Q. How do I install the Adboard Patch?
1. Extract the contents of the rar folder to your desktop.
2. Move the ads folder to the following directory: My Documents /Sports Interactive/Football Manager 2017/graphics/pictures. This will now give you the following directory: My Documents/Sports Interactive/Football Manager 2017/graphics/pictures/ads.
3. Open up the My Documents /Sports Interactive/Football Manager 2017 folder and create a new folder called 'ads' giving you the following directory My Documents /Sports Interactive/Football Manager 2017/ads.
4. Move the 'Club adboards' and 'no club adboards' folder from your desktop to a new directory you make in My Documents /Sports Interactive/Football Manager 2017/ (The name doesn't matter).
5. Decide if you want to use the 'Club adboards' or 'no club adboards' once you have decided copy and paste the fm.xml file into to the ads folder you created earlier.
6. Open up FM16 and access the in game preferences menu.
7. Go to the 'display' tab and untick 'use caching to decrease page loading times'
tick 'reload skin on confirm’ and confirm these changes.
8. Re-start FM16 and enjoy.
Q. Why are there two different xml files?
A. As the folder names suggest one xml file contains club specific ad-boards and one doesn’t. This has been done as in previous patches people have complained that they see clubs specific ad-boards in cup competitions. Due the way the xml file there is no way around this using code. The only solution would be the use of two files.
For example say you are Arsenal and want Arsenal specific ad-boards in the Premiership and the Champions league ad-boards in the Champions League you would follow these steps;
1. Load up FM with the Club Specific config file in use
2. Play your league game (Arsenal ads will show)
3. Before your Champions League game Save and quit FM17
4. Replace the club specific config file with the non club config file.
5. Re-start FM17
6. Play your Champions League match (Champions League ads will show).
Q: Will the boards show if I play using the 2d view?
A: Yes, If you play the Full game. They will not show up in Classic mode
Q: Can I contribute to the Ad Boards Pack?
A: Yes, Just make sure any boards you supply are accurate. FM is a simulation and the object of this pack is to make the game as realistic as possible! All static boards must be 1024 x 128 and in PNG format while video boards must be 2816 x 88 and in IVF format.
Q: Do I need to download the entire pack each time?
A: I hope to release smaller update packs after changes to avoid people having to re download the entire pack (like last year)
Q: I've found a problem with some Boards/Club/League in the pack, what should I do?
A: Please make sure you have followed each step of the instructions.
If they still do not work Please list the following:
Which XML are you using, what Clubs/League/Boards are affected & what you are seeing instead
This will help us to isolate the problem so we can attempt to fix it

Static adboards should be 1024 x 128 and in png format, below is a video demonstrating some simple adboards being made in photoshop for Fifa 13, the process is pretty much the same for FM but with the above image sizes.

Once you have made an adboard follow the below instructions to code it.
Open up the ads.xml file located My Documents/Sports Interactive/Football Manager 2017/ads
First of all you have to load the graphics into FM17 which is done by the following piece of code the near the bottom of the xml file

- Just identifies to whoever is reading the xml file what this piece of code is for competitions/clubs..
<record id="2191" - Assigns a unique id number to specific ad-board (you makes this number up but make sure it is not already in use elsewhere in the config)
path="pictures/ads/europe/clubs/scotland/spl/hibernian/puma"/> - Location of the ad-board which has just been given a unique id number
The next bit of code determines where the previously assigned ad-boards will be displayed

As these animated adboards take a long time to make, the PS4 adboard alone is made from 36 frames, I want to concentrate on updating the major European Leagues with these adboards so for the time being I will not be taking any requests.

We'll probably collaborate in some form, I'm toying with the idea of doing all clubs from the Seria A or La Liga but will decide once I've made the Europa Leagues. I may also give the Major European Leagues a generic update as most of the current ads are several years old, however the same can be said for most club adboards too I guess.
Whats the communities general preference, do most people tend to play with competition or club specific ads?

I am going to name all files 1, 2, 3, etc so that if new boards are released I can just drop them in without worrying about names like 'nike' etc
I know it is unlikely but are there any shortcuts I can take with XML, any editors/generators you know of. I have nearly finished setting the folders and files up and I have a combination of boards from debsli, sortitoutsi and pimpmyfm, as well as any new ones released so far this season.
If I get it all done and it works I would upload XML and megapack if I can get permission of the original adboard creators but I might not make it that far, the XML will take ages.

Yes if you start a new xml file you can use any integer value, I am trying to tidy up and restructure the main xml to remove duplicate files to reduce the file size and make it easier to update (e.g. just having one graphic file for say adidas, would mean I'd just have to update that one file and it would automatically update all clubs and comps to the new adboard however like you have said its a very time consuming process.

I have also created static boards for the Champions and Europa league used in a 3rd xml file (No LCD ads) so smaller grounds will display the correct adboards instead of just the upper-tier boards, examples below
