Hi there,
I've just donated via PayPal and have successfully initiated the the cutout face mega pack download. But when I do to download the datga update it is asking me to donate again? I assumed this was a one time only thing? Or is this a site error?
Thanks.

There are two different paid products that can be purchased through the site. One is the Premium Membership (which is what you have already subscribed to) and the other is the Enhanced Data Update.
Just to clarify the content/distinction:
The Premium Membership gives access to faster downloads from our servers rather than having to use free mirrors.
The Enhanced Data Update is a version of the Data Update that includes everything the free version does, plus updated CA/PA values for many players, as well as providing an updated file every 20 minutes (i.e. near-real-time) which includes some dynamism between instances to keep things fresh in-game. By comparison, the free version releases once a day.
It is important to note that right now all versions of the Data Update are in a pause status owing to the very recent release of FM 26 - and once that pause is released (anticipated to be at the end of this week), versions of the Data Update will be offered for both FM 26 and FM 24.
Both products (Premium Membership and Enhanced Data Update) have a cost of £10 for a 12-month period and operate on an ‘annual subscription’ basis. It is not a site error as they are separate products. Both have ‘free’ alternatives - and it is entirely your choice whether you subscribed to one, both or neither.

Thank you for the quick response, I'm a little disappointed to have to pay £20 after not realising, but I understand why it's like that and I appreciate the work and the costs to run the website and keep the updates flowing, so I'm happy to support the site I've used for many years. Thanks for the heads up on the freeze too.

Unfortunately, because of things like this, FMSITE, to give an example, surpasses us. They're always first in everything related to the game; it's a community that shares its creations with fans and enthusiasts of the game, and they don't want to make a profit from it. And if we keep going like this, even FMSCOUT will overtake us.

I think everyone is entitled to their opinion - and it isn't for me to say whether one person is right, or wrong. However, objectively speaking - this site provides access to pretty much all of its content for free. That includes long-established, community-driven and accurately-moderated graphics megapacks, as well as (almost certainly) the most complete Data Update around, in terms of accuracy and breadth.
Again, to be clear, that is all available for free. The paid Premium Membership is about supporting the site's running costs as far as providing downloads go. Those various megapacks are many gigabytes in size and the scale of this site's community mean that if everyone was downloading those and all of the updates, the site owner would be bankrupted. Why is it somehow inappropriate to provide an option for a paid product to provide the convenience/enhanced speed for downloading for those unwilling to wait?
If other sites can afford to provide that sort of download capability for free, then fair play to them - but someone, somewhere, is underwriting that cost.
As an objective example on FMSite, I don't think they offer a Data Update at all. I do sometimes wonder if people realise quite how much organisation and effort goes into maintaining a Data Update that covers the whole world. The Site Owner, here, is continuously working to process data, update the website front end, churn out the database and ensure that everything is integrated from the community-driven front-end of the website through to the plug-and-play Data Update available for (again, free) download to the masses.
