I've downloaded the update out them in the folder and when I try and load a new game, the game freezes, or takes ages, is this a bug or does it just take a long time to load up a database for the game

Do you mean for FM24? Load time is increased simply due to the volume of database changes the game has to action when loading. Everything will work fine provided you don't have any other conflicting editor files, but load time is increased, and often appears to have frozen, but if you leave it, it should work.
