New Year, new me. *vomits*
FRIENDLIES
Decent winter break, but how great is it having Dortmund as your parent club? Sell out crowd, excellent gate receipts AND TV coverage to place some much needed green into the piggy bank.
No ins, no outs so nothing terribly exciting this month...
But the league return comes with four games to round off my stint, starting off with midtable Eichstätt.

REGIONALLIGA BAYERN
MATCHDAY 20
Talk about Fries with a side order of disappointment. Twice did the allumette-cut German potato foil our half baked ideas. Andermatt's half volley was 1UP'd by Jonas' wonderstrike from 25 yards to level it up. Leverkusen loanee Sam Schreck got the final touch in a penalty box scramble to return our lead but yet another long ranger by Jonas Fries yet again not closed down to end the game honours even.
There goes our best centre back for a couple of weeks.
MATCHDAY 21
Where do I even start? Bayreuth certainly made us look like mugs to stun us with their flamboyance. Luibrand had another shocker up top to which he saw his free header clip the top of the bar to somehow keep the score blank. Early in the second half came the twist in the tale as Böhnlein escaped his marker to finish at the back post. A bundle of half chances was our only response to succumb to only our second defeat of the season.
Jesus wept.
MATCHDAY 22
Fortunate win, but a moment of managerial stardust as Sam Schreck was our last roll of the dice to scab a much needed three points. A free kick only minutes after coming on made the difference in an otherwise uncomfortable display. Memmingen bossed the first half and will be fuming that they didn't close the deal.
MATCHDAY 23
The cliché "first shot on goal all game" had us fighting to peg back Augsburg's II team. Dictated everything until a terrible judgement from GK Schubert allowed the home side to 'augment' our difficulties into the second half. Ziereis got the nod ahead of Luibrand and didn't disappoint to latch onto Dressel's lofted ball to fight back. Red card for Berzel killed our chances to go on for a win, we had them in the palm of our hand.
RESULTS OVERVIEW
It's all gone Alex Song with only one win in our last five games. Sam Schreck stepped up to the plate somewhat but Luibrand seriously disappointed me. Perhaps a new touch of perspective can help us improve.
LEAGUE TABLE
Bayern II are steamrolling back into contention, lying only nine points behind us. For the record, they have Arjen Robben, Serge Gnabry, Juan Bernat AND Sebastian Rudy playing for them in the fourth tier. How is that fair??
Time to hand over to @Shedender who'll no doubt steady the ship and not bottle it!
Shedender
The month began with a disappointing single goal home defeat to Illertissen but we bounced back with three wins and a draw in the next four Regionnal Div. Bavaria games while our defence of the Bayerischer Pokal continued as we progressed with a one nil home win over Garching - Elchstatt await at home in the quarter final stage.
And we remain top of the table and nine points clear.
Shedender
It's proven to be a tough April as our 1860 side only recorded one single league victory, a 2-1 success away from home against Seligenporten and the same month began with a shocking and unexplainable 5-0 defeat away to FC Bayern II but we did advance in the Bayerischer after a single goal home win over Elchstatt and our reward is a home semi final against Illertissen.
Still top.
DNZY
Shedender
Retained the Bayerischer Pokal after a one nil win away to Bayreuth but holy fucking shit, the league form in the past two months has been nothing short of atrocious in which we have won one league game in the past two months and whenever you're OUTPLAYED at home on the final day to the team who finished bloody second bottom then you know you've problems.
Bayern II won the league but who cares, we BOTTLED retaining the title. So it's another season in the fourth (I believe? tier of German football ffs.
It's now up to @Dan to make signings and start next season.
DNZY
Dan
Didn't have much room in the transfer or wage budget, we're building a strong bank balance though. Just the one face in this summer and I'm hoping he'l strengthen the back line and is rather versatile for us as well.
Eight games played to kickstart are season and we've definitely done that. Started very strongly scoring fourteen goals in our opening two games with a 6-0 and 8-3 victory. Annoyed we were held to a 2-2 draw wit Burghausen though. Obviously we're not near competing with the likes of Bochum in the German Cup and whilst a cup run would of been nice, we crashed out three one. We bounced back superbly in the league however winning the remaining four games, scoring ten goals and not conceding one! A strong base to build on.
Early days, but a two point cushion for the boys at the top of the table, surely third time lucky to get out this league?

NEW SIGNINGS
Oliver Hein - D(R)/DM/M(C)/WB(R) - two-season long loan from Regensburg
Depth in midfield needed improvements, especially defensive minded ones. Might not exactly be A list material, but his devotion to work rate, teamwork, stamina, strength and natural fitness fulfils justification of bringing him in...plus there weren't many alternatives. Versatility is a big plus.
Florent Muslija - AM(C)/AM(L)/(R) - two-season long loan from Karlsruhe
Technically strong and quick for this tier to stick in behind the lone striker (in my tactic at least), though can operate on either wing to add more strings to his bow. Might be the creative influencer to get us out of this hellhole division. Experience in the second and third leagues also makes him a standout. Very happy to get this one over the line.
REGIONALLIGA BAYERN
MATCHDAY 7
Memmingen's idea of two holding midfielders made it difficult to break them down, still no excuse for drawing a blank here. Günther-Schmidt nodded onto the post which sadly was our only threat all game.
MATCHDAY 8
Entertaining encounter between the top two ended all square. Despite an early disallowed goal, Sam Schreck eventually opened the scoring for us at the near post. Our set piece defending is woeful lately, the source of the equaliser where Danilo Dittrich was unmarked at the edge of the area to wallop in from 25 yards. For all our pressure, typically we went to sleep at the back, far too easy for Eberle to be left free to tap Eichstätt ahead. Loanee Muslija made a solid first impression, assisting the first then quickly responding to make it two each. Fair result on reflection, but should have been more clinical up front. Seferings having a mare.
MATCHDAY 9
Not overly convincing, but a win is a win. Lion's share of possession and efforts on goal but in the end it was only a penalty that separated the sides, Kai Luibrand given the green light to start and calmly scored what proved to be the difference. Luibrand and Schreck squandered glorious chances to further the lead, but our rearguard never really looked in trouble.
BAYERISCHER POKAL
SECOND ROUND
Our 100th game in charge saw us easily advanced to the third round with thanks to Luibrand and Muslija feasting on Kottern's weaknesses.
THIRD ROUND DRAW
Schweinfurt always tricky customers, won't be an easy game.
RESULTS OVERVIEW
This was a poor month by my standards, only two draws and a win in the league we should be dominating by now. Struggling to decide on my best XI in this side and who is to lead the line, but Muslija is looking like a fine addition at this early stage.
LEAGUE TABLE
Still top but many sides are maintaining the pace. The superior goal difference might be vital should it come to that on the final day (hopefully not!).

REGIONALLIGA BAYERN
MATCHDAY 10
When you struggle to put away the bottom club, you know things need a revamp. Went along with a 4-2-3-1 wide in the second half et voilà; Nico Karger screaming to get some game time provided the cross for the all important breakthrough by Kai Luibrand. Still not good enough for my high standards.
MATCHDAY 11
Yep, think this tactic nails it on the head. Looked far more lucid and in control to batter slippery Schweinfurt. Lukas Gerlspeck had acres on space to ease us in front before triangulating balls between the wingers found its way to Sam Schreck in first half stoppage time. Strikers however did not turn up, otherwise it would have been a drubbing.
MATCHDAY 12
Man, Nico Karger is tearing it up since I've brought him into the team, his crosses were devastating in a cosy win over midtable Bayreuth. Assisted for the free scoring Muslija and almost set up Luibrand for a second but the post got in his way. Luibrand did eventually double the lead before a netbuster by sub Seferings enforced more misery to the visitors. Definitely reading off the same hymnsheet now.
BAYERISCHER POKAL
THIRD ROUND
Took a gamble with a rotated side but the lottery of penalties saw us miss out on a threepeat of this competition. For all our dominance, Schweinfurt against the run of play scored with their first shot on target - Nicolas Görtler humiliating our defence. It took for a B team member to finally break their resistance, Felix Braun entered the fray and delivered superbly to drill home. All the penalties were top notch until the fifth and final one, Danny Dressel ballooned his kick into the car park to allow the swine farts a passage into the next round. Ah well, focus solely on the league now.
RESULTS OVERVIEW
Far better than last month with three back to back wins plus clean sheets in all. Nico Karger and Florent Muslija bringing harmonious wide play creativity to the shape, transforming us to prime title challengers again.
LEAGUE TABLE
For all our good work, Illertissen are like a dog with a bone to remain only a point behind. Five point gap to Schalding in third.
DNZY
REGIONALLIGA BAYERN
MATCHDAY 13
Aschaffenburg were tough nuts to crack, thankfully two penalties avoided any banana skins. Luibrand and his replacement Braun took honours respectively to dust off that dirt on our shoulders. They played unusually narrow and yet somehow our wide formation looked defective.
MATCHDAY 14
Fürth seconds were easy pickings, pedalling to a comfortable fifth win in a row. Sam Schreck took full advantage of an open goal rebound to lead at the break, but afterwards we looked twice as dangerous. The combination between Musliga and Karger was orgasmic, twice on hand to finish from Florent's crosses. Centre back Weber also helped himself to one. Absolutely flying.
MATCHDAY 15
Augsburg's seconds suffered the same fate. Nico Karger required two bites of the cherry to finally put us ahead in a game where we swamped their lone striker to feed off scraps all game. Felix Braun is prolific for the B side this season, but perhaps has a role to play in the first team also, coming off the bench in the 82nd minute to score twice, including a last minute penalty.
Brick walls.
MATCHDAY 16
Second half complacency was almost our downfall in a six pointer over Schalding. Two up in nine minutes we thought we'd take our foot off the gas after that. Took 16 second half seconds to suddenly look vulnerable through Markus Gallmaier but fan favourite Karger restored that two goal cushion. Fell asleep again from a corner to give Schalding a fighting chance, only just lasting the final half hour including a portion when we were reduced to ten after injury to Gebhart. It'll take more than that.
Count our lucky stars I brought in Hein on loan for this very purpose. Long wait for Gebhart to return.
MATCHDAY 17
Felix Braun to the rescue again, sparing our blushes against a hungry Pipinsreid side near the foot of the table. Karger bagged his fifth in four games within the opening three minutes to set the tone of the game..or so I thought. A delicious 25 yarder from Tobias pegged us back before Braun's introduction overruled it. Back came the visitors thanks to more shambolic set piece defending to squeeze an opening for Renger to make it 2-2. A second for the on fire Braun swung the pendulum in our favour yet again to avoid a costly drop of points.
RESULTS OVERVIEW
A month of Ws, shaky towards the end but sticking the landings. Felix Braun might just be our ticket to get out of this division, between him and Karger grabbing ten goals this month. Please do not drop them guys!
LEAGUE TABLE
Illertissen finally dropped some points to push five clear of them, plus a massive gap now to third place Eichstätt. Can we finally break the curse this year?
@Shedender takes the next leg of this journey. For the love of God, do not bottle this.
Shedender
Two games played before the mid-season break and hey, at least you're getting value for money.
And now the gap has been opened to seven points.
Shedender
Two terrible results to end my stint at 1860 Munich and now it'll be up to @Dan to take over until the end of the season.
DNZY
Dan
Struggling start losing to second place Eichstatt. We then went on a seven game unbeaten run which saw us win five and draw two. Struggled to finish the season on a high though as we lost five three and three one.
CHAMPIONS! PROMOTION!! Third time lucky and we're going up! I've managed to sort what @Shedender and @DNZY have failed to do the last couple of seasons.
The promotion also sees the board decide to upgrade our stadium.
DNZY
DNZY
Two more years at Die Löwen, as long as we keep our sh!t together.
All amid rumours that we'd jump ship to Ingolstadt. Nein chance.
TRANSFERS
OUT
Four had their contracts axed, two of which were our goalkeepers. Bonmann simply had no intention of staying, while Hiller just doesn't measure up to the 3.Liga estimate. Ziereis was a difficult one, taking up a chunk of the wage budget for a player who is like a hot/cold tap - carefully thought decision to let him go.
Not only that, Lippert was sold on to second tier Karlsruhe after just one season. 100% profit so alls well that ends well.
IN
Kept it cheap with frees and loans. Perhaps more to come.
Niklas Lomb - GK - free transfer from Bayer Leverkusen
Goalkeeping crisis averted with a well known dead piece of wood from Die Werkself. Similar quality, shaving off two inches in height and adding a couple of kilos in strength. Far more determined, slightly more agile and totally more eccentric. Let's hope that's a good trait rather than a destructive one.
Güven Yalçın - ST(C) - season long loan from RB Leipzig
First of two Leipzig loanees. A Turkish striker who has the tendency to slip out to the wings in a system change. Strong finisher, comfortable dribbler and adds a burst of speed. His lack of balance might hinder his ability to apply accuracy and is known to be a little bit selfish. Risky one, but one I was willing to take on.
Michele Rizzi - DM/M(C) - unattached free agent
Exciting addition to the midfield and provides the third tier experience we so desperately need. Above average technical abilities coupled with well rounded mentals make this 32 year old a priority in our team in exchange for a wealthy weekly wage. Set piece specialist too which is another thing we're crying out for.
Manuel Wintzheimer - ST(C) - season long loan from RB Leipzig
Taking a right gamble here with Manuel in context that he's almost identical to his Leipzig team mate Yalçın. The key is depth in rotation and perhaps an overload on our current system. As long as they bang in goals, who am I to question it. Praying it'll pay off (which is ironic as we're covering zilch of their parent club's wages).
FRIENDLIES
Preseason went steady, two wins, two defeats and a silly draw. Rizzi helped himself to four goals, Yalçın with two against Club Brugge and Wintzheimer bagged one. Good solid crowd for the Brugge game, double who turned up to the Stade Reims game. Certainly got their money's worth.
In unrelated news, this is exactly why promotion was quintessential to our revival.
Top half expected for the league, granted their are a fair share of top tier B teams involved (Dortmund, Bayern, Gladbach, Wolfsburg etc.), welp. Have yet to break the curse of passing the first round in the DFB-Pokal so they've let us off there and as for the Bavarian cup...do we really need to do that sh#thole cup again?!
DFB-POKAL
FIRST ROUND DRAW
Segwaying nicely into the next topic. 2. Bundesliga side Heidenheim provide the first test.
BAYERISCHER POKAL
FIRST ROUND DRAW
Yeah mate, totally looking forward to this game.
12-1 is pretty brave considering our squad is gravely poor compared to a lot of other sides. Who knows?
DNZY
NEW SIGNING
Leipzig are vultures for any free agents with exciting potential, bidding at the eleventh hour to scoop Knoop from under us.
HOWEVER...we still loaned him in the very next day. (Ignore the stars until you see him).
Niclas Knoop - D(C) - season long loan from RB Leipzig
Would have been a great long term investment for a defence who are in dire straits (see results) but will do for the short term. Has got the beef for a teenager with the defensive triad on point. Let go by Dortmund in the summer, if only I would have found him sooner.
More investments as our stadium expansion is complete to facilitate 3.Liga rules. Lets hope the attendances skyrocket with a step up to where they once were.
3.LIGA
MATCHDAY 1
Despite the good start, it all fell apart on the opener. Rizzi got the league opener off with a bang converting a penalty but Jena's response was positive to flip the game before half time. Looked completely stretched after the break to hand the home side a further instalment to their lead via George Lapsile. Sam Schreck restored a glimmer of hope but Steinhart got unlucky with an own goal. Food for thought.
MATCHDAY 2
Güven Yalçın, hang your head in shame. The Turk squandered four clear cut chances but it honestly wouldn't have been enough to take down a far superior Dortmund seconds. Jadon Sancho and Sergio Gómez were on another level, but their opener was straight route one to Zjawinski which had me fuming. Gómez delivered the swoop to knock us out cold.
MATCHDAY 3
Defensively far more organised, reducing Hamburg seconds to long range efforts. Sadly the one moment we switched off they exploited it, Bartkowiak the culprit. Florent Muslija went AWOL in the first two games but appeared here to slam home the equaliser from Kindsvater's cross. Much improved to get our first points on the board.
Schreck's injury throws a spanner in the works for my system.
MATCHDAY 4
And just like that, we're straight back to zero. Bordered on embarrassing with our midfield failing to string five yard passes together. Magdeburg's Beck and Thy totally ran the show to have us dead and buried by the end of the half, totally disregarding Sefering's excellent goal back. At least we drew the second half 0-0...
MATCHDAY 5
Rejoice! We've got a win to our name! Würzburg were gifted the opener after some comical defending from a corner, truly circus material. The response was positive and Muslija looked superb as himself and Steinhart from left back combined twice to overturn the scoreline and nearly completed a well deserved hat-trick. More of this please!
DFB-POKAL
FIRST ROUND
The curse continues. Scoreline maybe a little harsh on us as we threw our bodies on the line for most of it until just before the first half ended with Mambimbi. Honestly we had forward momentum getting into the right areas, yet somehow losing the ball before pulling the trigger - two occasions leading to Heidenheim goals, both gently finished by Glatzel. One day we'll reach the second round, one day.
BAYERISCHER POKAL
FIRST ROUND
Felix Braun on target in a flavourless waste of ninety minutes.
SECOND ROUND DRAW
Next up are the mighty unpronounceables.
RESULTS OVERVIEW
Definitely rougher than the Regionalliga, three defeats and only one win so far. Wintzheimer has been off tune and Yalçın is completely tonedeaf. Muslija's performance against Würzburg might be the lift we need to improve on this.
LEAGUE TABLE
Dangling above the bottom four, but I do take positives knowing that even Bayern II are struggling in this tier right now.
Next up to the plate is the mighty bottler @Shedender. Hopefully you'll see out the rest of your stint before you pass it on!
Shedender
This has proven to be more difficult then I thought it was going to be although it doesn't help that the defenders can't defend, the strikers can't score and the wingers can't, well, er, wing? It's been brutal stuff so far bar the expected Bayrischer Cup win. We squandered a 3-1 lead away to Wolfsburg II in the first game this month and conceded two late goals to lose to Hertha Berlin II in the final game this month. Brutal.
1860 Munich remain in the relegation zone with just one win to their name.
Shedender
Last update I said "this is brutal", well it hasn't gotten any better as we've yet to taste our second victory in the league this season but we did pick up a credible draw against league leaders Gladbach II but lost away to both Rostock and Paderborn in between. Yet again the side progressed in the Bayrischer.
We remain fourth bottom but with a game in hand. Players are beginning to get pissed off due to the clubs poor league position but yet they're not the ones performing so, yeah. We are seven points adrift and really need to start winning matches before the gap gets larger, and larger and larger.
Shedender
Wow. I actually guided 1860 Munich to their second league win of the season in my final game following a 2-0 away success against Saarbrucken.
We are second bottom though and now it's up to @Dan to ensure we build on that success away to Saarbrucken as we look to escape the dreaded relegation. We are currently four points behind fifth bottom Grobaspach.
Dan
Some good news to start the update off with. After a couple of failed attempts we've finally got ourselves a parent club. Had the choice out of
Borussia'A German Team' or Hoffenheim. The first of the two was the better deal for us financially, hopefully we end up with a couple of good loan deals from them too.Don't know what the issues are from the other boys, I ended up finding my stint of fixtures fairly straight forward, seemed to go to plan. Just the two competitive defeats in my stint with both of them coming in the league. But plenty of green dots finally added to our schedule which looks much better than what Shedender had left me with. We're also into the cup Semi Final, a cup we've won twice in our three seasons in charge.
Any fear of relegation is quickly easing, the board were threatening us with the sack when I took charge, luckily we've managed to change our fortunes once again and climb the table nicely. We're now up to eleventh in the table, moving nine points clear from relegation. Any hopes of promotion are very unlikely but we're building for the future, next year could be our year.
