Unfortunately Greece is quite difficult due to there not being clear information about future changes that are coming up, which is why it hasn't been tackled

I'm sorry but I don't understand what you are refering to.
There was doubt about some teams being able to participate in the second league during the summer, but they managed to comply with the league's rules and now they are participating in it.
The list I've provided is final, so if someone can, please fix it 🙂
The format of the league is not confirmed for the 2026/2027 season, it is suspected to change to a one group format next year but it is not confirmed yet.

It is that unconfirmed format for 2026/27 which makes it tricky to create with full authenticity. I think it's well-publicised that the Super League 2 will return to a ‘single group' format but it's unclear about how the promotions in to that league will work.

I've got a work-in-progress file that I've started for Greece to update it to reflect 2025/26 - the plan is to absolutely do my best. As a minimum, I'll try and reflect the known structure for this year and next year and I'll estimate the structure around it.

As best I can work out, between Super League 1 and Super League 2 there will operate a ‘two up - two down’ system. So, two teams get relegated and two teams get promoted.

Between Super League 2 and the Gamma Ethniki is where things get a little more complicated but, if I have it correctly, a total of 8 teams will be relegated from Super League 2 - the bottom four from each of the North and South, which is decided following a second phase (contested by the bottom 6 of each group from the first phase).

Being promoted into the division are four teams. Two of those teams come from Gamma Ethniki Groups 1-3 and the other two come from Gamma Ethniki Groups 4-6. I think the process for these promotions is simple enough - of course, the important thing is that a total of four teams go up, as this results in the correct number in Super League 2.

Relegation from Gamma Ethniki appears to be a total of 18 teams. It's effectively the bottom three from each of the 6 groups, following a second phase. How those 18 teams get replaced from the regional divisions below, I'm not sure yet.

After all of that, you end up with the right numbers for 2026/27. I have no idea how the Gamma Ethniki promotion to the Super League 2 changes, however, for that second season. Of course, Super League 2 will be a 16-team single league for 2026/27. At the end of that season, is there any understanding of how many teams will be relegated from Super League 2? Will it remain as 16 teams for 2027/28?

If you have any sources that I could read up on, I'd appreciate it - it's OK if those sources are in Greek; I can translate them as necessary.

Hi M.C , I really appreciate your effort on making the game more authentic and understanding how the pyramid of football in Greece works.
I think I found an answer!

Hellenic Football Federation 's (ΕΠΟ) decision on what is going to happen is:

  • Relegate 8 teams from SL2 to Gamma Ethniki
  • Promote 4 teams from Gamma Ethniki to SL2
  • This year in SL2 there will be two phases : Normal period and Playoff/Playout period , 18 games each.
    - If you finish in places 1 to 4 in the normal period, you'll be on the playoff round, and if you are 5 to 10  you'll play at the playout.
    - Two teams will be promoted to SL1, the champions of each group.
If two teams have the same points, the team that finished higher in the Normal Period will be promoted.
    - Going into the playoff (and propably in the playout) round, team's points will have half the points they had in Normal Period.A
    - Teams from both the groups that finish 7 , 8 , 9 , 10 in the playout round will relegate to Gamma Ethniki.
    - B teams from SL1 can't play in SL1 so they can't promote. You can read more on them here: https://www.epo.gr/media/files/KATASTATIKO_KANONISMOI/2025-2026/Kanonismos_%CE%92_Omadwn_2025.pdf
  • All these teams will form a one group format that will have 16 teams that will be the format for Super League 2 for the 26/27 period.
    my source is here: https://monobala.gr/kleidosan-oi-16-omades-tis-super-league-2-sto-protathlima-tis-periodou-2026-27/
it is a credible website that reports football from Greece. there are multible sources that have reported on these decisions.
  • If you want to know more on what will happen in Gamma Ethniki and the amateur levels (ΕΠΣ of each region) in 26/27 you can read more from ΕΠΟ's decision here: https://www.epo.gr/media/files/PROKIRIXEIS/2025_2026/G_ETHNIKI/Prokirixi_G.pdf , in particular in Article 15.

Feel free to fact check / ask me anything because i just researched this issue I may have some thing wrong. 🙂
