Introduction

Hi,
For the last months I have been trying (like so many of us) to replicate Barcelona's tiki-taka. After long hours of reading and several experiences with other tactics that pretended the same, I have come to the conclusion that it's impossible. Why? For several reasons, starting that Barcelona in the same match uses several tactical options of FM 2013 at the same time. Example: Control but all out attack. First of all, you have to be able to set your team to keep passing the ball at opponent's half pitch and this is achieveable with an overcharge strategy, but doing this will leave your defence at the mercy of opponent counter-attack even if you set your defence line deeper.
Well, since this is not the thread to discuss this I will just present what I have come to...

Tactic

http://imageshack.us/a/img163/7479/fcportotcticasvistagera.png

Both tactics are a 4-3-3 (FM calls it 4-5-1, some users 4-1-2-2-1). Tactic 29 is a Control-Fluid tactic, offers more possession but for sure players will score lots of goals; Tactic 38 is an all out attack-very fluid tactic, pretends to crush opponents but you will suffer also more goals. I use both playing the same match, usually start with 38 and at half-time switch to 29 if I'm not pleased with the score.

Champions League (Group Stage)

Start the season in June in order to play several pre-season matches. It's VERY IMPORTANT prefered moves training, develop all aspects that enhances possession (play simple, likes one-twos, etc, etc).

Lectures
I prefered to give lectures to players, although I do not know the options in english. Collective Lectures: something like Assertive "I expect a win" and individual (both before the match) I have confidence.

Private Chat with player
One or two days after each match, private chat with each player... something like he's playing very well.

Do not try this tactics with lower league teams

Hello Miguel. I would like to ask you a few things:

1.) In general training what do you choose, the percent in scheduling and what in match training.
2.) Prefered moves: There are the same that you mention in your other topic?
3.) Do you change the lectures in the half time if your tume lose or win?

That for now!!! Thank you!!!

Hi,

It seems to work fine with the new update patch. I'm testing with Stoke City, pick the team at half of the season and I have been able to lead the team until now to 7th place (start training in November, currently in January) from 11th place.

1) It's important to start the game as soon as possible, like June, it will provide enough time to play friendly matches. During stage choose physical training at maximum intensity and when friendly matches start change to team work. During this period match training should be at maximum also, you can work attack movement or the several options until start of the season. When season starts reduce general training to medium intensity and pick team work and reduce match training to 20 or 30% (up to you) attacking movement.

2) Prefered moves should be worked as soon pre-season starts, check if your players have already some prefered moves and if they do and if these oppose to possesion they must be untrained (example: player prefered move Long Shots = untrained player). Players should be able to tackle opponents, tight marking, plays one-twos, play simple, and they must NOT run with ball (if player runs with the ball and do not have good attributes, likely we will loose it)

3) Chating and lectures are very important because it enhances moral. Sometimes I let my assistant coach talk to press before games and it is NOT a good option, because usually players get angry with what he says. So, loose some time talking with press, lecturing and chating... it's bored but it pays off :-) Before match collective lecture should be "I expect a win" (not sure if this is the correct lecture in english, check it), and individual lecture "I have confidence in you". At half-time even if you are winning do NOT lecture players that they are playing well, instead tell they can do better (collective and individual). After the game, one or two days after, chat with players, check the their game stats and tell them and glamorize them.

Thank you very much. I understand a lot of things. I forgot to ask you, you say that you start the match with 39 tactic and if you are not happy in the half time you change it. In 39 tactic you play more "attacking football" so in the half time the only thing that may had been wrong would be to lose!!! So why do you change to tactic 29 that is not so "attacking"? How you are going to win?

the main difference is that with 29 players waste more time, i.e., they have less urgency to make decisions, but this does not mean 29 is less attacking. Players will continue to press very high but main objective is to keep the ball in opponent's field... so doing this, having more time to think / make decisions, the team will creat goal opportunities.

Hi Miguel, tried it with Arsenal vs Liverpool just now. Plenty of possession and won deservedly 1-0.

I have a question.

You say pressure always.

Does that mean "closing down" all the Liverpool players in oppsition instructions?

And also, do you use any SHOUTS?

Sincerly

I don't use shouts, players have already all the instructions they need but if you are curious try it :-)

Yes, closing down all

Tactics may need some changes due to the new patch update.

The new patch? Yes, well, I will try again right now, I have only played two games with your tactic.

Have you noticed significant differences in regards to your tactic vs new patch?

Well, I will see what happens to me now..

Yes, but for now I have set creative freedom to zero for all players and it is working fine for me.

Along with FC Porto, I am managing Tottenham - Vilas Boas was sent off in December-, only played 2 matches, 3-1 against Arsenal and 1-2 against Everton (very, very unfair).

I've tried it a Season long with Ajax... One game was good, the next one wasn't... It seems like a mix of results and I've won nothing...

Eredivisie: 3rd

KNVB Beker: out in third round (against PSV)

Euro League: out (against Stuttgart - 4:2 won at home and then lost 0:2 away)

I try it another season and hope to go better with it...

Obrigado!

Bom, desde que partilhei estas duas tácticas já foram lançados 2 patch update, um deles mexeu bastante com o jogo, portanto é natural que já não funcionem. Eu próprio deixei de as usar e criei outras :-)

Yes indeed, but it's not working because Barcelona does not play how it uses to with Guardiola, the team is pressing deeper and is unable to recover the ball high on the pit and this makes all the difference.
