Hi, I have a serious problem with the .fmf file. I had my fmf file that had a few thousand changes in it - mostly changing the colors of the outfits to update them. Yesterday I wanted to change the colors of one league, so I changed the colors of all the teams in that league and then I realized that I had only loaded the database in the editor, but not my file.

That's when I did the stupidest thing possible, which was to save the changes to my fmf file. As you might have guessed, I only saved the last changes to the file and threw everything else to hell.

Is there any chance to recover a previous version of this file (I don't have Windows restore points)? All I have for now is a career save that has all these changes, but I have no idea if it's possible to import them into the editor. Please help

So, there's one and only one fmf file and you've overwritten it. Where's a "previous version of this file"? Only you know if you ever have another copy of the file somewhere… (It'd be scary and dangerous if the system or game creates an earlier version without you knowing it… Also, it's meaningless if you're unaware that there's an rescue plan for emergency.)

In addition, it seems like you never back up your system and the fmf file.

So, I suppose you've an answer already...

Regardless, let's brainstorm any possible chances you've:

fmf file:

OK, there's no history possibly left, since you've destroyed it completely by overwriting the file.

Pre-game editor:

Alternatively, you may also check if the editor actually keeps any history, so you can undo to any previous states… or at least, a log which has recorded what you've done. Don't expect too much, as it's probably a log (if any) of, e.g. system crashes and update failure. (Sorry, I'm not familiar with the pre-game editor…)

Save game:

Elsewhere, all you've is the save game, which was built using this fmf file. Can you extract any information from it? I doubt it... don't think "Resource Archiver" can do (AFAIK, it's for fmf files, not for save game files... just try to think of anything possible). This is like you want to extract any seasoning you've added from a dish of pasta…

Sorry to say, I guess it may be better to stop mourning, accept the fact, and move on. The only thing this save game can do is for you to take notes about the changes you've made before. So, it can help you rebuild the fmf file again... this time, more efficient and quicker, even you've had “a few thousand changes in it”. (You may keep the files and wait for rescue, while start building the new fmf file at the same time. Just in case that I'm wrong and there'll be a solution or miracle later… I sincerely hope so.)

For some reason, we all like to learn a lesson the hard way... the harder it hits you, the deeper it bares in your mind. Just last week, there's a post about having lost a beloved save game… into 20th season or so.

Apart from building the fmf file again, it may be a good time to prepare a regular system backup and file backup. For the latter, you may use some programs to make a copy of some files every 12 hour or so, or simply manually copy the files/folder to another hard drive, cloud storage, or USB drive every now and then. It takes you 5 minutes (every few days, or a week), but could save you from disaster, give you peace of mind.

So, you've never done a backup for school assignment or work document? If no accident (e.g. corrupted file, hard disk failure) has ever visited you, you can consider yourself pretty lucky in life… Seriously!
