In the interests of not having to answer the same questions a billions times, I thought I'd make like a Steam support thread because god knows (a) Steam screws the pooch a lot and (b) I've spent way too much time figuring out how to live with it. 8 years and 3 accounts worth of time. I also work in IT support so doing shit like this is something I can do now without trying.

First of all, we all know how Steam works at this point, right? Rather than buy a game as such, you buy the ability to download a game. The game shows up in your library tab and you can install and uninstall it at will.

I got this from somewhere which isn't Steam, what do?
Because SI don't want you to pirate the game, you have to play the game through Steam. So, if you buy the game from an external site, what they'll do is send you a game code (exactly like the ones you get in boxed PC games). This code will let you attach a copy of the game to one Steam account.
To do this, go to you main Steam page, and click where it says "Add a game" at the bottom left. Click activate a product on Steam and then click next and I agree. Now, paste in your game code and keep clicking next until it gets bored. Now, the game should be linked to your Steam account and you can begin downloading. You can install, uninstall and reinstall this game just as you would a normal Steam game.

What happens on release day?
I can't say for 100% what will happen. What I can tell you is the last 3 games I preordered from Steam allowed you to pre-install the game a day before release. I don't think all companies all Valve to do this, but I'd be suprised if SI didn't. If you can do this, you will be able to play the game at midnight. The first time you go to play it, it will have to unlock the game which won't take a minute or two. If not, you'll have to download the game at midnight. But I fairly sure you'll be allowed to preload it.

What happens when it comes to official updates?
The only way to download these updates is through Steam. This should happen automatically any time you're connected to Steam in online mode if you have updates enabled. To check this, right click the game, go to properties, go to the updates tab and there will be a drop down box with two options. One saying allow updates and the other saying not. Updates are enabled by default.

How do I download the editor?
Navigate to your library tab. Underneath where it says library, it should say something (all games usually) with an arrow next to it. Click the arrow and click on tools. Here you should find a tool called Football Manager 2013 editor. You can install and launch it from there. This will only show up once the game is released, but that is where it will be. Probably.

Do I need to be connected to the internet to play this game?
No, you only need to be connected to the internet to install, activate and update the game. To play in offline mode, click Steam on the top left and select go offline. You will also get the option to start in offline mode if you load up Steam when you have no internet connection but sometime that doesn't work properly so I recommend doing it the way I described if you know you're going to be without internet.

This is what happens when I'm bored. Ask any questions and I'll try to answer them. Or someone else will.
