Sports Interactive has officially confirmed that FM26 has reached the end of its update cycle. Update 26.3.2 will be the final patch for this year’s game, meaning there will be no more bug fixes or feature updates before development moves fully onto Football Manager 27.
While the end of support is expected for any annual release, the accompanying statement reveals plenty about where the studio currently stands.
An Honest Assessment
One of the biggest takeaways from Sports Interactive’s post is its honesty.
The studio openly acknowledges that, despite FM26 attracting more than 8 million players and becoming the second most-played game in Football Manager history, it still failed to meet the expectations set for the start of a new era for the franchise.
That is a significant admission.
In most situations, reaching eight million players would be viewed as a major success. Instead, Sports Interactive admits that player numbers alone are not enough. The overall reception, community feedback and confidence in the series matter just as much.
Listening to the Community
The statement repeatedly highlights the importance of player feedback, bug reports and feature requests.
Since launch, the development team has released stability updates, fixed a wide range of issues and even restored some features following community feedback. Now that support for FM26 has ended, any new bugs reported through the Bug Tracker will be logged internally rather than fixed, with the information helping to shape FM27 instead.
This confirms that the studio’s focus has now shifted completely to the next game.
Rebuilding Trust
Perhaps the most interesting part of the announcement has very little to do with FM26 itself.
Sports Interactive says rebuilding player confidence has become a major priority. As part of that effort, the studio has hired a new Senior Community Manager, Chris Groves, while also promising changes aimed at improving communication with the Football Manager community.
Following the difficult launch and mixed reception of FM26, improving that relationship feels like an important step.
Football Manager has always benefited from having one of the most engaged communities in gaming. Strong communication between developers and players has played a huge role in the series’ success over the years.
FM27 Has Plenty to Prove
The closing section of the announcement makes it clear that attention has now turned to Football Manager 27.
Sports Interactive says more information about FM27 will be shared over the coming months, with the studio hoping to rebuild confidence through its next release.
Ultimately, the success of FM27 will depend on more than promises. Delivering a polished game with the features players expect and a smoother launch will do far more to restore confidence than any statement could.
Final Thoughts
Sports Interactive’s latest update closes the chapter on FM26 while acknowledging that the game did not achieve everything the studio had hoped.
The statement accepts that improvements are needed, thanks players for their continued feedback and makes it clear that lessons from FM26 are being carried into the next release.
With support for FM26 now officially over, all attention turns to FM27 and whether Sports Interactive can deliver the fresh start many players have been waiting for.

Utter crap!

They should give FM27 free to those who paid for a game that was practically broken until two months ago, and it's minimally acceptable now. But mine is just a pipe dream because it will never happen.
Bielsa is a legend
I still can’t get into it, yes the match looks ok, but there is so much missing, and still no decent skin
fully patched fm24 with the latest Flut skin beats it in every way
i will look forward to 27, and try and give it a chance, but unless they bring back the immersion of 24 then it will struggle, with only those distracted by 3D stadiums over realistic game play buying it
