Minus the loss to Leeds it was an as expected pre season. Plenty of game time for all players and looking good for the season ahead.
Our first month has started the same as every other season. Verrrry slow. Dunno why it takes so long for us to find form especially as I rarely make big changes to the side so they should already be gelled.
Leaves us sitting 11th, 7 points off Lyon, who surprisingly are dominating the comp. Oh by the way to takeover fell through so they don't have any more or less money to spend then previous seasons.
P.s Paco who I had on loan a few seasons back and scored 18 goals for me but didn't wanna leave Barca permanently signed for PSG for 32m
mr.SPANKY
Not a good way to start the campaign, we were 15 to win the tournament so they think we can be there abouts again this season.
BAM, very next game
mr.SPANKY
So half way stage in the league and things are looking pretty rosey. It is the tightest it has been though, a couple bad results could see me drop to 6th before I know it.
After the slow start and the thumping by Arsenal we started to put it together and were absolutely pumping teams. Goals were coming from everywhere and just to give you an idea at this stage I have 3 players with over 10 goals, 2 with 5 and all but 7 of my regular 18 scoring goals.
But alas something has to go wrong and the injury crisis hits, I saw 5 of my starting 11 out for between 6 days and 5 weeks, this coincided with the 2 draws and the loss to St Etienne towards the end there.
Onto champions league news now....
Like I said after the Arsenal thumping we started to put it together except for the games against Betis. We just never threatened them but the 3-0 victory over Arsenal was sooooo sweeeeeeet.
Unfortunately due to those poor results against Betis we failed to make it through and got drawn against Porto in the Europa league 1st knockout.
mr.SPANKY
Only signing for the window. Position I am probably weakest in. The two I was trying to get rid of earlier have signed pre contracts and will be gone come end of the season.
mr.SPANKY
Second time they have been rumored to take over, it's the money he's throwing around I'm worried about.
mr.SPANKY
Wasn't getting a run in the French squad so chose the Ivory Coast instead. Well deserved.

Nope just France, even worse Boyer my midfield maestro hasn't had a call up either. 30 years old just finished a 7.62 season in the league with 11 goals and 7 assists and can't get a go either. Giroud needs to be sacked as manager of France lol.
Bottled it in the end. 3 losses, aside from Marseille last season with 2 it's been 4 seasons since anyone has lost so few. In the final 12 games I had draws with Monaco, Arles, Sochaux, Lille and Evian as well as a loss to Marseille which cost us 2nd spot. The end of the day we should really have won 4 of those 6 games which would have given us the title.
Ah well on to next season and the step up I hope.
Really was pissed off with these results, should have walked over Porto. I could stomach the 1-1 but the loss at home was a disgrace. To make it even worse Porto went on the have the pick of the draw until the final when they went down 2-0 to Leverkusen.
Once again my rotation policy for cup games has cost me any chance of a trophy.
Final half of the fixture list. Impressive with only the one loss to Marseille, and a very good draw with PSG, as I said before though the draws toward the end cost us the title. Injuries and suspensions just took it's toll.
Sissoko and Diallo can do no wrong, might not have the greatest attributes but compliment each other so well and are probably the best CB pairing in the country. They really are that good that despite Makiadi being a superior player with greater potential he doesn't get a run.
Lorber continues to lead the team, 9 goals and 11 assists in the league, he is approaching 30 though so the lookout for his replacement has begun.
Knauer and Marcos are both gone come July 1st as they just can't cut it anymore. They were solid freebies during the early stages of my career here but now I can attract better quality so they are gone.
N'Diaye once again missed a fair few games through injury and suspension, it really showed how much Boyer relies on him in that deep lying playmaker role because he struggled when N'Diaye was away. 7 goals and 4 assists he sets up the team nicely.
Boyer is once again the only one who could challenge Sissoko for player of the year, he was immense but dropped off when N'diaye was away due to not having a proper deep lying playmaker to replace him. 11 goals 7 assists, most of his goals were 25 plus yards, he deserves a France call up.
Aka is really starting to come into his own, when I first got him he was struggling to get into the side, only through injury and age of Rousseau did he get his chance and he has flourished. He now owns that left hand wing spot 6 goals and a huge 10 assists in the league is awesome. He is still only 22 so will get better.
Igor had 13 goals and 6 assists in the league, this is down to playing him as a deep lying forward instead of a poacher now, he is 30 now and doing a solid job but the lookout for his replacement has begun. Marty is pretty much another Igor but has age on his side, at 22 he can be here for a while but looking long term he will only ever be a replacement striker. Chevalier is 20 and has huge potential and showed it with 5 goals and 4 assists in the league from the bench.
mr.SPANKY
16 clean sheets, great effort but still 3 short of the winner.
Sissoko 3 years in a row has been in the team of the year. Give him a fucking call up already.
My foreigners are the best in the league

mr.SPANKY
Problem is he is doing such a damn good job, he's won a world cup and a Euro championship I believe, if I could get the job I would. Want Boyer to play at least one game before he retires he deserves it.
mr.SPANKY
Sissoko and Boyer dominate this award.
Since I've been in charge they have each won it twice.
mr.SPANKY
Every year I get interest from Liverpool. It's getting very tempting to go back but I'm gonna tough it out with Montpellier. I have brought them this far.
mr.SPANKY
No thank you.
mr.SPANKY
They have offered me a 5 year contract, 57k per week. 30.5m transfer budget and 1.55m wage budget.
Declined. I am not leaving until I win the league with Montpellier.
Oh and Lyon are now owned by that Aussie billionaire and look like they will spend upwards of 100m this window, I'll keep you all updated on that.
mr.SPANKY
Taking a large chunk out of my budget but we need it.
I haven't spent a cent in transfers this season, got rid of some youth and some contracts have expired as well as getting rid of Reyes £50k per week wages to Celta for £2.9m. However with contract upgrades I was reluctant to spend money as I feel we are strong enough to compete and I'm sitting just on £800k per week wages.
Another reason I requested all of these though is my promise to the board to use youth players, I don't wanna use them if they are shit so I need the upgrades. This season I have bought up 3 or 4 players who will get the odd cup game and injury crisis game. They are far from ready though and the oldest is only 18.
mr.SPANKY
Fucking PSG, second player after Paco they have signed after having a stint with me. I wasn't chasing him hard because I don't have the funds for one and two Aka has that left wing spot locked down but still, would have liked to have him back.
mr.SPANKY
Shit pre season however I let my assistant take it as I was busy behind the scenes, setting scouts and other shit.
mr.SPANKY
I wasn't unheard of when they hired me bitch.
mr.SPANKY
Fucking hell, need to get Lorber to stop taking penalties. Reckon he has missed a good 20 or so since I took over.
mr.SPANKY
Last season Champions league winners, the team that knocked me out of the Europa league and some shitty Czech team. Could prove difficult to progress here.
mr.SPANKY
Shit
mr.SPANKY
Lyon spent £73m on transfers. Shows why they are second favorite now.
mr.SPANKY
Once again we have started the same way we do every season. I put this down to little tactical tweaks before I finally get it right and we go on a huge run of wins. A plus side is that after Lorber missed that first penalty he's gone on to slot home 3 penalties since.
So I just had no answers for Porto, they were lucky in the Europa league last season but just dominated us here. Good to build the confidence with a huge win over Sparta though.
mr.SPANKY
6 in 9 so far, deserves a call up. He's been called up two or three times in the past yet only ever made the bench and didn't get on the field.
mr.SPANKY
Managed to keep them quiet all game, much improved over the performance against Porto. If we can sneak a result at the Bernabeu we will jump Real into second.
mr.SPANKY
I love Igor, precisely why I chose to give him his last big contract. Shame we couldn't hold onto the lead but hoping Porto beat Real and we can take something from Porto.
mr.SPANKY
Wow. This really hurts. The board were unhappy with me not keeping my promise of bringing youth through the ranks, we had a game against last placed Monaco before the winter break so I took the opportunity to give the youth who haven't played a game. We lost 2-0. Exactly why I wasn't using them because they simply weren't good enough. We were in the European places in the league after a slow start but had won a few games on the trot and were hot on the trail of Real Madrid in the Champions league group stages to progress.
I am gutted. Took them to the champions league semis, qualified for Europe every season and it was only the money that Marseille and PSG had available to them that meant not winning a league title, we came so close the last couple of years too.
Holidaying until the 1st of January, gonna look at some options then decide whether to go for one or wait till the end of the season.
mr.SPANKY
Couldn't stay away for long. Had a quick look at the players available and there is some quality. Will post up key players soon.
Want to qualify for the World Cup but the board only want me to be competitive.
My group. The Czechs have struggled of late only just managing to scrape into the Euros through a playoff with Bulgaria and failing to qualify from their group in the last world cup. Lichtenstein have no real players and only won one game in the qualifying group for the Euros, shouldn't be a problem. Scotland failed to qualify for the Euros and previous to that lost to Denmark in a World Cup playoff. Kazakhstan have one real player and have only 2 friendly wins in 3 years. Italy will be the toughest opposition, however having lost to Croatia in the second round of the World cup and only winning 1 group game (2 draws) I feel we have a chance, also they have struggled against minor teams in the past having drawn to Luxembourg and Belarus recently.
I feel we are a chance of progressing to the world cup here.
mr.SPANKY
Highest profile player in our ranks, very quick, works well for the team, can dribble, finish and is well composed. Will have to suss out the other striker/wing ranks before I decide where best to employ him.
Great technique, quick, can pass, works for the team and is very creative. Will definitely play the Didier Boyer role from Montpellier.
Strong and determined, will be my rock in the midfield.
He can finish and is composed so do I play him up front? He can cross, dribble, is great at corners and can beat his man do I play him on the wing? Decisions, decisions.
Looks as though he will have the left wing spot locked down, has all the right stats.
