So, what do we reckon the new player roles are going to be?

Regista is the one that was given but 9 more? I thought they had a lot of stuff covered really.

Shadow striker is another. Central winger or a advanced destroyer maybe?

Advanced destroyer \o/

What do they do?

Apart from advanced destruction.

Good shout - I thought you meant a Yaya Toure type player tbf.

I'd like the inclusion of shuttler too (from that very article)

Different from a box to box midfielder as he won't lunge into tackles and try 30 yard screamers.

I don't really see the point in adding regista as a role, it really isn't much more than the Italian word for a deep-lying playmaker.

So many little improvements that are logical.

Maybe a screen where you could see all board takeovers in the world would be handy as well.

Isn't the regista like a Pirlo/Makelele hybrid? Whereas a deep-lying playmaker is more Michael Carrick/Xavi?

Is there any need for false 9, shadow striker, deep lying forward and Trequartista (when played in the ST position).

Half back,

DM that slots into defence? Defender that moves forward into DM?

target flank man, limited FB, complete wing back,

Good.

enganche, regista, false no.9,

How will they differ from trequartista, deep lying playmaker and deep lying forward respectively?

shadow striker

A what? I take it that's just a flashy name for a second striker?

Are they removing trequartista and replacing it with the enganche and "shadow striker"? That would actually make a lot of sense - the former as a creative player with a free role, the latter as a striker with a free role. The deep lying forward would be more focussed on link play.

Regista? what is the difference about this and picking a playmaker in fm13?

An enganche isn't like a trequartista - an enganch is like a static attacking midfielder. Like Riquelme.

A regista is a more defensive deep lying playmaker.

Except a regista isn't really defensive at all. That they occupy a position very deep on the pitch doesn't mean that they do defensive work.

A trequartista in the DM position, basically.

They don't go all out into the tackle but they'll often make a lot of interceptions.

Halfback:

The Half Back looks to serve a role somewhere between that of an aggressive sweeper and a defensive midfielder. With a Half Back, the central defenders themselves will push higher up the pitch while the Half Back drops deeper than a standard defensive midfielder and, in addition to his defensive duties, looks to offer an outlet for quickly recycling possession when the team's attacking play breaks down.

Limited Full Back:

The Limited Full Back knows his strengths and weaknesses and focuses predominantly on his defensive duties, scarcely going forward into a more attacking role.

Complete Wing Back:

The Complete Wing Back loves to attack, and whilst he is capable of ? his defensive duties, his natural ? ? affect the game in the opposition's defensive ?.

Regista:

The Regista is a more aggressive version of the deep-lying playmaker suitable for possession-oriented systems that press high up the pitch. Given complete freedom to dictate play from deep positions, the Regista offers a dynamic and unpredictable creative outlet from behind the attack who seeks to maintain intense pressure by constantly looking for new chances as his more advanced...

Enganche:

The Enganche is the side's prime creator, a hook that joins midfield and attack and operates behind the strikers and a laymaker who sticks to his position and becomes a pivot to his team as they move around him. It differs to the Trequartista, who like to roam from his position, drifting around and looking for space between the lines.

Flank Forward/Wide Target Man:

The Wide Target Man will be the main outlet for clearances and long balls from the back. Ideally positioned against a smaller and weaker full-back, he will be asked to get hold of the ball and keep it before recycling it to a team-mate.

Shadow Striker:

The Shadow Striker operates as the team's main goal scoring threat. Usually coupled with a deep-lying forward, the Shadow Striker aggressively pushes forward into goal scoring positions as the ball moves into the final third and looks to close down opposing defenders when out of possession.

False Nine:

The False Nine, in some ways similar to a more advanced attacking midfielder/playmaker role, is an unconventional lone striker or centre-forward who drops deep into midfield. The purpose of this is it creates a problem for opposing central defenders who can either follow him - leaving space behind them for onrushing midfielders, forwards or wingers to exploit - or leave him to have time and space to dribble or pick out a pass.
