🔴⚪ Rebirth and Redemption: Airdrieonians Rise Again

Welcome to the start of a new  adventure — and this one’s personal. I’m taking the reins at Airdrieonians FC, a club whose very existence is a story of heartbreak, resilience, and controversial rebirth. Nestled in the heart of North Lanarkshire, Airdrieonians are more than just a football club — they’re a symbol of a community’s refusal to fade away.

⚰️ The Fall: Administration and Collapse

The original Airdrieonians, founded in 1878, were once a proud name in Scottish football. They reached the Scottish Cup final in 1992 and even had a brief flirtation with European competition. But financial mismanagement and mounting debts led to their tragic demise in 2002. Despite valiant efforts to save the club, including fan-led campaigns and last-minute bids, the doors closed and the Diamonds were no more.

🔁 The Controversial Rebirth: Clydebank’s Sacrifice

But the story didn’t end there. In a move that still sparks debate among Scottish football fans, Airdrie United was formed by purchasing the league place of Clydebank FC. Clydebank, themselves struggling financially and without a permanent home, were effectively replaced — their identity dissolved to make way for Airdrie’s resurrection. It was a lifeline for one club, a death knell for another.

In 2013, the club reclaimed its original name: Airdrieonians FC. The badge was restored, the name revived, and the mission renewed — to climb back to the heights they once knew, and perhaps even beyond.

🌟 Legends of the Diamond: Airdrieonians’ Greatest Players

While the modern club is still carving out its legacy, the original Airdrieonians produced some truly iconic figures who left their mark on Scottish football:

Hughie Gallacher – A true legend of the game, Gallacher began his career at Airdrie before becoming a star at Newcastle United and captaining Scotland. His dazzling skill and prolific scoring made him one of the most feared forwards of the 1920s.

Jimmy Sandison – A commanding presence in defence and a natural leader, Sandison captained the Diamonds during their 1990s resurgence, including that memorable 1992 Scottish Cup final run.

Owen Coyle – A prolific striker and later a respected manager, Coyle’s goalscoring exploits in the 1990s made him a fan favourite. He returned to manage the club in 2007, further cementing his place in Airdrie folklore.

Sandy Stewart – Another stalwart of the 1990s, Stewart was a versatile and tireless performer who later managed the club and remains closely associated with its identity.

These names are etched into the club’s DNA — reminders of what Airdrieonians once were, and what they can be again.

🌱 Diamonds in the Rough: Youth Academy Successes

Despite the turbulence, Airdrieonians have quietly built a reputation for nurturing young talent. Several players have emerged from the club’s youth ranks to make their mark in the Scottish game and beyond:

Scott Stewart – Son of Sandy Stewart, Scott became a fan favourite at the Excelsior before moving on to Arbroath, where he’s become a key figure in the Championship.

Liam Coogans – A teenage sensation who earned a move to Huddersfield Town after impressing in League One, showing the potential of Airdrie’s youth setup to attract attention from south of the border.

Justin Devenny - Devenny may have came through the youth system at Kilmarnock but he made his name at Airdrie where he initially joined on loan before making the move permanent. with his performance he got a move to Crystal Palace where he scored the winning penalty against Liverpool in the Community Shield final.

Jordan Allan – A record-breaker who made his debut at just 14 years old, Allan’s journey has taken him across the SPFL, and he remains a symbol of the club’s commitment to giving youth a chance.

These players are reminders that even in the lower leagues, with the right environment and belief, talent can flourish.

Now, I’m stepping into this legacy. The club has flirted with promotion in recent years, but the Premiership remains elusive. My goal? To honour the past, embrace the present, and build a future worthy of the badge.

As I settle into the manager’s office at the Excelsior Stadium, it’s time to assess the tools at my disposal. Airdrieonians may not boast the deepest squad in the Championship, but there’s a blend of experience, youth, and untapped potential that could make this campaign one to remember.

🧤 Goalkeepers

Matty Connolly (22)  – My likely No.1. Agile, composed, and improving with every game. A product of Motherwell’s youth system, he’s got the reflexes and distribution to suit a possession-based style.
Cade Melrose (20)  – One for the future. Raw but promising, he’ll get minutes in cup games to aid development.
 

🛡️ Defence

Lewis Strapp (25)  – Dynamic left-back with a great engine. Offers width and tenacity — a key outlet in transition.
Sean McGinty (32)  – Towering centre-half and vocal leader. Brings physicality and aerial dominance.
Aidan Wilson (27)  – Calm and composed, ideal for playing out from the back. Could form a solid partnership with McGinty.

Samuel Cleall-Harding (19) – Towering centre-back on loan from Dundee United, standing at 1.94m. A Scotland U21 international with prior experience at Kelty Hearts, he’s dominant in the air and a future top-flight prospect.

Craig Ross (23) – Though naturally a centre-back, he’s versatile and could provide emergency cover across the back line.
Aaron Taylor-Sinclair (34)  – Versatile and experienced. Can slot in across the back line when needed.
Dylan MacDonald (21)  – Right-back with pace and grit. Still developing, but has the tools to become a starter.
Cammy Bruce (19)  – Youth prospect with good technical ability. Will be eased into senior football.

Scott Constable (17) – Versatile right-back and midfielder, also on loan from Dundee United. A former Scotland U17 international, he’s composed, mobile, and tactically flexible.

🎯 Midfield

Charlie Telfer (30)  – Creative spark with Championship pedigree. Can unlock defences with a killer pass.
Jamie Barjonas (27)  – Box-to-box dynamo. Covers ground, presses well, and chips in with goals.
Chris Mochrie (22)  – Technically gifted and tactically intelligent. A key cog in the attacking midfield role.
Cole McKinnon (24)  – Energetic and versatile. Offers depth and tactical flexibility.
Dean McMaster (22)  – Defensive-minded and disciplined. Useful in tighter, more physical contests.
Lewis McGrattan (25)  – Neat and tidy operator. Can play wide or centrally — a useful squad option.

Rhys Armstrong (23) – An attacking midfielder with pedigree from Rangers and Celtic youth setups. Known for his creativity and desire to get on the ball

Liam McStravick (20) – a nimble winger who can play on either flank and adds pace and flair.

Alex King (20) – Offers balance and a sweet left foot — ideal for wide midfield or inverted roles.

Gavin Gallagher (21) – Last season’s Young Player of the Year, Gallagher is a technically gifted attacking midfielder with a right foot and Rangers academy roots. He’s pushing for a regular starting role

Calvin Beattie (17) – Central midfielder on loan from Dundee United, youngest of the trio. Born in 2008, he’s composed beyond his years and expected to develop rapidly with first-team exposure.

⚡ Attack

Euan Henderson (25)  – Quick, direct, and clinical. Likely to lead the line in a 4-3-3 setup.
Jake Hastie (27)  – Explosive winger with a point to prove. Can stretch defences and deliver quality crosses.
Aaron Reid (21)  – Tall, powerful striker. A raw talent who could thrive with the right coaching.
Tate Xavier-Jones (19)  – Young English forward from Luton. One to watch — could be a breakout star.

 🧠 Tactical Notes

I’m leaning toward a 4-2-3-1 at the moment while in possession with out AM dropping back into midfield while out of possession, I will look to keep the high wingers so that if the change of a counter attack happens we have players up the park who can help get the ball into our lone striker.

   🗓️ July Recap: Pre-Season & League Cup Group Stage

We kicked off the season with a mix of friendlies and competitive fixtures, using July to build fitness, test tactical setups, and integrate new faces. The results were encouraging — especially in the League Cup, where we secured qualification to the next round.

    🆚 Derby County 2–0 Airdrieonians (Friendly)  

A tough opener at Pride Park. Connolly made key saves, Gallagher showed flashes, and Cleall-Harding looked solid. A useful benchmark.

    🆚 Wealdstone 2–3 Airdrieonians (Friendly)  

Barrington and Mooney found the net in a thrilling win. Constable impressed down the right, and McStravick’s movement was a constant threat.

    🆚 Brighton 2–0 Airdrieonians (Friendly)  

A respectable showing against Premier League opposition. Xavier-Jones and Beattie showed promise, and Armstrong tried to drive transitions.

    🆚 Airdrieonians 1–0 Hamilton (League Cup)  

Barjonas struck late to seal a gritty win. Gallagher was lively, Reid led the line well, and Constable gave us width.

    🆚 Caley Braves 0–1 Airdrieonians (League Cup)  

Constable scored early and remained a threat throughout. King controlled midfield, and Reid’s physicality helped us grind out the result.

    🆚 Airdrieonians 5–0 East Kilbride (League Cup)  

Total dominance. Constable, Gallagher and McStravick ran the show, and Cleall-Harding looked mature beyond his years.

    🆚 Motherwell 2–0 Airdrieonians (League Cup)  

Our unbeaten run ended against a well-drilled Motherwell side. Cleall-Harding battled hard, Armstrong tried to spark attacks, and Hastie looked dangerous on the break.

   🏆 League Cup Progress: Through in Second Place

Despite the final-day defeat, our performances were strong enough to secure  second place in the group , earning a spot in the knockout stages. With three wins from four and a +9 goal difference, we comfortably edged out the rest of the pack.

The squad showed resilience and attacking flair, with loanees like Beattie and Cleall-Harding adding depth. We now await the draw for the next round — and a chance to test ourselves against tougher opposition.

   🗓️ August Preview: Championship Kick-Off

With cup qualification secured, attention now turns to the  Scottish Championship , where we begin our league campaign with a mix of home comforts and tricky away days. Here’s how August lines up:

    🏠 Saturday 2nd August – vs Ross County (Home)  
A tough opener against a recently relegated side. Expect a physical battle, but we’ll look to impose our style at the Excelsior. Gallagher and Armstrong will be key to unlocking their defence.

    🛫 Friday 8th August – vs Dunfermline Athletic (Away)  
A Friday night clash at East End Park. Dunfermline are strong at home, and this will test our defensive organisation. Cleall-Harding and McGinty will need to be sharp.

🛫 Sunday 17th August – vs Hibernian (League Cup, Away)

The big one. A trip to Easter Road to face Hibs in the League Cup second round. They’ll be favourites, but we’ve earned our place here. Connolly will need to be at his best, and Armstrong’s ability to transition quickly could be key. A chance to make a statement — and maybe cause an upset.

    🏠 Saturday 23rd August – vs Queen’s Park (Home)  
Queen’s Park bring flair and youth, but we’ll aim to dominate possession and create chances through Barjonas and King. A good opportunity to pick up points

    🛫 Saturday 30th August – vs Arbroath (Away)  
A trip to Gayfield Park to close out the month. Arbroath’s direct style and coastal conditions make this a gritty fixture. Reid’s hold-up play and Constable’s tenacity could be decisive.

 August 2025 Update: Grit, Goals & a Comeback to Remember

🏠 Saturday 2nd August – vs Ross County (Championship)

A frustrating opener at the Excelsior. We matched Ross County for long spells but couldn’t find the breakthrough. A defensive lapse allowed them to snatch the win, and despite late pressure, we couldn’t convert.

🛫 Friday 8th August – vs Dunfermline Athletic (Championship)

Down 3–1 and staring at defeat, the squad showed real character. King's brace capped off a stunning comeback. A point earned the hard way — and a turning point in belief.

🛫 Sunday 17th August – vs Hibernian (League Cup Second Round)

Our cup run ended at Easter Road, but we didn’t go quietly. Henderson’s goal gave us hope, and we had spells of pressure that tested Hibs. Ultimately, their quality told, but we left with heads held high.

🏠 Saturday 23rd August – vs Queen’s Park (Championship)

McKinnon struck early with a clever finish, and we looked in control for much of the match. Queen’s Park equalised with a well-worked move, and despite late chances, we couldn’t find a winner.

🛫 Saturday 30th August – vs Arbroath (Championship)

We closed the month in style at Gayfield Park. Mochrie opened the scoring inside two minutes, Henderson added a composed finish before he sealed it late on from the spot. A complete performance and our first league win.

🔄 Transfer Update: September Loan Arrivals

With the squad needing fresh energy and attacking options, we secured three promising loan signings but it did mean we had to cancel the current loans of Tate Xavier-Jones and Calvin Beattie to allow us to bolster the squad.

Brandon Forbes 

A versatile midfielder known for his work rate and ball retention. Forbes can play as a deep-lying playmaker or box-to-box engine, giving us flexibility in midfield rotations

Callum Osmand

A powerful striker, Osmand brings raw talent and goal threat. He’s already impressed at youth level and is expected to challenge for starts alongside Henderson.

These additions bolster our depth and give us tactical options as we head into a crucial stretch of fixtures.

After a turbulent August, September brought a more structured and resilient Airdrie side. The squad kept two clean sheets and earned five points from four Championship fixtures. While the loss to Partick Thistle stung, the overall performances showed tactical improvement and growing chemistry among the squad.

A cagey affair at the Excelsior. St. Johnstone arrived top of the table, but we matched them stride for stride. Cleall-Harding and McGinty were immense at the back, and Connolly made a crucial late save. A hard-earned point and a confidence boost.

A tough night at Firhill. Partick took control early and doubled their lead before the break. We rallied late, and Alex King struck in the 90th minute with a curling effort from the edge of the box. A spirited finish, but not enough to salvage a point.

A dominant display at home. McKinnon opened the scoring with a well-placed finish, Osmand doubled the lead with a powerful strike, and McMaster capped it off with a late goal after a sweeping move. Gallagher and Forbes controlled midfield, and the defence never looked troubled. Our most complete performance yet.

After a mixed September, October brought a welcome dose of consistency. The Diamonds went four games without defeat, picking up six points and keeping pace with the mid-table pack. New signings continued to settle, and the team showed greater balance across all areas of the pitch.

A solid start to the month. Brophy struck towards the end of the first half with a sharp finish. We equalised early in the second half but neither team could find  a winner, but the performance was encouraging — especially in midfield, where Forbes and Gallagher dictated play.

🛫 Saturday 18th October – vs Queen’s Park (Championship)

A hard-fought point at Hampden. Savoury opened the scoring with a powerful header, and we defended well to stop going 2 down before Henderson found a equaliser. Ferdinand was lively on the wing, and Connolly made a crucial save to preserve the draw.

🏠 Tuesday 21st October – vs Dunfermline Athletic (Championship)

A dramatic midweek clash. McKinnon curled in a beauty from the edge of the box, and McStravick added a second with a composed finish. Dunfermline hit back twice, and despite late pressure, we couldn’t find a winner. A thrilling contest and another point on the board.

A confident home win to close the month. Osmand opened the scoring with a low drive, and Mochrie sealed it with a curling effort from distance. The defence was rock solid, and Connolly earned his seventh clean sheet of the season. A deserved three points.

🔴⚪ November 2025 Update: Explosive Start, Faltering Finish

After an unbeaten October, Airdrie burst into November with two emphatic victories, scoring seven goals in two games. The attacking quartet of Mochrie, Henderson, McKinnon, and Osmand clicked beautifully. However, defensive lapses and missed chances saw the team lose three straight to close the month. The Scottish Cup win keeps spirits alive heading into December.

A stunning away performance against the league’s second-placed side. Four goals in 14 minutes blew St. Johnstone away. Mochrie was unplayable, McKinnon’s drive split the defence, and Henderson’s finish capped a ruthless spell. A clean sheet and a statement win.

🏠 Friday 7th November – vs Partick Thistle (Championship)

Another dominant display. Mochrie struck inside the opening minute, and Henderson doubled the lead just after halftime. The midfield trio of Forbes, King, and Gallagher controlled the tempo, and Connolly made key saves to preserve the clean sheet.

🛫 Saturday 15th November – vs Raith Rovers (Championship)

Momentum stalled at Stark’s Park. Raith pressed aggressively and took their chances, while we struggled to break them down. Ferdinand had a quiet game, and Osmand was isolated up front. A disappointing result after two strong wins.

🏠 Friday 21st November – vs Ayr United (Championship)

Ayr snatched a win with a late goal in a tense match. We created chances—McGrattan hit the post and Henderson forced a save—but couldn’t convert. Defensive shape was solid, but one lapse proved costly.

🏠 Saturday 29th November – vs Hamilton (Scottish Cup Third Round)

Cup magic at the Albert Bartlett Stadium. Telfer opened the scoring with a low drive and added a second with a curling effort. Osmand powered in a header to make it three before halftime. A dominant first-half display and a comfortable progression to the fourth round.

Thanks to the strong start, we sneak into the top half of the table. The back-to-back losses to Raith and Ayr stalled progress, but the team is now just a point off the playoff spots. The Cup win offers a chance to build momentum heading into the festive period.

Airdrieonians entered December with renewed energy, picking up back-to-back wins in the Championship and advancing in the Challenge Cup. Despite losses to Ross County and Arbroath, the team’s attacking structure looked sharper, and squad rotation delivered results. Brian Forbes and Euan Henderson led the scoring charts, while McGrattan and Constable added creative spark.

A tough start away in Dingwall. Ross County dominated early, racing to a 3–0 lead. Henderson’s late goal was a consolation, but the team struggled to contain their movement and aerial threat. Defensive lapses proved costly.

A composed cup performance. Forbes opened the scoring with a low drive, and McGrattan doubled the lead with a curling effort from the edge of the box. The midfield trio of King, Gallagher, and Constable controlled the tempo, and Connolly kept a clean sheet.

A gritty away win. Brian Forbes struck midway through the second half after a well-worked move involving Osmand and McKinnon. The defence held firm, and Connolly made two key saves late on. A vital three points and a clean sheet.

🏠 Saturday 20th December – vs Queen’s Park (Championship)

A dominant home display. Forbes continued his fine form with a composed finish, Constable added a second with a driven shot, and Osmand sealed it in stoppage time. The team looked fluid and confident, with Ferdinand and McGrattan stretching the play.

🛫 Saturday 27th December – vs Arbroath (Championship)

A frustrating end to the month. Arbroath went 2–0 up before Henderson pulled one back with a clever finish. Despite late pressure, we couldn’t find the equaliser. A missed opportunity against the league’s bottom side.

🔴⚪ January 2026 Update: Cup Progress, League Grit & Defensive Change

Airdrieonians kicked off the new year with a thrilling win over Raith Rovers and a Scottish Cup triumph against Premiership opposition. However, inconsistency in the league and a Challenge Cup exit tempered the momentum. Off the pitch, the sale of veteran centre-back Sean McGinty to Raith Rovers for £0 and the free signing of Liam Cooper signalled a defensive refresh.

A blistering second-half spell saw Airdrie score three goals in eight minutes. McKinnon’s opener was followed by McGrattan’s low drive and McStravick’s composed finish. The midfield dominated, and the defence held firm despite a late Raith push.

🛫 Friday 9th January – vs Ayr United (Championship)

A frustrating night at Somerset Park. Despite dominating possession, we couldn’t convert chances. Osmand hit the bar, and McGrattan forced a late save, but Ayr snatched the win with a set-piece header. A setback in the playoff chase.

A cup upset at the Excelsior. Brandon Forbes curled in a beauty from the edge of the box, and the defence held firm. Connolly made two crucial saves, and the team showed maturity under pressure.

A strong first-half performance sealed the points. McMaster opened the scoring with a driven shot, and Osmand added a second with a powerful header. Ross County pulled one back late, but Cooper and Cleall-Harding marshalled the backline well.

A flat end to the month. Dunfermline pressed high and forced errors, scoring twice before halftime. We struggled to create clear chances, and fatigue showed. A reminder of the need for squad rotation and sharper transitions.

🔴⚪ February 2026 Update: Cup Confidence & Mixed League Form

Airdrieonians opened the month with a dominant Scottish Cup performance and closed it with a hard-earned draw against Greenock Morton. In between, the Diamonds suffered a narrow defeat to St. Johnstone and held high-flying Partick Thistle to a stalemate. The squad continues to evolve, with youth and experience combining well in key moments.

March was a landmark month for Airdrieonians, featuring a Challenge Cup triumph, a Scottish Cup quarter-final run, strong league form — and the arrival of a promising youth intake that could shape the club’s future. With silverware secured and talent emerging, the club continues to build on and off the pitch.

🛫 Wednesday 3rd March – vs St. Mirren (Championship)

Airdrie soaked up pressure before striking late. McKinnon broke the deadlock with a driven finish, and Laidlaw sealed the win with a composed effort on the counter.

🛫 Monday 8th March – vs Kilmarnock (Scottish Cup Quarter-Final)

Airdrie’s cup run ended at Rugby Park. Marcus Dackers scored the only goal in the 79th minute, and despite a late push, the Diamonds couldn’t find an equaliser.

🏠 Saturday 13th March – vs Arbroath (Championship)

After Todorov gave Arbroath an early lead, Airdrie responded with four unanswered goals. Grant and Myles turned the game around quickly, Lawrence added flair, and Borland capped off a dominant display with his first goal for the club.

McMaster’s brace gave Airdrie control, but Hamilton equalised through Andy Winter’s double. In stoppage time, Grant popped up with a dramatic winner to snatch all three points.

April saw Airdrieonians close out the regular Championship season in style, with three wins and a draw. The squad maintained momentum in the playoff race while showcasing its future — most notably with 16-year-old Willie Burke’s explosive debut and a final-day lineup featuring youth and backup players.

Lawrence opened the scoring with a curling effort, and Myles added two more — one early in the second half and another in stoppage time — to seal a dominant home win.

🛫 Saturday 10th April – vs Queen’s Park (Championship)

Willie Burke made his senior debut and stole the show. After McStravick’s opener, Queen’s Park equalised through Montagu, but Burke responded with two composed finishes and Milne added a header to complete a stunning second-half turnaround.

🏠 Saturday 24th April – vs Ayr United (Championship)

Lawrence gave us the lead with a low strike, and Burke continued his breakout month with another brace. Ayr pulled one back through Marco Rus, but the Diamonds were never in danger.

With the top spot already secured, we gave opportunities to backup and youth players in the final game of the season. Lawrence and Burke struck early, but Dunfermline fought back through Rudden and Barnes. A valuable point and a glimpse of the club’s depth.

The 20-year-old Northern Irish playmaker adds flair and vision in the final third. With 15s in first touch and decisions, and 14s in vision and composure, Morrison is built to unlock defences and rotate across attacking midfield roles.

Armer departs without making a senior appearance, joining St. Mirren in a deal worth £225K. While his time at Airdrieonians was limited, the move represents good business and frees up space for emerging talent.

🔍 Squad Outlook

We enter the season with a well-balanced squad. The attacking unit is particularly strong, led by Lewis Koumas, Karlan Grant, and Willie Burke, whose 5★ potential and breakout performances last season mark him as a future star. Emilio Lawrence and Ethan Laidlaw offer consistent output and versatility, while Chris Mochrie and Cole McKinnon provide depth and tactical flexibility.

Midfield is stacked with options. Jensen Weir and Aidan Borland bring defensive steel and transitional control, while Kieran Morrison adds vision and technical flair. The back line is anchored by Luke Chambers, Anthony Ralston, Kerr Smith, and Leon King, with Jack Milne and Mitchel Frame offering cover and width. In goal, Alex Paulsen is a clear upgrade, bringing international experience and composure.

However, to truly compete in the Scottish Premiership, the squad still lacks two key ingredients: top-tier depth in central defence and a proven midfield enforcer. While the current centre-back options are solid, an injury or suspension could expose a lack of experience at the highest level. Similarly, the midfield has technical quality but could benefit from a physically dominant ball-winner — someone who can break up play and impose themselves against stronger Premiership sides.

We began the season with a busy schedule of friendlies and League Cup group matches. The month opened with a narrow 3–2 friendly defeat to Falkirk, but the Diamonds responded superbly in the League Cup, winning all four of their group fixtures. Willie Burke was the star of the early rounds, scoring twice in the 3–2 win over Alloa Athletic and again in the 2–1 victory at Clyde. He continued his hot streak with a goal in the 3–0 home win against Queen of the South, while Liam McStravick sealed a composed 2–0 away win at St. Mirren. The group stage ended with a perfect record of four wins from four, securing progression in style. The month closed with a tough 2–0 friendly defeat to Rangers, which provided valuable experience against Premiership opposition.

Airdrieonians kicked off their first full month in the Scottish Premiership with a series of confident performances, winning four of five matches across league and cup competitions. The squad showed resilience, attacking variety, and defensive steel — none more so than in the standout win over Celtic, where Alex Paulsen delivered a man-of-the-match performance to keep a clean sheet against the reigning champions.

Airdrie opened their Premiership campaign in style. Lawrence curled in the opener, Grant doubled the lead with a composed finish, and Laidlaw added a third before Gruda’s late consolation for the visitors.

🛫 Sunday 8th August – vs Aberdeen (Premiership)

A tough afternoon at Pittodrie saw Airdrie undone by two first-half goals from Hedges and Keskinen. The Diamonds struggled to break down Aberdeen’s press and couldn’t find a way back.

🏠 Sunday 15th August – vs Aberdeen (League Cup Second Round)

Airdrie bounced back in the cup with a gritty win over the same opponents. After falling behind early to O’Neill’s strike, Lawrence equalised with a driven effort and Grant sealed the comeback with a clinical finish.

🏠 Sunday 22nd August – vs Celtic (Premiership)

In one of the club’s most impressive results to date, Airdrie stunned Celtic at the Excelsior. Laidlaw’s second-half strike proved decisive, but it was goalkeeper Alex Paulsen who stole the show — making a string of crucial saves and commanding his box with authority to earn man-of-the-match honours.

🛫 Saturday 28th August – vs Dundee (Premiership)

Airdrie raced into a two-goal lead through Lawrence and Laidlaw, but Dundee fought back with goals from Wesley and a late penalty by Jones. Lawrence had the final say, curling in a stoppage-time winner to seal all three points.

Ramsay arrives with experience at both club and international level, having earned a senior cap for Scotland.
