I could not find a head coach for my u19 team in the Spanish lower leagues who did not want a higher salary than mine. They wanted nearly double mine!

I finally delegated that hiring to my general manager, and he hired someone who makes about the same as I do. And then another coach who makes about the same as I do. So my u19 team is now blowing a hole in my overall team budget.

Should I have simply kept managing the u19 team myself?

Yeah, the wage demands for youth coaches can be wild sometimes! Delegating was probably the right move, though it  frees you up to focus on the first team. The budget hit might sting in the short term, but having proper staff usually pays off in player development.
