2041 - May:
May has come, it includes the final five fixtures of 2040–41 as we, Mordovia, aim to return to the Premier Division at the first time of asking. We were in a nervy fight with Lokomotiv Moscow, Fakel Voronezh and Kuban with only the top two gaining automatic promotion while the others would have to settle for the tough play-off system.

PROMOTED! We have regained our place in Russia's top-flight at the first attempt after securing a second place position! Absolutely delighted! We missed the title on Games Won, but I am not bothered at all. All I wanted was promotion, I wasn't bothered with how we done it. To get second is excellent, as the play-offs mostly always go the way of the Premier Division clubs. Year 1 with Mordovia: Promotion as Champions. Year 2: Disappointing relegation. Year 3: Promotion as runners-up. Eventful tenure with this club, but I'm very much enjoying it. Hopefully Year 2 doesn't repeat itself in Year 4, though.

We maintained our undefeated streak by not losing in May - we only lost twice between 23 September 2040 and 25 May 2041. A 1–1 draw at home to Tyumen was a disappointment, a match that basically cost us the title looking back. Tyumen are a bogey side of mine, though. Even if that point was a bad point, it would turn into a good one if we made up for it with a win versus Armavir. We did just that, easing to a 3–0 home win with Alexey Kornilov and Vasily Sidorov (x2) scoring. In the following mid-week, a huge fixture was to be played. Fakel (3rd) vs. Mordovia (2nd).

We secured a massive goalless draw in Voronezh, this kept us two points clear of Fakel going into the final two matches - a defeat there would've been highly damaging. A hosting of Luch-Energiya came on the penultimate day, a win would've secured promotion - which is exactly what happened. Andrey Bragin and Zaur Kornev came up with two outrageous long range finishes (see below) to win us the match. Bragin and Kornev, of all people! Our two more defensive midfielders scoring their first goals of the season! Promotion was secured as Fakel dropped points away to fourth place Kuban.

Going into the final day, we were level on points with Lokomotiv Moscow so the title was still available. However, there would be no title for us despite beating Shinnik late on thanks to yet another Sidorov goal. Lokomotiv narrowly beat Fakel 3–4 so won the league on Games Won. We had a better goal difference than them, lost less matches but due to the league's tie-breaker of Games Won they came out victorious. Unfortunate, but can't argue that tie-breaker; a fair one. On Sidorov: What a hero. He scored 30 goals in 38 fixtures! Breaking a league and club record. He really stood up, in a season when he needed to after the departure of Alysson.

Bloody hell, Lokomotiv AND Spartak Moscow were both relegated to the second tier in this save. That's mad! Unlucky to be pipped at the post to the title, but congrats on the promotion!

2041 - August and September:
After clinching a second promotion with Mordovia to the Premier Division, we head into the 2041–42 campaign aiming to retain, or at least put up a good fight, our top-flight status; unlike two seasons ago.

A truly remarkable start!! After eight fixtures, we madly sit in fourth place; ahead of reigning champions Krasnodar! Fourth! 4th! Surpassed my expectations hugely. I don't expect it to last, but man am I enjoying it! We haven't even played incredible football, but are being sensationally clinical and defending unbelievably stoutly. We opened with a defeat to Krylia Sovetov, losing 2–0 and performed pretty badly. However, since then all the performances have been good in different ways. Our home starter was against Ural, and we deservedly beat them 2–0 with goals coming from last season's thirty-goal man Vasily Sidorov and left-winger Alexey Kornilov. It took four months for our first win in 2039–40, just two games this time.

Then we faced Krasnodar, the Premier Division champions in five of the last six seasons, and snatched a 0–1 victory away from home! Sidorov scoring in the 34th-minute. Insane three points! We didn't stop there though as, on 25 August, we stupendously secured three straight wins by beating Rostov, last year's runners-up, 3–1 at the Mordovia Arena; Georgy Maltsev scored first before the hero himself, Sidorov, got a double. I truly couldn't believe what I was seeing, absolutely buzzing. The current league leaders Ufa hosted us in August's final match, they sent us packing with a 3–0 defeat; firmly back down to earth but, despite the scoreline, we didn't embarrass ourselves. Ufa have won seven of eight. 'Nuff said.

We responded by going two unbeaten after securing a point at home to CSKA Moscow, you'll never guess who scored - Sidorov, and three away to Rubin. Kornilov with a first half strike which turned out to be the winner, but the real story was our defensive display. Honestly, it was the greatest defensive performance I have ever seen on Football Manager. The whole team was tracking back, making clean tackles, literally throwing themselves into oncoming shots as well as the goalkeeper, loanee Andrey Antipov who is actually deputising for the injured Srdjan Djurovic, saving everything. Aside from the Krasnodar and Rostov wins, this was the performance of the campaign for us. We've lost back-to-back since versus Vityaz and Amkar. The Vityaz loss came in the Russian Cup with a back-up line-up so no bother there, and the Amkar defeat was understandable as they're a very solid outfit in this save.

So, as mentioned, we are 4th!! Crazy. I know it's only eight down, but considering we're relegation favourites and only expected to 'fight bravely' against the drop, this is amazing. We're only seven points away from getting to twenty points, which was our points tally for the entire season two years ago! Most importantly though, we are ten points clear of the automatic relegation spots. That's still the main aim of the season, to stay up! We've given ourselves an incredible platform, but need to make it count.

Awards, records, expectation and squad stats are below.

Transfers! Last time in the top-flight I went out and signed a load of players to try and strengthen the squad, it didn't work. So, with that in mind, this time I decided to take it easy and only sign what was needed. Eight players joined, while a whole host of deadwood/youth left. Dmitry Lobanov (230k, CM, Sibir) joined first, he is first-choice but has had injury issues so far. Emma Okoro (79k, CM, SKA Khabarovsk) signed on the same day, back-up CM as I felt we needed more depth in midfield. Hence signing number three on 15 June, Igor Ovchinnikov (2.5k, CM, Levski Sofia). He's first and foremost a CM but is versatile.

I signed Andrey Antipov (Loan, GK, Ufa) on a temporary basis on 28 June, a very key signing after Djurovic's injury. Centre-back Vadim Mamaev joined permanently from Sibir on a free transfer following three campaigns on loan. Lassina Doumbia joined from Croatian club Osijek for 110k, back-up striker to Sidorov. Other signings: Vladislav Konoplev (Free, RB, Shakhtar Donetsk). Yury Musin (85k, CB, Dynamo Moscow). Both squad depth. As for outs, the only notable ones were: Jef Van Den Eynde and Roman Kiselev (Released) and Evgeny Shonia (57k, CB, Torpedo Moscow). Latter was used to free up cash for Musin, who is an upgrade on Shonia in my opinion.

Lastly, there have been rumours of a takeover throughout August and September. We're currently under a transfer embargo. Yet to be seen if anything comes from it.

Yes we could! We may have dropped a few places, from fourth to seventh, but we remain just two points off the guaranteed UEFA Europa League places. Not that I am expecting European football, that would be truly ridiculous. Six fixtures came during October and November 2041, we won two while drawing three and losing just once. Tom were our first opponents and we cancelled each other out in a 0–0 draw at home. Two more home fixtures followed against Zenit and Lokomotiv Moscow, a fellow promoted team, and we managed to win them both! Vasily Sidorov got the goal to beat Zenit, while we scored four to beat the third promoted side Lokomotiv 4–1; Georgy Maltsev scored two beautiful free-kicks, Georgy Lepskiy and Sidorov also got goals. Two more fairytale victories, after the Zenit win my job status was at 'untouchable'.

Back-to-back draws with Akhmat (1–1) and Arsenal Tula (0–0) followed to maintain our five match undefeated streak, however that was ended on 24 November after we lost on the road to the third promoted side Kuban. Sidorov got a double which looked to seal a point before Oleg Tikhomirov grabbed a Kuban winner. Disappointing. It has been a funny start to the season in that sense, as when we don't play so well I get annoyed. Like, even with the draws I felt we dropped points but in reality they were both great points. As this stage for us, any positive result in the Premier Division is a big plus. The goal remains to stay up, anything else is a bonus.

After fourteen fixtures, we are sitting in seventh place but are only two points off fourth with a game in hand on sixth and fifth. We are ten points clear of the relegation play-offs, while it's twelve points between us and Tom who occupy the final automatic relegation spot. Fun fact: Points-wise, we are closer to winning the league than getting automatically relegated! Crazy. No way did I expect us to be in the top eight at the halfway point.

The records/awards from these two months are below, including our domination of October's Goal of the Month award, in-which we got all three goals from the same match vs. Lokomotiv; Maltsev with one and two which were both free-kicks and Lepskiy got third, somehow - average goal. Outrageous from Maltsev though, see his free-kick double below. Squad statistics there too.

2041 to 2042 - December to March:
2042 enters and we, Mordovia, are having a simply brilliant season in Russia's top-flight. We aimed to continue it into the new year.

Just five fixtures due to the winter and international breaks. We have kept up the superb form as we've won two, drawn two and lost one. So happy! A goalless draw with Spartak Moscow opened December 2041, that proceeded a defeat to high-flying Krylia Sovetov. Both at home. We needed a more positive result heading into the winter months and thankfully we got it against bottom of the table Ural, Evgeny Polyatskin scoring prior to a Vasily Sidorov brace. In the winter break, we won all four friendlies which included a credible win over Legia Warsaw.

The Premier Division returned in 2042 with a home match with reigning champions Krasnodar and, just like in August 2041, we managed to beat them by a single Sidorov goal. That means we've achieved a league double over the Russian champions. Totally unexpected! Next came a draw with Rostov, which meant we went undefeated against last year's runners-up! We then had two international break friendlies against big opposition in Köln and Midtjylland. We beat them both, beating the Germans on penalties and the Danes 2–0! Sidorov scored versus Midtjylland, competitively he has 12 goals in 19 apps. Incredible from the 33-year old who got 30 in 38 in last season's promotion-winning campaign. Legend!

As previously stated, all that leaves us 6th. If you had said we'd be sixth in April 2042 at the start of the season, I would have been bawling with laughter. It has been an exceptional season so far. We're six points off the European places, unlikely to get it for fifth as the current Russian Cup semi-finalists are out of the top four. However, in previous seasons I've noticed teams have been denied access due to licensing issues which means the place would drop down to the table. E.g. last season Krasnodar were denied entry so sixth place got European football (also due to Russian Cup winners allowing fifth a place). I'm not even sure if we'd be allowed a license. Who knows! Besides, that's definitely not out expectation or aim - surviving the drop is all that matters. We're currently 15pts clear of the relegation zone which is fantastic.

Some big news to share. Right at the end of March I was offered two job interviews, with Rubin Kazan and Rostov. Two sides who are below us in the top-flight table but two who are underachieving massively and should be inside the top six, they would for sure be a big step up from Mordovia. With that in mind, I attended both interviews. I'm interested in both, but I'm in no hurry to leave Mordovia. My preference would be to start from next season if I were to leave. We'll see what comes from it, no shock if I get overlooked.

7th! Despite a rough patch of form, we have secured a seventh place finish which is more than fantastic. We were just six points off fourth place and a UEFA Europa League place, basically if we didn't lose both games against Tom (fifth bottom) we may have got European football. That's a thought. Important not to forget our place though, seventh is brilliant for a newly promoted side. We exceeded all expectations. Time will tell if this was just a freak fairytale season or just the start of something, too early to tell; hopefully the latter!

We started April three undefeated by drawing with CSKA Moscow (0–0) and beating Ufa (1–0) and Rubin Kazan (2–0) - Vadim Mamaev (1) and Vasily Sidorov (2 - becoming the club's all-time leading league scorer with 112) scoring. Three straight defeats versus Tom (3–0), Amkar (0–2) and Zenit (3–0, my 800th match in football) followed, conceded eight without scoring. All of a sudden, our opponents had figured our tactics out so a change was needed. I mixed things up for the final five fixtures and it worked well as we went on a run of: W3 D1 L1. Very good form, if not for that losing spell we may have got European football! The wins came against Akhmat (2–0), Kuban (1–0) and Spartak Moscow (0–1), the lone draw was versus Lokomotiv Moscow (0–0) while the only loss was versus Arsenal Tula (1–0).

Seventh it is. Overall, an outstanding season. If anything, we struggled in matches against our should-be rivals but had a good time of it against the Premier Division elite. We beat champions Zenit and second place Ufa at home, got back-to-back wins over reigning champions and third placers Krasnodar. Yet, we suffered defeats to the likes of Arsenal and Tom. Odd!

Records/awards and squad stats can be seen below. Lastly, in the last post I mentioned I was offered job interviews with Rubin Kazan and Rostov. I was interested and attended both, but was overlooked by Rubin and Rostov. Shame, but not looking to leave Mordovia at all - would've been a good time to move up the ladder, though.

2042 - August and September:
My fourth full season with Mordovia has got underway. After an outstanding season in the Premier Division in-which we finished seventh as a newly-promoted team, we play 2042–43 to see if the previous campaign was a freak or the start of something regular.

Last season's star performance is firmly in the past as it looks like normal service has resumed. After eight fixtures, we find ourselves second bottom after losing five of our opening fixtures. The way we've played has been quite dreadful but we've managed to get much needed points towards the end of this two month period. The season started with defeat at home to Kuban, we were well on top so I decided to push for a victory but that went against us as we were caught on the break by the Krasnodar-based club. Then came a no goals draw with Amkar, a team that contacted me with regards to possibly being their new manager just days prior. The media linked me to them, then the club offered an interview. I rejected it, it's not a massive step-up which gives me no reason to turn my back on Mordovia.

Three consecutive losses followed to CSKA Moscow (2–3), Rostov (3–0) and Ufa (0–3). Horrific form, could've lost by a few more goals in all three in total honesty. A friendly win over Kazakhstan Premier League outfit Akzhayik couldn't stop the rot as we suffered defeat in September's first fixture - a 2–0 loss on the road to Krylia Sovetov. Thankfully, results significantly improved over the most recent three fixtures as we've gone unbeaten. We beat Rubin Kazan away from home thanks to a goal from Juan Manuel Hernández, a player who was released by Rubin in the summer and subsequently signed by me. Hernández got back-to-backs goals as he then scored in our Russian Cup fifth round win vs. third tier Spartak Nalchik. Finally, we tied 0–0 with Sibir to end August and September's matches.

A real mixed bag, hopefully the recent form is a sign of things to come. Let's be honest, taking out last season's exploits, this is probably where you'd expect us to be in the table - fighting relegation. Survival is the board's expectation, as it was last season. All that matters is we stay up. Only Akhmat are below us in the table on 1 October 2042, but we are only two points from the places above and three from total safety so all to play for. The Amkar job stuff can be viewed below, as well as a media item linking me with newly-promoted Dynamo Moscow; no further news on that - I don't want it. One award and squad stats also below.

One last thing: Transfers! It has been a slightly difficult window with not many key players popping up in my opinion, I ended up signing a few for depth and a few as punts to see if they might be good enough. First in was Toni Erlic on loan from RNK Split, a back-up striker. Next in, on 1 July 2042, was the permanent free signings of Andrey Antipov (GK, Ufa) and Georgy Lepskiy (CM, Krasnodar). Two key players from last season secured for this. On 4 July, the lovechild of Januzaj and Zlatan joined as left-back Adnan Ibrahimovic signed on a temporary basis from 1860 Munich. Then came the signing of the aforementioned Hernández. Centre-backs Maycon (Loan, Cruzeiro) and Raphael Agu (Free, Rangers International) are squad depth signings. The last incoming was Romanian left-winger Radu Tincu on loan from FCSB, his arrival and subsequent starts have coincided with our upturn in form - good beginning to his Mordovia career.

A whole host of outgoings. Mostly average youth players, but a few standouts too. Ex-back-up 'keeper Vitaly Volkov has been loaned out once again, this time to second tier Tosno. Argentine centre-back Lautaro Seimandi has joined Sibir on loan, a player who signed during my first full season in the First Division and was superb - but since then, he has been awful; lost count with how many penalties he has given away in the top-flight. Yury Musin has departed the club, he signed last year for 85k from Dynamo Moscow but has since returned to them this summer for 140k. Valery Pavlov has been released, signed him a few years back for a fairly big fee as he looked like an up-and-coming full-back but he has not developed at all and has failed out on loan in three attempts. Other sizeable outs: Alexandr Sadikov (100k, Arsenal Tula). Evgeny Ivanov II (Loan, Khimki), Alexandr Petrov (900k, Rostov). Petrov is very young, looks a some kind of wonderkid report/attribute wise but I haven't seen any of the hype - couldn't turn down 900k, was only worth roughly 100k!

2042 - October and November:
Coming into October and November 2042, we found ourselves second bottom with Mordovia in the Russian Premier Division with a three-match undefeated streak. Form had to continue in a good manner.

We have moved outside the relegation places! That's despite losing our first match of October 2042 to the only team that was below us at the time, Akhmat. They shocked us at the Mordovia Arena after winning 0–1 thanks to their one-club man Oleg Korshunov. An international break and subsequent 6–0 friendly win over Khimmash Ruzayevka followed, before we won crucially won our next two Premier Division fixtures. Those wins came against (then) high-flying Tom and relegation rivals Dynamo Moscow. Juan Manuel Hernández scored to beat Tom, while midfielders Georgy Lepskiy and Evgeny Polyatskin got the goals against the Moscow outfit who received two red cards. We faced Tom again on 30 October in the Russian Cup sixth round, narrowly losing out in extra time.

We then hosted league leaders Zenit on the following Saturday and gave them a very good match-up but lost it due to Argentine forward Carlos Lescano grabbing an 87th-minute winner. Arsenal Tula, a positional rival, were our next opponents and we got a huge three points at home thanks to an unlikely source in left-back Alexandr Smertin. Another dominant friendly win followed prior to two difficult matches vs. Lokomotiv Moscow and Krasnodar, two sides in the top six. Lokomotiv harshly beat us 1–0 after Bosnian international Josip Ninic scored ten minutes from full-time, but we did achieve a very credible point away to Krasnodar; Lepskiy scoring.

This leaves us in 12th, two points clear of the relegation play-offs and five clear of the two automatic spots. We're right on course to reaching our target for the season, even if it is a little disappointing to be this low after last season's exploits of finishing 7th. Two matchdays remain before the lengthy winter break, only fifteen games are remaining. Surviving is the goal! It has been a quiet two months elsewhere with unusually no awards/records to talk about, so just the squad statistics are below.

2042 to 2043 - December to March:
Into the twenty-seventh year of the save! By far the furthest I've gone in my Football Manager history despite having played FM for years and even logging more hours on some of the previous FMs. Shows how much I am enjoying this save though, I have no intentions whatsoever to stop. Loving it! Anyway, I enter my sixth year with Russian side Mordovia, currently plying our trade in the Premier Division.

Three wins from five! Our relegation fight has taken more correct steps as we've won nine points in December and March. They take us up a place to 11th, five points clear of the relegation play-offs and ten clear of the automatic places with ten matches left. We got off to the perfect start by beating relegation rivals Kuban at the 35,200 capacity Kuban Stadium, Juan Manuel Hernández scoring; the former Atlético Madrid striker has been a good free transfer, 6 goals in 19 games; He's 35 years old and will be retiring at the end of the season.

We hosted Amkar in 2042's final encounter and the high-flying Red and Blacks won 0–1 at the Mordovia Arena, they had ten men for the final fifteen but were not affected by it. Four friendlies came in the winter break, we were victorious in them all by an aggregate of 12–1. The Premier Division returned in March 2043, we faced CSKA Moscow away from home and grabbed an excellent 1–2 win; goals coming from wingers Radu Tincu and Artur Kuzmin. A valiant effort versus title-chasing Rostov followed on 15 March, we lost 1–2 but gave them one helluva match.

Our final fixture of these two competitive months was versus mid-table and slight under-achievers Krylia Sovetov. We won 1–0 thanks to Hernández. Interestingly, after this match they sacked their manager Vyacheslav Alyapkin and I was the first man linked by the media. I'm interested, responded just that. I'm now the media favourite and their fans claim to want me. No response from Krylia yet, but I'd be willing to join them but, most likely, only from June as I don't want to leave Mordovia mid-season. On that note, my contract with Mordovia ends in June and I've rejected new talks as I'm pretty sure I am going to leave no matter what. Ideally it will be with Mordovia more than safe in the top-flight, but even if relegation does occur I'll still likely leave for a new challenge. The only way I'd stay is if we got European football which is (rightly) incredibly unlikely.

The Krylia/contract stuff can be viewed here, as well as the awards and squad statistics.

As for the transfer window, it was very slightly a busier window than usual. Two players in, four out. I signed Mauricio Mamani (115k, CB, Real Zaragoza) and Arnar Þór Svansson (Loan, CM, Beitar Jerusalem). Mamani is now first-choice centre-back, I felt I needed a new CB to partner Evgeny Sergienko and I did just that - the Bolivian international has been good so far. Icelandic (could you tell?) midfielder Svansson was simply signed for depth, I always like signing back-up players just to be safe. As for outgoings, only two were notable. Igor Ovchinnikov (Loan, CM, Botev Plovdiv) and Evgeny Ivanov I (10k, LW, Alania). Ovchinnikov signed a season or two ago as back-up, didn't feature much and has returned to Bulgaria for a second spell with Botev. Ivanov I has been with us for a few seasons, but has fallen right down the pecking order and finally decided to leave; decent fee of 10k for a would be free agent.

2043 - April and May:
The 2042–43 season comes to a close with ten final fixtures with Mordovia in the top-flight. That's not the biggest news story, though...

We remain unmoved and finish the season in 11th, an excellent outcome in a season that could've gone worse but thankfully we found form in 2043. We won three of our last five. More on that in a moment. The big news to come out of April was this:

https://sortitoutsi.net/uploads/mirrored_images/tj5mflfqBeEjLyipfiQPVMJZfxRImtA3b0CrvdIM.png

I have agreed to become the new manager of Krylia Sovetov! That's correct, my eleventh job in management will be with fellow Russian Premier League outfit Krylia Sovetov. I was planning to leave Mordovia anyway, but to get poached by a different club is pleasing. As mentioned in the last post, I was linked with the job via the media and I indulged the rumours by claiming I was interested, their fans endorsed me soon after. That was in March, on 10 April they offered me an interview which I attended. It went well and, on 15 April, they offered me the job! As I also said, I only wanted to sign a deal starting from next season to avoid jumping ship with Mordovia. I start a few weeks after this campaign. Buzzing! A definite step-up, a team that should be regularly chasing European football; they underachieved in 8th this season.

That's the future, now the past. April 2043 with Mordovia started with a draw to Ufa with ten men, prior to a brilliant home win over Rubin Kazan after goals from Evgeny Polyatskin and Lassina Doumbia (who was recalled in January from his productive loan with Ural). Polyatskin scored again next time out against Sibir, but it meant nothing as the eventual relegation play-off side beat us 2–1 with a Vasilije Bakic double. Back-to-back 0–0 ties followed versus Akhmat (terrible, bottom of the league) and Tom (credible), before a key victory over positional rivals Dynamo Moscow; club icon Vasily Sidorov finally ending his season-long goal drought to get us three points. The 35-year old has shown his age this season, but has ended the season on fire.

He scored again next time out in a defeat to Zenit, before grabbing consecutive braces versus Arsenal Tula and Lokomotiv Moscow. We beat Arsenal 0–3 for our biggest league win of the season, Lepskiy also converting. Sidorov's two vs. Lokomotiv were penalties, but Lokomotiv were fighting for the title at the time but we ended their hopes; controversial refereeing in that one, Lokomotiv missed a PK. Our season ended with an excellent home draw to Krasnodar, against a team who were also fighting for the title; all they had to do was beat us and the title was theirs. They didn't, so Rostov are league champions! My future club could've got UEFA Europa League football but suffered some disappointing results near the end so ended 8th. We finish 11th, very happy with that.

So, after 192 matches (W85 D49 L58 GF210 GA174 GD+36 W%44 PRO2 REL1 TRO1) I leave my post as Mordovia manager. I have fully enjoyed my six years with the club, for sure my most enjoyable tenure thus far. I truly hope they can remain a Premier Division for the foreseeable future. With that said, I can't wait to join Krylia Sovetov!

2043 - August and September:
It's 2043 and I have started my eleventh job in management with Krylia Sovetov, my fourth club Russian job in a row. Perhaps I should rename this the Complete Russia Challenge?

Our opening to the new campaign has gone pretty well after eight matches, even if performances and off-field things have made it a tad difficult start to life in Samara. Pre-season went good, losing just once (to Queens Park Rangers) and winning the other six (most notably to FCI Tallinn and Guntamatic Ried). My first competitive fixture at the helm of Krylia was a big one, a derby with fierce rivals Rubin Kazan. A lot of build-up to it, but the contest itself was a rather damp squib. Rubin had a man sent off in the second half but it changed literally nothing. A home debut versus newly-promoted Fakel Voronezh followed, one of my summer signings Robin Westlin scored goal one prior to Salvador Sineiro and Nicolás Arias getting goals two and three.

Another victory came next in Yekaterinburg against Ural, we raced out the gates and were 0–3 up after fifty minutes. The points were secured, despite a late Ural fight back. These results put us in 2nd place after three fixtures, two points off leaders Krasnodar who we faced next. As you can see, we got absolutely battered by a sensational Krasnodar team. One of those matches where you actually sit in awe of your opponents, they were truly outstanding and thoroughly merited a 5–1 win. Next was a hosting of rivals Lokomotiv Moscow, who to had started the season very well. It ended goalless, I was happy with the performance; responded well to that loss to Krasnodar. Avangard gave us friendly opposition to start September, we won 1–3.

CSKA Moscow, another rival, were our first match-up of September 2043, they beat us at the Samara Arena thanks to a brace from their academy graduate Maxim Taibov. On 19 September, I returned to the Mordovia Arena to face my former club Mordovia, who have started the first season in six without me poorly. Westlin scored a brace to give me the three points in my first visit back to Saransk. Five days later, we travelled to the Kabardino-Balkar Republic to meet Spartak Nalchik in the fifth round of the Russian Cup. This fixture fell just two days before a crucial league match with Zenit so I was forced to rotate my line-up, even though I want to take the cup seriously. To my happiness, the reserves came in and got the job by winning 0–2. Nigerian forward Daniel Ajiboye got the opener before 16-year old debutant Andrey Dolgov got the second - what dreams are made of for the young centre-back!

Russian Cup progression was followed with Premier Division delight. On the following Saturday we made the trip to Saint Petersburg to meet Zenit and returned home with all the points after a stunning 1–3 away victory! Strike partners Arias (x2) and Westlin got the goals to make it 0–3, Zenit got a late consolation but it didn't damper the result. Superb performance, quite comfortably our best of my short tenure. That leaves us 5th, which I am very happy with. Two points off 2nd. As you may be able to see, Russia have lost a continental football place so it's just the top three who get in now, not four. Quite typical when I finally reach a job that's got European potential they make it harder to qualify. The Russian Cup winner still gets a UEFA Europa League spot, hence why I'll be taking that seriously; scheduling dependant.

The board expectation is a top half finish and a cup quarter-final place. We're well on course for that. Expectations, records/awards and squad stats are below.

I mentioned off-field stuff has made the start of my reign a pain in the backside, I was referring to the transfer window. Every man and his dog wanted to leave this summer it felt like, with them getting hasty at the slightest transfer rumour; countless key players came to moan at me, most of them got want they wanted which made my incoming transfers, of which that in itself was also a pain, even more important. In the end, I feel like it went as well as it could've. Five in, ten out.

IN: Radu Tincu (Loan, LM, FCSB). Robin Westlin (Loan, FW, Royal Antwerp). Matt Hull (Free, RM, LA Galaxy). Peter Bertilsson (1m, CB, Guingamp). Elvind Nilsen (1.1m, GK, Zenit). Tincu was first in, we had an ageing back-up LM whose contract expired so needed a new back-up. I had Tincu on loan at Mordovia last season and he was excellent, so he was perfect here. Westlin came in as back-up striker, but has hit the ground running with six goals in seven matches! The Swedish forward is looking an expert piece of business if I do say so myself. Bertilsson came in to replace (against my wishes) Bruno Lemercier and has done nicely thus far, happy with him. Similar story with Nilsen, he replaced Valery Prokhorov who deserted us.

OUT (notable): Denis Dorokhov (LM), Mikk Meijel (GK) (Released). Vladimir Garaev (400k, RM, Dynamo Moscow). Alexey Potapov (Loan, LM, Kuban). Bruno Lemercier (3m, CB), Alexey Averjanov (3.5m, RM), Alexey Zhuravlev (775k, CM) (Zenit). Valery Prokhorov (2.8m, GK, Sochaux). Andrija Stojkovic (37.5k, GK, Dynamo Saint Petersburg). The pricks were Garaev, Lemercier, Averjanov, Zhuravlev and Prokhorov. All of them pounced on the slightest of mummers to force moves, almost making us make panic buys; decided not to. I'm only just now getting to know the squad so haven't missed those who have left, but it did make me question the squad. Zenit signed three of 'em, made our win over them even sweeter; though Averjanov did score.

What a fantastic two months! At the midway point of the season, we are currently in 2nd! Five points off that excellent Krasnodar team, though we were actually level on points with them at one point. They're far too talented to keep up with, as shown by that mauling we suffered at their hands in August. We're inside the UEFA Europa League spots by three points, leading CSKA Moscow and Zenit in the table. Below that, we are eight clear of 7th which is pleasant. It has been an excellent start, hopefully we can maintain it. The board are very happy, with my job status at 'untouchable'.

A win over bottom half Arsenal Tula kicked off October, Nicolás Arias notching two goals. Superleague Greece team Aris then beat us in an international break friendly 2–0. Competitively we were on a four-match winning streak at this point, that was extended to seven after three straight wins. The first two were in the Premier Division versus Tom and Orenburg with 2–0 and 1–0 wins respectively, Robin Westlin joining Anton Yatsuk and Ruslan Nazarov in the scoring ranks; Nazarov with a 91st-minute winner v. Orenburg as a substitute! Then came our Russian Cup sixth round encounter with Dynamo Moscow, I fielded my full-strength team and was duly rewarded.

We didn't actually play too well but secured a quarter-final spot after a dramatic extra time victory. It looked all but over in normal time until Luan Rama popped up to level on 90 minutes, while in extra time it was an own-goal from John Asamoah which sent us through! We'll play Zenit in the next round. November arrived with back-to-back draws, 0–0 to Amkar and 1–1 to Rostov; the latter was an excellent point away to the reigning champions. Another friendly loss followed to a Greek top-flight side, this time to OFI Crete. We met Dynamo Moscow again one week later and beat them by the same scoreline - 2–1. It was again dramatic with Salvador Sineiro snatching us the win at the death!

Ufa were our final test of these two months and we played out a 1–1 draw with them, Arias on the scoresheet for us. CSKA Moscow failed to win so we remained 2nd. Fifteen matches to go, I'd be shocked if there was any let off from Krasnodar so our goal is to qualify for the UEFA Europa League; even though our expectation is to only finish top half. Awards and squad statistics are below.

2043 to 2044 - December to March:
We, Krylia Sovetov, head into 2044 sat 2nd in the Russian Premier Division table. The title isn't a real possibility as Krasnodar are on fire but that's never been the aim for the season anyway, a challenge for a European place is the goal.

We've dropped to 5th. Only a point off of 2nd, but it has been a disappointing few months. Form has dropped severely, winning just once in six competitive fixtures. It started with a defeat in the derby against rivals Rubin Kazan, they were way too good for us; Ruslan Nazarov scored. We hosted bottom of the table Ural next in the final match of 2043 and comfortably beat them 2–0 thanks to a goals from Nicolás Arias and Yegor Yefimov. In the winter break we took a trip to Portugal and faced four LigaPro sides, including Porto B. We won all four, the most notable was an action-packed 4–6 win at the Estádio José Santos Pinto vs. Sporting Covilhã; four goals on debut for new signing Konrad Görlitz.

Our first competitive fixture back was a big one. A Russian Cup quarter-final with Zenit. Sadly, it was over before it begun as Zenit won 4–1. They were three ahead inside twenty minutes. One of those games. When Krasnodar battered us in August, they were superb - Zenit, not so much. League action resumed with a trip to Voronezh to play Fakel, we were held to a 2–2; fortunate to get a point in truth. Since then, back-to-back defeats to Lokomotiv Moscow and Krasnodar. No goals scored, tough two opponents though. That's why we're 5th, as soon as we dropped points the others obviously pounced. Ten fixtures to play!

Awards and squad statistics below. The mid-season transfer window saw three new faces in and three faces out. IN: Cristóvão Mendes Santos (Loan, RM, Lokomotiv Moscow). Konrad Görlitz (1m, FW, Köln). Mirsad Osmankovic (Loan, GK, Dynamo Kyiv). Santos has been signed to give competition to current right-winger Luan Rama as summer signing Matt Hull hasn't done that. Görlitz signed as a partner for Nicolás Arias, looked amazing in friendlies but nothing in competitive action. Osmankovic in as third cover for number one goalkeeper Eivind Nilsen. OUT: Daniel Ajiboye (Loan, FW, Al-Batin). Dmitry Tseryuta (Loan, RB, SKA Khabarovsk). Franko Popovic (Loan, CM, Dinamo Minsk). Three squad players wanting first-team football.

After a drop of form throughout the start 2044, we had to improve if we wanted to secure a UEFA Europa League place for next season.

European football secured! We've finished 3rd to secure a UEFA Europa League qualifying spot for 2044–45! Fantastic achievement. We'll enter at the very early embers of the competition, the first qualifying round. Looking forward to it. April and May started off extremely well but didn't end plain sailing as we almost bottled it, but thankfully we got what we deserved.

My former club Mordovia were our first opponents of April, Nicolás Arias put us ahead before Rustem Borisov, a man I had during my days at Khimki, equalised. It was looking like we'd drop points but didn't, thanks to an own-goal from Vadim Mamaev. A damaging defeat to fellow top three fighters CSKA Moscow followed, Vyacheslav Biryukov got them the win but they didn't deserve it. We needed to respond and did just that by impressively winning our next five fixtures. Arias got us the three points away to Arsenal Tula, before Alexandr Uljanov scored for a crucial home win over Zenit - a side almost going for Europe.

Uljanov was the hero again in the following two matches, scoring goals versus Orenburg (1–2) and Tom (0–1). A fifth consecutive win then came against struggling Amkar, Arias with two goals. Great run of results, which put us in 2nd and six points inside the top three with just nine points available. However, that six point gap vanished quickly as we lost back-to-back to Dynamo Moscow and reigning league champions Rostov. That loss to Rostov was destructive as it allowed Rostov to leapfrog into 3rd, dropping us to 4th on Games Won and head-to-head results. Going into the final day, we had to beat Ufa on the road while we needed a favour from Amkar away to Rostov.

We did our job by sneaking past Ufa by winning 1–2, Uljanov scoring again as well as fellow central midfielder Yegor Yefimov. Meanwhile over at the Rostov Arena, the hosts took an early lead before Brayan Salazar received a red card. Six minutes later, ex-Vojvodina player Zvonko Djurovic levelled it up for Amkar. It remained 1–1 until the final whistle, therefore securing us a place in next season's UEFA Europa League! We got a little fortunate in the end, but we merit a top three finish.

Bring on next season. It has been an excellent first season with Krylia Sovetov, excited for the UEFA Europa League qualifying rounds. Hopefully we can make a run of it, not sure how far we should expect to go; third quali. round at least, I'd say. Luck of the draw!

2044 - June and July:
My second season with Krylia Sovetov kickstarts with a UEFA Europa League qualifying round adventure. We'd start in the first qualifying round, hoping to go through round-by-round and achieve the board's expectation of a group stage berth.

After pre-season matches with RB Leipzig (1–2 L) and Iași (2–2 pW), we were drawn in the 1QR with Icelandic Pepsi-deild karla club Valur. We absolutely bossed both legs but only came away with a 0–2 aggregate victory, Konrad Görlitz and Alexandr Uljanov scoring; should've netted more. It was enough to put us through to the 2QR to face SJK of Finland. It was more of the same as vs. Valur but with a key difference - goals! We advanced 9–1 on aggregate via a 0–5 win in Seinäjoki and a 4–1 win at the Samara Arena. German striker Görlitz scored a hat-trick in leg one and a brace in leg two; Nicolás Arias also achieved a trio of goals over the two legs. Excellent performances!

In the 3QR, we were awarded a match-up with five-time Norwegian top-flight champions Vålerenga. The second leg in Oslo is yet to be played, but we looked to have ended the tie in the first leg thanks to a dominant 4–1 triumph. Arias with the hat-trick this time, Görlitz couldn't keep himself off the scoresheet either. Leg two is in the following week, I'll be resting my entire eleven due to our extremely difficult start to the league campaign. Days after the encounter with Vålerenga, we hosted league champions Krasnodar in the Premier Division. We lost 0–2, they look just as good as last season already. Ominous. League fixture list doesn't get too much easier with Zenit up next, just two days after the second Vålerenga leg.

I've enjoyed this European run, the first continental football tasted in this save in UEFA; had only experienced it in AFC with Persib and Eastern between 2018 and 2026. Hopefully we can advance to the group stages. Board expectations, squad statistics and awards are below.

Transfers have occurred. Seven players arrived: Kim Yoon-Ho (Free, GK, Daejeon Citizen). Daniel Freitas (700k, LB, Paços Ferreira). Robin Westlin (675k, FW, Royal Antwerp). Joseph Davies (Loan, CB, West Ham United). Azamat Nikishin (1.9m, RB, Ufa). Mikhail Kozlov (1.3m, CM, Lokomotiv Moscow). Branislav Kovacevic (Free, LW, Lokomotiv Moscow). Kim is our new back-up goalkeeper as we lost our other two, Freitas is our new left-back, Westlin joins permanently following a loan spell, Davies comes in on loan to replace the departed Salvador Sineiro, Nikishin is our new right-back, Kozlov is a starting central midfielder and Kovacevic is a back-up left-winger. Happy with our business.

As for outs (notable): Salvador Sineiro (3m, CB, Austria Vienna). Maxim Schegolkov (Retired, GK). Dmitry Tseryuta (Free, RB, Neftekhimik). Alexey Potapov (375k, CB, Ufa). Matt Hull (Loan, RM, Orenburg). Sineiro a big loss but he wanted out, 3m a great fee. The others were just squad players.

2044 - August and September:
August and September sees us, Krylia Sovetov, continue our quest for UEFA Europa League group stage football as well as us properly starting the league campaign.

Fixtures:

A packed fixture list! We have qualified for the group stages of the Europa League, so have had fourteen matches to play in these two months. We finished the Vålerenga tie to start August, we held a 4–1 first leg victory and drew the second leg 1–1 in Oslo, Robin Westlin scoring on his return Scandinavia. Our second league match of the season was away to Russian Cup holders Zenit, we vitally beat them 0–2 via goals from defender Peter Bertilsson and forward Nicolás Arias. A rare free mid-week followed before a match with Fakel Voronezh at the Samara Arena, Westlin and Arias got on the scoresheet to secure a second straight win.

The UEFA Europa League play-off round draw got us a meeting with Finnish champions HJK, meaning a second trip to Finland in this qualifying campaign; after SJK in the 2QR. We won comfortably in leg one 3–1, Konrad Görlitz scored for his eighth goal in seven qualifiers; midfielders Gordan Cvitanovic and Mikhail Kozlov also notched. Back in the Premier Division, we faced Dynamo Moscow on 20 August and secured a 2–4 victory. Arias standing out with a superb hat-trick after Anton Yatsuk scored first. The second leg with HJK came on the following Thursday and we fixed our Europa League group berth with a 0–2 win at the Telia 5G -areena; Görlitz scoring yet again.

August 2044 ended with a hosting of Ufa in the league, we beat them 3–0 after Görlitz finally scored for the club in the league, typically with a hat-trick - like London buses! I set up a friendly with Inter Milan in the international break so we could face a top European side ahead of our Europa League group run, which was needed as we drew an extremely difficult Group A: Borussia Dortmund, Manchester United and Red Star Belgrade. Some draw! The exhibition with Inter ended in a narrow 0–1 win for the Italians.

After the international break, we had a match with Rostov in the Premier Division. A poor performance followed, which against a top team will cost you; we lost after a 73rd-minute strike from Alexandr Petrov, a player I sold to Rostov at Mordovia. Then came the game of the save so far, a home match against Manchester United - the team I support! They aren't what they used to be, not finishing in the top four for six seasons. They still had too much for us though and comfortably won 0–2. A run of two straight defeats needed ending, that it did following a 2–3 win in Makhachkala vs. Anzhi; Kozlov and Yatsuk getting us back from 2–1 down.

The Russian Cup got underway for us on 21 September, with a match with First Division club Armavir. A rotated eleven acquired a fairly straightforward victory by beating them 1–2, summer signing Branislav Kovacevic and youngster Alexey Zaitsev scored. Four days later, our first-team line-up lost in the league to Sibir; a newly-promoted team flying high. We actually bossed the majority of the match, but didn't take our chances - they did. Thankfully we responded outstandingly with a crucial four-goal victory in Serbia against Red Star Belgrade. Arias and Kozlov got a brace apiece to secure a superb win!

We sit 5th in the league, but do have a game in hand on 4th and are just four points off 2nd. Krasnodar are already doing what they did last season by absolutely dominating. As you'll notice, Russia has been re-awarded a continental place, meaning 1st and 2nd get UEFA Champions League while 3rd and 4th get UEFA Europa League; as well as the cup winner. Our official expectation is to qualify for the Europa League again, but it should be tight below Krasnodar so Champions League is a possibility. Two games down in Group A in Europe, that win in Serbia was key as we sit 3rd behind United and Dortmund who drew on Matchday 2. In the cup, we've been drawn with third tier outfit Lada; should win.

The transfer window has shut, two players have left. Andrey Petrov joins Amkar for 425k, while Alexey Petrov has joined my former club Mordovia on loan. Mordovia were actually relegated last season, but have started the season brightly in tier two. That, as well as the awards and squad stats are below.

Belgium U21s – Where Are They Now? – Ten Years Later:
Taking a look back at my time with the Belgium U21s between 2030 and 2034 as I bounced back from that terrible tenure with Dynamo Bryansk.

My Record:
EURO 2033 (Q) - 2/6 | PLD10 | W8 | D0 | L2 | GF26 | GA6 | GD+20 | PTS24
EURO 2033 | DNQ
EURO 2035 (Q) - 2/6 | PLD10 | W5 | D4 | L1 | GF26 | GA5 | GD+21 | PTS19
EURO 2035 | DNQ
Joined: October 2030 | Resigned: October 2034
Trophies: 0 (-)

I spent two qualifying campaigns with the Belgium U21s, didn't qualify for either. On the first attempt for EURO 2033, we were extremely unlucky not to qualify. We finished behind Germany in the group, before losing in a play-off to Italy. So close. The second time around we were pretty bad throughout despite having a seemingly easier group, we placed 2nd and finished behind Sweden; not getting enough points to make the play-offs. Disappointing. I subsequently resigned, the plan was always to stay for two tournament cycles.

I certainly underachieved with Belgium U21s, first time tough with Germany and then Italy but second time very bad; especially as they were reigning champions when I took over.

Their Record Since:
EURO 2037 (Q) - 4/6 | PLD10 | W4 | D1 | L5 | GF19 | GA11 | GD+8 | PTS13
EURO 2037 | DNQ
--
EURO 2039 (Q) - 1/6 | PLD10 | W8 | D1 | L1 | GF24 | GA8 | GD+16 | PTS25
EURO 2039 - 3/4 | PLD3 | W1 | D1 | L1 | GF4 | GA3 | GD+1 | PTS4
--
EURO 2041 (Q) - 2/6 | PLD10 | W8 | D1 | L1 | GF22 | GA3 | GD+19 | PTS25
EURO 2041 - 3/4 | PLD3 | W0 | D1 | L2 | GF3 | GA6 | GD-3 | PTS1
--
EURO 2043 (Q) - 1/6 | PLD10 | W9 | D1 | L0 | GF28 | GA1 | GD+27 | PTS28
EURO 2043 - 2/4 | PLD3 | W2 | D0 | L1 | GF4 | GA3 | GD+1 | PTS6 lost in semi-finals
Period: October 2034 to October 2044
Trophies: 0 (-)

They have qualified for three tournaments. The first, EURO 2037, they missed after woefully placing 4th. However, they've made all three since, performing outstandingly most recently for EURO 2043 by winning 9/10 and conceding just once. They even got out the group in 2043, unlike in 2039 and 2041, but were eliminated in the semi-finals by England. They're midway through the 2045 edition cycle and have just won their group to make EURO 2045 next year. Pleased to see them doing well, I actually enjoyed my time there despite the failure.

The next WATN? will be with Khimki in 2047 (three years away). Thanks for reading!

Hideous run of results! Just three competitive wins, only two of those were a league match. We've dropped down the table and have been eliminated, as expected, out of the UEFA Europa League. October 2044 began with a trip to face Arsenal Tula, goals from Anton Yatsuk and Nicolás Arias sent us home with the points. The following league fixture was vs. struggling Kuban at home, they held us to a 1–1 draw at the Samara Arena; Konrad Görlitz scored for us. Borussia Dortmund were up next in the Europa League, the first of a double header with the German giants. At Signal Iduna Park, we produced a valiant effort but eventually were easily beat 4–1, it was actually 1–1 on 59 minutes.

We resumed Premier Division football with a battering at the hands of Amkar, writing was on the wall early as we were two down inside twenty minutes. Winless streak of three at this point, thankfully we had a favourable fixture next with Lada in the Russian Cup sixth round. We dominated the encounter with the third tier club, but only won thanks to an early Görlitz goal. Win's a win! That was our last in competitive action for six matches. We drew 0–0 with CSKA Moscow on 29 October, prior to losing 0–1 at home to Dortmund; a result that officially put us out of the Europa League. We didn't stand a chance with them and Manchester United in our group. As long as we finish 3rd and beat Red Star Belgrade for 2/2 then I'll be happy.

Back-to-back league 0–0s came next as we tied with Lokomotiv Moscow away. Our fierce rivals Rubin Kazan paid us a visit on 19 November and went away with three points, a Ruslan Nazarov goal wasn't enough as we lost 1–2. Our penultimate Group A Europa League match followed, a trip to Old Trafford to play Man. United - a dream! The result was far from one though as they easily dispatched us 3–0. A disappointing draw away to relegation-threatened Orenburg then came, Arias scored in my 900th game in management but we conceded a silly goal in the second half through Jon Vrsic. Form could be changing though as the most recent result is massive - a 2–1 home win over Zenit! Arias and Yatsuk scoring, we needed that big time! Must build on it.

So, after all of that we are 6th in the league. Two points off the top four, seven off 2nd. Krasnodar still leading the way. In the Europa League, a win on Matchday 6 at home to Red Star will secure us a 3rd place finish which is very respectable. I believe if we didn't get Dortmund and United, we would've stood a decent chance of qualifying but hey-ho. Elsewhere, we remain in the Russian Cup. A quarter-final tie with CSKA Moscow is to come in March 2045, that competition could be our best bet for European football next season given our league form.

2044 to 2045 - December to March:
Happy New Year! 2045 has arrived, I came into it aiming to improve the form with Krylia Sovetov.

Pressure is mounting. My board job status remains at 'stable', but the media are right on my back claiming I'm close to getting the sack. That doesn't seem the case, but we do have to improve our showings as we're down in 7th place. We're expected to be in the hunt for UEFA Europa League football, four points is the gap between us and that so we have to improve. Just four Premier League fixtures in this one due to the winter break, we've gone: W1 D2 L1. In the friendlies we went: W3 D0 L1.

Back to December 2044, we had two competitive fixtures to face prior to the off-season. A league match with league leaders and title favourites Krasnodar came first and it actually went pretty well, we got a point away from home thanks to a Yegor Yefimov goal - it was nearly a winner, but our hosts equalised in the dying embers. Our final Europa League group stage match followed, at home to Red Star Belgrade. We beat them 0–4 in the reverse encounter and eased past them once more by winning 3–1. Joseph Davies, Nicolás Arias and Bassem Abbes secured us a third place finish. Happy with that.

During the winter break, we had a trip to Switzerland to face Basel before jetting off to the Middle East for a three-game tour. We beat Basel 1–3 at St. Jakob-Park, before facing Al-Ahli in the United Arab Emirates and winning by the same scoreline. A double-header in Qatar then came versus two teams who, in real life, have merged: Jaish and Lekhwiya (now known as Al-Duhail). We beat Jaish, again 1–3, but lost on penalties to Al-Duhail. A fun set of friendly fixtures, I'd love if you could manage in the UAE or Qatar in Football Manager, interesting set of leagues.

Like last season, we had a crucial Russian Cup quarter-final to return to in the new year. We were drawn to face CSKA Moscow at the Samara Arena, and advanced to the semi-finals after winning 1–0 thanks to a stunner from substitute Ruslan Nazarov. A SF with struggling Kuban awaits, a very winnable match on paper. Back in the league, we played Fakel Voronezh two days later and came away with all three points. Konrad Görlitz scored twice before Arias scored once to give us a 0–3. Fakel produced a second half fight but could only pull it back to 2–3. Dynamo Moscow were our next opponents, another struggler but they turned us over and won 1–2. Bitterly disappointing.

A dramatic 3–3 draw with Europe-chasing Rostov followed, Görlitz grabbed another brace to go with a Alexandr Uljanov strike to get us a very valuable point. We were actually 1–3 down so did very well to salvage a draw. With our form, I didn't expect anything from that match. A friendly with our affiliate club Alania rounded off March 2045, we smashed them 1–6. 7th place we are, four points off 4th. Krasnodar are seven clear at the top, back-to-back titles on the way for them. The Russian Cup could be our best chance for European football, we should beat Kuban and would face big rivals Rubin Kazan or holders Zenit in the final should we advance.

In the transfer window, I signed three players while letting three go. Salah Eddine Hajib, a Moroccan left-winger from Raja Casablanca, joined first in a deal that was sealed out of the window. Matej Udarevic, a Croatian right-back joined from Mordovia; I managed him at Mordovia, top player. Last in was Ghanaian midfielder Samuel Sulley, a 1.5m man from Granada. Daniel Ajiboye left to join Ludogorets, he wasn't in my plans one bit. Nor was Bassem Abbes, who departed to sign for Stuttgart. LB Anatoly Oreschuk joined Randers of Denmark, he was originally first-choice for me when I signed for Krylia but had since fallen to third choice.

2045 - April and May:
We, at Krylia Sovetov, head into the final two months of this season, knowing form had to improve if we wanted to achieve our target of a top four finish.

That's more like it! After piss poor months either side of the new year, we have recovered superbly with eight wins in our last ten league fixtures. Outstanding! It flew us from 7th to 4th, which therefore secures UEFA Europa League football for next season! Pretty unexpected given our overall season form, but I'm delighted - at one point we were nine points off of 4th, so we had to keep churning out the wins and we did just that. Just one defeat in these two months. It's not just the league form either, we're into the final of the Russian Cup!

Anyway, back to the beginning. We started with a strong performance away to Ufa, but only gained a point with Russian international Albert Volkov opening the scoring for Ufa prior to Konrad Görlitz levelling three minutes from full-time. The Russian Cup semi-final with relegation-threatened Kuban followed and we made light work of the Premier League strugglers, coasting to a 3–1 victory courtesy of Görlitz (x2) and Ruslan Nazarov. Our final opponents will be the holders, Zenit. The only loss in these two months came on 9 April, we got totally outclassed by Anzhi Makhachkala in a 0–2 defeat.

We then went on a run of four straight victories. The first two were by a scoreline of nil-one and both away from the Samara Arena to Sibir and Kuban respectively. Franko Popovic got us the win vs. Sibir on 16 April, while Joseph Davies got the game's only goal vs. Kuban on 21 April. Two very unusual goalscorers! The following two wins came at home to bottom of the table Arsenal Tula, 3–1 via Luan Rama, Nicolás Arias and Anton Yatsuk, and to European challengers Amkar, via Arias. A key affair with CSKA Moscow followed, we played out a quiet goalless tie - a better result, at the time, for CSKA.

That result kept CSKA in the top four over us, so it was vital we won our final three fixtures to make sure we'd pounce if others failed. That we did, as we won our last three against Lokomotiv Moscow (1–0), Orenburg (2–0) and Rubin Kazan (1–2). Arias got the only goal in the Lokomotiv match, while Görlitz got a goal apiece vs. Orenburg and Rubin to go alongside goals from Rama and Yatsuk. Those wins guaranteed us a 4th place finish as CSKA drew on MD30, securing European qualifying for 2045–46. I'm happy with 4th, despite dodgy moments this season we've achieved our expectation. The past positions chart, below, makes for interesting reading... left it late!

The Russian Cup final was an insurance policy for a place in Europe, but now we can just enjoy the occasion and hope to add a trophy to the cabinet. That will be in the next post! Key piece of news: I have signed a new two-year contract with Krylia! My previous deal was due to end in June.

2045 Russian Cup champions!

In front of a sell-out 81,000 fans at the famous Luzhniki Stadium, we became Russian Cup winners to get the club their first major trophy in their entire existence. It is also my greatest trophy of the career so far. We beat Zenit 1–2. Franko Popovic put us ahead on 39 minutes, before Anton Yatsuk set scenes to make it 0–2! Cicero Rafael got one back for Zenit on 65 minutes but we held on to claim a fantastic triumph! Buzzing! UEFA Europa League football secured and the Russian Cup won, not a bad season at all.

2045 - July and August:
Coming off a season which included Russian Cup triumph, my third campaign with Krylia Sovetov kicks off as we aim to better last season.

Somewhat of a mixed start to 2045–46. We've crashed out the UEFA Europa League, lost the Super Cup but have began the league in pretty good fashion. It all started with pre-season, we took a trip to Romania to face ASU Poli Timișoara and Târgu Mureș before facing Sokol and Everton on home soil before and after a trip to Turkey to meet Çaykur Rizespor. We won all but one friendly, losing to Poli but did beat Everton; even led 3–0 at one point. The pre-season period ended with the Russian Super Cup final versus dominant Krasnodar. It's a type of competition treated as a friendly by most, but not by me. I wanted to win this, but sadly the power of Krasnodar was too strong and, despite a good effort, we lost 1–0.

The UEFA Europa League third qualifying round came around next, we were drawn to face Allsvenskan side AIK of Sweden. We won the first leg 1–3 in Solna, prior to knocking out the fourteen-time Swedish champions a week later at the Samara Arena after winning 2–1; 5–2 on aggregate. New loan signing Maxim Kovalev stole the show in both legs, scoring four times. In between the AIK matches, we kicked off our Premier League campaign with an exquisite 4–1 home win over Ufa. Kovalev scored again to go with strikes from Joseph Davies (loan extended) and Konrad Görlitz (x2). Excellent way to start the league.

Unfortunately, we suffered defeat on Matchday 2 to Zenit. Kovalev yet again on the scoresheet, but it wasn't enough as we ran out three-one losers. Recovery was sweet though as, on 12 August 2045, we beat Dynamo Moscow after goals from Nicolás Arias and, yes you've guessed it, Kovalev. What an impact from Maxim Kovalev, the man on loan from Krasnodar. Seven goals in five appearances! Next came the final qualifying round for the Europa League, we got a tricky draw in Polish club Lech Poznań. I fancied our chances, but the draw could've been a little kinder. The first leg fell a few days after that Dynamo win, but it was an all together different match reaction as we lost 1–0. A league meeting with newly-promoted Armavir fell in the calendar next, a 1–0 win came with it via a 47th-minute Arias goal.

The second leg vs. Lech then arrived, we absolutely bossed the full ninety minutes but could only manage a 1–0 victory in ninety minutes. Therefore, extra time occurred. We again dominated but couldn't find another goal so it went to a penalty shoot-out, which in Football Manager almost means certain defeat. Sadly, it was just that predictable as Lech progressed after a PSO miss from Matej Udarevic. Bitterly frustrating. Further disappointment followed as Rostov beat us 3–2, a real bogey side of mine and Krylia; who have not beaten them in eight meetings! To make it worse, Alexandr Petrov scored a hat-trick - he's the man I sold to them whilst with Mordovia!

4th is where we sit, which isn't that bad. No draws this season yet. As mentioned, we are out of the UEFA Europa League way too soon; should've made the group stage. Sadly the Super Cup alluded us too, but at least the Russian Cup begins soon as we aim to defend our title; third tier Tyumen await in round five. You can view our board expectations below, as well as the awards/records and squad statistics.

Transfers: Five players came in, two permanently and three on loan. Mario Peretin is a centre-back from Amkar, signed for £2.5m he has become my first-choice CB. Biser Zotev followed, a back-up right-winger in from LaLiga 1|2|3's Tenerife for £1.1m. The aforementioned Maxim Kovalev was the first loan in, a striker from Krasnodar. The other two loanees are Stefan Mladenovic (LB, Birmingham City) and Fábio Fonseca (CM, Fenerbahçe). Both signed for squad depth.

Of the eleven faces out, only seven I'd call notable. Sérgio Carlos retired, first-team youngsters Dmitry Shapkin (RM) and Alexey Zaitsev (CM) left on loan to Sokol and Arsenal Tula respectively. Brazilian right-back Edinei was released, while fourth-choice striker Ruslan Nazarov joined Fakel Voronezh on loan; a move that actually made me sign Kovalev, who I planned to be fourth choice - now first! The two biggest outgoings were Luan Rama (RM) and Branislav Kovacevic (LM). Rama has joined Leicester City for £1.8m, I didn't want to sell but he wanted out. Kovacevic is a very good player, but has hardly featured and is third choice behind Anton Yatsuk and Salah Eddine Hajib. He was happy to stay, but I felt he needed first-team football - Genoa snapped him up.

2045 - September and October:
September and October sees full attention turned to domestic football, with seven Premier League matches to face as well as the beginning of our defence of the Russian Cup.

Nine competitive fixtures. Nine undefeated. It has been a fantastic two month period. It's a shame it didn't include UEFA Europa League football, but that has probably helped our league and cup form a lot. It all started with a trip down memory lane to face Mordovia, my ex club. We visited the Mordovia Arena and came away with the three points after a second half Maxim Kovalev strike. A 0–0 draw with Anzhi Makhachkala followed, prior to a fifth round win in the Russian Cup away to Tyumen; a strong eleven got the job done with Konrad Görlitz and Robin Westlin scoring.

A second meet of the season with Krasnodar came two days later, we were looking for a slice of revenge after Roman Bulak's side denied us the Russian Super Cup in July. It was looking business as usual as Danish international Kenneth Randrup gave them the lead just before the interval, and they held it with dominance until the 90th minute when right-back Matej Udarevic made up for his penalty miss in the Europa League by dramatically grabbing us a point at the death. Considering Krasnodar are easily the best side in the league, that was a superb point. That was the base for four straight competitive victories.

We hosted Lokomotiv Moscow next and beat them by a single goal thanks to Alexandr Uljanov's early opener. Another side from Moscow were our next opponents, CSKA at the VEB Arena. Uljanov made it two in two for him before Franko Popovic got his second goal of the season to secure a big three points on the road. Görlitz was the hero in the following match, he scored a brace to give us victory at home to Kuban. The penultimate fixture of October 2045 was a Russian Cup tie with Arsenal Tula, we progressed from the sixth round with a 1–4 win in what was my 100th match in charge of Krylia! It wasn't as easy as it looked as Arsenal actually took the lead, but goals from Fábio Fonseca, Görlitz (x2) and Nicolás Arias sparred our blushes.

A quarter-final with Amkar is to come. Talking of Amkar, they were our most recent opponents in the league. They held us to a 1–1 draw which was a bit disappointing as they're struggling, but I can't complain too much as it meant we have gone two months unbeaten thanks to Arias' goal here. During this spell, we played two friendlies against Akademiya Tolyatti and Shakhter Likhoy respectively and won both by an aggregate score of 12–1. Back in the league, we sit 4th; level on points with 3rd, three off 2nd and five off 1st. I'm not expecting a title challenge, but hopefully we can fight for 2nd which is the final UEFA Champions League place. Other than the league, we remain in the Russian Cup. I'll be giving that everything.

Short two months of fixtures due to the upcoming winter break, which will include a mid-season tour of the United Arab Emirates. Only five Premier League matches, but it has been another successful period with four wins in those five; as well as a friendly win over Maccabi Tel-Aviv. Relegation-threatened Tom were our first opponents in November, we travelled to the Trud Stadium and returned home with an excellent 1–4 victory. Konrad Görlitz scored in the first half, prior to second half strikes from Nicolás Arias, Maxim Kovalev and Anton Yatsuk. That friendly with Maccabi then followed.

Sibir, another bottom half team, were up next at home. Goals from Robin Westlin, Görlitz and a Alexandr Tikhonov own-goal gave us the 3–2 win. We scored three again next time out in the derby against Rubin Kazan. Our rivals have been struggling, but to win by three goals on their turf was extremely pleasing for all involved! Arias, Görlitz and a second OG in as many games secured the points. The toughest fixture of this period then came, at home to top three rival Zenit. If we had won, we would've went five points clear of 3rd and just three off 1st, it also would've stretched our unbeaten streak to thirteen. It turned out to be unlucky thirteen as we lost 0–1.

Thankfully, we responded superbly with a win away to fifth place Ufa. Central defender Mario Peretin scored fifteen minutes from time to keep us in touch with 1st and 2nd, it has also put a quite extraordinary gap of eleven points between us in third and Rostov in fourth. That should mean UEFA Europa League football is secured, but we're just one point off the secondary UEFA Champions League place so that's what we're aiming for. Krasnodar have stuttered a little, so the gap to the top is only four points. A title race? Surely not.

Into the winter break we go. The first competitive match back is the Russian Cup quarter-final versus Amkar. Squad statistics can be viewed below, along with the solely award received.

Sheer frustration! Just one win in four competitive matches, losing the other three. How about that friendly form though! World class.

In the winter break, we took that trip to the UAE and faced and beat Al-Taawon and the real life defunct Al Shabab, we had been scheduled to meet Al Ain but that match-up was cancelled due to their AFC Champions League campaign clashing - a friendly back home was set up with Dynamo Bryansk instead, one of my old clubs. We won all three friendlies, as well as the exhibition matches in mid-March which involved a double-header in Denmark against Aalborg and Nordsjælland. That, sadly, is as good as it got in February and March to be honest.

Our first proper match back in 2046 was the Russian Cup QF vs. Amkar, we were largely on top but they snatched it late on 90 minutes - a soon-to-be familiar feeling. Small rest bite followed with an unconvincing win in Moscow against Dynamo, Maxim Kovalev scoring along with Konrad Görlitz and Anton Yatsuk for a 2–3 win. A defeat to fourth place Rostov came a week later at home, our guests scored two goals after 85 minutes. Lastly, we lost to bottom of the table Mordovia at home - guess what, they scored an 83rd-minute winner. Rather predictable stuff.

That form keeps us 3rd, but it is not looking as rosy as it was. That eleven point gap to fourth has shrunk to just five, we're now eight points off top rather than four and Zenit, who hold the final UEFA Champions League spot, are now five clear, not one. Very annoying, especially given if we had beat Rostov we would've went to just points off top as Krasnodar and Zenit dropped points - obviously as we did too. With all that said, we do have a game in hand and there are ten matches left to play so anything can still happen.

Transfer round-up (Nigerian GK Philip Awaziem signed as back-up/Back-up full-back Azamat Nikishin joins Atalanta) is below, along with the squad stats and awards.

2046 - April and May:
2045–46 comes to a finish with Krylia Sovetov. With the title basically out of reach due to some dreadful form in February and March, we headed into these two months with the aim of qualifying for the UEFA Champions League for the first time in my reign.

An odd two months. In the end, we got what we wanted and exceeded our pre-season expectation by finishing 2nd and therefore gaining a UEFA Champions League third qualifying round spot for next season! Very pleased. The form improved, but we still showed signs of our weaknesses at a few points. We only finished 2nd thanks to help from elsewhere.

Armavir were our first opponents in April, and it went exactly like the previous matches went - much the better team, but lost after conceding another goal after 85 minutes. I made drastic changes after this, I dropped all but three (Eivind Nilsen, Matej Udarevic and Mario Peretin) from the starting eleven and replaced them with players who have barely featured this season, the likes of Fábio Fonseca and Yegor Yefimov. As you can see, doing that actually worked wonders and turned our season around. We subsequently went on a run of just one loss in seven matches.

With that rotated line-up, we won our next two matches. We defeated Anzhi Makhachkala away from home 1–3, Gordan Cvitanovic gave us the lead prior to Robin Westlin and Mario Peretin securing the win. Then came the biggest win of the season, that same eleven faced top of the table, reigning and eventual champions Krasnodar on 14 April and only went and beat them 2–0! Peretin and Westlin scoring once more, an incredible performance from the reserves to beat Krasnodar - made the first-team look like fools. It was a great win, it took us closer to Krasnodar for a short while. Sadly, we failed to win in the next three but those two wins were massive.

A loss to CSKA Moscow (1–2) followed, before one-one draws away to Lokomotiv Moscow and Kuban. We returned to winning ways by gaining revenge on Amkar, who knocked us out the cup, by winning 1–0; Westlin scoring. More dropped points followed versus Tom (1–1 draw) and Sibir (3–1 loss). That meant we sat 3rd going into the final day, needing to beat our fierce rivals Rubin Kazan and hope Amkar got something against Zenit at their home. We did our job by smashing our rivals 4–2, youngster Alexey Petrov stealing the show with a brace on just his second Krylia league appearance. Joseph Davies and Westlin also netted. Meanwhile over in Perm, Amkar beat Zenit 2–0! Meaning we leapfrogged Zenit in 2nd - a record high finish for Krylia!

So, UEFA Champions League qualifying awaits. It will be my first experience of the European Champions League, hoping we can reach the group stages; at worst the UEFA Europa League groups hopefully. We'll also be in the Russian Super Cup for the second year running, we qualify as league runners-up as Krasnodar won the league and cup double. Hopefully we can repeat that win over them from April and win the Super Cup. Away from those competitions, the bread and butter will be the league and cup. Hoping for serious challenges in both.

Lastly, I thought I'd share this. Down in the First Division, Spartak Moscow have just been relegated to the third tier of Russian football. Crazy!

2046 - July and August:
Season four with Krylia Sovetov in Russia in 2046. As has been the case since I arrived, the new season overtakes the previous in importance and significance. Last season we achieved a 2nd place finish, meaning we qualified for this season's UEFA Champions League third qualifying round. Could we advance all the way to the group stages, which would be a first for Krylia, or would we drop down to the UEFA Europa League?

Champions League group stage, here we come! Outstanding performances on the continent means we have made the group phase, but that's probably as far as we're gonna go. Just look at that group! Monaco, Arsenal and Borussia Dortmund. We don't have the luck with European draws. Two seasons ago, we drew Manchester United and Dortmund in our Europa League group. Now this! It'll be a great learning experience, at least. First up was pre-season, which went well as usual. Wins in Russia over Spartak Moscow, now in the third tier (!), Tosno, Alania and Baltika opened the schedule. We then took a mini tour of Scotland to face Aberdeen and Airdrieonians, losing to the former but beating the latter. A win over Volga completed our friendlies.

Our first competitive fixture was the 2046 Super Cup. Sadly, like a year ago, we lost it to Krasnodar. Konrad Görlitz put us ahead, but they had too much for us and eventually turned it around. Then came the big Champions League matches, we were drawn to face Superleague Greece side Olympiacos - a tough draw. We won the first leg at home 2–1, Maxim Kovalev and Arias scoring but the result was a little uneasy due to the Greeks grabbing an away-goal. That kept things close ahead of the second leg, which came days after the start of our league campaign - a 1–0 win over Kuban.

In Piraeus, it was an extremely tense match. Esteban Antonelli and Darko Resanovic gave Olympiacos a two-goal lead on the night, a 3–2 aggregate advantage. Nicolás Arias then grabbed an incredibly important away-goal of our own to tie the scores on aggregate, that would've sent the tie to extra time. However, Sebastián Lescano made it 4–3 overall on 65 minutes. I simply couldn't see us levelling it up on aggregate again, but to my sheer surprise that man Arias got his second of the match seven minutes later to make it 4–4! We held on for the final fifteen to advance to the play-off round! Nerves = shredded.

Back-to-back Premier League matches followed. We drew away to Fakel Voronezh one-one, before securing a big three points over Zenit at the Samara Arena - Bruno Lemercier, a man who jumped ship when I joined Krylia, with a decisive own-goal - that was sweet! In the UCL play-off round, we were drawn with Bordeaux of Ligue 1. Another tricky assignment, the media were completely writing us off. In France, we went two goals down inside eight minutes which made me fear a hammering. Thankfully, we managed to regain ourselves and grabbed a crucial away-goal via Görlitz. Yet another nervy second leg awaited. Before that, we had the opposite in a dire goalless draw with Amkar.

We hosted Bordeaux for leg two on 28 August. It was us who went in front, Görlitz netting on 17mins. That made it 2–2 on aggregate, meaning we'd go through if the result stood. It didn't, Bordeaux equalised just before half time through Mads Ambrosen. Heading into the final five minutes, it was the French club who were set to progress. However, substitute Robin Westlin came on to score the game's winner and subsequently sent us into the UEFA Champions League group stages. Scenes! Westlin really is my Ole Gunnar Solskjær, a super sub! We may have got a killer group, but I'm excited to play my and the club's first-ever UCL group phase!

Back in the league, we just lost somewhat embarrassingly at home to newly-promoted Dynamo Saint Petersburg. We sit 3rd in the Premier League, but have played a game more than all bar the aforementioned Dynamo. Our UCL group can be seen below, as well as our Russian Cup fifth round draw - an away trip to Akhmat. Expectations/Squad Stats/Awards/Records can be seen below.

Eight players came in during the transfer window. Didier Sylla: £300k right-winger from Dynamo Moscow. Sergey Semenov: Loaned striker from Anzhi Makhachkala, squad depth. Joseph Davies and Fábio Fonseca: Permanent signings, after successful loan spells, from West Ham United and Fenerbahçe respectively. Samuel Afari: Free forward from Reims of France, back-up player. Gerard Torres: Starting central midfielder signed on a free from West Bromwich Albion. Alexandr Smertin: A left-back I'm managing for a third time, previously had him at Khimki and Mordovia - free back-up from Dynamo Moscow. Walter Enciso: Last signing, CB on a free from Egyptian side Al-Ahly.

Numerous players out. Notable ones were: Biser Zotev: Disgruntled right winger, joined Dijon for £750k. Igor Nikulin, Matt Hull, Denis Talalaev, Alexey Petrov: Released squad players, last day hero Petrov wanted too much ££ so departed - has since joined Rostov, on loan from Krasnodar, while Hull joins Indy Eleven and Talalaev joins Mordovia. Salah Eddine Hajib: Loaned to second tier Tom, I rate him but he needs regular football - getting it in Tomsk. Andrey Dolgov: Promising young centre-back loaned to Mordovia. Alexey Zaitsev: Also a prospect, rejoins Arsenal Tula for a second loan spell. Ruslan Nazarov: Ageing, unwanted striker. He was good a few seasons ago, had a strong loan in tier two last season but still not his old self - joined Khimki on loan.
