Introduction
After playing as Bayer Leverkusen last year, I'm really looking forward to giving it another try. The team is made up of a fantastic blend of proven experience and exciting youth, which allows the club to immediately start challenging for the most significant of trophies.

My objective while at the club is to continue their long tradition of generating profit and at the same time maintaining their competitive status. I also hope to win the club their first major trophy since the DFB-Pokal in 1993. The long-term goal for me is to learn more about the German Bundesliga, and this may result in me eventually moving to other clubs in the league to expand my knowledge.

I'm starting the game with Transfer Budgets disabled, as I want to work with the squad that the club have in real life.

Pre-Season
I decided to retain a similar pre-season plan, starting with three small clubs and then moving onto more established clubs. That game me time to experiment with using versatile players in different positions, and testing out different tactics and formations.

Kicking off my campaign with a tired squad, we improved on Roger Schmidt's result with a solid 1-0 win away from home. I decided to go with a 4-2-3-1 and Javier Hernández worked well as a lone striker, scoring a neat goal from just outside the penalty area.

I made just 4 changes to the squad, so the majority of the team was match fit, and it really paid off! No fewer than five different players got on the scoresheet, including a sensational goal from Yurchenko from 30 yards out.

A sensational hat-trick from Chicharito capped off a fantastic performance from my team. I decided to switch to the 4-4-2 and Mehmedi took advantage of the Deep-Lying Forward role with great effect, scoring a goal and creating another.

I chose to play Dinamo București in order to get a look at their centre-back, Ionuț Nedelcearu. However, he didn't put in a good performance and we ended up dominating possession - we probably should've scored more goals in truth.

As fun as it's been watching Hernández score every game, I decided to rest him and give Joel Pohjanpalo a chance to impress, which he took well. Robbie Kruse gave me a headache by putting in a man-of-the-match performance.

The second big friendly of my pre-season preparations was against Vitesse, and it gave me a chance to take a closer look at Thomas Buitink and Mitchell van Bergen. Again, sadly neither of them impressed and we just ended up dominating the game. Chicharito returned from his rest to score yet another hat-trick, and continue his sensational start to the season.

This was the first game that I got to introduce my favoured 4-1-2-3 tactic. Obviously the squad needed some time to adjust, but we put in a fantastic first impression and, of course, another two goals from our resident goalscorer.

I decided to revert back to the more comfortable 4-2-3-1 for the big game against Ajax, and it paid off. As if from nowhere, Hernández decided to stop scoring and put in a mediocre performance, so it was up to the midfielders to win the game. Super sub Pohjanpalo helped us seal up the win.
