Step Zero: The Head Coach and the First Job
Viktor Evangelakis, soon to be the greatest coach of all time, was born on New Year's Day, 1990, in Thessaloniki, Greece. Evangelakis has always been a huge fan of football, but his vision restricted him from being able to participate in sports as a child. Evangelakis later pivoted to a career in sociology. But after playing and coaching a little bit of Sunday-League football in his 20s, he decided to try to fulfill his lifelong dream of being a soccer coach. To his luck, these attempts have gone viral. According to his so-called résumé that he's sent to many clubs (such as his hometown team PAOK), he's “very good at working with people and adapting to new environments”. It's still yet to see if his recognition will go beyond Greek social media.

Step One: İskenderunspor
The Club
İskenderunspor A.Ş. 1967 were founded in, you guessed it, 1978 in İskenderun, Türkiye. They found no success until 2014, when they got promoted to the TFF 3. Lig (which is the fourth tier in Türkiye). Two years ago, they got promoted to the TFF 2. Lig, and last year, they nearly got promoted again, finishing in third. They play their home games at İskenderun 5 Temmuz Stadium, which seats 12,390. Notably, the TFF 2. Lig bans foreign players. The TFF 2. Lig is also split into two leagues, White and Red. İskenderunspor currently play in TFF 2. Lig Red.
The City
İskenderun was founded as Alexandria/Alexanderetta in 333 B.C.E. by Alexander the Great. (İskenderun = of Alexander). İskenderun was crucial to Alexander the Great due to its proximity to the Syrian Gates (a pass that goes from the Hatay region to Syria). After the fall of the Seleucid Empire, İskenderun became a Roman city, and later a Byzantine city before being captured by the Abbasid Caliphate in the 8th century. It was in a Crusader state and the Mamluk Sultanate before being taken for good by the Ottoman Empire in 1606. When the Ottoman Empire fell in 1918, it fell under French control. In 1938, İskenderun was a part of the Hatay State that became Turkish a year later.
İskenderun, on the coast of the Mediterranean, also was mentioned in Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade. İskenderun was also hit hard by the 2023 earthquakes.
The Task At Hand
TFF 2. Lig Red has 19 teams, 4 relegation spots (later to become 3, I would assume, to get rid of the odd number), and 1 automatic promotion spot. The other 2 promotions come from a playoff that 5 teams qualify for. İskenderunspor is projected to finish in 6th place.
The board expects us to work within the payroll budget, grow the club's reputation, be competitive in the domestic cup, and reach this playoff. My contract expires after this season.
