I still can't get over Jagielkas goal. Last minute of a derby to score that I'm not sure what I would have done.

Was surprised by Martinez' tactics, maybe not his initial tactics but his persistence with them. Lukaku on the right hand side against Moreno I suppose was for the height advantage and maybe strength but that left a massive gap up top and at times it was like Everton were playing a 4-6-0 formation. Was frustrating to watch. Everton fans feel the same?

Amazing how much has been made of Nolans offside goal, it was ever so slightly offside but was still the correct decision.

I think Lukaku has been playing mostly on the right this year, or he a few times at least. I think Martinez likes the idea of him cutting in and exploiting his size advantage. iirc he dominated last year against Arsenal with the tactic.

Yeah Martinez has used that tactic a few times. Seems to work great sometimes.

He destroyed Nacho on the right. Poor fella.

Still don't really rate Lukaku though.

Why doesn't the clock stop when the ball goes out of play?

The third game out of 6 that have been absolutely mangled by teams refusing to play football this season.

Because games would be about twice as long. The average time for the ball being in play for a match is 55 minutes iirc.

If there was no benefit to time wasting, then it would be reduced dramatically. Or reduce the game time slightly.

Stoke had several players go down with knocks, and the ball tended to take 30 seconds a time to be returned. A Stoke player either kicked or dribbled the ball away every time as well.

Football in its current state is just un-equiped to deal with such gamesmanship. A ref is never gonna send someone off for timewasting, or add on the equivalent time wasted. It's absolutely killing football.

Newcastle's kit is horrid.

So was the performance of most of those wearing it. Although bizarrely all the people I was watching it with in the pub liked it.

Yes, Stoke timewasted and kicked like hell - as they do - but when all your shots bar one 30ish yarder go off target, and the defence looks useless when pressure is applied, victory is never going to happen.

I guess now we'll see if Ashley was just joking...

You could of just made that post a whole lot shorter by saying the ref should of added on time until Newcastle scored.

They'd be still playing next week.

Pardew out Ashley out.

Nothing will change until one or both of these things happen

I sound like a broken record.

No. I'm not complaining about the result. It was fair enough.

I'm complaining about the timewasting.

We all sound like broken records. And so do media outlets claiming Pardew will be given one more chance, as Sky currently are.

Ashley looked thoroughly pissed off at the end of the game so I'm surprised that, as of right now, he is still in employment with NUFC.

He'll get loads more chances as it costs too much money to sack him.

We'll get relegated if something doesn't change.

£5million is the reported estimate, which is small change for a guy worth billions and who just spunked £43million on Tesco shares.

Timewasting's been around nearly as long as the game itself and most if not all clubs do it at some point so i don't see a problem with it. In fact its only a problem if you're on the receiving end of it, otherwise its fairly common sense if your team is winning the game.

Because it's cheating. And timewasting along with diving, and the professional foul should be eradicated as much as possible. And right now I think referees are totally unequipped with teams who time waste in an organised manner.

And teams do to a different extent. Man City and Hull were winning against Newcastle and still played. Stoke, Palace and Villa just didn't. The ball was never in play.

It wouldn't matter, I think we've created about 4 clear cut chances all season.

Attacking tactics are all wrong.

Part and parcel of the game. I absolutely 100% would want an Arsenal player to dive in the box if it meant winning a penalty. Unless they do an Ashley Young obviously. No point taking a moral highground in something that every team does.

I'm not suggesting a moral high ground. I'm suggesting rule changes. In line with other rule changes that FIFA have made to improve football, ie goalline technology, red cards for professional fouls, outlawing dangerous tackles.

This isn't about Newcastle. It's about football in general. Newcastle v Stoke was two poor quality sides - the game could have at least been entertaining.

I agree that "stoppage time" needs to be a bit more accurate regarding time wasting throughout the match. It's incredibly frustrating no matter who does it.

Although, in fairness Tim Krul was/is notorious for wasting time at kickouts and the like

You're saying last nights game wasn't entertaining, yet campaigning for the game to last even longer.

Job done for our boys last night, pressure was on even at this early stage and we did what we had to. We failed to kill the game off and had the usual nervy last 15 minutes. The suggestions that we heavily time wasted are a bit daft, the only player who time wastes in our side is keeper Begovic, he's probably the worst in the league for taking his time over goal kicks but did none of that last night. We picked up a few injuries during the game through some pretty hefty challenges by your guys so it wasn't like players were going down feigning the injury to run down the clock.

I did however genuinely feel sorry for Newcastle fans after seeing it first hand last night. People who follow me on twitter know that I don't like Newcastle fans that much (best supporters in the league/we sell out everywhere/general arrogance), but I really did feel and understand your pain. Players played out of position, mismatches on the pitch and general lack of ideas that ultimately are Pardews fault.

Ok - I'll bite. I've just read another patronising article about how Newcastle fans are amazing, and just want a modicum of ambition, hope and a hint at a cup run (despite still being in the cup), and how nasty Ashley and Pardew are nastily forcing Newcastle to finish 17th every year in a bid to make money (Despite their being performance related bonuses in everyone's contracts).

How are Newcastle different from every other club who aren't Liverpool/ManCity/Chelsea/ManUtd/Arsenal?

What is it about Ashley that means him not ploughing his personal fortune into the club makes him such an evil owner. Where as Randy Lerner or Ellis Short get a bye?

The hook that's got me riled is the shitload of neutral fans on electronic media who think we should be content with 17th or higher, and that we're all deluded optimists that think we should be entitled to top 4 every year. Which is bollocks. I don't expect us to get anywhere near the top 6, which is what made 2011/12 such a surprise but fun campaign, and I'm yet to see a Newcastle fan who thinks that, although I grant you somebody somewhere will think this. Plus Pardew was the moron chatting about challenging for the Champions League in pre-season, and then accusing us of overly high expectations when we began losing.

I can tolerate Ashley wanting to run the club on a sound financial footing, even if I do think we could have bought one or two more players in the summer without breaking the bank, and that he's currently getting the football part of the club wrong. But he has been unwanted and unloved since forcing Keegan out and being found in a court to be habitually lying to fans and press. That's six years of creating a hate figure out of a wealthy recluse who has (largely, although not so much recently) been staying away from games and slimming it all down as an exercise to reverse a negative image out of, and so far, not much has been done.
