Many players have found their game locked at 60 FPS, regardless of settings. However, villarosie shared at the official SI forums, that he discovered a reliable workaround that allows the game to run smoothly at 120 Hz, 144 Hz, and even 165 Hz on a high-refresh 2K monitor. The results are excellent: smooth, stutter-free gameplay and stable performance.

The Method (AMD Graphics):

  1. Disable FreeSync (or G-Sync) in the graphics card settings.
  2. Disable Vertical Sync.
  3. Launch the game. Frame rates should exceed 1000+ FPS in menus.
  4. Exit the game.
  5. Enable only Vertical Sync in the graphics card settings.
  6. Launch the game again; it should now display 120 FPS.
  7. Once in the game, change the monitor refresh rate to 144 Hz or 165 Hz.

Following this sequence unlocks higher refresh rates and maintains smooth, consistent performance.

Important Notes

  • The game must be launched at 60 Hz or 120 Hz first. Launching it directly at 144 Hz or 165 Hz will cause it to lock at 60 FPS.
  • Changing in-game graphics settings may reset the frame rate, requiring the process to be repeated.
  • This solution currently works only on Windows. There is no confirmed fix for macOS yet.

Recommended Settings

For best results:

  • Set in-game graphics to Balanced or High depending on system performance.
  • Keep Vertical Sync enabled in the GPU control panel.
  • Adjust the monitor refresh rate only after the game has fully loaded.

This workaround effectively unlocks the game’s full potential on high-refresh monitors. With 165 FPS in matches, the gameplay becomes exceptionally smooth and responsive. Many players hope the developers will officially address this and allow proper refresh rate support in a future update.

Definitely not getting 120fps in the match highlights but am getting more than 60fps according to the steam fps overlay. But this may just be due to my hardware.

It's crazy that we need to apply a workaround for this. This should be covered in the out of the box version.

I made all the settings you mentioned in the game, it always shows 700-800 fps, I am using rx 7800 xt on fm 26.

I have a 2k 165hz monitor

I can't say that I am invested in the overall concept of the FM26 refresh rates, but I know enough about technology in general to be able to advise you that if you have a 60HZ display, you are only going to be able to see 60FPS through that display.

As such, there will be no method for you - through that display - to experience more than 60FPS. You could connect your laptop to an external display capable of higher refresh rates, but whether that is something that is an option you want to pursue is up to you.
