Football in Vietnam has been steadily improving over the years with money being poured into youth academies even some of the big boys in Asia are now seeing “The Golden Dragons” as a legitimate threat when they take the field.
As of the 21st of November 2019, Vietnam is currently in the driver’s seat to advance to the third round of the 2022 World Cup Qualifiers in Asia something they have never achieved before. They also made the Quarter Finals of the 2019 Asian Cup losing narrowly to Japan 1-0 and the year before the U-23s were runners up in the 2018 U-23 Asian Championship losing in extra time to Uzbekistan.
Vietnam has all the makings of a fun and interesting save in Football Manager 2020 - You have a league pretty much unknown to the average football fan as well as a nation with a lot of promise. Obviously the end goal is to win the World Cup with the Golden Dragons but there is also winning the AFC Champions League and then the FIFA Club World Cup with a Vietnamese side or a real mammoth task - Make the V League 1 the most reputable league in Asia - To do this you may have to club hop a few times and win continental championships multiple times.
This file activates the V League 1, V League 2 and Vietnam National Second Division in Football Manager 2020. I used the 2019 structure and placings as I’m not 100% sure what team changes will be made for next season, especially in the lower tiers but if you follow Vietnamese football message me and I’ll update. I would also love to add the Vietnam National Third Division (Level 4) but can't find any information on teams for the 2019 season only 2018.
A few other things:
Prize money and participation money is a complete guess and I may be way off I couldn’t find any figures to put in so fantasy will have to do for now.
Foreign Player limit in V League 1 is set to 4. In real life it is 3 + an AFC player but I couldn’t find this in the editor so set it to 4 this also goes for the naturalised player rule which I left out completely but if your intention to play realistically then I trust you to follow the real life rules
Even though there is no playable league under the Vietnam National Second Division teams are still relegated each season and clubs in the database in the “Vietnam Lower League” competition are randomly promoted.
Another thing with the Vietnam National Second Division is that it is not split into North and South like real life instead it is randomly split so you get a bit of variety every season. Also two teams are relegated instead of one mainly because I didn’t want to convert to advanced rules and work out how to only get one team to relegate but if someone wants it as realistic as possible then I’ll try and work it out.
Players are the same as the normal FM database so there maybe some out of date information especially for the lower tiers. I may try to update and correct squads throughout the year.
If you notice any bugs or errors please let me know and I’ll try to fix them as soon as possible.
