So with only a few months left until FM14 and interest in my previous long term career waning, I have decided to try one last game.

Monaco, now as we know they have recently come into some money and splurged on players such as Falcao, Carvalho, Abidal, Toulalan, Moutinho, Ocampos and Rodriguez. This peaked my interest and so my journey begins.

I started by evaluating the squad, now while they have spent big on some quality there really is not much else to cheer about. I began by setting a few players who won't cut it to unwanted and stuck them in the reserves. My targets with my £30m budget were a new central defender, 2 goalkeepers and a full back.

So on the outs front were some pretty ordinary players, Sugasic didn't even get to play a game for me but was never going to cut it.

On the ins I decided to do something different, scout and buy players I haven't done so before, well at least in FM13 anyways.

Number one:

Quality player and transfer listed, previous games I have tried to start always see him go to a team like Liverpool so he will be great to have for the next few years whilst youngster Ocampos learns the trade. Pepe is one player I have never managed in any FM game before.

Paid about £4m more then I should have for him and no way is he worth £78k per week but he adds some youth to the central defence and looks to be real quality. Yet another player I have never managed before in my FM life.

Another youngster and fills a so desperately needed right back spot. Has some real quality about him and also another one I've never managed before.

Young Turkish national, has all the right attributes in key areas. Never heard of him before let alone managed him.

Backup goalie, everyone knows him but I haven't managed him since whichever version it was that Notts Co. had the takeover.

Most likely my final signing and on a free. Haven't managed him since his early days at Barca and he returns for his second stint at Monaco. Will provide quality backup to Falcao.

Pre season, not exactly how you would want it to go but early on I had no goalkeepers and was tinkering with the tactics. As you can see final three games we were much improved.

Onto the season proper with out first game against Ajaccio who are also an affiliate of ours.
