The World Cup final was a repeat of the Euros one, with Italy coming out on top again.

Our re-start hasn't been great, 4 draws from 7 games isn't good enough. On the other hand we were quite dominant in the games against Feyenoord, AZ and PSV, so that should give confidence. A difficult week now with games against Ajax and Twente, but it looks like we could get in a large amount of points at the end of the season with weaker opponents.

The transfer window has now passed as well, these were the major deals:

Our window has been very quiet, with no players departing and the squad being good in terms of depth already. The only thing we were struggling with was the registration rules in Europe, the lack of Dutch players is breaking is up now.

So we brought in talented winger Daan Rots for €600k

And then De Waal we could pick up for only €25k, could become a handy rotation player.

And lastly we also know that one of these 16 teams will be our opponent in the second knockout round, being played on the 2nd of March.

Copenhagen it is, all though we won't actually be travelling there as it's only a 1-leg tie.

9 points from these last 3 games is a great, we were even close to knocking out Ajax and getting into the cup semi-final.

10 games to go and this is the table. With games against Heerenveen and Groningen coming up we could well take that 5th spot, but it's also easy to drop down to 12th. It seems like it will be very close until the final matchday, just like last year.

They lined up with 4 ex-Eredivisie players in Sinkgraven, Boilesen, Van Hecke and Daramy. 3 very dangerous attackers that we have to stop off as much as possible.

In the end stopping them off turned out to be very hard and Copenhagen definitely deserved to win. Four minutes of injury time were added, but we somehow scored the winning goal in the 97th with most players being absolutely battered and 2 even needing to leave the pitch.

The other results:

The quarter final it is then, against a top quality opponent.

An eventual semi-final will be against AA Gent or Betis, but I'm doubting we will get there…

3 wins and 2 draws from the last 5 league games

Which puts us in a comfortable position, 5th place would even mean a straight Europa League group stage ticket. It also seems that it will be really hard for NEC to avoid relegation now, the season after they finished 2nd!

The away game was very tough. We did get some shots in, but ultimately Rennes was very dominant. Luckily they had another goal disallowed around the 80th minute, otherwise it would have been game-over already.

With 2-1 there was still hope to cause a shock result in the home leg. It turned out to be a spectacular evening with loads of chances on both ends. Getting that 2-1 on the scoreline was already an achievement, and holding out to a penalty shoot-out even more. Our goalie Tim Rönning is having a great season, so I had no doubt that we would win this one. New signing Juan Carlos Portillo still has difficulties with adapting to his new environment, so it's even more special that he could be the one to shoot us into the semi-final!

We will head to the Benito Villamarín on the 4th of May, after hopefully having set out a solid result in the home leg. Lining up against players like Nabil Fekir sounds ridiculous, and it has really shown how much this club has grown over the past 2 seasons. Reaching a European final would be the dream ending of our project here!

Line-ups for the first leg:

Another MOTM performance from Tim Rönning says it all, this is unbelievable! Betis couldn't make their chances count and we got in 2 clean goals (a bit of luck with getting a penalty). As long as we don't mess up big time in Spain, we are heading for the final in Belgrade…

At the same time there are only 2 games left in the league, the next tie away at Utrecht will be massive. If we get 3 points, there's still a big chance of getting into 5th place. If we lose, the play-offs will be waiting for us again, which won't be ideal in combination with playing a final.

The full matchdays, Heerenveen has a tough trip to AZ so will hopefully slip points there

Seems like I celebrated too early, we got absolutely trashed down there in front of almost 60,000 people…

But we miraculously kept the score at 2-0 and held on to another penalty shoot-out, and you can't lose those when you have Tim Rönning in goal!

A very interesting clash against Leicester is up now. They are in big relegation trouble in the Premier League, but have somehow knocked out Borussia Mönchengladbach and Napoli to get here. There are still 5 league games left for them to play until even after the final, while we have only 1. That could give a small advantage.

Matchday 33 went exactly how we wanted, with Heerenveen losing points. Now there are still 4 teams that could finish in 5th place, and 4 teams that can possibly be relegated as well.

A perfect ending to the season, we can be very content with a 5th place finish. Unfortunately it seems like the game has bugged out a bit again and we have been awarded a Conference League ticket instead of a Europa League one, but we will have to see how that plays out.

Willem II will also be very happy with a win over AZ, thereby leaping over NEC and Sparta and avoiding relegation all together.

The player stats:

Now it's a 17-day period until the final. We will set up some friendlies to keep the squad as sharp as possible. The only issue we have is an injury for Vita, it looks like he won't be able to make it which is a real shame.

The big day is finally here…

The line-ups:

The first half was a perfect summary of our season so far in Europe. After a nervous start from both sides, Leicester was fairly dominating, but we were 2-0 up after only having 2 shots on target.

The fairytale did come to an end here though. In the 55th minute they already got awarded a penalty that was saved in the end, but 4 minutes later the 2-1 was on the scoreboard. Leicester kept pushing and pushing, it was just a matter of time before the equaliser would be scored. Their red card in the 77th minute gave some hope, but shortly after that Harvey Barnes got loads of space to be able to score his second goal. We were forced to take off an injured Nikolaševic, so it was 10 vs 10 again during extra time. There was little to no power left in the squad, and in the end the quality and experience of the Premier League side is what got them the win here.

Of course Burak became the competition's top scorer

Some player showcases:

Has developed into one of the team's key players, and is now also Sweden's first choice goalkeeper
Very solid in his first season, Siovas has now chosen to retire so he will probably start all games next season
Still developing steadily
Quite a solid player, but is now decling and has decided to leave on a free to Trabzonspor
Mainly used as a sub last year, but has developed really nice and become a trustworthy starting player
Very solid, goal contributions have gone up but I think he is able to score even more
39 goals at the age of 38, the king has done his job again

And that's now the end of our season and project here. Ivo Pinto, Dimitris Siovas and Mario Suárez have all chosen to retire and Oğuzhan Özyakup will be leaving on a free to Trabzonspor. I was going to say Burak will have a task at hand to replace them, but it seems like I haven't set the database up correctly and he won't actually be promoted to manager. This means the job is still available, maybe one of you is interested in taking it on? The link for the save file is down below. I will be charging up for FM23 now, thanks for reading.

If you do decide to play on, please feel free to post updates in this thread! Would love to see how the club develops
