Did the board not inject any money when they took over? Unless you're in debt surely they would want to give you some funds to improve the playing side of the club. Some tough games coming up in August mate best of luck

Thanks. Nope, they didn't. Nothing's changed, finances I don't believe are atrocious but no transfer budget to speak of.

Unlucky, my man. This is quite the challenge! I'll be keeping tabs - don't think I've ever managed in South America!

It is! Even though it can be massively frustrating at times, I kinda like it as it keeps it pretty realistic - you won't see me winning the Libertadores anytime soon! I'd certainly recommend managing in South America, it's nice to branch out and try different leagues on FM.

August/September 2019 Round-up:

Upcoming Fixtures:

https://sortitoutsi.net/uploads/mirrored_images/nf0yjOalHXjKq2IlYHCfQCn0fDx1agWQy95VnFkM.png

My first season in charge of El Tanque Sisley in Uruguay's Segunda División has come to a close, with our objective of avoiding relegation looking like it might become reality coming into this period. To achieve our goal, we had to gain a positive outcome from these final six league fixtures. The games themselves are pretty evenly split, facing three promotion chasers and three teams around us in the standings.
https://sortitoutsi.net/uploads/mirrored_images/UKT7vT1zYbxXbHJ7ZDeP46Z4szpbQ3dyZNkVG0Xi.png

Game 1: El Tanque Sisley (URU) vs. Juventud (URU) (Segunda División)

https://sortitoutsi.net/uploads/mirrored_images/LJh4gJqjiPqYkoCI5P40C8WGfXTAGzdDHIwVLH5C.png

Thoughts: Juventud met us in August's opening encounter, we held one of the promotion favourites to a goalless draw. As the media item says, they usually score a good amount of goals so to keep them at zero is a good thing.

https://sortitoutsi.net/uploads/mirrored_images/UKT7vT1zYbxXbHJ7ZDeP46Z4szpbQ3dyZNkVG0Xi.png
Game 2: Danubio (URU) vs. El Tanque Sisley (URU) (Segunda División)

https://i.imgur.com/apy0hwc.png

Thoughts: Our rearguard wasn't quite so strong seven days later against league leaders Danubio, as the four-time Primera División champion stormed past us 4-0.

https://sortitoutsi.net/uploads/mirrored_images/UKT7vT1zYbxXbHJ7ZDeP46Z4szpbQ3dyZNkVG0Xi.png
Game 3: El Tanque Sisley (URU) vs. Rocha (URU) (Segunda División)

https://sortitoutsi.net/uploads/mirrored_images/3hKrw7FU5roDuUy6xt2W6Wpui45CpfwKOhPI5Ek2.png

Thoughts: Now this was a poor result. We failed to beat bottom of the table Rocha at home, admittedly it was semi-positive as we stopped them from gaining points on us but overall we should have had enough about us to beat them. However, this result was actually enough to confirm our league status. We'll be playing Segunda División next season!

https://sortitoutsi.net/uploads/mirrored_images/UKT7vT1zYbxXbHJ7ZDeP46Z4szpbQ3dyZNkVG0Xi.png
Game 4: Bella Vista (URU) vs. El Tanque Sisley (URU) (Segunda División)

https://sortitoutsi.net/uploads/mirrored_images/wNJ5uuNXO526FK40j3m2ImZQai8VMhtrVaHN8vVP.png

Thoughts: Bella Vista were a side close to us in the table, so a win over them was wanted. Marcos Lyford Pike stepped up big time with two goals to seal a comeback victory.

https://sortitoutsi.net/uploads/mirrored_images/UKT7vT1zYbxXbHJ7ZDeP46Z4szpbQ3dyZNkVG0Xi.png
Game 5: El Tanque Sisley (URU) vs. Torque (URU) (Segunda División)

https://sortitoutsi.net/uploads/mirrored_images/LjauTFryFhrVaPigfNmssXJcd4o2rEKl3jIYjsIx.png

Thoughts: Back-to-back wins! Excellent win over top half Torque, Lyford Pike netting again.

https://sortitoutsi.net/uploads/mirrored_images/UKT7vT1zYbxXbHJ7ZDeP46Z4szpbQ3dyZNkVG0Xi.png
Game 6: El Tanque Sisley (URU) vs. Deportivo Maldonado (URU) (Segunda División)

https://sortitoutsi.net/uploads/mirrored_images/ZbKGF1XgWfv6M2Zwgq876l24uhJpjuAaN4yusfD0.png

Thoughts: We were guaranteed at least a very respectable tenth place finish by this final matchday, but faced Deportivo Maldonado with the potential to overtake them into the top nine. Sadly, that didn't happen as we played out a 1-1 draw.

Diego Forlán, who is set to retire soon, scored our goal in what looks like his final match as a player. I say 'looks' as I've asked him to reconsider, as you can see below (even at 40) most his attributes are still on the rise; great experience to have around, too.

Recap: I see that as a successful season. Nothing flashy but we got our job done, it's realistic to expect baby steps this early on into my reign. Next season needs to be more of the same, if not better. I feel like I have a decent platform to build on, as this campaign we pretty much beat the teams we needed to whilst also playing well here and there against the bigger clubs. If I can get our off-season things right, including transfers, then I'm confident we can make more steps forward in 2020.

By the end of 2019, we finished 10th in the regular season table but went one better and placed 9th in the average points table, finishing well above the drop.

Good to hear, thanks Dan! Hoping it won't just be the only decent season with the club, need to build on it.

A solid season there mate, shame Diego is looking to retire hopefully he'll reconsider and stay for one more season but I'm sure this season has gave you a solid foundation to build on for next season.

Looking forward to what next season has to offer!

Disappointing not to be given some money after the takeover but still good going all things considered. Are you staying next season or is it time to move on?

Thanks! I hope so, I've personally rarely seen a player reconsider - he wouldn't be a key member of the team next season, but would like for him to be one of the key squad players who plays when needed. He does want to be an assistant manager or coach, so could get him to stay that way. We'll see!

Indeed. Hopefully I can get a few good players for low fees in the upcoming window. Definitely staying, not sure for how long - ideally keep building year on year. I never put any aims on my Journeyman saves - mainly because I'm not good enough to make them happen - I just see what occurs, just as happy to stay at a club long-term than I am to move about regularly.

Pre-season 2020 Round-up:

Upcoming Fixtures:

https://sortitoutsi.net/uploads/mirrored_images/4AWzj9D0sm7ndEL2IdxdmrKytHs3X2jQjyWx1KzK.png

That was what awaited my team as we began the 2020 season. The off-season is about so much more though, I've been working hard to try and bring in players to help us, hopefully, improve on our respectable and above expectation 10th place finish in 2019. Let's get straight into it with the friendlies.
https://sortitoutsi.net/uploads/mirrored_images/UKT7vT1zYbxXbHJ7ZDeP46Z4szpbQ3dyZNkVG0Xi.png

Game 1: El Tanque Sisley (URU) vs. Tabaré de Florida (URU) (Friendly)

https://sortitoutsi.net/uploads/mirrored_images/wtvzqORPoQkVvYvBBKNt3Y1w76TxQ1DuBPvkhmqt.png

Thoughts: Domination in our first friendly, we put six past lower league Tabaré de Florida with new signings Jonathan Castellanos and Brian Scalco netting goals.

https://sortitoutsi.net/uploads/mirrored_images/UKT7vT1zYbxXbHJ7ZDeP46Z4szpbQ3dyZNkVG0Xi.png
Game 2: El Tanque Sisley (URU) vs. Cerro (URU) (Friendly)

https://sortitoutsi.net/uploads/mirrored_images/7LVKzxCBvhuNG6rY54Nv2B4r3nxIjXALMn157TIh.png

Thoughts: The exact opposite in match two, as the country's third best club (based on 2019 finish) Cerro tore us apart.

https://sortitoutsi.net/uploads/mirrored_images/UKT7vT1zYbxXbHJ7ZDeP46Z4szpbQ3dyZNkVG0Xi.png
Game 3: Alto Perú (URU) vs. El Tanque Sisley (URU) (Friendly)

https://sortitoutsi.net/uploads/mirrored_images/6cImMCJxcWzq2kdFeouGKSaFMQyhmvXj7FlKQhB2.png

Thoughts: Alto Perú were narrowly defeated here on penalties, pretty poor performance versus a team we should be beating - but at least we got the victory eventually.

https://sortitoutsi.net/uploads/mirrored_images/UKT7vT1zYbxXbHJ7ZDeP46Z4szpbQ3dyZNkVG0Xi.png
Game 4: Centenario Uruguayo (URU) vs. El Tanque Sisley (URU) (Friendly)

https://sortitoutsi.net/uploads/mirrored_images/svn70SSoZzRniH2wCfUQNjNsli1lkyv75aOQXX6l.png

Thoughts: Santiago Segovia's sole goal led us to the win over Centenario Uruguayo. Not much more to that fixture, a rather dull affair despite us being dominant.

https://sortitoutsi.net/uploads/mirrored_images/UKT7vT1zYbxXbHJ7ZDeP46Z4szpbQ3dyZNkVG0Xi.png
Game 5: Mar de Fondo (URU) vs. El Tanque Sisley (URU) (Friendly)

https://sortitoutsi.net/uploads/mirrored_images/xcvjZv901efhWdaBUvwAuLZmPKyTZzecdOz4oHWA.png

Thoughts: Our penultimate pre-season friendly ended with a four-goal win over Mar de Fondo, Castellanos scored a hat-trick to take his exhibition match tally to five goals - strong beginnings, hopefully he carries on in competitive action.

https://sortitoutsi.net/uploads/mirrored_images/UKT7vT1zYbxXbHJ7ZDeP46Z4szpbQ3dyZNkVG0Xi.png
Game 6: El Tanque Sisley (URU) vs. Defensa y Justicia (ARG) (Friendly)

https://sortitoutsi.net/uploads/mirrored_images/B9ayIUFAhm0KTPyR7NYsh6kJGlkoMLCq7NbRsPBz.png

Thoughts: Arguably our best performance of pre-season, despite the result. Argentine Primera División side Defensa y Justicia are a very good team, who we may have eventually lost to but we put up a very valiant effort. Castellanos scoring again was a major plus.

https://sortitoutsi.net/uploads/mirrored_images/UKT7vT1zYbxXbHJ7ZDeP46Z4szpbQ3dyZNkVG0Xi.png
Recap: A real mixed bag of results, the results with Cerro and Defensa y Justicia show that - two top clubs, but two differing performances. I was playing a different tactic towards the end of pre-season, so that might explain it. I don't know what to expect from this 2020 season.

Seven things to share.

A: First up: Transfers. Right-back Milton Ramos, left winger Brian Scalco, forward Jonathan Castellanos, goalkeeper Juan Falchi (perm.) and forward Ricardo Bueno all joined. Goalkeeper Diego Soria was the only notable departure.

B: Back to last season, here's the season review - where we were announced as the biggest overachievers.
https://sortitoutsi.net/uploads/mirrored_images/a3NfMaxSPc8slALfgEygu8By37w60H9mWLlBFMRs.png

C: As soon as the season ended, I went on my second coaching course - which I passed just before pre-season began. Nice timing.

https://sortitoutsi.net/uploads/mirrored_images/WfMlM7crHkLmQUzW9lfHK96FKyZ5cG9N2B3sj7x2.png

D: Here's the 2019 season's awards. Marcos Lyford Pike cleaned up, sadly he has missed much of pre-season due to injury - as has 'keeper Juan Falchi.
https://sortitoutsi.net/uploads/mirrored_images/cCdb7oCcabZwfKWsV7OaMKSQtDTAIzcVCjMh5T9r.png

E: Here's the 2020 season's expectations. Same as last year, I'm hoping for that as a bare minimum. However, my current contract ends in June, so I may not even be at the club at the end of the campaign - hopefully I will be.
https://sortitoutsi.net/uploads/mirrored_images/lGFlyavzPW03xCcfn6lhtJ00dGjUmOOhaDb1VKUW.png

F: Diego Forlán turned me down, therefore choosing to retire. He could've added something for us, but if his head wasn't going to be in it then there was no point. Two forwards have been signed in his place.
https://sortitoutsi.net/uploads/mirrored_images/G7u1zoo0vKS2CujflWlQFqrS5XIfyio1zp3rR5dp.png

https://sortitoutsi.net/uploads/mirrored_images/NNY740q4SRT5hHq5qosLobDEBpnREicvJlrQex4L.png

G: Lastly, some exciting news for the club: a new stadium is being planned. El Tanque Sisley currently play in Florida but their spiritual home is over in Montevideo, where the new stadium would be built. Long time away, it seems.
