UPDATE: There are now a couple of Mac Versions available to download, but they are untested and unsigned. I pushed the whole thing to github and created the .dmg files there. If there are any Issues, or if you would like to help test and develop the app, feel free to join my Patreon (there is a free tier), and stay in touch there.

Because the app is unsigned, Mac users will probably need to:

Right-click the app → Open → Open

or, after opening the .dmg, drag the app into Applications, then right-click it there and choose Open.

UPDATE 2: I have also uploaded Beta v0.2 for windows. Please uninstall the previous version before installing this one.

FM Assistant is a desktop companion app built for Football Manager players who want faster, save-specific squad and tactics analysis while playing.

It works as an always-on-top overlay and can shrink into a small floating bubble, so you can keep it available without covering your Football Manager screen.

Current builds are available through my Patreon.
Please check Patreon for the latest download, installation notes, changelogs, and beta updates.

What does FM Assistant do?

FM Assistant can scan screens from your Football Manager save and turn them into useful AI memory.

You can scan:

  • player profiles
  • tactic overview screens
  • in-possession instructions
  • out-of-possession instructions
  •

The app then remembers that information inside your selected save profile, so you can ask questions based on your own squad and tactic instead of getting generic Football Manager advice.

Main features

Player scanning

Open a player profile in FM, click scan, and FM Assistant extracts useful player information for later questions.

You can use this to build a memory of your squad, transfer targets, youth players, or key opponents.

Tactics scanning

FM Assistant includes a three-step tactics scanner:

  1. tactic overview
  2. in-possession instructions
  3. out-of-possession instructions

This helps the AI understand your tactical setup more accurately, especially in FM26.

Save-specific memory

Create separate profiles for different saves.

For example:

  • Journeyman Save
  • Red Star Penzing
  • Youth Academy Challenge
  • Network Save
  •

Each profile keeps its own scanned players, tactics, logs, and chat history.

Ask questions about your save

After scanning players and tactics, you can ask things like:

  • Which of my players fits this role best?
  • What is the biggest weakness in my tactic?
  • How should I adjust my out-of-possession setup?
  • Which player should I replace first?
  • Can you suggest a tactic using my scanned squad?
  •

FM24 and FM26 support

FM Assistant includes an FM version switch.

FM26 mode is designed around the newer tactical structure with separate in-possession and out-of-possession logic, including a curated FM26 role list to reduce outdated role advice.

Floating bubble mode

Minimize the app into a small always-on-top bubble while playing.

The bubble can stay on top of Football Manager and lets you quickly trigger scans or reopen the full app when needed.

Multiple AI providers

FM Assistant supports different AI services, including:

  • Groq
  • Gemini
  • OpenAI

The app can be configured so one provider is used for scans and another for asking questions. For free-tier users, a useful setup can be:

Scan provider: Groq
Ask provider: Gemini

This can help spread usage across free tiers and reduce how quickly one provider hits its limits.

Current status

FM Assistant is currently in v0.1 Beta.

This means the app is usable, but still actively changing. Expect bugs, UI changes, and frequent updates while the scanning workflow and FM26 tactical accuracy are improved.

Current development focus:

  • more reliable player scans
  • better tactic scan interpretation
  • improved FM26 terminology
  • cleaner UI and sidebar mode
  • lower API usage for free-tier users
  • better save-profile management
  •

Important notes

FM Assistant is a fan-made companion tool.

It does not modify Football Manager save files. It reads information from your screen and uses AI to help interpret what is visible.

To use AI features, you will need either your own API keys or a supported provider setup. Free API tiers may have limits, so check the app log if scans or questions fail.

it should work with fm24 as well yes, but it does not have its own AI logic, like the fm26 mode does. Also, the scanning interface is built for FM26, particularly the tactics section. The AI might also mix up tactical terminology and player roles with those from earlier FM versions. If you notice that happening, feel free to let me know here.

you can switch between fm26 and fm24 in the “settings” tab.

But remember, its a beta version, and barely got tested so far.

If there turns out to still be high demand for the fm24 version, i might think about creating a dedicated interface and ai logic for fm24 as well.

I just realized that the fm24 mode might have broken, when i implemented the 3-step tactic scan. you might be able to just use step one, and ask the ai to work with that. player scans should work.

I will work on a fix for future versions.
