GIBRALTAR PREMIER DIVISION

Revenge is the perfect caviar, though we were mightily close to choking a 2-0 lead. We came out of the traps with haste, perhaps a hint of offside in the build up as Mark Salt lay fractionally ahead of the last defender to nod across to Scott Mitchell to rifle it in.

The second goal? Absolutely breathtaking.

The game became a lot more open after that, airing on the side of caution due to Gibraltar United's stealthy attack. Lee Stone's header forced a terrific stop from Soriano but soon after beat the offside trap to wallop United back into the game. Stone was the centre of attention, again forcing Soriano into acrobatics as he aimed for the top corner constantly. We held on for our second win on the bounce and perhaps get a run going.

It's hardly even surprising to know that Lincoln ran away with the league yet again.

IVAN F*CKING PEREZ. Cannot tell you how much he infuriates me. You can always count on this man to score one or two against us. Despite the number of chances in the game, it had a rather flat atmosphere to it and the two goals were the only proper highlights of the game. A huge blow to our top half chances.

Saavedra Amador got tackled to pieces in this game, no surprise he came away with a knock.

It was in the script wasn't it? Mark Salt whom we signed from Lynx came back to haunt them with a tremendous display - but that only told half the story. Kaydreon Drimmie was sandwiched and clattered between two players resulting in a penalty in the twentieth minute, only for Khali's effort to be saved spectacularly by Dayle Coleing. The game was tightly poised, Liberto Soriano pulling off super saves on three or four occasions, while Mark Salt was ever present in the Lynx area trying to sniff out a goal. The stars aligned, Drimmie put through mister sodium chloride who dramatically won us the game in the 92nd minute. How's that for a reunion?

https://sortitoutsi.net/uploads/mirrored_images/BoDl2mPkFBWw6v6BBDHRv3wNKV9rhtBXtfavsFp9.png

Brushed aside Gibraltar Phoenix in a cogent manner. With almost two thirds of possession, we never looked like cracking under pressure in this game. Drimmie dragged a shot wide when clean through but made up for it shortly before the break to reward our first half efforts. Phoenix shouldn't stem the tide, with Drimmie ever threatening to double his tally. Gomez-Mannion did extend the lead, a corner poorly dealt with gave Naranjo time to head into the path of GM to rifle it home. One long range effort on target was all Phoenix could muster up but Soriano was composed and never in any danger of conceding.

https://sortitoutsi.net/uploads/mirrored_images/kEKt1VyD2I4y81EsntByRyYkOzTekO5pGWJ5AlLl.png

Meanwhile, Mark Salt deservedly got called up to earn his first Gibraltarian cap. Delighted with his impact since he signed.

And Scott Mitchell deservedly took the goal of the month for April with that ferocious strike against Gibraltar United.

RESULTS OVERVIEW

LEAGUE TABLE

Our aims of top half, no matter how insignificant, are going to plan with two games left. Top four a strong possibility, third is not far off, second may be asking too much. Europa and St. Jospeh's are the final two we face.

Job done against Europa, yet still can't seem to score more than two goals a game. Europa didn't look like a team fighting from the jaws of potential relegation, we took full advantage of the game throughout. It did take us a while though before Drimmie's low drive outsmarted the keeper out of a somewhat easy save to make. Drimmie was on fire and should have added to his quantity but another low shot cracked the inside of the post and stayed out. Luckily, he turned provider to Mark Salt who was in space to gently side foot us into a two goal advantage. Five wins from our last six games? Why has this form been so dormant this season?

https://sortitoutsi.net/uploads/mirrored_images/yGQjhyaG2P5eIDusGku48HwKsgoP5A8617pTemPJ.png

With other results not going our way coupled with a negative goal difference, nothing but a win would do against St. Joseph's. Sadly, despite our best efforts we are condemned to 6th place. Mark Salt has been scintillating recently, combining once again with Kaydreon Drimmie to put us ahead. A soft penalty sent us back to the drawing board, as Khali's foul in the area allowed Michael Williams to equalise. Salt restored our lead shortly afterwards but once again Joseph's wouldn't back down and poor marking from a cross gave Romero the opportunity to balance the game once more. Second half produced little to no activity, leaving us to settle with a draw. Bitter end to a questionable season.

Mark Salt performed remarkably towards the end of the season and won the Player of the Month award for May.

RESULTS OVERVIEW

Can't say we didn't make a final push to the top places, unbeaten in the last four games and only losing one of the last seven. Mark Salt was fantastic.

Not good enough, drew too many games and didn't assert ourselves enough, not to mention we didn't once get into positive goal difference since the start if the season. Our rise came too late in the season meaning that sixth place is what we have to accept this season.

Mitchell and Salt were stalwarts in the midfield throughout the entire season and the fans certainly took a liking to it. For the second year running, Scott Mitchell was voted as the fans' player of the season just ahead of Mark Salt and Kaydreon Drimmie who was the best performing striker despite missing numerous good chances throughout the campaign. Mitchell's thunderbolt against Gibraltar United won the best goal award undoubtedly. The recruitment of Mark Salt turned out to be the best signing of the season for obvious reasons but also was the young player of the season.

https://sortitoutsi.net/uploads/mirrored_images/EcX3EWBEhmE9npAXhNo1OjkX3jHM3iOFTJ43L6fj.png

As far as stats go, some may see it sad and baffling that a central midfielder tops the goalscoring category, but Mark Salt did exactly that with 8 goals for the season along with a 7.10 average rating therefore making him the most consistent. Oddly enough, Drimmie provided the most assists as the striker with six. Scott Mitchell was our best passer with 86%, while also picking up three man of the match awards joint with Drimmie. Naranjo was the only player to be sent off for receiving two yellow cards, so nothing too wrong with discipline.

https://sortitoutsi.net/uploads/mirrored_images/yIe54NB7bDr7ObME9ZMTrcmw3hvGZvnF9HuUm682.png

Thus ends my stay at Europa Point. Sadly, I don't see us getting further than where we've come with Lincoln in force. Enjoyable job but given that this is a journeyman career, I wasn't going to waste time here.

Where to go next is the next question?

Following a seven month hiatus, I'm back in business and return to one of my favourite nations to manage in - The Faroe Islands. The club - EB/Streymur.

EB/Streymur are a hybrid club founded in 1993, formed with one of the oldest clubs in the land Eiðis Bóltfelag (1913) and neighbouring club Streymur Hvalvik.

https://sortitoutsi.net/uploads/mirrored_images/e3V9ukQpflFKduoOpQm9k8pxuxFZcK1g6kEMv19G.jpg

The club itself are based in the small village of Streymnes, who've a rough population of less than 250 and roughly lies 40km away from the Faroese capital, Tórshavn. The village is the northern part of a twin-village area separated by the river Stórá, the southern part being Hvalvík.

https://sortitoutsi.net/uploads/mirrored_images/bG97qCqWm65a00w1HXE6CXTwzmozGf0eI1FhrWH1.png

The home stadium Við Margáir shown above holds around 1,000 and is played on an artificial surface. This stadium famously played host to the first leg of the UEFA Cup First Qualifying Round tie against Manchester City back in 2008, where the likes of Dietmar Hamann, Martin Petrov, Darius Vassell and Ched Evans all participated, City won out 2-0 that night.

http://i.imgur.com/aogyMFI.png?1

Since the club's formation in 1993, they've had moderate success by winning two Effodeildin titles in 2008 and in 2012. Not only that, but lifted the Løgmanssteypið trophy four times in five seasons (2007, 2008, 2010, 2011). After this purple patch, EB/Streymur struggled to recapture that form and were relegated to the 1.deild in 2015 but returned to the top flight swiftly the season afterwards.

Let's get stuck in!

SQUAD

https://sortitoutsi.net/uploads/mirrored_images/QM7An7C7FelM3iX9IXzMpZ5i2TUM9FHSR8QQXnIO.png

A lot of pacy, strong and versatile players in this squad but lack some technical presence. Poul Poulson is probably our best player judging from attributes but still need to bolster the club just a tad. The transfer window is in full effect and a few clubs are breathing down our necks for some of our best talent.

EXPECTATIONS

https://sortitoutsi.net/uploads/mirrored_images/NizQbuZf3f0mEDsh1WkR4x2EimIqjwr0LJrceI3R.png

Upped the ante on the original expectation of avoiding relegation and chose to push for mid-table based on my knowledge and what to expect in the Faroese league. Getting to the cup quarter finals should be reachable as long as we avoid some bigger names in the pot. Very generous budgets to work with, won't need £240k that's for sure but can definitely adjust the wage budget to be in our favour.

TRANSFERS

OUT

https://sortitoutsi.net/uploads/mirrored_images/fEjpRwtwEJMiJSH5jyUacFnGrb4GgFuHNhHMUjFC.png

Absolutely ransacked on transfer deadline day, losing three important players. Benjaminsen probably the biggest loss to NSÍ (which hurts even more), Nielsen to TB and Jacobsen to HB. I'd have offered them a new deal, but their demands were up to 300%-400% more than their original deal so no dice.

IN

https://sortitoutsi.net/uploads/mirrored_images/Cs4s1ZRNzeKgPn1gKELSQKRJbLBS4CjLcYVaCXmT.png

Our business we thought was taken care of on the eve of the transfer window, however three departures meant for a hurried transfer splurge on two replacement players. I had to go on instinct as scouting at this stage was not an option.

https://sortitoutsi.net/uploads/mirrored_images/tLwXbll3f1uhjmgegYkdT4nWqgf2qVzWCHHWaRhf.png

Bárður Sørensen - ST(C) - free transfer from TB

Needed another striking option and although his technicals don't stand out, he has impressive physicals at such a young age. Bárður can definitely improve as we look to shape him into that target man role, already possessing the strength and jump he needs to win aerial battles.

https://sortitoutsi.net/uploads/mirrored_images/fyQcOg3TFJrl4bW8PTTgbdz85jsChakDEkQ8kXAY.png

Rói Sørensen - D(R) - free transfer from NSÍ

No relation to the above, Rói is the stand-in for Mýlingstind as right back (or wing back depending). Frankly, doesn't look much and probably will train with the B team often but just gives the freedom of having a short term back up until someone better bleeps onto our radar.

https://sortitoutsi.net/uploads/mirrored_images/EHnELb93NPXEa1fO1mgFn7kHF8hEMDwDKIGugQmj.png

Eyðun Joensen - AM(L)/M(L) - free transfer from Vikingur Gøta

Benjaminsen's replacement on the left, another young lad with bags of potential. Super fast on the wing could help us create some space to the byline, despite him not being an expert on crossing. Already has a lot of game time under his belt and no doubt will improve instinctively.

https://sortitoutsi.net/uploads/mirrored_images/zyFtg79Zu17ss9MTF2qGLXn643wHKFqUkmVL2ekL.png

Høgni Bech - D(C) - free transfer from ÍF

The second of two panic buys, but turned out to be business well done. On the same level as Jacobsen (moved to HB), if not more equipped for the job. The strong, bold, rocklike figure needed to keep out the opposition.

FRIENDLIES

https://sortitoutsi.net/uploads/mirrored_images/0GSqMB5QUfIH2ylvTp1i1eDEx9FKYYpJIJNzEOXQ.png

Pretty stellar pre-season, three wins against 1.deild opposition and B71 who're in the top flight. No goals conceded either.

https://sortitoutsi.net/uploads/mirrored_images/WXJsZ0QyrJ0ceb9fPGtiVlJ3Rsd527DjjoWji51r.png

Unibet expectant of us to reach the top half marginally, placing us 9-1 to win the league. However, we are 5-2 to go down also. Certainly seem to be sitting on the fence about it!

Starting life at EB/Streymur with an opening day victory against newly promoted B71, albeit needing a second half resurgence. Hit on the counter, B71 advanced ahead minutes before half time as Arnold Kristiansen was found unmarked at the back post following a deep cross. Our first goal of the season came from a B71 player as Benjaminsen's (snake) delivery hit á Steig's back and deceiving the goalkeeper to level it up. Our pressure paid off with a little help from a disorganized B71 defense as Bjarki Nielsen (snake) helped himself to tuck a rebound off the post from Jakup Olsen's deflected effort. Positive start.

https://sortitoutsi.net/uploads/mirrored_images/ZxvFipoOy8RgINAspuaBWyZU1qKZs3Ub1qiF9F1h.png

A second half goal glut stunned NSÍ in what was a very even encounter for the majority. Benjaminsen (snake) let fly early on from the edge of the D for 1-0. Mortan Olsen was a real star in this game, first making a double save from Patrik Johannesen. Another star was Poul Poulson, setting up the first and providing the second with a delicious ball over the top to cut into their defense while Bjarki Nielsen (snake) deftly brushed it into the net. Leivur Jacobsen gave NSÍ a way back into the match, conceding a penalty on the hour but as mentioned before, Mortan Olsen was a star and excellently saved to his right to keep the game at 2-0. The third came under bizarre circumstances as Benjaminsen's (snake) corner was half punched away by their keeper, only to find Rógvi Nielsen who struck an effort that the out of position 'keeper parried but too unbalanced to fully put his weight behind it. Bjarki (snake) ended any hopes of a momentous comeback, another direct ball over the top, this time provided by Andras Olsen and duly finished in the same fashion.

https://sortitoutsi.net/uploads/mirrored_images/hav5G50hru7kquOiRkJHXdwHj5PnCcAQTTmKbUse.png

The snakes slithered away, leaving us with our top assister and top goalscorer missing against hotly tipped B36. Highly against the odds, EB/Streymur took the lead with new signings Eyðun Joensen and Bárður Sørensen combining for their first contributions to the club. We began to believe as Rógvi Nielsen's cross deflected off Andrias Eriksen and suddenly we're 2-0 up before 20 minutes. Foolishly, we didn't learn from our last outing as Andrias Poulsen dragged a B36 player down in the box, but Eriksen's day went from bad to worse and his penalty was saved by Mortan Olsen. Two penalty saves out of two! B36 had the last laugh though, as the second half was dominated majorly by them. Steffan Olsen's stunning top corner strike had our knees jangling a bit, before a poorly defended corner allowed Teitur Thomsen to complete the comeback. I won't say we bottled this, but we had three points snatched here. We'll take a point.

https://sortitoutsi.net/uploads/mirrored_images/nlcAUbc3lFwYMcG9S9CoXmrI6vK89ww1KRoURfOF.png

Boy did we leave it late against TB, no less than we deserved. For all our pressure up to the hour mark, TB didn't crack, in fact went one better though a hint of fortune in it as Adrian Justinussen's looping header caught out Olsen in goal and ended up in the back of the net. Having said that, we had our own good fortune in the equaliser - Leivur Jacobsen's free kick took a swipe from the wall to help it in for 1-1 but Jacobsen will take the credit. TB began to feel the heat and with our tails up, we went for it. Two minutes to go, TB are dispossessed in the middle and we now have a four on three situation but Poul Poulsen cleverly diverted to the space on the right, floated a cross and met by the head of John Sørensen. Late drama, but our good form rolls on.

RESULTS OVERVIEW

https://sortitoutsi.net/uploads/mirrored_images/cUlXanMdiHapSGEmBwgClmC4sQbP3RI3wnFEo7qK.png

https://sortitoutsi.net/uploads/mirrored_images/udksy0AourDrN0trdOeakPVKECSsghgtUMBMWT1I.png

Always in control, even if the red card did soften them up a bit. Whole team contributed, even our four defenders, three grabbing a goal and the other providing an assist. The highlight reel was as long as your arm and could've ended in double figures for us so to save the trouble in explaining it all, we manhandled them.

The run continues.

https://sortitoutsi.net/uploads/mirrored_images/vvmv7tCI9mfGjs7DBMoUZMrTjgshFhuVh7M3YIk4.png

And that's the cue for an abrupt end. ÍF took us by surprise to edge us by the odd goal. The goal in question happened from a swift counter as we were denied by the post at one end, too many men committed forward and Bogi Poulsen calmly placed a shot underneath the advancing Mortan Olsen. Bárður Sørensen nearly pulled us level, but his one on one slid marginally wide of the right hand post. Referee awarded us a penalty on the half hour following Eyðun Joensen being pulled down to the ground. Andrias Poulsen had the chance to equalise, Niklas Thomsen had other ideas and saved to his right to keep ÍF in front. Lord knows how we didn't put the ball in the back of the net in this game, from a corner, an ÍF defender headered towards his own goal to be hacked off the line but the rebound fell to Andras Olsen who slammed the ball only into Thomsen's ribcage to maintain a clean sheet. The home faithful will be scratching their heads to wonder how on Earth we managed to lose this.

https://sortitoutsi.net/uploads/mirrored_images/cJJqTb29kGTj19oagvqoJn39Sh8RYTFsJbA1xcxn.png

(Forgot to screencap). Honeymoon period is well and truly over, Víking took their chances to crash the party 3-0. Again, superior shots with inferior execution allowing a second half blitz to occur. Eyðun Joensen playing for the first time against his former club and it was clear to see he was feeling the pressure, missing two glorious chances in the first half - missing the target from a free header and failing to put away a clear cut effort but for the keeper to keep it out. The adrenaline kicked in for the home side in the second half, Petersen found space in the box to aim a low effort past Olsen. John Sørensen had our best effort of the second half but his screamer hit the inside of the post. Ran out of steam in the last ten minutes and slack defending allowed Jákup Knudsen and H.R. Højgaard to end the game with a whimper from our side.

https://sortitoutsi.net/uploads/mirrored_images/C2ExZUh2fvS8hxVryl6DkIrPgyCFZNKQto6QXbfd.png

(Forgot to screencap - AGAIN).Now this, THIS was big. Rógvi Nielsen's floating cross was met by Leivur Jacobsen who had been heavily linked with HB beforehand and it was clear to see why, on the half volley with that left peg of his, magical way to brighten up a dull first half. Given HB's stature in the league, they didn't play at all like champions, only threatening on one occasion but Emil Johannesen's effort from 16 yards skewed harmlessly wide. Poor game but top result.

(I must've been half asleep forgetting to screencap post match). Poul Ingason reduced us to rubble, a man I knew all too well at HB, but kitted out in KÍ attire. Failing to pick up men in the box was our downfall, Karsten Petersen being one of them and scored after five minutes. Felt I needed to check our pulses out there because we were mannequins chasing shadows in the first ten minutes, Ingason getting his first on the counter, dancing his way into the area and calmly finishing for two. To our luck, KÍ's defense switched off too, allowing Poul Poulsen to rapidly reduce the arrears which could initiate a revival. Anything but, conceded a penalty from another set piece and despite Olsen guessing the right way, Ingason had ice in his veins to get his second and KÍ's third. Ingason pulled all the strings and his performance merited a hat-trick but it fizzled out to the 3-1 scoreline in the end. A rough patch for our boys.

FIRST ROUND

The phrase 'magic of the cup' is thrown around a lot these days, we almost demonstrated that against Undrið who gave us a right go. Gunleif Holm certainly proved the 'gun' namesake, like a bullet he rifled an effort from the edge of the box to stun the home crowd. Never got going in the first half, but relief on the boys' faces when the ref signaled a penalty shortly into the second half. Rógvi Nielsen made no mistake. The game took another twist as Bárður Sørensen had to come off with a concussion, having already made three subs. Going a man down, we soon went a goal down again, Gunleif Holm AGAIN (he's not even a signable player). Last roll of the dice, we needed to push forward and with a bit of luck we found an opening - two subs, Mýlingstind crossed to John Sørensen and nearly broke the back of the net to keep ourselves in the tie. Extra time commenced and underdogs Undrið cracked under pressure, left back Rógvi Nielsen turned provider to pick out a fine cross to the back stick where Leivur Jacobsen lurked and just couldn't miss. Despite being a man down, we were bailed out of jail and won it after extra time. Commiserations to the travelling Undrið support.

B71's long playing surface made it difficult for us to kill a game off which we should've won. Bárður Sørensen pounced on Eyðun Joensen's effort off the post that crept into his path for a tap in to take the lead. No sooner had I prepared my half time team notes, before Jakúp Danielsen's stoppage time equaliser from a poorly defended free kick meant I had to tear it all up. For all our creativity in the game, not one effort was noteworthy to force our way back in front. Disappointing.

https://sortitoutsi.net/uploads/mirrored_images/Gd4A9vSDL7nWdG2ZaowxBNiRlzbqzFtdJgiInfjt.png

(ugh...). Yet again pissing into the wind. NSÍ had no right to take the lead after just four minutes, Rógvi Nielsen lost his man Ólavur Mikkelsen and putting two and two together it was a soft goal to start. Bárður Sørensen was finding some proper goalscoring form, scoring in his third consecutive match - this one from a tight angle after a well crafted ball by Poul Poulson. One player we needed to be vigilant of all game was Árni Frederiksberg, outstanding right winger with a lethal right foot. 25 yard free kick, Árni stood over it, curled it over the wall and left Mortan Olsen motionless before drawing a breath. It should not have ended this way, Leivur Jacobsen was left with his head in his hands, under no pressure from a cross and dragged his header only across the face of goal. An absolute sitter the difference between one point and no points at all.

https://sortitoutsi.net/uploads/mirrored_images/JtPwzzO7TlouPd6KF1ZN6bqOJvgPBiuxihMK7BnO.png

Don't pop that champagne just yet, B36. Continuing our reputation for consistently conceding early, Davidsen's strike was followed up quickly by hitting the crossbar within the first six minutes. Weathering the storm, we had a chance to level from the spot, Rógvi Nielsen drove it home to equalise. Thereafter, the ball was in our court for the remainder of the game; Leivur Jacobsen coming closest shortly after the break after his free kick cannoned off the bar. The leaders collapsed as Mýlingstind had acres of space on the right hand side to deliver a cross where Poul Poulsen connected. 2-1 and a vital win in the title race!

https://sortitoutsi.net/uploads/mirrored_images/5XT16rCbKswiuBxZ54NOtKe6ysxeVukYAkByoXLh.png

(Last one I promise). Bárður Sørensen and co. help us to a routine win over league strugglers B68. Poul Poulson laid the first to him to comfortably dispatch into the right hand corner on the stroke of half time. The second for Sørensen will be the easiest goal he'll ever score, howler of an error by Mortan Johansen at the back for B68 as he dallied the ball too close to him and it was left for Bárður to tap it in. Jakobsen pulled one back for the visitors which might have caused the fulcrum to move slightly, however it wasn't the case as yet another penalty went our way (no, we don't hire Mike Dean for officiate) which Rógvi Nielsen made sure we were getting the three points.

https://sortitoutsi.net/uploads/mirrored_images/G9QunyKgiVxUmOtl3EJvJ2Qjs80i7zyeCGfCq626.png

Ah. Peaking in goalscoring form, of course he's done his groin. The worst part? It's in fact four months, not 6-7 weeks! Damn it SI!

QUARTER FINALS

Shortly after our league encounter with B71, we locked horns again in the cup a week later. Dispossessed in the middle, John Sørensen lumped a ball forward finding Bárður Sørensen who cheekily lobbed the advancing keeper for 1-0. Bárður once again looked on fire and so nearly made it 2-0 but for his point blank header clawed onto the post and behind by keeper, Klæment Olsen. Second half complacency almost got the better of us, B71 had two great chances to bring the game to extra time, Andras Olsen at the back put a last ditch challenge in to deny Margeir Toftegaard a certain goal and substitute Johan Hansen headered over from a deep corner. Learned our lesson to see the game out and to seal a semi final bout.

Oh, bother. We were not comfortable in this game at all, two defensive first half errors almost cost us dearly but for backup keeper Jákup Hansen to stand firm. For the third game running, we won ourselves a penalty but this time Rógvi Nielsen saw his penalty saved by Heðin Stenberg. From that point onwards, the game dissipated into nothingness. AB held firm to deny us the crucial away goal required to give us the highground for the second leg.

The summer transfer window for Faroese clubs opened midway through June, gaining two new signatures as the deadline closes in July. Both players will look to add depth and prospect to our squad.

https://sortitoutsi.net/uploads/mirrored_images/Ol2OTMarEpxegF2eV5OOxZd1gToGnLKbrt1gKZZ0.png

Jákup Knudsen - ST(C) - free transfer from Víkingur Gøta

With Bárður Sørensen sidelined, a new striker had to be headhunted. Jákup has found the net against us already this season and was an ideal candidate; tall, strong, mentally capable and has a gifted skull with heading, finishing and jumping reach. At 19, this lad has a promising learning curve.

https://sortitoutsi.net/uploads/mirrored_images/ZJ2kDpO7Z8jIZL54W2jRwqy9tsyMKqC5d6wzVvNM.png

Gunnar Joensen - M(C) - unattached free agent

What a find from our scouts! Let go by HB at the end of last season, somehow nobody thought to earmark this guy. Though his technicals aren't up to par, physicals look impressive with good stamina and work rate. Already 4* potential so won't be long before perhaps reaching his 5* potential in his early twenties.

Leivur Jacobsen has the key to the city, an injury time winner securing us victory at TB. Wonderful passing play led to his first, 15 uninterrupted passes worked from the center of midfield, to the left hand byline to the right hand edge of the area where Jacobsen placed one underneath the body of Casper Radza. TB came back firing before the half ended, Albinus' effort hit the underside of the crossbar and somehow didn't cross the line. End to end in the second half, Adrian Justinussen took a touch too far in the box and his shot was blocked by goalkeeper Hansen. Then a hurtful moment, long lobbed ball from their defense met by the run of the mercenary, Bjarki Nielsen to finish against his former club to level and almost won them the game in the last five minutes but for Hansen to push it out for a corner. It was us who had the last laugh, again another beautiful passing link-up play from midfield and Leivur opened his body to unleash a thunderbolt to nearly break the net. What a way to win a game of football.

https://sortitoutsi.net/uploads/mirrored_images/PgkVozsk7Ft3EwzWLU4zf55AE4UdIDZ6HfytRY6X.png

ÍF beat us in our own back garden 1-0 in the last meeting, this time the roles reversed in a pretty humdrum affair. Half of their team picking up yellow cards meaning a very stop-start game which produced only one highlight of note, Poul Poulsen hacked in the area and Rógvi Nielsen held his nerve to grab what proved to be the winning goal. Leivur Jacobsen nearly added to the lead but struck an effort into the chest of the keeper. Minimal action but I'll take a boring 1-0 win any day.

Our final league fixture before a month's break landed us away to HB in an important six pointer near the top. Both teams had good efforts to break the deadlock, Poul Poulsen forcing a terrific stop by Tobias Gestsson while at the other end John Joensen missed a sitter as he went through on goal but failed to even hit the target. They may have rued that miss as debutant Gunnar Joensen came back to haunt his former club by setting up Eyðun Joensen to curl one into the top right hand corner. It went from bad to worse for the league holders only two minutes after the restart as Poulsen drove low from Leivur Jacobsen's cross to double the tally and put us in dreamland. HB just had no response and succumbed to a second defeat to our side this season.

Professional job in the second leg and we march onto a cup final! The midfield duo of Markus Clementsen and Andrias Poulsen being the unlikely difference to the success. Knudsen made his debut from the bench and registered one or two efforts not far away. Rógvi Nielsen's o.g. perhaps spooked the home crowd who were now worried that a second goal for AB would give them the edge on away goals but if I'm perfectly honest, they didn't look like goalscoring threats. Onwards!

Returning after our mini holiday, we failed to break down Viking. So easily let down by early goals these days, Ísak Simonsen added to that list by heading in from the first corner of the game within four minutes. The response was positive, Jákup Knudsen starting his full debut against his former club and nearly gave them a souvenir but headed over from six yards. Another former Viking player though, Eyðun Joensen, did show what they're missing as a beautifully deep floated cross found Leivur Jacobsen free at the back stick (though straying a fraction offside IMO) to pull level. End to end in the second half, Knudsen scuppered an effort straight at the keeper, while Egilsson at the other end had Hansen at full stretch. In the end, a point was probably the fairest result.

KÍ's direct style hurt us once again, horror show stuff. It's rare I sub a goalkeeper and a centre back in the first half but our defence had a shocker. Completely misses a punch for the first from a free kick to leave a free header for René Jacobsen, second lays blame on Bech who missed the aerial to invite Poul Ingason for a stroll into our box for 2-0 and the third again found Bech as the single point of failure as another direct ball went over him and a carbon copy finish from Ingason, only this time rounding the keeper for humiliation. Gunnar Nielsen didn't help matters by receiving a red in the second half but Eyðun Joensen did give us that small glimmer of hope. Sadly, we were left in darkness again as a stealthy free kick and lack of concentration or organisation allowed Johan Jacobsen to put the game out of reach. Miserable faces surrounded the Við Margáir stadium, except for the gloating away end.

Pessimistically prepared for the top of the table clash away to B36 and came out as runaway winners in a sublime second half spectacle. Happy to retain possession in the first half, we actually looked more likely to score; B36 conceded 12 corners before the 25th minute but kept us at bay. Not sure if my telekinesis skills influenced the second half but my word we looked like a completely fearless side in the second half. Tempted to sub Knudsen off at half time for the returning Bárður Sørensen, but I had faith in him to do the business and did so within two minutes, half volleying from a header down from a corner. Markus Clementsen hit a screamer to add to the quantity before Knudsen coolly placed an effort from 12 yards from Jákup Olsen's cross to gain us some indispensable points. The title race is on!

http://i.imgur.com/aPZUz3k.png?1

B36 slipped up on the Saturday before our Sunday fixture at home to bottom of the rung B68 knowing a win would return us to the top. Not sure whether we were complacent or just nerve-janglingly cautious because we were weren't convincing in the first half. Only for Eyðun Joensen to be pulled back in the area, a penalty may settle the nerves - Rógvi Nielsen taking honours to ensure we went in in front at the break. In fact it could have been 2-0 straight after the pen, Knudsen missed a huge opportunity nodding wide from no more than four yards out. Business as usual in the second half, Eyðun Joensen doubling the advantage thanks to Poul Poulsen's through ball. Of course, B68 did need to play for survival and Andras Olsen missed a crucial interception for an easy goal back for the visitors. The pendulum wasn't going to swing in B68's favour though as Eyðun Joensen and Poul Poulsen's roles were reversed - Joensen unselfishly squaring to Poulsen for a 3-1 victory. Teamwork.

Narrow margins are always the hardest to hold onto, but NSÍ lacked firepower while we took the game by the scruff of the neck. Rógvi Nielsen missing an early penalty could've summarised how our day would turn out. Jákup Knudsen scuppering the chance to tap into an empty net nearly further proved it. Markus Clementsen had other ideas, his free kick clipped the wall and refracted into the goal. Clementsen was the game changed and nearly made it two from two free kicks, smooching the postage stamp from 20 yards. Hansen in our goal hadn't much to do, swatting away NSÍ's only effort on target from league's top scorer Patrik Johannesen. Three wins on the bounce.

HB were another side creeping in the outside lane just behind ourselves and B36, so this win here was essential. This was preparation for the Løgmanssteypið cup final in three days. Talk about a blistering start from our boys with Bárður Sørensen returning to the scoresheet to finish from close range past Teitur Gestsson. Ten minutes later, breathtaking short passing play split HB's defence open to allow Eyðun Joensen to slip through the crack and bury a second. HB just couldn't handle us on the day, Eyðun Joensen shortly after the restart delivered the final blow to give us a stupefying 3-0 win. Perpetual confidence.

This was a cup final for the ages....however it wasn't us celebrating it. Gave it our absolute all, scoring some sensational goals to lead three times to hold a 3-2 lead at half time. Defensively, we were barren and let in some cheap goals and ultimately collapsed under Esteban Besnard's winning goal to cap off a true cup winning hat-trick. In retrospect we'll rue some of the chances we missed in the game but HB got their revenge and lift the Løgmanssteypið trophy. With our two best centre backs suspended for this game, we had to resort to a makeshift three at the back with an accompanying defensive midfielder to protect - it didn't work. Víking expoited the wide areas for the first goal, allowing a well crafted cross to be met by Búi Egilsson. Never looked remotely close to scoring, Hansen had the bulk of the work out of the goalkeepers, saving Egilsson's one on one shortly after the restart. Our left back Nielsen playing at centre back was at fault for the second, dallying on the ball and easily dispossessed by man of the match Egilsson to pile the misery on our gutless performance.

KÍ are the kryptonite of our season so far, but thankfull this time we didn't get spanked, in fact we notched up a vital point. Poul Ingason was well isolated (or so we thought) and still managed to feed a cross into John Olsen for a simple opener and feared the worst was to come. Ingason popped us and should have made it two, broke free of the defense with just Hansen to beat but choked and dragged his shot wide. In complete isolation from getting forward, set pieces were our only hope and Andras Olsen headed in from a corner to earn us a magnanimous point.

The run in sees us face TB at home, ÍF away and on the final day against B71 at home. Not a tricky run in but B36 have two Friday fixtures to put under a bit of pressure to achieve results. HB have an outside chance and would require one or both teams to slip up at least once or twice. Goal difference may be our greatest difficulty because despite us being two points clear and affording to draw one of the games, it'll put our GD behind B36 should they win their last three games. Number of potential scenarios, let the title race commence.

Advantage B36 following a convincing win over ÍF and leap into first with 47 points. Goal difference looks like it may be difficult to match.

However the pendulum swings in our favour following a pretty routine win over TB. Largely took control of the game, more creativity and far more possession capped off with Bárður Sørensen scoring against his former employers following a delightful pass from Poul Poulsen. Sørensen had the opportunity to double his tally in the last ten minutes, only for a world class save from Casper Radza to keep it away. One down, two to go and return two points ahead of B36.

HB aren't giving up a late comeback, defeating KÍ 3-1 and keeping themselves four points behind us. May not even matter should we win our next game.

Holy smokes was this intense, fingernails bitten down to the nub. Eyðun Joensen and Bárður Sørensen structured a 2-0 lead before twenty minutes had elapsed and had the away stand in raptures, the belief of a first Effodeildin title in 13 years was in our grasp. Didn't overcomplicate the half time team talk, despite murmurs from the crowd hearing that B36 were being held by B71 - blank minds and just see out the final 45 minutes. ÍF also had survival to fight for so they weren't going to lie down and let us get on with it. Torstein Mýlingstind made the task a lot tougher, dismissed from a second booking. Unsurprisingly the game became a lot more open and were punished hard as a poorly defended corner allowed Teitur Djurhuus a second bite of the cherry and had us biting our nails. It was backs to the wall, ÍF went 3-4-3 and drove us deeper and deeper into our own half, Hervé Din Din should have equalised but the gloves of Hansen were trustworthy as ever to keep the scoreline in our favour. The sound of the final whistle was music to our ears.

https://sortitoutsi.net/uploads/mirrored_images/nalN45dWw6PYeKlIF5K0wsxjj4PHX7o3VRtVOjN4.png

Despite a shady start, Bárður has been instrumental in a number of goals this season and converted more than any other EB/Streymur player (asterisk).

What happened though elsewhere?

https://sortitoutsi.net/uploads/mirrored_images/K1PT5FUPjlw8y1RghcBR3NlkRgWo04wy7ekfk5L0.png

B71 collapsed and collapsed hard to see relegation to the 1.deild and hand B36 one final chance to crash the party. HB are out of the question for the title despite winning at Víking.

B36 had the early game of the weekend at home to B68, knowing only a win would keep their hopes alive.

A win was what had been required to guarantee the Effodeildin and fell short against B71. Complacent way to end the season, the visitors looked sharp and had no pressure on them to succeed whereas we had everything to lose. Rógvi Nielsen was in la la land and carelessly dallied for too long, allowing Rói Klementsen to force an early stop from Mortan Olsen who came in for the final game. Scoreless at the break, B71 kickstarted the second into motion and Klementsen redeemed himself to deservedly give them the lead. Should have been 2-0 shortly after, Arnold Kristiansen bringing Olsen into a save again and we were up against the ropes. After too many wild efforts going astray, one finally made a difference - Jakúp Olsen came on for the injured Leivur Jacobsen and pumped a long ball into the box where centre back Andras Olsen headed home. Relief on the home crowd faces. Not the best way to end the season.

So, where did that leave us?

EB/STREYMUR BRING HOME THE BACON! Breaking the curse of going 13 years without a trophy, the Effodeildin belongs to us this year. Predicted to finish seventh, I've exceeded the expectations dramatically with our faithful squad. Two points ahead of B36, four ahead of HB, all in all an outstanding season and the board are and I quote "ecstatic".

END OF SEASON AWARDS

https://sortitoutsi.net/uploads/mirrored_images/YZn2DKNZgyVtFXA0n5bBZekscCDFntHmKBd9aphR.png

Think some of our fans need their heads checked as Bárður Sørensen got no mention in this season's award which is almost a crime. Poul Poulsen didn't even make the top three of the fans' player of the season either. Rógvi Nielsen didn't exactly shine this season which is baffling to see him pick up the award ahead of Markus Clementsen and Andras Olsen. Poul Poulsen's wonder goal in the cup final unsurprisingly was the goal of the season. Jákup Knudsen took signing of the season which is also quite baffling as he didn't set the world alight when he came in in June. Leivur Jacobsen scooped young player of the season, probably deservedly so - rate him quite highly.

https://sortitoutsi.net/uploads/mirrored_images/UpxrrGTdTxY0tNI7NcejNibheZobUa4J6wUDotdU.png

Sørensen was the only player to get into double digits for goals this season, including a three month injury layoff. Markus Clementsen I mentioned previously was the unsung hero of our side, superb performances in midfield towards the end of the season. Poul Poulsen nearly left in July, but thankfully stayed here to provide those 10 assists and a stellar 88% pass completion, plus four man of the match awards. Discipline was a slight worry, especially Andrias Poulsen notching up eight yellow cards. Mylingstind and Gunnar Joensen were the only two to be sent off.

With the groundwork laid out, the upgrade of our training facilities will be completed by April next year.

https://sortitoutsi.net/uploads/mirrored_images/QHQMLvArRjoZw3pQfVgYQPzeoMMwzB1fD8tlIwU9.png

Also exciting news as we've now got links with Norwegian side Bodø/Glimt who'll provide an annual sum to our club, not to mention we may leech off some of their younger players should they come on loan to us.

Finally, I've found time in my calendar to study the Continental A License which may mean I'll spend another year at EB/Streymur.

A mini clearout of the squad, Arnar Dam one of the notable exits. Andrias Poulsen sadly departs to NSÍ as we couldn't match his demands and finds a new home. Sad, but in truth I think he'll be as good as he'll get at 28, doubtful he'd make any more progress at our club.

IN

https://sortitoutsi.net/uploads/mirrored_images/lD8tWxo2vXG1lM57MI8SXBUuu6wUpUU7sT5HrayN.png

Number of ins to restock the squad. Very promising free transfers coming in plus two in from relegated B68.

https://sortitoutsi.net/uploads/mirrored_images/ZN0TsP8IbK5IJxgRTyMmcGiJzopIMBWWqKJWeZKH.png

Kári Hentze - AM(C) - unattached free agent

What a talent this guy could become. Almost a cookie cut out of Poulsen bar his physical stats, but more technically gifted. Mentals leave a lot to be desired but he's only 17 already at 2* CA.

https://sortitoutsi.net/uploads/mirrored_images/X73c0P8xSPkcZ2jDsGB9kJHyeob2PUU1H6lWNCj6.png

Atli Davidsen - GK - unattached free agent

Previously of HB, my first reaction was not to invest in a new keeper...until I saw his cracking physicals. Looks a beastly 6'2" figure who'll certainly rival with Hansen for the first choice - perhaps leaving Mortan Olsen surplus.

https://sortitoutsi.net/uploads/mirrored_images/uDPSYWvlyNtuU5ypGFLRenWJcXCsKnOynHyTtHwL.png

Esmar P. Clementsen - DM/M(C)/D(RC)/M(R) - free transfer from B68

I think we've found a great set piece taker in Esmar. Not only that, he's more a defensive minded player to partner either Gunnar Joensen or Markus Clementsen. Very versatile, not too old, still possesses reasonable physicals. May fit into our season here and there.

https://sortitoutsi.net/uploads/mirrored_images/0eEH5qzDckXyaTPjyf5Nho3IFZYyefRoUjQCjY9K.png

Albert Róin Johannesen - D(L)/D(RC) - free transfer from B68

It's hard to find worthy defenders in the Faroe Islands, Albert fills in as the replacement defender for fatigued or injured first team members. Can play left, right or centre so less need for multiple defenders on the bench. Decent physicals but not the most impressive capture.

https://sortitoutsi.net/uploads/mirrored_images/CiNBc4E7U9PpDEQ75vicBSWdSi4CxrFE4pk6Bwu0.png

Santos - GK - unattached free agent

Why another 'keeper? Impulse buy. 18, Brazilian and packs quite a bit of potential in my opinion. The mentals at 18 are an encouraging sign with already decent technicals and physicals to back it up. May bring some Brazilian flair (even with 1 flair) but may develop in the B team for now.

So just to refresh your memories, we were predicted to finish in the lower half of the table, yet defied the odds to win the Effodeildin and unsurprisingly were listed as the overachievers for last season. Are the bookies thinking twice about our ambitions for the forthcoming season?

Board expecting only top half this season which is fine by me, semi finals of the Løgmanssteypið doable too but this year I want my hands clenched around the handles. Super cup as well to look forward to. Budgets are slashed due to the upgrading of our training facilities but shouldn't matter if we invest it more towards the wage budget.

EB/Streymur take the super cup! I don't want to gloss over what an abysmal game that needed that one catalyst, and what a catalyst it was. Neither team really threatened, however HB did have a goal disallowed in the first half for a glaring offside against Jákup Joensen. Eyðun Joensen had the best chance for us to break the deadlock but his effort rebounded off the post. Esmar P. Clementsen replaced Gunnar Joesen in the 57th minute and sparked the game into life in the last fifteen minutes, ball fell loose to him on the edge of the area and BANG! drilled with venom, low and hard past Gestsson. If that was good enough, the second was even better, curling a gem of a free kick from 25 yards to seal the deal.

Wow, an abhorrent opening day performance somehow merited with us walking away with a point at KÍ. Caught in midfield, we were subject of being countered and Høgni Bech decides to win the ball then play a horrendous back pass leading to Poul Ingason saying thank you very much for 1-0. We weren't even coming close to getting a foothold and should have been six feet under as John Olsen somehow missed from three yards to the relief of Atli Davidsen. The equaliser was comical, somehow René Jacobsen headed in an o.g. when facing goalwards, almost suspiciously bizarre goal (match fixing). Let's hope it's not a sign of things to forthcome this season.

https://sortitoutsi.net/uploads/mirrored_images/VVAOjhHjzFw0XePIhimuo5UsN6RCBohGxbUIZEEJ.png

First win on the board courtesy of a Jákup Knudsen brace at home to promoted AB. On the counter, Eyðun Joensen's deep cross evaded all the defenders, allowing a tap in for Knudsen's first. The second was a little bit fortuitous, but keeper Stenberg made a meal of it as Knudsen headed in from 18 yards, didn't even have that much power but Stenberg completely misjudged it. Eyðun Joensen could've added to the party but headed over from a tight angle. More familiar territory.

https://sortitoutsi.net/uploads/mirrored_images/hbmMMqYaVBufI9lZFBcVlX5JJ13lc6PnVy1kALps.png

Paid a hefty price in the last quarter to succumb to our first defeat of the season, both coming from set pieces. Bárður Sørensen opened his account for the new year thanks to well crafted ball control and passing in their area. Atli Davidsen was busy for the B36 reprisal, saving well from Rasmus Sorensen and then a header from the resulting corner from Meinhardt Thomsen. Frustratingly enough within the same highlight, Leivur Jacobsen stupidly hacked down Sørensen needlessly in the area to give B36 a penalty. Davidsen dived the wrong way, allowing the recipient of the penalty Rasmus Sørensen to level. How we may rue what happened in the last five minutes, firstly Bárður Sørensen crucially missed the target from a cross that missed everyone in the area before the kick in the gonads as Pætur Petersen's free kick flew into the net in the 88th minute. I don't want to say we bottled it, but we definitely bottled it.

https://sortitoutsi.net/uploads/mirrored_images/XaVZM63e7oMza59vzt5A3HRQWFmqjJdsrI5l5NFq.png

We just don't learn do we? 50 seconds was all it took to find the net from Eyðun Joensen, that was about as good as it got in the first half. Second half we completely shut down, two similar instances to allow Jón Jacobsen to dismantle our lead - long, direct balls...our centre backs just can't deal with them. Eirikur Ellendersen added insult to injury from a corner and put us in a sticky predicament already this season.

Are we just incapable of winning games this season? So many wasted chances. The crossbar came to TB's rescue on two occasions - one from a dipping Esmar P. Clementsen freekick who bounced on the line and Jákup Knudsen's header also rattled the upright. Of course we almost shot ourselves in the foot as TB had a goal ruled out for offside but the game ended all square, much to our displeasure and frustration.

https://sortitoutsi.net/uploads/mirrored_images/BdNLIZf70bkJcASNqvVv8WoRA4lkJAhZshd5ckMa.png

Much more like it, breezing past 07 Vestur and a first hat-trick for Bárður Sørensen. Proper target man finishes for the first two, feeding off crosses from Mýlingstind and then Eyðun Joensen. Høgni Bech is really having a jittery season, and almost gave the home side the opportunity to make a game of it, dallying on the ball before losing it but thankfully redeeming himself with the last ditch challenge. Gunnar Joensen came on the field in the 75th minute and by the 87th minute he was heading straight to the dressing room following a straight red card. Absolutely ridiculous. Luckily, 07 Vestur didn't particularly test Davidsen in goal and Sørensen grabbed his first EB/Streymur hat-trick in injury time to walk away with the match ball.

https://sortitoutsi.net/uploads/mirrored_images/4A4exMYxADwIjOcHNWLeMS2axdEWgBbX1gsAcue9.png

Momentum slowly starting to build, HB were the next team to fall. Bárður Sørensen again on the scoresheet following a through pass by Poul Poulsen to rifle the ball into the top corner within 90 seconds. The response was unconvincing and only threatened from long range efforts which Hansen scooped up with ease. We created a few more chances but couldn't find the end product to kill the game off. HB were reduced to ten men as Teit Jacobsen picked up a second yellow but surprisingly kick started HB into life and their best chance came from a corner shortly after, Aladin Sasic bringing a top drawer save from Hansen to keep it out. 1-0 the final score and starting to find rhythm again.

https://sortitoutsi.net/uploads/mirrored_images/iUaYy8NNzm2pcWToKyVrzD6UEJXM9ZMIDbj1q1EF.png

It did come at a price, Magnusson hobbled off shortly after the second half began. Looks like Bech will have to come back in.

https://sortitoutsi.net/uploads/mirrored_images/QOoSL3n3MgJv9h59zliDh2XOEdkFz5nd9fTpgjdo.png

Baffling, truly baffling how we couldn't even score against ten men for over 75 minutes. Árni Frederiksberg, an absolute Adonis to the league sent off for a two footed challenge and boosted our chances immensely in theory. In practice, we fell apart too easily to concede a clumsy goal straight from their keeper's kickout - Ari Mohr Olsen was unmarked and not closed down well enough to pass the ball beyond Jákup Hansen in goal. The ten men weren't under major threat as we couldn't sculpt anything noteworthy, Bárður Sørensen had a really bad day at the office. Our best chance came from an ambitious effort from 30 yards hit by Markus Clementsen that pinged back off the crossbar to save NSÍ's skin in the remaining five minutes. Embarrassing, farcical defeat.

https://sortitoutsi.net/uploads/mirrored_images/do3lOvQGJJNmSjzlw55V8j9dcfHXZpo1m3x0YeIs.png

At least we bounced back with a well fought win against a Víking side whom I've not beaten in my tenure so far. Thankfully, Víking were rotting at the bottom of the table and lost 8-2 earlier in the season to HB. In typical fashion, the visitors looked the more dangerous - Haraldur Højgaard on the break finished just inches wide of the post, while Hansen was at full stretch to deny Jarnskor from a corner. Bárður Sørensen found space from an Eyðun Joensen pass to convert his 5th goal in 4 games just before the interval. That goal seemed to take the wind out of Víking's sail and before they knew it, Bárður doubled the lead from a terrific cross from Leivur Jacobsen. First win over Víking at the fourth attempt.

https://sortitoutsi.net/uploads/mirrored_images/nHYZwNrTPg3XE51BmFMAgHFcMHmaptkUjrnPrTdY.png

HOLD THE PHONES! Did we actually gain back to back wins against sides who usually sh*t on us? We've never beaten KÍ in 10 attempts (3 in my tenure anyways), but set the record straight but I'll be the first to admit we rode our luck big time. Bárður Sørensen is just a goal machine lately, burst with pace to cut inside on the left channel at finished wonderfully at the near post, keeper should have done better. This match wouldn't be without a goal from Poul Ingason and just like a scheduled train, he arrived right on time to equalise where our keeper should've got to it too. Six minutes later, the lead was restored against the run of play as Rógvi Nielsen's cross from the left was finished this time by Leivur Jacobsen. At this moment we just needed to sit back and preserve the lead, however Bárður Sørensen had other ideas and almost bagged a third for us but his effort went inches wide as we led at the break. Were we going to crack under pressure? Luckily we got KÍ on a bad day, they threatened but didn't finish well. Páll Klettskarð came closest but his low shot was pounced on by Hansen. A win of bragging rights more than the three points.

This month was all about Bárður Sørensen - 9 goals in 6 games this month and looking so confident. Lot more wins on the board now in the league despite that cockup against NSÍ. Overall a real improvement.

Still quite a distance from B36 but we continue to ebb away the deficit. Up to third now following that shaky start is progress.

One way traffic although it did take us some time to get going. Ellingsgaard's straight red card allowed us to push on but as noted from previous experience, it gives a false sense of security. Sluggish first half with nothing really to shout about. In fact the only proper highlight was the goal from Mýlingstind, which is a rarity but took it so well to drill it low from a clearance by the AB defence. The home side didn't manage a single shot on goal, either a sign of domination or simply just incompetence from both sides.

And for the first time this season, we go top, putting our foot firmly down on our title rivals B36. A 12 pass phase allowed us to manoeuvre into the B36 bunker, Poul Poulsen applying the finish for 1-0. Our counteracting plays continuously put the visitors under severe pressure, they couldn't get a sniff of the ball and before they knew it, Leivur Jacobsen doubled the advantage again from short passes and a through ball from Esmar Clementsen. Andras Olsen had the opportunity to put clear blue water between the sides but his header was palmed away. B36 failed to live up to expectations and their only good chance came with six minutes to go but substitute Elias Petersen hit the bar. We also hit the bar...after the match as we make it five consecutive wins in all competitions.

https://sortitoutsi.net/uploads/mirrored_images/8T7kC9NGrIYqXmhqBzKwiFd7wnXN4xwJR5UjZRW3.png

A fightback proved to be wasted effort, losing to TB in the cruelest of circumstances. Andras Olsen had no other choice but to concede a penalty following a breakaway goalscoring opportunity (luckily not the last man) and Rógvi Joensen stepped up to fire TB ahead. After pushing forward for an equaliser, TB broke forward yet again and Kári Midjord rounded keeper Hansen for 2-0 after truly questionable defending. Jákup Knudsen reduced the arrears shortly the half time whistle to fuel belief going into the dressing room. Second half we fought hard, Casper Radza in the TB goal had lots to do and with five minutes to go they finally cracked under pressure, ball fell to Rógvi Nielsen to place it low into the bottom left corner to complete the comeback. Little did we know that TB had a sucker punch lined up; started from their own penalty area cleared the ball up and broke for a third time and Midjord kept his cool to sink us once and for all. So many rued chances, inexcusable defeat based on how we defensively line up.

Thankfully, we didn't lose control but it was painful sitting through these 90 minutes against ÍF. A game that offered little to no quality, it did however have one key turning factor - replacing Leivur Jacobsen with Jákup Olsen in the 86th minute. Olsen was the game changer, but the chance was gift wrapped by ÍF goalkeeper Niklas Thomsen after spilling a catch from Bech's cross straight into Olsen's path for a late winner. How important could those three points be?

So we are now without a natural recognised striker for our next league game, both Knudsen and Sørensen picking up injuries. Minor problem but still a problem.

Step forward, Poul Poulsen. Playing as the lone striker against 07 Vestur, he did his job and again leaving it late to do so. Should have been finished long before the 81st minute, Esmar Clementsen brought a save and a half from their keeper who tipped it onto the post and away. Another defensive mishap paved way for the inevitable goal, Kári Hentze floated a long ball towards Poulsen who'd been tracked down between two defenders but both of them missed it and Poulsen applied the finish. We'll take a scrappy 1-0 win over a frustrating draw.

So often NSÍ have been a thorn in our side and yet again stung. Bárður Sørensen returned to the line up and thought he had put us in front early on but the linesman's flag was up and the goal was ruled out. The rest of the game was set out to be ours, Esmar Clementsen hit the bar from a free kick, Eyðun Joensen's header from point blank range was saved by Rasmussen onto the post and himself again hit the post with the follow up. Fatally, we pushed for the goal too hard and left ourselves exposed on the counter as Ari Olsen breezed through to give NSÍ the lead. When will we learn to put away chances and kill games off before something stupid happens? Man of the match: the goalposts.

QUARTER FINAL

Hook me up to a blood pressure monitor and the readings would be off the charts. HOW. DID. WE. NOT. WIN?! Víking were garbage for the majority of the game and were eating out of the palm of our hands. Dominated for 73 minutes before a sweaty goal, free kick launched into the area, bit of penalty box pinball and fell to Breckmann who almost in slow motion rolled the ball home. We had to overload; Sørensen missed a gilt edged opportunity sprayed wide, Knudsen headered onto the crossbar but finally wiped the sweat off our foreheads as Sørensen hammered home a 20 yard punt after Knudsen marvelously controlled a header down to his path and give us extra time to stew over. Búi Egilsson had other ideas than to let us win, so easily get breached on the counter and Breckmann was at the heart of their second as he slipped down the right channel to cross for Egilsson to break our hearts for the second time in the game. Unjust win for the visitors, but we knew that we let ourselves down. No cup glory for another year.

We've earned some well deserved time off following a maelstrom of a month. Four wins and three losses with a plethora of different goalscorers. June is a rest month as we prepare for the Champions League qualifiers when it restarts.

As with last year, we decided to improve board expectations and this year went with the same approach. Budgets remain largely the same, but the wage budget is now up to £10k available. Sadly I doubt we could attract some kind of player to spend it on.

Didn't feel there was any need to improve the squad, but managed to retrieve one new signing. Jákup Olsen though has left the club by mutual consent due to not getting enough game time, not a big loss considering he's 31 and Leivur Jacobsen is in need of as much first team football as possible to develop and reach his potential.

Gabriel - M(R) - free transfer from Tiradentes (CE)

Second Brazilian import to the Faroe Islands in Gabriel via his agent trying to offload him to a new club. Another fast paced player and a handy backup to Jacobsen. At 18 he doesn't look like the finished product and doubtful that he'll reach past three stars during his career span but certainly someone useful to call upon.

MID-SEASON FRIENDLIES

Blowing away the cobwebs for our upcoming UEFA Champions League adventures, rattled down three sides quite comfortably including our second team. Target practice for our boys.

UEFA CHAMPIONS LEAGUE

FIRST QUALIFYING ROUND DRAW

https://sortitoutsi.net/uploads/mirrored_images/ypYhtW3aRzTFFoRS9n1Ci6OP7rDYONNTTU9GzTLB.png

A familiar foe in Andorran bulldozers, Lusitans. Home for the first leg which may give us the upper hand in terms of getting away goals or on the flip side to just end them in the first leg with home advantage.

1QR FIRST LEG

https://sortitoutsi.net/uploads/mirrored_images/23zTy9cgBB22pqsPrkgdWi22Ue41cbt6g31XOoj7.png

Not sure what it is about us failing to put away games we clearly dominate, Lusitans didn't look like snatching an away goal. Bárður Sørensen skewed a header awkwardly wide when he should have hit the target and Leivur Jacobsen had one of those FM moments in an overhit cross coming back off the crossbar. Clean slate going away to Andorra.

1QR SECOND LEG

https://sortitoutsi.net/uploads/mirrored_images/mIfYFb5FJXdMQ0np91yaxXC3a8A4Y4df61Y9R6DB.png

Away goals were the determining factor is what turned out to be a very plucky second half performance by the Andorrans against the odds. A scramble in the box obviously caught the referee's eye as he awarded a penalty for us (somewhat dubious) to put us in the driving seat. Rógvi Nielsen made no mistake. Nielsen had a hand in us grabbing a second through Leivur Jacobsen which would probably settle the tie. Lusitans started brightly in the second half however a counter attack sprung us forward and Gunnar Joensen got on the end of an Eyðun Joensen cut back for 3-0 and three away goals. It didn't halt Lusitans' efforts and showed proper cavalier attitude to fight back to 3-3, however they couldn't pull off a Barcelona on it.

SECOND QUALIFYING ROUND DRAW

https://sortitoutsi.net/uploads/mirrored_images/TgX8uQzc03WMnIgolekkKNGSRLr3VipLq5CZDzmq.png

Swedish champions IFK Göteborg are the reward, certainly relishing it. We're at home for the first leg.

2QR FIRST LEG

https://sortitoutsi.net/uploads/mirrored_images/Kj6q4TRr9eCPgiokL0afdwG7So5b8LnSnwns4pEQ.png

Despite losing, Atli Davidsen did a bloody good job holding it to 1-0 and even that only came from a penalty awarded which Enerås duly converted. 17 shots on target for the visitors and could have ended in ugly fashion, Olufela Olomola pulling all the strings for the Swedes. We had chances of our own that we couldn't take, Pontus Dalhberg did enough to hold a clean sheet. Fair result and our exit is probably fast tracked.

https://sortitoutsi.net/uploads/mirrored_images/7p1PfeYREi3jA3Ui1YDWeEGaUf0tGmWhelpV7H61.png

We brought in nearly 4,500 people (roughly 2000 away fans) plus £75k in gate receipts, granted it wasn't our stadium but fairly impressive for a nation with only 50,000 population.

2QR SECOND LEG

https://sortitoutsi.net/uploads/mirrored_images/QXpuR2yI7OKgxjp1SqJ0MQiAoUm0c8wwl4lSvpa6.png

Who goes in two footed on a player just three minutes into a game? Ripped into Eyðun Joensen after a humiliating second leg where we just showed no character or hope. Five down at the break, it was a miracle it didn't break into double figures. Olomola getting a 15 minute hat-trick followed by Wilhelmsson, Enerås and the cherry on top being an own goal from Rógvi Nielsen. A proper disaster in Sweden. Six to nothing and a 7-0 aggregate defeat.

Back to work in the league, grabbing a vital win at HB with the tale of two penalties. HB were up to play on the day, controlling the first half where Jákup Joensen should have scored for them. The man in question was then pulled back in the area by Mýlingstind and Besnard showing his love for playing against EB/Streymur with a goal on the stroke of half time. HB looked like doubling their lead with an attack in our area but managed to clear it for a counter attack and ultimately led to the second penalty call of the afternoon as Bárður Sørensen was fouled by Mikkelsen. Rógvi Nielsen brought the game level and the wind was firmly in our sails. Bárður Sørensen was the hero of the hour, heading in off the post seven minutes later and ensuring the victory was heading in our direction.

Not much change in the table, but now build a six point cushion ahead of HB in third. Still only the one point separates us and B36.
