains these, this folder is completely unrelated. Upon deleting your preferences your in-game preference settings will be restored to default, so the folder will be regenerated when you launch the game. The next time you launch the game remember to change any preferences you wish to have changed (such as auto save regularity, sound level or game display mode).

And are similar instruction for Mac OS as well:
http://www.footballmanager.com/support/faqs/how-delete-my-preferences-folder-0

I know it says Football Manager 2016 but surely the FM 2017 settings can be found in a similar location. I'm positive this will do the trick, but please let me know how it worked.

Tommy,

Damn you're fast to find it! Unfortunately i saw this earlier today, and went ahead and deleted cache and preferences folder, and still nothing. Its a real head scratcher.

Im thinking the only other option now is to delete FM17 again, delete all the folders (as i saved them last time as i had downloaded hours and hours of kits and pictures and stadiums and logos etc ha ha) So, ill have to bite the bullet and just delete everything and try again, what do you reckon?

And thanks again mate, top guy!

Well that really is odd.

Be sure to move the kits, stadium pictures, logos etc. to a safe location if you try wiping out all the FM 17 related folders. That way it won't take too long to replace them later on when you've got the game working.

By the way, did you use a custom skin or the default one? A custom skin might mess the screen up, I suppose, although it's most likely it's because of the zoom level thing.

I'm going to have a look at the preferences file(s) and see if the settings can be easily found there and changed with Notepad. I suggest you don't delete the whole thing yet, in case there's a quick solution there to be found.

I'll be back. Soon.
