I have been tinkering with AI to create FM graphics, and I figured I ought to share my experiences and show you the workflow I've settled on.

In this case, I have created a new alternative reality team: IF Linnéa. There was an actual team with that name founded in 1908 a few blocks away from where I live in Stockholm, but they do not play football any more. To create a new logo for them, I give ChatGPT the following prompt:

Generate the crest of IF Linnéa, an association football team from Aspudden, Stockholm. Their home colours are forest green, grass green and pale pink. The crest is a Linnaea flower. It should look as if created in 1908 in full colour by someone with great skill. The background behind the crest should be transparent. Do not add any text.

And presto:

In the same conversation, I write:

Create an embroidered version of the crest, the way it would look if embroidered onto a football shirt, with the background still transparent.

And ChatGPT gives me:

Then, time to create the kits. I give the prompt:

IF Linnea's 2025 home shirts feature broad alternating forest-green and grass-green vertical stripes, pale pink and grass green cuffs and collar, and the crest above over the heart. The kit manufacturer is Adidas. Create a picture of the whole shirt, as if worn, though no mannequin should be visible. The canvas should be square, the background transparent.

I wanted this one to be sponsorless, but you may ask for sponsors and it will deliver. Big-ish corporations will have their logos rendered faithfully, if you want a smaller sponsor you may need to upload their logo in the chat.

I do the same for the away kits:

IF Linnea's 2025 away shirts are cream, with a sash running from right shoulder to left hip: pale pink bordered by grass green. The crest above is over the heart. The kit manufacturer is Adidas. Create a picture of the whole shirt, as if worn, though no mannequin should be visible. The canvas should be square, the background transparent.

As long as the canvas actually is square, these can be installed into the game without any modifications whatsoever, and they look great in-game. For the logos, I usually crop the empty space around them before using them. The embroidered logos are for the FM Kit Creator (https://fmkitcreator.com).

I actually prefer logos without text, but ChatGPT can usually manage text and numbers too, with occasional typos.

Has anyone else tried this?

Here's how it turned out in-game.

Would it be also able to generate 3D kit texture you think if we would feed it all the kits we have so far?

Haven't tried, but I doubt it. There are so many football shirts, embroidered logos and various crests in ChatGPT's training data, but no 3d textures of the kind we need.

Also, a 3d texture needs to align perfectly, but these AI images always vary slightly. The kits look the same next to each other, but if you overlay them you see that they are not identical at all. I created my 3d kits manually with FM Kit Creator.

Not sure if we have AI people here, would be cool to train our own model.

No clue how to do that though, plus it probably costs a ton of money
