I also don't know exactly how to install this file. It's a “.fm” file and not an “fmf”... has there perhaps been a mistake?

what about the compatible mods? For example, the Realism mod by Daveincid or the LEAGUES – MasterIgor's Megapack, or the database updated here
- do I need the +3 age and contract years file
- what does it mean "Updated but not playable"? Can I activate it as a playable country when I select it, but I am not allowed to start playing there or do these lands have to be selected as only viewable?
I would be happy about help in this regard to avoid mistakes.

The main purpose of using the sortitoutsi data update is ideally to use it as standalone, as there are a LOT of files, covering many areas of the game - and the same would go for other large data downloads, such as the ‘Daveincid’ pack etc. If you start mixing packs then you will definitely encounter issues along the way, and it can then be near impossible for the moderators to assist with these issues.
If you start mixing packs from different sources, you really need to understand what each file does, and it’s up to you to manage and sort whatever files you download and want to apply to the game - especially when packs are intended for realism and current/future season dates etc.
So rule of thumb, just use one pack as it is, unless you know/understand what each file does from various packs - the packs provided would have been tested/created with the intention of using as standalone, especially when it comes to league/people data changes.
The +3 years / contract file, which I can see has been explained many times already, is used to imply you are playing FM24 (game start year 2023) as if you were playing a hypothetical game of FM27 (game start year 2026) - with people ages reflecting as they are today…right now, and/or when the new seasons starts for 26/27 etc….but the file is NOT a requirement.
A good example of using it for realism is younger players. World class players of today (who are part of the default FM24 db) will be around 18/19 years old, but would still be 15/16 in FM24, and might not be considered a first team player in the game due to age and contract being set to youth etc (despite their rating) - so might be stuck playing youth/reserve football for a season or 2. A couple of good examples are “Lamine Yamal” and “Estêvão”, whereas having the original age +2 offset or the new +3 offset, it brings their age in line with what they are today, and the game will reflect that better with their squad status from the get go.
The files are ALL about realism, as best as humanly possible, and the whole point is to ignore the fact FM24 is based around the start of a 23/24 season, and that the year shows as 2023 when starting a new game – they are designed to add 3 years’ worth of data, whether its age, league updates, comp updates, history updates etc
I personally haven’t seen the “updated but not playable” but I'm assuming that might refer to the moderators are advising they have updated the files (backend) but haven’t made them available to download yet, as I very much doubt they would make available unusable files.
Hope that helps - and some of the info has come from trial and error on my end over the years!
