Wouldn't be so sure about him featuring for too much tbh, mate. Our striker situation is shaping up a little bit like this:
James Vaughan and Jermaine Beckford are here. No way Heardman is going to get past those two at all. Plus, we have a young lad from our own academy called George Miller who had a decent enough goal return for a 19-year old. Now here's the thing: we keep on getting bids for Vaughan in (as you'd expect) and his contract is up at the end of the season. Some S*n reporter claimed he's going to Sunderland but we have had 159 of those rumours already going round so might mean feck all. George Miller is apparently close to joining Middlesboro. HITC reported that we're selling him for 200k which is absolute dog bollocks. In any case, we would be in the market for a new striker if any of those sceanarios happen.
Bottom line: 0-0 draw at Ewood it is

Reports flying around that he's having a medical at Sunderland now, as he turned down a new contract here. 900k the fee rumoured, so yeah really no choice but to let him go. As for Miller, he's going to Boro. Fee has been accepted, which will be lower than Vaughan's but apparently could rise over the million mark with add-ons and so on. Can't begrudge both of them for leaving but it leaves us with serious work to do. Clark's been saying there were plans in store if Vaughan was to leave, so got to see what happens now

Signing Lee Novak apparently. Gigg Lane really is turning into a retirement home for our 2012 promotion side - and they'll probably turn us over on Sunday

Wouldn't mind some Jordan Rhodes or Scott Arfield for that matter. And did I already mention we had Oscar Gobern on trial a few weeks ago?
Novak would be a strange one. But again, I've been sceptical of the Leon Clarke and James Vaughan transfers too at the time of happening. I just cannot see us really spending big bucks for a striker now that we've had great success with signing struggling stirkers for nowt and sell them for big money. In an ideal world, I'd like us to go for someone like Godden form Stevenage, Akinde from Barnet or Watkins from Exeter but that won't happen. I expect us to sign someone like Novak and possibly come back for Oztumer from Walsall who we've been interested in earlier this season.

Oscar Gobern! Blast from the past. Last spotted getting released to QPR for a year before doing his ACL on loan at Chesterfield.
Novak would be a good one for you. Only really stalled properly last season - proven League One pedigree, bangs in 15 goals a season, still only 28 (I think - may be a year out either way). Ollie Watkins will end up either top end Championship or bottom end Premier League if he moves this summer, from what I've heard of the lad. Only seen him in the League Two play-off final, so this might be overstating his potential.
I'm considering it, but very much depends if I can be arsed. Pre-season friendlies aren't really my thing unless I really do have nothing better to do and we're playing someone we're unlikely to be playing in the near future. I toyed with Accrington the other night but left it a bit late to set off for a 7 o'clock kick off, and I've done Barnsley too many times to be interested in going there. We also have three friendlies in Germany and Austria which are a bit far to watch a casual fitness exercise, plus a home friendly with Udinese, which is on at a daft time but I'll probably go because we're unlikely to face them again this decade.

Some of our fans seem to be mildly disappointed with them though, saying that none of them could replace Vaughan. Spoiled brats. We were never in a position to replace Vaughan 1 by 1 and tbh getting 1 Mil for Vaughan and 500kish for Miller and signing Ajose plus Maguire for literally fekk all, who the fekk is disappointed about that? We had striker like Lateef Elford-Alliyu, Troy Hewitt and Shaun Harrad playing for us in L1 not even half a decade ago. Given some of the players we were linked with (Novak, Blackstock, Leon Best) we could have done a lot lot worse than that

As wingers go, not the quickest, but physically strong, decent touch (even if his first touch occasionally leads to a second touch that is a tackle), prepared to take people on (by running at them - quite literally barrels through challenges, no real trickery in his wing-play until it comes to stealing a yard), good crosser, good finisher. Obviously no guarantees with any player, but at 24 and for the price you paid, you could make your money back 4-5 times in a year if he shows his quality.

Ipswich apparently had 500k rejected, so we must have paid more than that. Would quite literally blow away anything we've ever paid before. Our record signing was Chris Swailes from Ipswich, for whom we paid 200k for. And THAT was a mere 20 years ago
As for our game today, still work in progress but a 1-0 win. Automatisms still to be found and still tweaks to be made. Gave 8 debut starts to players today, so not everythnig clicking straightaway. I personally would like to see Beckford play alongside Maguire, as he seems to be more equipped to play in a number 10 sort of role rather than Nicky Ajose. Jermaine Beckford scored with a header, after missing a penalty early on. Second half we looked much better. Zeli Ismail and Tsun Dai came on, and everything seemd to be more fluid. Could have put the game to bed, but decided to miss yet another penalty taken by Chris Maguire. Defence looked good, and I believe with a few more games under our belt, we will start ticking at some point.
Oh, and just to put this out here: Tsun Dai - remember the name. This guy will be the next guy leaving us for better things and put big bucks in our account. 17-year-old Centre Mid from Hong Kong in his first year as a pro and looks like he's been playing for ages. Such a natural on the ball, bosses the midfield so well. A Joy to watch

Speaking of goal fests, our games at the keepmoat always are and yesterday was no different. It finished 3-3, even though Donny only had 2 shots on target! Allsop, on loan from Bournemouth, put in another sub par performance in our net and Bowyer keeps playing negatively away from home. It's a game we should have won.
Rumours are we didn't play young Bright as he may be off to Brighton!

More or less, Beckford's goal might have been about a minute from stoppage time, but that's just splitting hairs tbh. Clark correctly pointed out that both our goal just paper the crack and that the game was just very crap

I went to Stevenage last season and it was the worst 22 quid I'd spent all season. Result didn't help but the stewarding was a joke then too. Didn't go last Saturday because of that and thankfully I didn't.
Some shocking goings on there, and our Trust will be taking it all the way. Stevenage statement last night was a joke.

I'm kind of torn about this. Obviously if this third doctor says he shouldn't, then it's a no-brainer. However, if the doctor says he can go back to playing football professionally...would it be something you would be comfortable with if it was you? One doctor suggesting it would not be safe for me to play football would be enough to make me throw in my boots I reckon, even if two others said it'd be alright. I don't know the ins and outs of it, so maybe something like a skull cap rugby and Cech style may prove the difference in which case fair enough. Feel sorry for the guy though, don't think he really has had a proper run at a career as a footballer. Spurs shipped him out here, there and everywhere and just as it was picking up at Hull for him he suffered this injury...
I'm sure if he did chose to retire from football the FA would fast track his coaching and Hull or Spurs would bring him in as a youth coach or something to get him on his feet!

If I was him, I'd call it a day. Not just because doctors said I couldn't but also because I would want to be at my 100% best if I was to return. I'm not a psychologist by any means, but surely if you had such a massive injury to your head, it must somewhere in your mind right? Just imagine this: 90th minute in a Championship match against physical side, you are defending a 1-0 lead and you're facing a 1 vs 1 aerial duel against someone. Would you put your body 100% on the line to win the header? Are you willing to risk it? Can you be 100% focused and commited to football knowing that one header might fuck you and after everything you've been through? The Petr Cech comparison doesn't quite cut it for me, because as a keeper you don't have to use your head, whereas it is a necessary to do that in an outfield position. Massive decision for Ryan Mason that is for sure. I wish him all the best in whatever decision he chooses to make but if I was him, I'd be sensible and stop.
