UPDATE DECEMBER 8th
A new update called 2026.01 was just published which will confuse some people.
To keep it really, really simple just take one of these two steps.
- If you have already downloaded "2026.00 complete" in December: Download the 2026.01 changes file
- If you haven't, then delete all previous faces and download “2026.01 complete”
If you're getting confused or your files are in a mess, just follow (2).
if you still find things difficult you're overcomplicating it, just follow (2) exactly and don't try and add extra steps.

Due to a bug in FM26 that means that two graphics cannot have the same name we have had to make the unfortunate decision to rename all our files to have a prefix of “face_”.
This change will break attempts to update the megapack.
To try and avoid confusion i've deleted the previously released 2026.00, 2026.01 and 2026.02 updates and rereleased a single “2026.00” pack with the updated file names that contains everything that used to be in 2026.00, 2026.01 and 2026.02.
The easiest fix is for everyone to redownload the 2026.00 complete pack, this will ensure your recent downloads are tracked so you know which updates you have and haven't downloaded.
Steps to take
- Delete any of our cut out faces you have already installed
- Go to the main Cut Out Faces page and download the Complete Pack
Do not make these common mistakes
- DO NOT just download the most recent changes file and try to install it, it won't work by itself.
- DO NOT just download the updated config.xml by itself, it will not work without renaming all 500,000+ PNG files.
- DO NOT download the complete file and then also download the changes file with the same number. The complete file contains everything you need.
FAQ
Why not wait for SI to fix the bug?
The game has been out for over a month and this hasn't been fixed yet. I also believe this bug was reported to SI by researchers who had access to the game weeks before it was first released on Steam, so its actually been longer than a month and still no fix or comment from SI (they never comment on graphics related content).
I'm still playing FM24 so this doesn't affect me
Right now we only release one pack which should work with both so unfortunately you also have to deal with this.
How do I use the FM Mod Loader to rename files?
After downloading there's a big “Prefix folder contents” button which will then guide you through the process.
My last download was 2026.00 or 2026.01 but not 2026.02
Just download the new 2026.00 complete pack
My last download was a 2025,XX version
Your options are (1) download the new 2026.00 complete pack or (2) download each individual changes file and then use the FM Mod Loader to rename the files.
Can I use the FM Mod Loader
Alternatively if you don't wish to redownload you can use the FM Mod Loader which has a function to bulk rename files and update the config.xml.
If something goes wrong with this please just (1) delete your existing faces and (2) redownload the Complete Pack rather than keep asking for support with what went wrong in your attempts to rename.
Can't I rename them myself without the mod loader?
You can try these scripts if you feel confident with computers.
Mac/Linux:

Still not even played the game yet. Wont play it with no faces at all. This was supposed to tempt me back into buying FM26. Is there a setting off I'm missing? I'm sure there were teams that had some player faces in them even without the added content. If memory serves the Rangers save I did when first got the game had some players pictured. Even they are gone now.
Recovering from surgery and just want to play some FM.. Been waiting on a response since Monday. Making me wonder what is the point of being a Premium member. So frustrating when got nothing to do…
Think everything is where it supposed to be. I put that new .xml file into the faces folder and replaced the one already in there.

Sorry you've not had a reply before this one.
Can you confirm the filename format of the individual images within your megapack? Are they simply sequences of numbers (e.g. 123.png) or are they prefixed with ‘face_’ (e.g. face_123.png)?
Secondly, can you confirm that the config.xml does, or does not, reference the the files by the equivalent name?
I do know - from looking at your account - that your download of the megapack happened around the time where there were some errant versions that had, unfortunately, been published. So I'm keen to get you up and running - and there will be a simple enough method - but just want to establish what you have in place at the moment.
If all player faces have disappeared, this indicates to me that the config.xml the game is reading is referring to images that aren't in the folder alongside it. Is it possible you have ended up with the config.xml file in a folder by itself? I'm speculating, but I wonder if you have ended up with an isolated config.xml file in the ‘cut out configs’ folder you have?

Hi, thanks.
I have added a screenshot of what is in my faces folder. It starts off like that,, just numbers, but then as you scroll down they are prefixed with face_number. I extreacted the .XML file to the same folder and thats what is in the folder at top. Although I have that same folder along with a MACOSX folder in the previous location along with a logos folder. My logos seem to be still showing up. Tbh,, its all getting rather confusing reading between different post on here and different suggestions. Would be happy to delete all and start again from scratch if can tell me what to do. Even if that means re-downloading the entire mega pack and waiting the 2 or 3 hours to extract it all again.

OK, so I'm not going to recommend you to start re-downloading all the content and starting fully from scratch. Mainly because I am hopeful we can avoid that ‘last resort’.
Things we need to ensure/check/confirm are:
1. That every folder within /graphics/ that contains a config.xml file has the corresponding images, referenced by that config.xml, in that same folder. My advice to you would be to check each folder (I think you have a small number, going by the screenshot you shared initially) and to ensure none of those contain only a config.xml file.
To be clear: if you've ended up, by mistake, with a config.xml file in a folder without any images alongside it, if this file is being processed by the game it would result in no images showing. Because essentially what is happening is that this file is referencing images that - contextually - don't exist in the folder with it. So the game is being directed to image files that do not exist there - hence it shows a blank space instead.
I believe your entire facepack is within the /graphics/sortitoutsi/faces/ folder. If that is the case, I would recommend you remove the ‘__MACOSX’ folder and the ‘cut out configs’ folders that are directly within /graphics/. They serve you no purpose.
2. Can you confirm that directly within the /graphics/sortitoutsi/faces/ folder (where you have the face images) you also have a config.xml file? Not nested in any sub-folders - within the same folder that the images are.
3. Within your /graphics/sortitoutsi/faces/ I can see that you have an instance of the ‘cut out configs’ folder and it contains some files. What files are in there? Assuming you have a config.xml in the main /faces/ folder, I would recommend you remove that nested ‘cut out configs’ folder. Again, it will be serving no positive purpose.
4. Can you please attach the config.xml file that is currently in your /graphics/sortitoutsi/faces/ folder? This is the key file and I want to ensure that the version of the file you have in there corresponds to the facepack images you have. Fundamentally, all that is required to have a functional facepack is a single folder, within /graphics/, that contains the image files and the corresponding config.xml file for those graphics. My intention here is to simplify down to the correct, minimal folder presence so we can ascertain where the issue is.

Thanks. I had a look in the other folders and noticed the .xml files in the Logo folder all when opened up showed something corresponding to the folder they belonged to. But when I attempted the same in the MACOSX and cut out configs folders the .xml file there when double clicked on went nowhere. So thinking about what you said that it might be going there first and thus ending with no pics - I deleted both those folders. RESULT.. I now have faces again. No idea if I have all I am meant to as havent even started a save yet… but happy with what I have now. Thanks again..

Make sure you download the complete file pack first and unzip the contents with the config file in the same folder as the faces into the graphics folder. When downloading the updates just copy all the files into the original folder replacing any files that need be, and it should work without issue.

Always keep the config file in the folder with the pictures, there is no need to make separate folders for it. The face pack download is already plug in and play, just unzip it and add it to the graphics folder and its done.

It is better to have a separate folder. They are done alpha numeric order so just make sure your custom faces are after the sortitoutsi ones e.g.

Hi guys, can I understand the new "Megapack Cut Out Player Faces" update from December 8th not working? No, because I have the count like this, that is, I downloaded both of them on October 26th (the huge one) and then on November 9th and November 30th the other parts, so do I have to redo everything from scratch for the smileys? It is very clear from your screenshot that that the files you downloaded are from October and November and we did a breaking change on December 1st. You need to update your files because of that breaking change.
EITHER
(1) Delete all your faces and download the 2026.01 pack.
OR
(2) Rename all your faces yourself and then download the 2026.01 changes pack.
I would suggest that (1) is easier, but it's up to you.
Do not do both.

You only needed to download 2026.01 complete but if you downloaded 2026.00 complete then yes you will need 2026.01 changes as well on top of it.

It might have already been discussed so please forgive me, but how do you add individual faces or extra facepacks from here to the game now. I've got the new megapack with the faces_ etc but have tried additional and changed to same style and does not work. Would appreciate your support.

Well... I don't know what else to do. My cut-outs weren't working. I followed the steps here and downloaded the full 2026.01 version again. They still don't work. In the game, do you need to clear the cache like in FM24?

Hey, after the installation of the fakelnc (Meistertrainerforum), the cutoutfaces doesn't work. I also try it with your real name fix file V2.0. Same result. Complete Pack 2026.00 (02.Dec) and Update 2026.01 (08.Dec) runs perfectly after the latest SI Update. Any idea?

You can't clear the cache in FM26. Facepacks and logos automatically load. Make sure you follow the steps correctly by unzipping the faces folder into Documents, Sports Interactive, Football Manager 26, Graphics. If you don't have a graphics folder create one. You only need the faces folder, the iconface folder isn't needed. Make sure the config file is in the faces folder and it should work.

Are you using multiple face packs or just this one? And are you using the 2026.01 version of the face pack? There should be 527,004 files in the folder.
