A few games later, and we had the chance to get a lead at the top, but we slip up to already relegated side, Sydney Olympic. We're performing above expectations anyway, and we have a cup final to look forward to as well, so it's not the end of the world.

On the final day, we could still win the league and cup double, but to do so, we needed to win and for Wellington Pheonix to beat Melbourne Victory. If us and Melbourne Victory both lost, and Adelaide United won, they could come from out of nowhere and snatch it from us both...

Adelaide got the win they needed. Now they just needed us and Melbourne to lose...

https://sortitoutsi.net/uploads/mirrored_images/ytfE05upqGBkyWFKNRU02UiVSNOSHZdfienrEfo4.png

And Wellington Pheonix also won, so all we had to do was beat Sydney FC, and we'd be crowned champions with the chance of doing the double...

And we did it! First season, first trophy. It was a very nervy game, especially as most of my attention was on the other two games, as I knew if Melbourne won, then whatever went on in our game was irrelevant. But abdoulaye Bamba scored, and came up when it mattered as usual, and I just put all my players in defensive positions as that is all I could do. I just had to watch and hope, and eventually, the goal did come. Honestly, I didn't believe we could do it. We were lucky in the fact that the inevitable bottle job at some point during any season of mine, occurred early on, and Melbourne's was at the end.

Having just won the league, I was hoping that the players weren't still hungover from the win earlier in the week. But we had beaten quality opposition on the way to the final, and in that final, we play a team from the division below us, but the top goalscorer in the competition is from this team.

https://sortitoutsi.net/uploads/mirrored_images/WxoCPzF05xLy6zqhqnkYDwLEusFZLco6GMN8Lrts.png

The first leg was seemingly easy. We scored within 42 seconds and I was thinking, already, 'this is easy' but I tried not to, because knowing the game like I do, that mentality would suddenly turn the opposition into a premier league standard team. Anyway, we did double our lead through an own goal, and this put us in a good position for the second leg

https://sortitoutsi.net/uploads/mirrored_images/hLPx4hA3W9O31MPV1L3nXTdhJBoYbr7v3wb9Fikx.png

And the second leg began in the same fashion as the first; Luciano Becchio scored an early goal, and then doubled our tally 7 minutes later. However on 20 minutes, they scored two and it was game on again, especially when they scored again, and made it 3-2 on the day. Again, I went on the defensive and held out for the win and...

...We did the double! Somehow, we won both domestic cups, and now have nothing else to win in Australia. This brings me onto my next point; should I leave or stay for the next season?

I just said should I leave, this should help you make a decision... Guangzhao Evergrande sacked their manager. They have Jackson Martinez, Ricardo Goulart, Alan, Paulinho and new signing Kevin Mirallas. I think this would be good to take as it is a new nation and one of the best jobs in Asia, if not the best. I'm not sure if I'll even get the job, but it's worth applying for, if you think that's where I should go.

Unfortunately @Dan and @Sean_ I saw the news article a bit too late, and they'd already found a new manager..

https://sortitoutsi.net/uploads/mirrored_images/MOIGyVbZhpqClSFxc9jdgZDL9oeU2fglVO2BeeiL.jpg

I been really busy lately, hence the lack of updates, but with the season at its conclusion, these were the results that eventually got us the double at the first attempt. Our main issue was the teams between 4th and 7th; we could beat the teams around us and in relegation positions, but just not the few who were having 'safe' seasons. Teams like Central Coast Mariners and Newcastle Jets. We did get out of our group in the Champions league, and we got another difficult team in Gamba Osaka from Japan.

https://sortitoutsi.net/uploads/mirrored_images/48ZyVYkFBzEJ8NFtlyaHQxRWZaW9Do525e2Ok7BT.png

As I've said, we did win the league, but look how close it was! The top three teams were all on 75 points, Adelaide, despite having one goal less on the goal difference, finished ahead of Melbourne Victory on head-to-head records. WSW and Melbourne City both had poor seasons, finishing 14th and 6th respectively.

https://sortitoutsi.net/uploads/mirrored_images/sZPIjiUiIjIWNGtDI2VwrAu5VthL4wimAvkex9IR.png

We didn't get anyone in the top goalscorers, but thats mainly because James Maclaren left in January and Novillo came in, so we had two different goalscorers in the season. Luke DeVere and Matt McKay both had very good seasons, but Josh Risdon for Perth Glory should probably win Player of the Year, he finished with the highest average rating, the most player of the match awards and 17 assists from right back! Similarly to the goalscorers, we rotated keepers throughout the season.

https://sortitoutsi.net/uploads/mirrored_images/ZJxP1vxI0Gqsvutr7J0XwYePrseNTiaHOHIJo8Ou.jpg

As i mentioned we rotated all three keepers, and they all performed well, but, should I stay this year, Jamie Young would probably be leaving. He's 31, and on par with 14 year old Garry Jones. Nebojsa Stosic has also taken his place at only 18, but he is wanted by Chelsea, so I'm not sure how long he'll be around. Abdoulaye Bamba was by far the standout defender in terms of average rating, not least that he managed to get the goal that won us the league. Jean-Pascal Mignot will probably be leaving too if I stay as Michalis Nakas is now starting ahead of him at 17, and with him being almost 20 years older, it would be beneficial for us to shift him on. Probably my favorite player in this team is Matt McKay. He's 34 and still performing at the highest quality. I've also trained him at left back, and despite not playing there often, he is now accomplished there. Brett Holman finished the season strong despite being very poor at the start of the year. Becchio and Novillo were both solid strikers too, who will remain there next year.

The Star Performers:

Michalis Nakas - Was a backup option, but now is playing better than Mignot as I've said. He'll probably end up leaving for a big European club as seems to be the trend here, but he's been good whilst he has been here.

Nebojsa Stosic - Another player who started the season as a backup and replaced the player in that position. Has been quality since he began starting, and has attracted the interest of Chelsea and Manchester United, so he also may not be here long..

@Ipswich Knights I'm using the Sangue Blu one. I could have used the other one that is available, but there are less leagues, and I'd rather play in more different countries than fewer that are more realistic. It's still fun though

The first two relatively important departures at the club. Iqbal Jawadi left to Seognam in Korea for £500k. He was a rotational player in the end, but was complaining that he wanted the team to be built around him, which just wasn't realistic. Joey Katebain also left. Although he did get a few goals at the end of the season, he just wasn't reliable enough for me. We managed to get £250k for him

There were also two major contract extensions at the club. Luke DeVere signed a new contract despite interest from China, who are continually becoming more of a force, with the additions of Dejan Lovren and Marouane Fellaini to the league. Also Nebojsa Stosic signed a new contract despite interest from Chelsea and Manchester United.

Three more significant dealings at the club; Pawel Dawidowicz comes in on a free, and as you can see by his scout report, he looks to be one of the best players at the club. He is also only 22, and came from Benfica B on a free so should be good. We also brought in Ze Eduardo, who is another central midfield option. Will probably start a lot of the games, unlike the third signing Wei Canri, who comes in for £28k from Changchun Yatai. For some reason he was transfer listed despite being a good prospect. Will count towards our Asian quota in the Champions league too.

Here's the squad I have at my disposal currently. We have two Brazilians who are on over £50k p/week, with only Luiz Carlos starting week in week out. Therefore Osvaldo may have to be shifted on. We also have two significant loanees in defence. Almamy Toure from Monaco and Lucas Hernandez from Atletico Madrid, who will both be starting. The main issue with the squad at the moment is the goalkeeper and midfield positions. We have two keepers at the club, both being 14, so I'll be looking for a new keeper, and also we have a lack of depth in midfield. I'll also be looking to increase defensive cover as we only have a few full backs. Finally, the last thing I need to keep in mind is the Champions League registration. Although the Champions League is not a priority, I need to make sure I bring in some Saudi players in order to be able to play.

The first thing I set out to address was the goalkeeper. I had plenty of money to spend, however when I saw Alphonse Areola become available on loan, I couldn't pass it up. He is far too good to be playing in Saudi Arabia, but either way, it doesn't bother me. And knowing FM, he'll probably be transfer listed soon as he is PSG won't desperately need him, so I may try to buy him. And the second signing is a central midfielder. Andres Roa comes in for £200k, which looks to be a bargain when you consider his stats, particularly mentally. He'll start most games for us, but he is out injured for around a month unfortunately

https://sortitoutsi.net/uploads/mirrored_images/1q1IIULUYWQY37YLKR2Iy1cFgkpifA2F1q9BkS58.png

I also moved on this guy, as he can only play on either wing, which we don't use in our tactic. I also terminated a loan of some young Spaniard for the same reason. We managed to get £450k for someone who'd never play.

4 more signings, just to fit the Saudi quota really. Al Shahrani can play anywhere across the backline and comes in from Al-Hilal for £650k, Al Dossari will be a rotational attacking midfielder, and also comes in from Al-Hilal but for £25k more than Al Shahrani and finally, to complete our Al-Hilal raid, we bought Al Abed for £350k and he'll be a backup central midfielder or attacking midfielder. We also signed a backup centre back called Al-Kaibari for £135k from Al-Nassr

The first big permanent signing of the window, as Pontus Jansson comes in from Torino for £1m. He was transfer listed, and he looks really good for this level so he should be worthwhile buying. He is also 6'4" so hopefully his height will be useful in a league where many players are under 6'0".

The final signing, and its a big one. Cheick Tiote comes in from Newcastle for £2.6m. He was transfer listed as he always is, and I thought he'd want a load of money, but he only wanted £23k which isn't bad considering we have two players on over £50k who aren't as good. His arrival is pretty significant given the fact that Luiz Carlos suffered an injury and is out for around 6 months

The transfer window has finally ended and after a busy transfer window, here is what we did. For the ins, from Walter Gonzalez upwards, they were all signed by the previous manager, and everything above Hussain Al-Mogahwi for the outs were done by the previous manager. I am actually very happy with the signings, as I signed every position I set out to, and even managed to get some Saudi players, whilst weakening other teams in the league in the process

https://sortitoutsi.net/uploads/mirrored_images/fUhn9teRkdnsfem98e16TOkE4OvABK8CSQpP7VOk.png

This is the team I intended on playing but with Luiz Carlos' injury, it is up to Al-Abed or the Icelandic guy to fill in. We also have Al-Soma, and for anyone who's heard of him, he has scored 61 in 66 games for Al Ahli in real life, so hopefully the Syrian can replicate that form for me. It'll also be interesting to see whether Osvaldo can fit the system. He is primarily a winger, but can play striker, but not target man. He is 30 so he'll have to prove himself quickly.

With 10 games gone in my stay at Al-Ahli, things were going as well as they could. I took over for the second game of the season, so at the moment, I have won every league game, and they only one I have failed to win was a draw in the cup. The most impressive result so far, is the win against Al-Ittihad, who are our rivals, so to win a derby only two games in definitely helped win over fans. Since then, Giannis Fetfatzidis and Walter Gonzalez have just been tearing up the league and cup, none more so than in a 9-0 demolition of Al-Amjad, who are an amateur side, but we still had to win. Fetfatzidis scored 4, with a couple of regens getting on the scoresheet among others. Another pretty interesting game was against Al-Jeel. They are bottom of the league, but since I've left Brisbane, the only sale they made was one of our star men last year, Luciano Becchio for £20k to them. We did beat them 3-0, with Osvaldo taking a rare opportunity in the team, with a brace and Al-Dossari scored his first for the club However, despite our dominance, we haven't played any of the 'big' teams in the league, like Al-Hilal, Al-Raed or Al-Shabab. The only 'big' team we've played is Al-Ittihad, but they are having a terrible season, and are hovering around the relegation zone, so once we've played these teams, only then will I judge how well we've done.

https://sortitoutsi.net/uploads/mirrored_images/wsszcJqrSZRW4mSkJwrxG0UXIbtS4iDO4NJgVLkY.png

We do sit top, as expected when you consider the results, but we are two points clear with a game in hand, which is useful, based on my history of bottling it. Al-Ittihad, as mentioned, are in the relegation zone, with only one win all season, and they are in serious trouble as they don't look like turning it round. Al-Hilal and Al-Raed are definitely our main challengers, having made some really good signings. Al-Hilal managed to bring in Fabio, from Middlesbrough on loan and Corentin Jean on loan from Monaco, whilst Al-Raed brought in Bruno Zuculini for free from Manchester City and Federico Dimarco from Inter on loan.

Star Performers:

Giannis Fetfatzidis - Has been the difference maker for us, and is far too good for the league. When I'm watching the game, he just doesn't give the ball away and all his shots are on target, and is a big reason why we are where we are. I won't be surprised to see a bigger European club snatch him from us, at only 26

Almamy Toure - The loanee from Monaco has been the clubs best performer from right back. He doesn't do anything spectacular but what he does do is always right. He is another that is too good for the league.

We suffered our first defeat of the season, but luckily it was in the Champions League, which we don't care too much for anyway. Ironically, the team that beat us was Al-Ittihad, who somehow, despite their poor league form, have made it to the semi finals of the Champions League and beat us in the first leg. Abdullah Jaafar, a 14 year old regen scored for us, which goes to show the disadvantage we've faced throughout this competition. Because the registration date was at the start of the transfer window, I didn't have time to bring in the Saudi players we needed to fill the quota and there were too many foreign players to register. So we've been forced to use a team without a bench, mainly comprised of regens and also two or three grayed out players

https://sortitoutsi.net/uploads/mirrored_images/3SR0pKkPqMgvDTYzozjBrLxAoqcJujRo49wCv0c4.png

However we did manage to overturn the deficit in the second leg, quite emphatically, with a 6-0 victory. Almamy Toure, who'd never scored for the club prior to this game, somehow grabbed a hat trick from right back, whilst 14 year old regen Al-Shamari scored a brace and Al-Harbi, another 14 year old also got on the scoresheet.

https://sortitoutsi.net/uploads/mirrored_images/SCqDOVt7ZgoSQMFsEUMXqF0uYgRpT9Pni0OWv0a7.png

This puts us through to the final, where we'll play Urawa Reds, from Japan. I'm not too fussed if we win or not, but the fact we've got here with basically a reserve team, shows we can win it next year if we can fill the registration quota

In between these two games in the Champions League, we played Al-Raed, who I picked out as a potential place that we could slip up. We took the lead early though an own goal and then Walter Gonzalez doubled our lead, but the Inter loanee, Rey Manaj scored to make it interesting. Al-Jassim did get sent off late on, but it didn't matter as we went on to win, and extend our lead at the top.

I'd say this is the closest we've come to losing this season in the league.. Najran played really well, and, despite the stats, probably deserved all three points. But Andres Roa, who is becoming a bit of a big game player for us, scored a free kick in the dying minutes of the game to save us from our first loss of the season. But the main talking points from this game were two injuries.

The Icelandic guy is only out for about a month, but we are struggling for central midfielders as it is, so this adds to the problem, but more importantly, Giannis Fetfatzidis, who has been the player of the season so far, is out for potentially two months, which really doesn't help at all.
