Gāday, mate! Fancy a crack at managing the Central Coast Mariners, the pride of Gosford and home to some of the best beachesāand banterāin Australia?
In the real world, the Mariners stormed the A-League, finishing top with 55 points and pulling off a spectacular double by winning the AFC Cup. But in our FM universe, theyāve hit a snag, sitting third from bottom after 10 games. With 16 games to go, all hopeās not lost. The catch? You can only afford to drop 3 points if you want to match their real-life points tally. And as for that AFC Cup? Sure, youāll see "AFC Cup Semi-Final" pop up on the fixture list, but donāt go dusting off the trophy cabinet just yet, youāre alot more than 2 games away from silverware. This is only the ASEAN Zone Semi-Finalāthen thereās the Interzone Playoff Semi-Final and Final, followed by the actual AFC Cup Final. Confusing? Mate, tell me about it, welcome to the wild and wonderful world of Asian football. Donāt stress, just down another schooner and push on!
The challenge kicks off on January 10th, the start of the mid-season transfer window. So, grab the chance to sign some reinforcements, or maybe even convince a few locals to swap their thongs (flip-flops, to you poms!) for footy boots and give it a crack on the pitch.
Hereās how to get on the medal table this time around:
Points Scoring
Bronze š„ - 2 points - Win the A League
Silverš„ - 3 points - Win both the A League and AFC Cup
Gold š„ - 5 points - Win the A League and AFC Cup whilst at least equaling the Mariners real life points total of 55
Rules
- You must use the manager already in the save file. You cannot create a new manager. This so that all managers have the same attributes and experience.
- You cannot create any new managers.
- You cannot save before a match and then reload.
- You must have at most one weekly auto save. More saves than this will be deemed suspicious.
- You cannot use the in game editor or any other editor.
How it works
Every week we will release a new FM24 Challenge.
Each challenge is designed to be quick to play. Usually half a season or less.
Complete the challenge to score points and be in with a chance to win prizes.
You do not have to complete the challenge that week. Each challenge will remain open until FM25 BETA is released.
All you have to do is play FM for a few hours and then submit a few screenshots of how you got on. Easy right?
Point Scoring
The scoring system works the same as the Olympics. You have the chance to win Gold, Silver or Bronze. Fail to make it to Europe? You won't get a medal and will score 0 points.
Gold š„ - 5 points
Silverš„ - 3 points
Bronze š„ - 2 points
These points will take you on to the Overall Leaderboard. Each week we will release a new FM24 Challenge giving you more chances to win Gold, Silver and Bronze and total up your overall points.
Each Challenge has its own leaderboard. Since lots of people will inevitably win gold there are a series of tie breakers to decide your position.
Tie Breakers
- Total Points won (3 for win, 1 draw, 0 for loss)
- Total Games Won
- Total Goal Difference
- Total Goals Scored
- Total Chances Created
- Total Average Possession
God help me if we actually get to Total Average Possession as a tie breaker, i'll make something else up at the time.
Prizes
Overall Winner = A copy of Football Manager 2025
Weekly Challenge Winner = Premium Membership
The winner will be chosen before the FM25 BETA is released so the winner can play FM25 straight away. We do not know the date for this yet. If the date is given as something vague like āRoughly 2 weeks before full release dateā we will conservatively announce the winner the Saturday before 2 weeks. I know this is vague but we will get given an official announcement by SI soon and this text will be updated and made clearer.
How to install
The download is a .fm file which is an FM Save Game.
Option 1) When you open FM and click āLoad Gameā and click ābrowseā in the top right hand corner. Then find where you saved the file, probably your downloads folder.
Option 2) Move the file to your default saved game folder, it should then appear when clicking āLoad Gameā. The location is:
Windows: Documents/Sports Interactive/Football Manager 2022/editor data
Mac: /Users/<yourname>/Library/Application Support/Sports Interactive/Football Manager 2024/games
On mac you may find it easier to Open Finder > Click Go in the toolbar > Go to folder > Paste this ā~/Library/Application Support/Sports Interactive/Football Manager 2024/gamesā

I hate this league systemā¦ this teamā¦ and the person who made this challenge š
DumbDumbo
Thisā¦ might've quite literally been the WORST team i have ever managed, 30+ shots every game and unable to score.. constantly hitting the crossbar and what not, every single shot against us was basically a goal.. just this AFC final Al-Khalidiya had like .60xg and the game was 5-4 then ofc they scored a banger from like 35meters in ET to win it 5-6 cause why the hell not. š

So frustrating. Did really well, EXCEPT losing a couple in the league, so didn't win the bloody A-League. Came 2nd. Won the Finals, and the AFC Cup though.
Arrrgggghhhh.
(Also yes, the icon is Jason Cummings, the ex-Central Coast Mariners player)

Dylan Wenzel-Halls - top top top

How do you get your Stats to show? Everyone else's are showing, mine are not (but I'm showing in the tables) - am I missing something obvious?

2nd try - delete 1st go if worse

It's a shame I didn't get the 55 points.
By the way, Moukoko's tactics are brutal, a total miracle.
I've got 2nd position in regular season but I've won A-League finals (plus Asian Confederation Cup)
PS: sorry for the screenshots in different skins, I often use the Mustermann iconic skin which hides some numbers, as you know.
I've added here fixtures, only for Asian Confederation Cup, to check results:

A Central Coast Mariners FC supporter from Malaysia was seen humming to āWaltzing Matildaā as skipper Brian Kaltak lifted the Asian Confederation Cup trophy at the Industree Group Stadium following a 3-0 win over Oman's Al-Nahda Al-Buraimi in the final. Good on ya, mate!

I think I filled it in correctly. Didn't really know if I should have put the previously played games of the AFC Cup, but hey, feel free to change.
What was most crucial was that I made some nice signings - for example bringing in Micah Hamilton on a loan (unfortunately missed the registration for the AFC Cup by ONE day - or even less than that tbf.) As always, I am cheesing all transfers making them UNBEARABLE in the long term and viable in the short-term.
Used the same tactic that I used last time out - and it turned out to be really good once more. Beat a North Korean side 11-1 in the first leg of the AFC Semis for example.
As always, happy to post my save file if anyone wants to check it.
[I also added the Semi Final score and the Great Final in the League score]
MeGaMaN-
Got to love it when the guys who submit their results having won every single match have scrolled down on the ātimes savedā bit of the game status screenshot š
Kalle Kutt
Mine is fully visible. I spend a lot of time on it fixing stuff and setting up coaching etc. Sometimes I just save a couple of times for a while so I don't lose like a few hours worth of progress. This didn't need so much setup, coaching and scouting tbf.

Mateā¦i have nothing to say about this save. i went on holiday and my team was scoring double figures. absolute madness.

@Footygamer , I am not sure why this is not āapprovedā yet. I've changed it twice and still in "pending" status due to a mismatch between numbers and screenshots.
Sorry to bother you but, could you please tell me where exactly the error is? thanks a million!!!
