Question about simming

I have a question for anyone who does a serious amount of simming. Do you do any significant setup to maximise the accuracy of the sim, or do you just start the save, click 'use current match tactics' and then click ‘go on holiday’.

 

I'd like to do more long term simming to test tactics etc but I don't know how to make sure the results are reliable.
