In the latest Football Manager 2024 update, licensed teams were removed due to expiring agreements.
With the game lasting at least another nine months, there’s a possibility that Sports Interactive (SI) will release further updates that could cause similar issues. Not least due the community putting more effort than ever into exploring and modding core game files.
To keep your game unchanged, here’s how to prevent FM24 from automatically updating:
Steam
To manage automatic updates for Football Manager 2024 on Steam :
- Open Steam
- Click on Library
- Search for “Football Manager 2024”
- Click the Gear ⚙️

- Head to Properties

- Under Updates Set:
- Automatic Updates > Wait until I lauch the Game
- Background Downloads > Never allow background downloads

Method 1
- Close Steam
- Launch Game via desktop icon (without opening Steam)

Method 2 (might not fit your needs if you need to be online)
- From the top menu head to Account > Go Offline

- Launch Game

Epic
To manage automatic updates for Football Manager 2024 on Epic Games Laucher :
- Open Epic
- Click on Library
- Click on the three dots … next to Football Manager 2024

- Head to Manage

- Turn Off Auto Update

- Launch Football Manager 2024

What is the version name of the new update, versus the previous version, I think that would be useful info to have.
For instance, on Epic, my current version is "2064704-win+denuvo-fix".
